Feel like were making a lease payment on an invisible car. Seems like these JL's are plagued with issues and jeep has no support to fix them. Wish I could say it was one specific thing but the dealer just keeps throwing guesswork and parts at it only to have the check engine light come right back on again.

WRANGLER JL- MASSIVE ISSUES SINCE PURCHASE

Amanda Waters, 10/12/2018
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M)

I purchased a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL on June 30, 2018 from Merrick Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Wantagh, and frankly am concerned at the myriad of problems I’ve had since owning it. The dealer has left me in a position where I no longer feel comfortable bringing the vehicle into them for service, as the entire experience has been unprofessional and I am not confident in their abilities to fix my vehicle in a timely manner. Two weeks after purchase, the vehicle would not start and the check engine light, as well as the “Service Electronic Throttle” light came on. The radiator fans were consistently running high, and the temperature gage was showing below cold. I reached out to the Dealer, who informed me that there were no appointments until August 7, 2018. They informed me that the car should be safe to drive, so I continued operating the vehicle with the lights on, and the faulty auto start/stop. The car was dropped at the dealer on August 7, 2018 and remained there until I called them and asked the status. They informed me that the car was fine, and that I could come and pick it up on August 15, 2018. I went to the Dealership on this day, and the car had all of the error messages still on, and the radiator fans were running exceptionally high. The Service Manager came out and told me to leave the vehicle, and I left without it. I contacted Jeep Corporation multiple times throughout this process, and spoke to two different Case Managers. The first, Ron, kept me on the phone for over an hour and told me to “go into the dealer on a busy Saturday and throw a fit to demand a replacement vehicle”. He did not properly document any of my complaints, as the second case manager told me. The complaints were not properly documented until the 4th Case Manager was assigned to my deal. The vehicle remained in the dealership until August 29, 2018. I was informed that they had replaced a connector valve on the car that was allowing air to leak and that 59 miles were put on the vehicle during service. Upon arrival, I was treated with no respect and no one to explain the things that were “fixed” on the vehicle. They left the paperwork in the Jeep and I took it home. On September 1, 2018, the car would not start again, and all of the issues (radiator fans, temperature gage, check engine, service electronic throttle, auto start/stop service required) were back on the dashboard. I contacted jeep Corporation and the Dealer. The new case manager was assigned, and she informed me that the previous case managers had not properly written down any of the complaints that I had previously contacted Jeep regarding. I reached out to attempt to contact the owner of the Dealer on September 4, 2018, and he never responded to my message. I dropped the vehicle back at the Dealership on September 6, 2018. Jeep Corporation instructed me to not have direct contact with the dealer/service manager anymore, and that they would be the point of contact due to their interaction with the service manager. On September 10, 2018, Jeep Corporation instructed me that a STAR Case was being opened by the dealer to manage repairs. On September 11, 2018, I requested from Jeep Corporation a copy of the paperwork with the information on the repairs and was informed that they were unable to provide that information and that I needed to reach out to the dealership. The dealer was still diagnosing the problem with the vehicle on September 11, 2018. On September 13, 2018 I was informed that the dealer had replaced the PCM and that they were keeping the car until Monday, September 17, 2018 to monitor repairs and drive the car daily prior to returning it. On October 11, 2018, the U Connect touch screen and backup camera stopped functioning. Upon multiple restarts of the vehicle, it remains frozen in a black screen. I contacted Jeep Corporation who told me they needed to open another case and document the complaint. I specifically requested a contact to speak to regarding the multitude of issues with this vehicle and was instructed that I needed a new case manager to discuss this with. I reached back out to the dealer who has not responded to my inquiries. The first appointment for repairs is October 23, 2018 at a dealer that I did not purchase the vehicle from. I'm writing this because I do not feel safe in this vehicle. If I could return it, I would.

