My midlife crisis vehicle
We have had our Jeep Liberty Renegade about a week now and both my wife and I love it. It has lots of power and is real fun to drive. The interior is well configured and has plenty of room. In researching this vehicle before I bought it, there were some complaints about the transmission hump getting in the way of the drivers legroom, we don't have any problems, (so Far)
The Wifes Jeep
It took a while to talk her away from a PT Cruiser, but she's glad I did. This is just a grwat little ride, but you have to remember it IS a Jeep. If you want a ride like a 300M then you should buy a 300M,
- Renegade 4dr SUVMSRP: $5,9506 mi away
- Sport 4dr SUVMSRP: $4,45023 mi away
- Sport 4dr SUVMSRP: $4,59523 mi away
For the price this is the best SUV.
Just got the new Liberty. I have only owned Jeeps my whole life. From the Wrangler to the Cherokee to the Grand Cherokee. This is a great vehicle that not only is economical to purhase but has the great engine that won't ever die.
AWESOME CAR!!!
its a really neat car, i love the way it drives and you know that your behind a lot of power when you are behind the wheel.
Jeep
Great car with lot's of power and 'heft' in the driving feel. 3.7 6 cyl. provides a great kick. Moderate road noise with hum/whine from automatic transmission, which is a little annoying at higher speeds.
Sluggish and Jerky
I love the look but hate the performance. At slow speeds it lurches when you step on the gas. Climbing and hill in goes to a higher gear instead of downshifting. At all other times, it is fun to drive and very comfortable. Looks good on the road. Even with the sound upgrade, the stereo is poor.
DON'T BUY THE JEEP LIBERTY
MULTIPLE BRAKE PROBLEMS, SEVERE GRINDING AND CLUNKING NOISES. IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. SEVERAL DEALERSHIP VISITS "COULD NOT REPEAT NOISE". ENTIRE BRAKES REPLACED TWICE. NOW A STB HAS STATED THAT A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WILL NECESSITATE ROTOR REPLACEMENT, WHEN THE PARTS COME IN, HA! ALSO, HAD THE TRANSMISSION SEAL REPLACED. I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE BALL JOINT RECALL, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM JEEP CONCERNING THIS MATTER.
trial by fire
I purchase this vehicle in the midle of the german winter, and as luck will have it the day after I picked the vehicle up we have a week long snow storm in the area. I was concerned about getting stuck in the thick snow, as a saw several vehicles do. The 4WD capabilities of me jeep were amazing, I did not have any trouble, sorting through the bad weather. I love the style of the vehicle, it has a rough yet refined look, and it gets complements from other SUV owners everywhere I go.
great
Its fun and reliable. I love it.
fun to drive,
i bought the 6cyl. standard shift.it is easy and fun to drive.easy to get in and out.easy to clean the windshield.the rear glass and door openng is unique.plenty of room front and back.plenty of power,i just came back from towing my 3500# boat and trailer without any trouble.my ist fuel fill was 20mpg with local and highway driving.
Awesome
This is the best vehicle I have ever bought. It has great pickup and off- road capability. I highly recommend it to anyone. I traded in my Xterra for it and it was the best auto purchase I have ever done.
love it
it my first jeep and i love it
Jeep Liberty vs Ford Escape
As a dyed in the wool Ford guy, I was surprised when I recently traded in the 2001 Ford Escape for a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The comparison provided by Edmunds was right on, the Jeep has rugged but refined styling and out performs the Escape in all but a few areas. It has more HP, more torque, larger fuel tank and more creature comforts. My wife loves the steering column audio controls and I like the power passenger seat, none of which are available on the Escape. The EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center), is a blast, this thing even monitors my tire pressure! Jeep has come a long way since the old days of the Comanche and the Wagoneer.
Give me Liberty or give me death! HA!
love it!
Fun to Drive
Have had the Liberty Columbia for about a week now. Overall, extremely fun to drive and can handle the 6 inches of snow last night without even blinking.
GO LIBERTY!
When the Liberty first came out I was optimistic about its look and overtime it grew on me and I eventually took one for a test drive and feel in love with it. It has the fun and ruggedness of the wrangler and the luxury comfort of the grand cherokee. I have taken my liberty off road and I am much more impressed with its handeling than the wrangler , not to mention that it is much better on gas.
