We bought a Niro LX for $21,000 + tax. Here are the highlights and low lights. Amazing MPG - I'm getting over 60 mpg. Price without leather was great...$21,000. The sports mode turns this into A SUPER FAST sports car. (No kidding...it will blow almost anything away for 20 yards.) I couldn't believe it. Now the bad... The front seat sucks but a good cushion will fix it. The ride is a bit sporty...it's not horrible but could be better. The stereo speakers are ok but you might want to upgrade. Well, that's it. My wife loves the car but she loves her 2014 Prius. I'll give it a 4 out of 5. Also, Kia has a super warranty. -------------------------------------------- 3 month update: I've driven about 2200 miles and am getting over 600 miles on a fill-up. That's really nice. I can hookup my phone with a YouTube app and play thousands of songs through the media button, so I won't need Sirusxm. That's good. The car is easy to wash. Takes about 20 minutes by hand. Car handles very nice around town and is agile. I'm 6'4" and weigh about 290 and I have plenty of room. So far it's been a good purchase. I was going to buy a RAV4 Hybrid but we saved around $8,000 with the NIRO and are getting way better gas mileage. Update at 10,000 miles. I've had no issues with the car. We took it on a 3300 mile road trip. It got absolutely great gas mileage. Drives nice on the highway. I've enjoyed this car and I hope it lasts.

I have a S-Touring; 51+MPG commuting in DC traffic, nice entertainment system with Android Auto [must have], nice comfortable seats, nice interior design and overall quality. traded in RX350 and now I am saving $1300 a year just on gas and I have all the capacity I need with roof-box and hitch cargo carrier. rock solid reliability after 40k on ODO on same tires and brakes to boot. DTC is a jewel and suspension with 18inch wheels boosts fun factor on curve roads. Niro also made me a better person behind the wheel :-)

Just bought our second Kia Niro. We got one 11 months ago and are so crazy about it, that my husband and I argued about whose turn it was to take it. So I went out and bought my own. Gas savings are fabulous and it's very roomy and comfortable. Love the price, too.

This is a great commuter vehicle. I am consistently getting better than the advertised average gas mileage at almost 55 MPG. It is a very comfortable vehicle even for me being larger than most people. The technology is outstanding and well laid out on the dashboard. I have the back seats down most the time to take advantage of the extra cargo space. I have to admit it was a big adjustment for me going from a V8 to 4 Cyl Hybrid as far as power, but it performs well enough for my everyday driving.

We got it in Dec 29 2018, we looked at some of the other hybrids, the Kia Niro came out to be the best for us . We have only driven about 200 miles so this is a review about how to get used to it. We have Leasted a Kia Soul back in 2012. We are in our late 60 so the lease works for us , we never really drive to much anyway, a lease only works for some. So as for the niro, we love the lad back driving experience, we are not in a battle to get anywhere, if it's a sports car your looking for don't look at this one. It is a very good hybrid car, good room in the back, I think it handles very good, nice city car .we will try some short trips. So far it fits our needs great. 4 1/2 ☆☆☆☆

My husband and I requested a hybrid rental vehicle to save $$ on our vacation. Got a 2019 Kia Niro and were amazed at the MPG we got, averaged 55 MPG mostly highway miles. It wasn't a bad ride either, once we got used to the differences as this was our first experience with a hybrid. Unfortunately, we were rear ended on a highway when at a stop for construction by a texting driver at 55 MPH. That being said, we were both very impressed with the car. No major injuries for either driver or passenger and none of our cargo was damaged at all but the car was totaled. We were so impressed that we are now looking to replace our current gas powered vehicle with a Kia Niro hybrid. It seems we can get a top of the line Kia for less than a mid-range hybrid from other manufacturers. YES!

the niro is a wonderful little hybrid crossover...it looks much cooler than the Prius and some of the other small hybrids. it gets very good mileage, and its pretty lively to drive in the sport mode. a few less desirable areas..first, the transition from electric to gas is not smooth...sorry, but, this should be seamless. apparently the use of a clutched geared transmission vs the CVT has proven too much for the Kia engineers to master. so, you can expect the unexpected as the transmission tries to figure out whats happening when the gas engine kicks in...it cant seem to find the right gear quickly, which is not fatal, but is sloppy and bumpy. second, there just isnt enough small item storage in the cabin...the center console is small, along with a small glove compartment and not very roomy door compartments...again, it should have been easy to increase the convenient storage. finally, the driver side visor bumps right into the rear view mirror when its down...so, you cant really see the left edge of the mirror, and you cant get the visor down correctly. simple situation that virtually all other car makers easily solved. my wife also just experienced an inability to turn off the car. while she did eventually turn it off, the technology is not user friendly in some key areas, which is not great for non-nerd types. all of these indicate that, while this car has many wonderful features, it isnt quite ready for the big time...too bad, because its such a really neat car otherwise.