Bad welds, rusty frame, electrical issues

Gary, 08/06/2018
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M)
103 of 109 people found this review helpful

I bought my 2018 Jeep JL Rubicon in May of 2018. It has spent most of July in the shop and was first towed on the 4th of July. The Jeep first started with a warning that I needed to pull over and find a safe place to stop. Luckily the first time it happened was in my neighborhood and I limped it home. The Jeep lost power to the wheels, the 4x4 system started throwing error mesages, the screens went blank, the radio went to maximum volume, the swaybars disengaged, and would no longer start. Also the autopark system stayed engaged. The second time this happened I was driving on the road at 45 mph and everything happened and I almost lost control and was stuck for a few minutes. Luckily I was able to restart the vehicle and things reset and I drove it to the dealer. All of the same things happened with loss of power, crazy electronics, 4x4 system going crazy. Multiple engine codes as well but I dont know if its fixed all I got was could not recreate and very little to no troubleshooting. The frame of the Jeep has separate issues as there are areas missing paint around most of the welds. Also due to the bad welds there is rust and oxidation on the vehicle at the weld points. 2 of those points are rusting. There are multiple reports of this from other Jeep owners as well. I would recommend NOT buying a wrangler JL>

3 months to get a part 2018 Jeep

I have searched for over a year for the perfect Jeep. I finally found a 2018 Wrangler Sahara. I had it for two days and filled up The gas tank for the first time. I quickly found out it had a gas leak so it was towed back to the dealership. Jeep does not have the part available. I have been told it is on backorder until the end of May 2018. I purchased the vehicle February 19th, 2018 and it was towed two days later. I am getting the run around that it is a new vehicle so not all parts are on hand. No one will answer questions. I just keep being told that they are trying to fast track it. Therefore, be careful when you purchase. Jeeps have a good name but this makes me exceptionally worried, angry, and frustrated. I would love to leave a better review but I have to have the vehicle to be able to review it. Customer service doesn’t even apologize. I am just basically being told to deal with it.

It's a Jeep! Or - a Fiat version of a Jeep

J. Harp, 05/16/2018
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M)

So, let me say this - the new JL Wrangler has improved a lot over the outgoing (but still offered for sale, for some reason) JK Wrangler. My biggest complaint is the build quality. Our Wrangler Unlimited Sahara showed up with one Freedom top panel a different color. No biggie, probably a Friday job car. But the battle to get it fixed with the local Jeep dealer in Medford OR was epic. Initially the dealer was confused as to why we would want all the top panels to match... Then when tasked with fixing it, they said "drop it off and we will send it to the body shop to get it painted" So we'd get a loaner for "3-4 weeks" Um, no... After several calls to FCA corporate, the dealer agreed to get a new panel and have it painted, and swap it out. After owning the Wrangler for a few weeks, we noticed little things wrong. Like the sunvisor was split open with the plastic guts sticking out. Not what you'd expect from a $50k car. The new 8-speed transmission flat out sucks. It is shifting constantly, even on flat ground. When towing it really never stops shifting. After calling the dealer service department, their response is pretty much "if it moves, and no warning lights are on, there's nothing we can do about it" - - Be warned, FCA will do "over the air" updates on the car. Gone are the days of the dealer forcing software updates on the vehicle when you drop it off for an oil change. After leaving the dealer, the (very expensive) 8.4" Uconnect screen had "Off Road" pages to show fun things like approach angle, oil temp, etc... The next day after getting the Wrangler home, POOF! They were gone, like they were never even there. FCA says it will be a feature on the 2019 Wrangler... LOL ; so how did they appear on a 2018 Wrangler then disappear? I will always wonder what Jeep might have evolved into had Daimler Mercedes retained ownership (a G-class equivalent !?) rather than Fiat taking over and doing what Fiat does best... Make no mistake, the Wrangler JL Unlimited is a fun car, and it is still a Jeep. And there are so many improvements over the JK. It just feels you should get something that "feels" more quality for $50 grand, rather than something that feels slapped together with a lousy transmission and the same boring old Pentastar V6 that FCA has put in just about every vehicle built for the last 10 years (who needs direct injection or turbochargers when a gas guzzler V6 still sells?)