Wife loves it!
My wife bought this Jeep for work. She love it's quickness, handling, surprisingly decent gas mileage for a v6 its and maneuverability (turn radius). I would not recommend it for extremely long trips due to the short wheel base, keep trips to 100 miles or less. It has had a few recalls which our local dealership has been very quick at responding to. There is a little rust bubbling under the paint at the pop up Glass at rear door just under the third brake lite at the welding seam. It's covered again by jeeps 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. Wife says she will always own a Jeep.
love it
It is a great town and country drive.
Buy a warranty if you get a Jeep
We purchased our nearly new Liberty Limited in April 2005, with only 12K on the odometer. We installed a set of new tires two yrs ago, installed a new battery and new brakes one year ago. It recently hit the 80K mark and in the last three months, they replaced the High Pressure Power Steering hose, the Alternator, Water Pump, Serpentine Belt, and today a brand new Radiator and new Hoses was added to the list. Fortunately we had purchased an extended warranty so everything except hoses/belts/fluids was covered, but we had to pay a $50 ded. each time... Word to the wise... it's a Chrysler product and purchasing an extended warranty is well worth the money...
Big disappointment
The rear hatch latch had to be repaired 3 separate time. Now the A/C compressor clutch has gone out after only 40,000 miles. After markets don't even carry the part because they said it should not have failed already. Jeep customer service has been no help in either case. I won't buy another DaimlerChrysler product based on how they treat their customers. Two wheel drive in the snow is terrible. The windows make an awful noise when all are down, it sounds like a helicopter inside the Jeep. The luggage rack makes a whistling sound when crossbars are on. Exterior is a poor design and interior does not have enough room.
Shifty Transmission '04 Liberty
Transmission always thumped shifting from 1st to 2nd. At 29,000 transmission failed and had to be replaced. Dealer support was great. At 30,000 the brakes are making noises. Transmission is starting to thump from 1st to 2nd again.
I LOVE MY LIBERTY
I love my Jeep Liberty. It is fun to drive and handles really well.
Jeep Liberty Sport
This SUV is great. Gets good gas mileage, handles well and is a comfort to ride in. Plenty of rear passenger room and storage space.
Jeep Lib
Great car!! Fun to drive
the most fun to drive
I have owned at least 7 SUV's. The 2004 Liberty is the best yet. It is the tightest feeling, solid one I've owned. It drives great, and handles well. The dealer was the greatest, he made buying it a pleasure.
Best Jeep Ever!!!!!!
This is the best jeep I have ever owned! It's a blast to drive the quality is outstanding! What a fun truck, it fourwheels great.
breaks lock up on their own potential death trap
DO NOT buy a Jeep period!! Read the hundreds of complaints and recalls. I have a 2004 Jeep liberty, bought brand new and only have 84000 miles. My breaks are locking up and I cant drive forward, goes in reverse tho. I almost got killed the other day when this happened and not one mechanic knows how to fix it. Read reviews from people with the same problem that have invested over $4000 and the problem still isn't fixed. I would never ever buy a Jeep again and reading all of this the Jeep Cherokee's are even WORSE!!!!!

DONT BUY!
Buying this car was the biggest mistake. With no warning I had to get the transmission fixed and after that everything went down hill. Put more money into the car than what its worth. Learned a costly lesson
I hate it
We bought this Jeep thinking it would be reliable for our daughter as she just turned 16. So far she's terrified to drive it because the car has spun multiple times from poor traction. I've sat it in more now and see that the seats are extremely uncomfortable, the technology/music is hard to reach and you have to lean forward to get to it. The wheel base is short and the vehicle is hard to turn and maneuver when you are an inexperienced driver, I wish that my husband and I would have gotten a better car for our daughter and we are highly considering getting her a different car.
Jeep
A great SUV for my wife. Its small size makes it easy for her to handle and extremly tight turns make it a sinch to park. Fun car!
Love the liberty
Love the Liberty, wish the gas mileage was better!
Love my Liberty
Great handling, comfortable seats. Good gas mileage for the gutsy-performing V-6 Turning diameter is great and in 4- wheel drive will go almost anywhere.
Its OK
I kinda liked this car but it coulda been better.