I’ve only had the car a few weeks but have really been enjoying it. I’ve got an hour commute, mostly in traffic, and having this hybrid has actually shifted how I view my commute. I see the time in stop and go traffic as a way to save on gas...and I’m doing better than what was quoted (55.1 mpg). I’ve filled up once in two weeks. Aside from the fuel economy, I really like the technology it comes with...I’ve been able to listen to podcasts, Amazon music, and enjoy some of my Sirius XM trial as well. It’s nicely spacious for my needs. It looks bigger to me than it actually is but it’s a nice size overall for my needs. I had a MINI Clubman previously so that could be the reason it seems so big... To note, it is a hybrid so there’s not a ton of kick and at times it does feel a bit sluggish but with my commute I’m rarely going that fast. Within the city it’s great. If you’re looking for turbo speed, this isn’t the car for you but if you want to save money on your commute and enjoy the ride, check it out!

Grinding noise when I come to a stop

I would not recommend this vehicle!!! At first I was completely in Love with this vehicle! But then...First came there coolant reservoir..totally erupted all over the engine. Next was the water pump recall.. followed by transmission issue after check engine light on!!! And while this was all happening I have a grinding noise that according to my Kia dealer is normal!! This is not normal! All started after taking in for a simple oil change! 5500 miles ish. Took it in And they said that it was fixed. Then decided after I insisted on a test drive that it wasn’t fixed and that it’s a normal sound. I believe it’s a transmission issue as it only does it in automatic vs manual usage. I am beyond frustrated and honestly bummed that a car that ran so perfectly initially has turned into a hot mess. Save yourself some cash and buy something else. Cooperate has been unable to resolve Update- so after horrible customer service and a lot of just awful treatment.. turns out the customer was right! My Niro needed a new transmission! Do not let KIA push you around if your experiencing this issue! Hopefully I will not need another one once I reach that 5,000 miles on this new transmission!

We have enjoyed the Niro EX , our lease went smoothly. I wanted to try a hybrid car before commit to buying it. We have leased a kia Soul before. The Niro has all the options we wanted in the EX model, I love the blind spot. The easy of driving it . Ican't stay out of it the manual is a good peppy drive. I am getting about 60 mpg n the first tank that was 612 miles . Really like the kia. 4 stars, san antonio tx.

Replaced 2011 Sportage with new ‘20 Niro LX. Gas mileage is steadily 55mpg on the freeway & sometimes a bit more. Interior is fine and driver’s seat comfortable. Available bells & whistles perfectly adequate and very much appreciate Apple Car Play. A/C very good and all the necessary controls for phone & speed control logically arranged on steering wheel arms. Despite one review saying acceleration isn’t good, I completely disagree. It’s not a big or supercharged engine but it gets up to freeway speed very smoothly and quickly. I also like the split climate control, giving the option for all A/C to be on driver’s side if no passenger present. Also like the very wide angle of the back up camera.

I helped my 28 year old daughter select her first car and she adores this thing. She insisted on hybrid. We drove the Honda Insight, Accord and Clarity. She also drove a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and my 2014.5 Camry hybrid and ICE RAV4 from 2007. All of them had pros but the main con was they felt too big for her 5' 6" frame. The Niro fit wonderfully. It had enough zip for her and she loves the great MPH. In summer mid 50s and winter mid 40s. She loves dogs and calls it her puppy as the rearview mirrors/ears flap open and closed when approaching or leaving. The technology is awesome as she and her tech savvy webpage designed engineer boyfriend can attest to. The ride is not as refined as a Toyota or Honda in isolating road bumps but for her it is fine. The nimbleness more than makes up for that. Seat comfort is great on long rides. Storage is ok for her needs. Trips to the Shore with only 2 people is super. Visibility is wonderful and so far after 7 months reliability is flawless. Got a 3 year lease for an awesome deal.