Recently purchased a new 2018 Willy's Jeep. With 800 miles it has failed to restart on 5 occasions the most recent after driving only two miles to a gas station. Needed to call a tow truck. Told there is a problem with the transmission valve body electrical connection. Once vehicle is warm it will not turnover thinking the transmission is not in park or neutral. Let it sit for several hours and starts fine. Dealer says part not available as it is being engineered. No ETA on this part or solution. My daughter's first new car and very disappointed.

Update: 12/28/2019 - GPS/INFOTAINMENT SCREEN GOES BLACK. TO THE POINT THAT YOU CAN’T SEE ANYTHING ON THE SCREEN. IT DOESN’T DO THIS ALL THE TIME. WE HAVE TO CARRY AN EXTRA GPS WHEN TRAVELING. I’ve taken my Jeep Wrangler to two different dealers and both tell me the same thing - it seems to be working so there’s nothing we can do. I have a video which I showed to the service technician which shows the headlights going out when you turn off the wipers. His response was “I can’t get it to do that right now”. “So Jeep won’t authorize me to work on it.” Very same situation for the GPS/INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY. The display will not load. Again, I have a video of this which I showed to the technician. His response was “it seems to be working now “. I took the Jeep in when interior lights quit working. At first, the dealer tried telling me that I didn’t have that option. That’s why it didn’t work. I gave him a copy of the build sheet which shows that I did order and get that option. They kept the vehicle for four days and did nothing. They said Jeep was slow in getting back to them on instructions as to what they should do with it. Jeep has major wiring problems and are refusing to fix them. I’m sure someone will end up killed or seriously injured because of their refusal to fix the problems. I think that it’s very serious when your headlights go obut because you turn off your windshield wipers. I will never buy another Jeep product and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone else.

Porosity in welds and loose steering with no fix

WillNC, 08/13/2018
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M)
37 of 40 people found this review helpful

If you are going to purchase a JL or Rubicon, I would suggest having the dealership place the vehicle on a lift so that you can examine all of the welds. Pay special attention to the track bar bracket welds, rear sway bar welds, and other welds for body mount points and others. Many owners are finding out the hard way that their welds have a high amount of porosity (pinholes), weld slag, and welds that are not properly aligned with the weld joints they are intended to join. The steering in many of these Jeeps is also very loose, leaving a "dead zone" of several inches of play in the wheel. This makes the vehicle feel dangerous while at highway speeds or on more narrow roads because of the over-correcting of the wheel. Many owners have received new steering boxes to fix the issue. But it is a persistent issue affecting thousands of owners from all of my research over the past few weeks.

LEMONS!!! DO NOT BUY

Bought a brand new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara JL, 477 miles later and less than 30 days of ownership it was in the shop... and has been there for 29 straight days. The check engine light came on, multiple codes were thrown, one was multiple cylinders misfiring. The “technicians” are unable to actually work on the Jeep because it is so new that they are all untrained on it. They have to trouble shoot over the phone with a STAR technician. The engine is currently torn down and they are still unable to find the root cause of the issue. I’m currently working with FCA to get my money back since this is clearly a lemon. DO NOT BUY this vehicle!! If for some reason you just have to, make sure you know your Buy Back and Lemon Law rights and prepare yourself to be disappointed.