Fun Fun and more Fun
Yes a jeep with the attitude of the jeep and finally with some comfort. For those who love the jeep as only we can this is one of the best beast they have made for use urban dwellers wanting to get back into nature of the beaten path. Let the fun begin and bring the family in style and comfort.
mr
we used to have a pontiac trans am. and after buying this jeep i wouldnt drive anything else
Great Purchase
Great ride... very glad I decided to buy it. Handles great in snow and rain!!! Fun to drive long distances. Plenty of room and has great pick up.
Liberty
I like the liberty except for the way the back opens. The window that pops up has to be touched to close and always has fingerprints on it....there should be some kind of handle so you don't have to touch the glass. I drove a grand cherokee prior to this and like the size of the Liberty better for my purposes.
Thrilled in Indy with Jeep Liberty
I had a Chrysler Concorde for 3 years. I had wanted a bigger car, I was driving a 88 Sundance (can you tell my father worked for chrysler 38yrs in indy. I felt I needed something more family and professional. It was wonderful to drive, but it was just not me. It made me feel old and it was too big. So when the Liberty came out--it had my name written all over it! And the limited is the bomb. I have a gold package too! I get compliments daily. And I still have all the luxuries of the Concorde and it sporty like the Cheeoke or Darango. I'll keep this car at least 10yrs.
Jeep Liberty fun to own
You can't buy a better vehicle for the money. Its a ton of fun to drive , with lots of power and plenty of room.
Gas Mileage Stinks
I find the transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd very hard. Then when coming to a stop it doesn't down shift back to 1st until about 4 seconds after I stop. The dealer claims its just learning my driving style & when it learns it ... this will stop??? I have owned V-8's that get better gas mileage. I find 14mpg in the city as being unacceptable from such a small 3.7L engine.
2004 Jeep Libery is great.
I've heard that this Jeep is thirsty at the pump. My new Jeep is getting 19.8 mpg driving in the city. Maybe that is bad, but it is good to me. Someone else said when you close the back glass you leave finger prints on it. My back glass has a plastic piece on it to avoid that. Plenty of head room.
Love it, Love it, Love it!
I just got my Liberty 3 days ago trading up from a wrangler. At first I wasn't even going to test drive one because I didn't like the way they looked (we also have a Santa Fe, love that too!} After test driving it and seeing all the features I had to have it!!
bad to good
I had a 2001 jeep cherokee sport, last year made, poor quality... could tell it was one of the last. Had a 1998 and the quality was much better. The liberty has a much more sound build. Things seem to fit better together. The comfort of the seats are also better. Gas, ulk I really thought it would be a little more efficient than it is. I really like it.
dont get the 4 cyl
nice truck for the money, I have the 4cyl 5 spd man trans, truck cannot get out of its own way. Other than that, I like it
NH Review
A great vehicle. Very tight, fun to drive and sporty looking.
Extremely off-road capable
Bought this Jeep brand new in 2004 & has never been in the repair shop once until July 2008, for routine maintenance. When I bought new I had the dealer install the skid plate group, tow hooks & rock rails. I have taken this Jeep off-road many times & it's quite impressive, I believe it's more rugged than most people realize. I should know because I have previously owned a 1946 CJ2-A & also a 1972 CJ-6. I do most of my 4 wheeling in Michigan & I was honestly surprised at some of the muddy situations I was able to get out of. One thing I've noticed as a 43 year old male over the last 4 years, this car is very popular with the woman. In fact my wife loves this car because it's reliable & small
Bailey Jeep Liberty
I have had my Jeep Liberty for two weeks and I love it. I had a Wrangler and loved that, too, but I feel safer in the Liberty since it feels stronger and heavier. The interior is very comfortable and the exterior still maintains a jeep look. I would suggest an interior button or switch for the rear window so I would not have to rely on the remote control.
It's a Jeep thing
I love this vehicle, Fun to drive, great handling, and perfect acceleration. Can turn around on a dime.
Great Jeep
I love my Liberty!!!!!! Couldn't ask for a better vehicle! Who ever came up with the body style had great style themselves. It's a looker and it get the looks
Daimler Chrysler
I have a sister who has owned Mercedes for the past 40 years. You would not believe how much Mercedes is in my Liberty. Even the ride is comparable to Mercedes. It feels so tight. Now I'm looking to buy a Liberty diesel, as mileage is not very good.