I test drove the car at the dealer twice and it worked fine. Five days later, the shifting between electrical and gas engine modes is not working. Often, but not every time, when starting at the light intersection, the gas ending hits the clutch as if someone rear-ended the car. The car often stalls on the highway. The needle goes into "power" mode, but the gas engine does not even start. Already 3 weeks at the dealer, they can not fix the problem. Definitely, do not buy this model

I bought the NIRO about a yr ago... 2019. I really like the car but recently the android auto cuts out & the USB port sounds warped when I'm using the flash drive. I feel like the dealership is blowing me off. I really want this fixed & don't want to worry that I'm going to blow my dashboard. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem?

My Kia Niro is a LEMON!

While driving home from work last Thursday, my 2017 Kia Niro instructed me to immediately pull over and call Kia's "road-side assistance." At least three times in as many years the car has shut down and forced me to pull over. I immediately had my car towed to my local Kia dealer who once again told me it was a minor "fix" and the repairs would covered under the warranty. This has the common response each time my car has been TOWED to a KIA dealership, and each year when the weather gets warm I am left stranded on the side of a hazardous and busy freeway. As the original owner of my Niro, driving less than 10,000 miles each year it is readily is apparent that my car is a LEMON! After three years of patiently believing the Kia service departments when they tell me that my car has been fixed, only to be stranded once again, I have come to the realization that the only professional recourse would be for Kia to refund my money.

2020 Niro ... Overall Disappointing Performance

We own a 2020 Soul EX and love it. Looking for a small SUV, our Kia dealer was the first stop. We can't believe that the same manufacturer makes both vehicles. The Good ... loaded, including ventilated seats, tons of safety features, stylish interior and solid all around. The Bad ... incredibly sluggish performance. What is the fascination with a dual clutch? The hesitation, especially at takeoff, reminds me of an old Buick I owned. It was a no-go from the first stop light. Kia can do better.

This car does not start under 10 degrees and Kia has no fix. Mine has broken down 3 times because of the cold and they told me others have done the same. Yet they will not refund or replacement the vehicle knowing it has a defect that causes reliability issues. Also it is hard to talk to Kia consumer affairs they just give you the run around. Plus I've had to pay out of pocket for rental and cab ride to get to work and they have not reimbursed the expenses even though I'm entitled to this through the contract. Avoid Kia I'd rather be driving a Yugo. Just avoid Kia they do not live up to their word I'm just trying to let you know so you will not have to go through what I'm dealing with.

Just bought the Kia Niro. The sticker says 49/highway City 55. Combined drying I got 59.2 miles per gallon. Was a 227 mile drive from where I bought the Niro. I decided to put the best grade gas in it- drives great! Love the Sport mode! I mostly drive it in regular mode, when entering a highway from the on ramp I slide it into Sports mode the acceraltion is great and merge easily into the highway. I drive 300 miles in three days to work.... live in the country, often travel as far as 1400 miles for work contracts. Has great storage back seats fold down flat. Comfortable seats even in the back. It’s not to small not to big, perfect size for me! Really like this car! Plan on getting a Niro plug in Hybid when I retire with that car you can drive 26 miles on electric along with the gas mode. In another 10 years it maybe 100 miles on Electric only...who know.

I bought my 2019 Kia Niro S Touring just two days ago and I love it so far. It's taken a bit to get used to driving my first hybrid, cause they drive a little different than a regular gasoline only vehicle. When I start it, it's so quiet that I have to remind myself it's running lol. It handles excellent on curves and cornering, it has plenty of pep to get on the highway or get around town. I haven't had it long enough to see what my fuel economy is so far, but it sips gas and is so comfortable to drive. The interior is so quiet, comfortable, durable, and has plenty of room for me even being 6'1" 330 lbs. The Harmon Kardon sound system is amazing and provides crystal clear listening whether its SirusXM radio, Android Auto, or FM stereo. The center console storage and glove box space are smaller than on my Sportage, but still adequate for my use. It rides very nice in town or out on the highway. The rear cargo area is also smaller than my Sportage but still adequate enough for my use. The dual climate control makes it nice for passengers who like it warmer or cooler than I do in the vehicle. it's my 6th Kia vehicle and so far my favorite cause of the fuel economy, looks, quality, and dependability. I get lots of looks, questions, and compliments about how I like it around from people. I'm anxious to see how it performs this winter in the snow and harsh elements. If your thinking about getting.one, I highly recommend it.