Think before buying a wrangler JL

I am a big fan of wrangler and this is my 5th wrangler. On July 2018 I bought an unlimited Rubicon automatic transmission. The new wrangler JL is more better than the old JK, at least that what I felt when I test drove the car, so I decided to buy it. From the 1st month I started to have problems with it. There is a knock sound from under the car whenever I start the engine, took it to the dealer they said it’s Normal ! The front left side of the dash there is a rattle sound. 2-3 months the air condition vent control will not direct the air to my feet when selected, took it to the dealer and I told them about the rattle sound from the dash, the dealer called me and Said the part for the air distribution was missing ( never been installed by the manufacturer! ) my whole dash was disassembled every part was removed from my dash, and the whole dashboard was leaning on my front seats, the center console was removed, the transmission lever was removed too, well they fixed the problem after being 12 days at the dealer, but still I have the rattling sound and it’s getting worse. My backup camera did not work twice since I bought the car, the screen went completely blue ! Took to the dealer and it worked by it self with No problem. Now I have a problem with 8.4 touch screen it freezed on me 2 times, nothing was working the whole screen freezed , all the air condition controls wasn’t working too, nothing on my dash buttons were working. the voice command button was not working, everything froze. I turned off the engine and restarted the car twice didn’t help, I have it video taped and I need to take it to the dealer. During Texas hot summer The air condition sometimes starts to give hot air in automatic mode, I have the temperature selector on 72, why I am getting hot air every 10-15 minutes ?! Now we are in the cold season, when I use the heater the air condition starts to blow cold air every 10-15 minutes and it stays for long time. The USB Data is not working as expected, I have my iPod connected but I have to unplug it and plug it again in order for the iPod to work, I never had any problem on my previous JKs. Seriously I don’t know what is going on with this car. I paid 47k for my Rubicon and I am expecting something good. I truly love my wrangler and I can’t imagine my garage without it, but I will take it to the dealer for the last time, if anything start to go wrong I will definitely going to sell it. Gas mileage is not as advertised, I logged 5000 miles so far, and I am getting 19.0 MPG on a highway driving with cruise control set at 65 miles/hour, city driving with traffic I am getting less than 13 MPG. I hope I won’t get any more problems otherwise I am going to miss my Pmnken color wrangler. My advice wait for a year or so before buying a new wrangler, maybe Jeep company will fix all these issues. I am not happy with my purchase.

death wobble occurred first at 4200 miles , and again about 2000 miles later . since the steering stabilizer was replaced the second time , all seems to be going well . that was the only problem that i have had , but it was an eye-opener when it did happen . i came out of a ford f150 after (8) years , and 190,000 miles , and had never experienced that before . when it happens at 70mph , it is a scary thing , i did report it to the government safety board .

The 18 JLUR is a good looking vehicle but that is about it. Rides horrible but that is to be expected. The problem is the steering. It wanders on road to the point it’s no fun to drive. You can google the issues they are having with the steering.

I had to special order my 2018 JL Sport S since 2 door models with the 3.6 v6, 6 speed manual transmission, a soft top and technology package are rare. Because of that, I seem to have missed all of the recalls that are effecting the earlier builds. After a month and 1,600 miles, I can share some observations. Likes: The new soft top is fantastic! So much easier to lower & raise compared to my 2002 TJ. Seats are very good and, along with the tilt/telescoping steering wheel, it’s easy to get comfortable. In mixed driving I’m averaging 20.1 mpg which, compared to the 14 mpg in the TJ is decent. The uConnect iPhone interface works well and the standard speakers sound pretty good. Dislikes: The 6 speed manual is good but the clutch SUCKS. Way too light and the engagement point seems to change every time you take off from a stop. Very odd. Besides the TJ and a Porsche Boxster-S I currently drive, I’ve owned 20+ cars with stick shifts and NONE have ever had such a vague feel. I’m not a fan of the stock Bridgestone tires and can’t wait for them to wear out so I can install some BFG KO2’s Regrets: I should have ordered the automatic trans. Bottom line: I’m happy with the JL so far. Since it is a new model, I do check the VIN on the Mopar site on a regular basis. Also, to avoid issues if/when my Jeep needs repairs, I did research my three local dealers service departments before choosing one to lease from. Since it is a lease, I can’t do much accessorizing, but I do have the option of turning it in after 36 months if my experience goes bad.

Do not buy a Jeep Rubicon

I ordered a brand new 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL 2 door. It is now a year and a half old with only 9100 miles on it. Low miles because the Jeep was unsafe to drive due to the steering issue. I finally spent over $1200 on replacing all steering components, steering stabilizer and front lower control arms. I did this because the FCA would not and could not fix it. They keep saying its the steering stabilizer and it is not. The caster from the factory is way off. I have driven Jeeps since I was 16 years old and now Im 55 and highly disappointed not only with the Jeep (that I fixed) but mostly with the Jeep brand for not standing behind their vehicles. This will be my last Jeep. Toyota here I come.