Better highway mpgs than city mpgs!!!

Here's a head scratcher: I recently drove 7 hours mainly highway, mainly cruise control, and I averaged 44 mpg (this S Touring's average highway mileage is 40 mpg). Yet, my average city driving never gets more than 38 mpg(the S Touring's average city mileage is 44 mpg). I previously owned a 2013 Prius C, so I know all the tricks re increasing gas mileage. Unlike the Prius C, where you entered your cost per gallon every time you filled up, the Niro doesn't have that option; I have no idea how the car figures out the correct mpg without it. I got a pearl white Niro S. I HATE white but in this case there's enough black accents to satisfy me ( and I love a black interior). Despite a decent, no-great-shakes Harman Kardon stereo system, you will never be able to play anything mellow music on the highway: The cabin's road noise prevents it (city driving is fine). Thankfully, I like my music with a beat and the Harman Kardon speakers come through. The seats are comfy and I love the heated seats (which also heats your lower back). I pulled a back muscle and the ONLY time I felt comfortable was in the driver's seat thanks to the heat and lumbar adjustment. The interior is well appointed, the seats are an unobtrusive leather/cloth combo. The air intake, which keeps the electric battery cool, is positioned on the side of the back seat seat which is great. My Prius C had it positioned under the rear passenger seat which could easily be blocked by legs, long dresses, and stuff you might throw in the floorboard. The cargo area is big enough for me to throw in a bike, so I'm happy. The Touring S also knows when you are approaching the car (if you have your keys on you): The rearview mirrors unfold and the door handle lights up. Als, if you have your keys on you, the rear trunk automatically unlocks. This is very convenient if your arms are full. Would I buy it again? Possibly. I might revisit the Toyota Rav4 hybrid next go-round, though the passenger area does feel smaller, and I would pay a heck of a lot more for all the bells and whistles I have on My Niro S Touring. 2020 update 1 year later: I still agree with everything above. I'm still enjoying driving it and have had no surprises. I have no desire to trade it in for another hybrid. I've gone from 3 to 4 stars because the car so far is very reliable so far and I truly enjoy driving it.

12k miles and a year of ownership; excellent value for the money and crazy 46-54 MPG [depending on temperature] with plenty of room inside with comfort/safety features. seats are comfortable for long haul and Harmon system is rocking and the android auto is quick to respond. both interior and exterior are holding up good and the new car smell is still present even after a year. the surface and buttons still looks new and ride has soften a little as it settled over 12k miles of driving.

Silky Silver NIRO

If you are an experienced HYBRID vehicle driver, you will love how this vehicle drives, brakes, turnd in small spaces, gives great money saving gas mpg (40+), and a great driving range of 500+ miles per tank when you gas up! Love it's sporty look. However, if you don't like the hybrid-style driving that builds and keeps the high mpg, stay away!! Just buy a big beautiful gas-guzzling SUV!

The BEST hybrid 2019 Niro

VERY happy with my choice of the KIA Niro hybrid. I have owned one for 3 months now and my wife and I are very satisfied. Over 50 mpg. Not like the Prius, this is a VERY easy transition from a non-hybrid auto as the interior interface with the driver is hard to distinguish from a standard gas vehicle. Very comfortable and spacious. A good solid feel with plenty of amenities at a very reasonable price. My first KIA and, so far I am sold. I am surprised that the Niro doesn't get more attention. Maybe because it is in the small SUV category. It really is in a category of its own.

Except for being a little smaller than I would like, this is the perfect first hybrid. Not too expensive but has a lot of safety features.

Do not impulse buy the Kia Niro

Review is for LX with standard package. The cargo space is small, I could fit 2-24 pack bottled water and 2-24 pack Pepsi, the rest of my grocery struggle to fit, it will be a bad idea to do big grocery for family of 5 and try to make it fit in trunk, my compact Hyundai Accent even have twice the size on the trunk than the Kia Niro. It will also be a bad idea to use this car for Ikea trips, a compact car would've carried so much more. The acceleration is poor in comparison to other same size SUV, you will have to really step on it to get to 70-75 mph which is the normal tollway speed here in North Texas. There is no extra charger/usb port for the back seat passengers unlike other new vehicles. There is no entertainment other than a Sirius package that's only free for 3 months, nothing special on Evo either as it doesn't even allow you to remotely start your car. The 3 seats in the back is a joke, 3 normal weight teenagers struggle to fit in the back. This is not a road trip car. This is not a 5-family car. This is even not rideshare efficient because of lack of cargo space. The depreciation is also very high, you will see 2018 models already at 33%-43% depreciation (check kbb). I wish I did my research first, but this is my first SUV, so I know what to do next time. Don't impulse buy, please shop around. If you want everything on it, you might as well buy a full size SUV and just use a wind booster to keep you driving economy mode. The warranty is good though, Hyundai/Kia have good warranties. Good luck.

The review in this article is very different than my own experience. Driving in eco mode the car is nimble and quick, much more so than an Prius I have driven. The over all driving feel is that of a car with a manual transmission. The steering does feel a little lose at time and the car feels very ‘light’ as well- more like a Honda Civic than a CRV. But, for getting around town and the occasional stint on the hiway, this car handles very nicely with good pickup and passing power. I almost never put this in sport mode as it seems unnecessary. Not loaded with bells and whistles or a tone of creature comforts, my Niro hybrid touring model seems to be a well designed and practical hybrid. Much more fun to drive than other hybrids I have tried.

This small car has plenty of space inside and ample headroom. Overall a quality build with great features except no motorized lift gate option that many competitors have. Compact size and reasonable handling although ride options a little stiff with no alternative drive modes. Overall great car with excellent mileage performance.

This car gets 543 Mpg and I've had it for 3 years now. But I no longer trust Kia. After 80k miles the tech in the car has begun to act weird; the windows, the touch screen, and THE CLIMATE CONTROL!!! omfg the light to indicate its on is never own and the climate control turns on by itself! I went to get it fix and its no longer covered after 60k miles. No kia isn't going to pay for it. Im sick and done with kia. other than that I've taken this car off-road, from California to new york and back. Its a good car other than that but its annoying

Disappointed I expected 51 mpg city/46 mpg highway

I was expecting to get this car for economical errands around town. I saw the 2019 Kia Niro rated as 51 mpg average in the city, but the best I get for short hops (for example to work and back...total of 3 miles roundtrip) is 25 mpg average. For slightly longer commutes (for example, to school and back...total 12 miles) I am getting 39 mpg. That includes me driving very conservatively (crawling to 10 mph after a dead stop) and the instant fuel economy is 9.8 mpg. Often I have a line of cars behind me because I drive so slowly. If I were to make the decision to purchase over again, I would not have bought it. I am going to check the gas mileage manually to see if in fact I am actually getting poor fuel economy or is this an instrumentation problem. It seems like the engine is pulled into play when the electric motor should be running the vehicle at slow speeds. I took the car into the dealer to have this hybrid vehicle checked out and they found nothing wrong with it. I am not sure that I will keep this car but I certainly am not happy with the Kia Niro.

Our Niro Touring is tough to beat for the options, style and comfort for the price. This is our Second Niro, but, our first Touring model. It has all the safety features you could ask for, without pricing it like a luxury car.

I love the way my 2020 Kia Niro looks and drives. Got lots of power in sport mode. I drive 30 miles round trip to work and get 50 mpg On a long highway trip at a steady 70 mph... 67 mpg This car set a world record for cross country fuel economy. Dont take my word for it; look it up I've got almost 30k miles with no issues. I love the dct transmission! It's basically a manual transmission controlled by computer. Two quarts of dct fluid to service. I did have issues with my android auto... It was my USB cable, not the car. If the infotainment screen goes black and won't come on? It's because its updating via Bluetooth through your phone.

After buying 3 new vehicles with so called AWD, we gave up. Hybrid prices are finally reasonable & buying the 2019 EX was the right choice for us. For the average driver who doesn't understand the variances of the 15% rule you are just paying too much for something that isn't 4 wheel drive. I can't even blame the CVT factor anymore.

I got a base model lease in 2018, approaching the trade in date I was in love with the car and started researching top of the line models to buy. I found the perfect fit for me and drove 150 miles to get her. This was in 2020 and I’ve been so happy with her ever since. Amazing features, beautiful styling, great price and MPG, no issues at all in the past 5 years. I will drive this car to the grave. Niros are fantastic and very underrated 10/10