Stuck with a BAD Jeep BAD Service

L.C.L, 11/27/2019
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M)
6 of 7 people found this review helpful

I bought my 2018 Jeep Sahara 14 months ago. From day one, it was in and out of the shop for "loose bolts" in the steering column. I only discovered the issue because the radio speakers would vibrate constantly. Four months ago while on a Los Angeles freeway, I lost control of the Jeep when the steering wheel began to shake violently causing me to pull off the road. When I finally got it to the dealer, they basically told me I was crazy and that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. One month later, I got a notice in the mail to replace a part in the steering column. Last night as I was preparing to leave work, I started the vehicle & all the lights on the dashboard lit up. The steering wheel wouldn't budge. It wouldn't turn left or right no matter how hard I tried. Also the engine sounded different and not right. I ended up getting a tow from work to the dealer. I'm told this time, I'm told its "likely an electrical issue in the steering column". The worst part...the guys at the dealership could care less and the service is VERY substandard. They said I'd be without the car for the Holiday weekend (understandable) and into the following week (unacceptable). I just want OUT of this Jeep! I'm sick of paying for a car that looks great but frightens me to drive. I don't feel safe! If anyone else out there has experienced this, I'd like to know if you were able to get it fixed properly.

Owning a Jeep Wrangler has long been on my list of vehicles to own, but it was always a big compromise in on-road manners to gain off-road prowess. That compromise is no longer an issue with the new 2018 JL Wrangler Rubicon. The new Wrangler is MUCH more composed and well behaved on the road than the previous version, offers significant improvements in economy and comfort that makes the Rubicon almost as good as a daily driver as it is wandering the great outdoors. We purchased an ORANGE 4-door Wrangler Rubicon with the 2.0L turbo and have loved every minute. Not many vehicles can pull off a color like this but it looks great with the black fenders and hard top. Plus when recently hiking the local mountains we could see it from a mile away (for the directionally challenged :) The comfort improvements are remarkable, but don't expect this to ride like a mini-van. It's still loud and bumpy, but not so much as before and definitely within reason for a an off-road SUV. Highway noise is present but not obtrusive. Handling is good for a vehicle with 11 inches of ground clearance and stock 33-inch off-road tires. Off-road is where the Rubicon comes alive. The stock Rubicon has enough off-road hardware that you always feel comfortable and capable regardless of the trail condition. The little 2.0 has plenty of torque and power and doesn't drain the gas tank. We averaged almost 23 MPG for our trip up the mountain, several hours spent on the trails, and back again. The engine has been a gem. The stop/start function takes a little getting used to, but now I have it on all the time and love to hear it shut off (and stop using fuel) when sitting at long stop lights or waiting in the drive-thru line. The 2018 JL Wrangler has also caught up with technology. We opted for the 7.0 touchscreen and the LED lighting package. The infotainment system integrates with Carplay for music and navigation (works well so far). The LED light package really gives the Wrangler a modern look outside. They went all-out on the LED lights including interior lights, tail lights, even the license plate light is LED. And finally there is nothing like driving the Wrangler with the front roof panels removed. It's a simple process and really lets you enjoy the great outdoors. I don't know if I'll ever go fully topless for a variety of reasons, but I've already got my eye on a reasonably prices roof hoist system to make roof removal fast and easy. If you've ever wanted a Wrangler, this is the vehicle to buy!!! Update August 2021: It's been almost 3 years since we first purchased our Wrangler. While we haven't yet taken the roof off, we did add the Sunrider for the hard top which makes is SUPER convenient to go open air. You don't even have to get out of the drives seat. Best upgrade yet! Other than that there have been a couple of minor warranty issues (broken sun visor and GPS recalibration) but otherwise she's almost like new! Still gets decent mileage (22-24 mpg mixed driving) and we've added a long list of accessories and upgrades (bumpers, winch, etc.) but have left the suspension and wheels/tires stock. The JLUR is a very capable off-road vehicle just as she is and haven't yet wished for more. Still as happy with this purchase today as we were back in Oct. 2018.

This is my first wrangler, so I can’t compare it to previous generations, however; based on my search and reviews, this truck has a lot of improvements. I like the alpine sound system, the LED package, and of course the 6 speed manual transmission. The Apple car play syncs very well. I have had the truck for two weeks already put 900 miles on it.. If I would improve anything, I would like a bigger glove box and a bigger cup holders,

Run Forest Run!!! 2018 JL and I too could write several paragraphs detailing the problems we've had with ours from the 1st week of owning it, but I'm not going to keep wasting my time on this POS Jeep. We picked it up from the dealer again (and again, and again, and again, you get the point) and then went on vacation for a week. The day after we got back we drove it to town and who'd a thunk it, the check engine light came on again. I guess our next step is a lawyer! RUN and I mean RUN past the Jeeps, hell, for that matter RUN past anything that is Fiat/Chrysler/Ram. The dealership has been just as bad as the Jeep! Next time you see one and think "Wow that's a sharp looking ride, I should buy one" slap your self, and keep slapping until you pass out! Thank God I only wasted 30ish on this POS, you guys that spent 40's, 50's and yes 60's are hating life.

Quality is improved, ride noise in down, technology is improved and of course still the most capable out of the box vehicle you can buy. Go anywhere and be unstoppable with a Jeep. The leather is on par with even luxury SUV’s. My only complaints are with safety tech- 2018 offers no active braking or anything else to that effect, only 2019’s as an option. Then the touch screen. While improved still useless unless you get the top tier 8” screen with apple android car play. How this is not standard we will never know! Visibility improved and feels great on the road.

Have had this vehicle since July 2018 and it is a blast to drive, both on and off road. Not a bit of mechanical trouble, but you must get used to the "off-road" oriented nature of the vehicle (not the sharpest, on-road steering, etc.) or else you'll feel there's something wrong. The U-Connect system is the best in the industry, the mileage is decent (low 20's) for what it is, and it always a joy to drive. Stay with the manual & you'll understand what real driving is like!

18 Jeep Rubicon, 9,025 miles. It was delievered to me on 2/9/19 and I drove it everyday even to work which is about 40 miles each way with no problems. I took it to my nearby Jeep dealership to have it checked out on 2/16/19 and they found no issues. I didnt drive it on 2/17/19. I got into my Jeep on 2/18/19 and all heck broke loose, lights on the dash was flickering and after a few minutes everything went black :surprised:. It was abnormally cold that day so I thought it was the cold weather. I went to my 2013 civic that I didnt drive for over a week and started right up smh I never felt compelled in my 30yrs + of driving to sign up for AAA. I'm in contact with FCA and the online company I bought it from. I hope they take this Jeep back because I don't feel safe driving it even if they "fix" it. I really liked my Jeep when it was working (for 8 days). I wasn't planning to do any rock climbing with it just overlanding, exploring areas I've never been to and take it up to the snow. I could probably still do it if I am towing a Toyota tacoma or tundra in case the Jeep breaks down. I get envious when I see a Jeep on the road but now I think it probably just got out of the shop.

Purchased our 2018 JL Unlimited Rubicon about a week ago. We have experienced rain every single day since then, so our Jeep has yet to have its top or freedom panels off. The Jeep handles well, brakes well, accelerates fairly well for a V6 of this weight, and the ride is smoother than expected. Cabin noise is more noticeable in the Rubicon (than the Sahara trim level) due to the tires and additional height, but it is not bad. The interior is attractive, comfortable, and the laid out well. Too early to comment on the gas mileage, but the Jeep is approximating the posted values by the manufacturer thus far. Reliability and repair frequency Is not applicable at this stage. We did purchase the 10 year, bumper to bumper extended warranty as a precaution based on poor experiences with a GM product years ago.

Much better acceleration than the earlier JK with the same engine. The eight-speed transmission is a huge upgrade from the old five speed, especially during long-off-road descents. The interior trim and and leather seats are nicely designed and quite appealing, unlike some of the spartan interiors of past models. If you like all of the off-road capabilities of a Jeep but also enjoy creature comforts, spend a little more for the upgrades.

I was sad to see all the issues everyone has had with their JL models. I had one myself and absolutely loved it, had a small issue with the steering when I first picked it up and it was resolved with a new stabilizer. I put 31K miles on it in 10 months and had to trade it in because it was a lease and I was just putting to many miles on it. I traded it for a Toyota Tacoma and regret it ever since. The Jeep was just so much more fun, more power, 24 MPG avg. Miss taking the tops off and letting in the sun. Will buy another someday!

Well I’ve had mine for almost a year now, with 9200 miles and no real issues. I bought a leftover 18, and I am thoroughly impressed. First, the exterior, the belt line, the stying cues of the TJ, along with the grill that resembles the CJ, makes it very attractive and keeps in tact it’s heritage. Forget the JK, the JL is the true successor to the TJ with significantly more refinement. As for the drivetrain, I got the 2.0 etorque with the 8 speed manual, and I am impressed! When you hit the gas, it has great pickup and the electric assist motor almost makes it sound like the Deloreon! It makes me giggle at the acceleration, and I’m an old guy. Otherwise, the interior is a significant improvement, and it feels more like a Jeep and less like a Chrysler like the JK did. This is my third Wrangler, and it’s by far the best.

It's not a boring daily driver

I bought a 2018 Wrangler JL Unlimited to have something fun and quirky for a weekend vehicle and to place business decals on it for some eye-catching advertising. I am now nearing the end of my 48-month lease and going to turn it back in. I did experience the death wobble in the first 12 months while driving around 70mph on the Interstate. It was really just as scary as you might imagine for something called "death wobble". I am fortunate to have a decent dealership in my area and they have always done great work on my Ram pickup and on this Jeep Wrangler. They took care of the death wobble with the recommended repair that the factory suggested. I've never had another issue with any death wobble for the next three years after that repair was made. At some point around 20,000 miles I had a check engine light and the dealer said they just had to update the computer system and that seemed to take care of the engine light. No charge for that. Around 35,000 miles I had a dash light indicate a problem with the air bag system and the dealer determined I needed to replace the driver's side seat belt assembly for $700. Not excited about that, but at least they always fix my issues on the first try. So now I have 43,000 miles on the Jeep and the original tires still look excellent with no uneven wearing. The Jeep is still fun to drive and everything works fine with it. However, I would never recommend a Wrangler as a daily driver. It will wander all over the road on the highway and you need to be prepared to replace the windshield frequently. We have no deductible glass replacement and I am on my 3rd windshield because of rocks hitting the windshield while driving on the highway. Luckily, I have a local glass company that gets original Mopar windshields and they are good as new with no deductible. If I lived around a beach or small town where I just drive the Jeep around town and for fun on weekends, I would likely keep this Wrangler because it is really fun and quirky. When driving a Wrangler, you just feel more connected to the outside world around you. It is enjoyable, but not the same as a standard passenger vehicle for driving to work or school every day. As far as the engine, I have the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo and I really like it a lot. It's plenty fast and responsive, but also gets reasonable mileage. I typically get 27 to 29 mpg. It also has plenty of power to pass quickly at highway speeds. I would only recommend a Jeep Wrangler to people who are not using this as their primary vehicle daily driver. It's a fun and capable vehicle for off-roading or for recreational driving in your fun times.

Worst Vehicle I've Ever Owned

Chuck, 05/26/2020

3 of 4 people found this review helpful

I wish I had seen this discussion about the reliability of the JL's prior to purchasing in the spring of 2018. I don't know where to begin other than to say this is, by far, the worst vehicle I've ever owned, and if nothing else comes out of this post I hope I can dissuade someone from buying a Wrangler JL until FCA sorts out their manufacturing problems and stands behind their warranty. Thus far, I've had four warranty service visits (excluding recalls and oil changes, etc), and am getting ready to schedule my fifth visit. Down time on the car, per the local dealership, currently stands at 24 days - with four repairs of the same part - the auto stop/start function, all within 2 years of walking off the lot with my new JL. On top of the auto start/stop function being sporadic and triggering the CEL, I've been left stranded on the highway due to overheating (I see others have had that issue too), and now I have a large puddle of coolant under my car as it awaits its fifth service visit. This time, prior to taking my vehicle to the dealer, I called FCA to complain and seek some resolution. The service rep informed me that I just can't have really high expectations of an off-road vehicle. Great...nice response. I told the rep my GM, Chevrolet, Mercedes, and AM General vehicles I've owned - all vehicles that were sold with close to 200k miles on them - never had issues like this, and his response..."well that's different"...with no offer of resolution other than to connect with the local dealership before I drop it off yet again. I'm giving FCA one last chance to get it fixed and stand behind their warranty. If not, my next call is to a Lemon law attorney.

I purchased the JK Willy's version in 4 door. The primary reason is that it did not have the ESS system and had a 5 speed automatic transmission. I find the 5 speed does not do the continual shifting in the mountains of Colorado like the new 8 seed transmission does. I do sacrifice some mpg however. I am estimating about 2 mpg. Overall I am very pleased with the vehicle.

Just had third occurrence of my new 2018 Wrangler JL not starting.not the battery. Dealer can't seem to determine cause. Since I have a summer home on an island and would like to take it off reading on the beach, I no longer trust the vehicle won't start again. By the way, being on an island requires me to bring the vehicle to the mainland for "repair". Thus a ferry ride over and back to the island. No licensed Chrysler dealers on this island. Am considering invoking state lemon law.

Yes it was built and designed by humans, but ours is perfect. Great acceleration, incredible fuel economy, can’t be stopped off road, convertible, and everything works just as designed. Updated Feb 2021; Some plastic interior trim (all to do with roof removal), and seat belt buckle surrounds have broken. Otherwise continues to AMAZE. 0-16 degrees consecutively with 18” of snow ❄️ over ice 🧊. This beast was unstoppable. 40,000 ish miles now. Some valve chatter. Noticeable with doors and roof off. Still Amazing ❗️

I bought a 2018 jeep JL wrangler with a 2.0L turbo 4 cylinder engine. It had spent more time in the shop than anything ever. So far I have had two fuel pumps, a wire harness for fuel pump, numerous sensors, new stereo, parts replaced on soft top and now a new turbo. I have 60800 miles on this thing and this all started at 16000 miles and I bought it may 16th of 2019. I would not recommend anyone buying a jeep after the problems this jeep has had and customer service just keeps saying there is nothing they can do. I can't go lower than one star or I would.

Took 3 visits for my transmission leak to get corrected, they replaced it. 7500 miles was leaking since day one. Was leaking through the case casting. I love my Jeep, but I hate the poor quality and how cheaply it’s made.

Great Jeep. Wife is super happy... so that make's me happy! Mojito Green is a fun color! These have way more creature comforts than my old Jeeps!

I feel bad for all the people that had bad experiences with Jeep. I'll never buy an other Chevy because of a bad one I had. I have been a faithful Jeep owner since my 1979 Cherokee, have always had one in the drive way. The 2018 JL 2 door sport 3.6 is the most impressing of all the Jeeps I've had. It tows my dirt bikes and street bikes easily and back up is a synch. Dragging logs out of the woods with ease. Solid and stable in every aspect I've put it through. Uconnect pairs every time and the sound it decent for a stock system. Getting about 22 mpg on my commute daily. There is a bit of wind noise but it's a jeep and that's ok by me. I have not had the "wobble" issue in the steering as others have so I can't comment on that. The interior is by far the best Jeep has come out with for a Wrangler. Controls are at proper locations for me. You sit up and can see over traffic in an alert position. Three part top is great, much better than the one part top that took 3-4 people to remove. We bought one that had electronic nothing the most base package you can. Power windows, locks in a Wrangler, Why? If you test drive it, the Wrangler will sell it's self. Good acceleration and good power for a 6 cyl. A gazillion accessories are available if one is so inclined. Had it for 2 years now and still love it. It's my go to vehicle for every day.
