nice family SUV
We love our new Jeep and are very pleased overall. It feels great to drive! We have two small childrena and getting them in and ut of this vehicle is SO easy.
Big Improvement
I have to say that I'm overall impressed with the Gran. Cher. Laredo. I've read alot of reviews on these Jeeps and some of them are way too critical. Although I also have a ticking noise when I start it, the ticking goes away after 5 min. or so. I think if the buyers would let the thing warm up in the mornin' they would see the same results. I love the way it drives compared to every SUV I've drove or even ridden in. It's so comfortable, my girlfriend and I drove 18 hours to Dallas and she slept 3/4 of the way. Plus it averaged 21mpg @ 75mph. I guess what I'm trying to say is the Jeep has come a long way, and on that I think we can all agree.

Not a satisfied customer
My wife has always loved jeeps. We bought '04 G.C. Laredo 4X4 4.0L SFI. The engine ticks. Almost all the time sometimes loud sometimes quiet we've had it checked out by a certified dealership($69)and they said the 4.0L is notorious for being noisy. Everything checked out fine. FYI it only now has 40k miles on it and gets 13.3 MPG in town 19.9 on HWY. (65 mph for 72 mi.HWY). Other than a noisy motor & Terrible MPG it's not bad. Believe me when I tell you I take care of the oil changes and baby my $15k Automobile. It just ticks all the time and is embarrasing. "But thats just the 4.0L its a noisy motor." We spend $250- $300 a month in fuel at $3.39 9/10 gallon.
I love this Jeep
I love this Jeep, it would be the perfect vehicle if it got better gas mileage. I feel confident driving it where ever I take it. We camp a lot and show dogs so we are off road many times, does great.
2004 JEEP, NO CHANGE IN STYLE
THIS IS A SECOND TIME BACK TO BACK BUYER OG JEEP, MY PREVIOUS WAS A USED 1999 LMT V-8 JEEP. I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE COMFORT OF THE 2004 MODEL OVER THE 1999. IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM THE V-8 ENGINE IS UNSERPASSED AND NICE TO HAVE THE USE.
I love my Jeep
This is the first Jeep I've ever owned. For years I drove a Camaro convertible and never thought I could find another vehicle that would replace the love I had for my Camaro. But I found the replacement. I now drive a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition. It's color is black crystal. I love this car! Sporty styling with a spacious luxury interior. Who could ask (or want) more??
just jeep
no problems on or off road---and fast!
Satisfied
This car is just what I expected it to be. I love it! It is the best riding SUV I have ever owned and it still goes off road with confidence.
I LOVE MY JEEP
I LOVE MY NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WITH THE OVERLAND PACKAGE. IT IS A 2004 MODEL. IT EVEN HAS GPS IN THE DASH. I RECOMMEND THIS FEATURE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN GPS. I LOVE IT. I DISAGREE WITH WHAT EDMUNDS.COM WROTE ABOUT THE JEEP. THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOISY AND UNREFINED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IT HAS QUESTIONABLE RELIABLITY AND TRUCK LIKE ON ROAD HANDLING. THEY ARE COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT THIS. IF THEY THE THINK THEY ARE RIGHT, THEN LET THEM DRIVE THE 2002 FORD F-150 EXTENDED CAB PICK UP THAT I TRADED IN FOR THE NEW JEEP. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE F-150 AND THE JEEP IS LIKE NIGHT AND DAY.
Jeep cannot be beaten
Buying the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was the best design I could have possibly made. This is an incredible vehicle. Capability doesn't shy from the original American Motors Jeeps. I previously owned a 1986 Cherokee and was sad to depart with what I consider the most comprehensive and powerful 4- wheel drive system ever made. But, the 2004 is quiet, very comfortable, and the 4-wheel drive is still just as capable. Not only is it a great ride but it is a gorgeous design. The front fascia has been modified from the 2003 adding circular fog lamps which are excellent in all conditions. I would recommend this car to anyone.
Jeep great offroad
Live in Manitoba Canada. We really have enjoyed this vehicle and use it regularly off road to go to our remote cottage. Factory tires were garbage and replaced with BFG TA KO's. Can't imagine how a vehicle of this caliber & price could be equipped with such lousy tires. Fuel economy acceptable for a V8 SUV. Glad we didn't get a 6 cyl. Quadra-Trac 11 is pretty neat
Love My Jeep
I work for a Jeep dealership, so I was well informed about the Grand Cherokee's, and I am not disappointed at all. My previous cars were a camaro and a dodge ram, and I am so glad I finally have a Grand Cherokee. The seats are so much more comfortable than the previous two vehicles, and the ride feel is inbetween a car and truck feel - and coming out of a truck, it's a huge improvement. I love that even the base models have so many standard option.. I can't live without keyless entry! I wish the I6 had more power(I just came out of a V8..so I may just be spoiled), much it is certainly enough for everyday driving.
Very Powerfu,l Yet Well Refined
I looked at a lot of SUV'S and this by far the Grand Cherokee was the most soild nicest rideing vehical I drove. I have the 4.7 High Output V8 this moter is so powerful and the five speed Transmission shifts so smoothly that the engine hardly reves. If you are in the market for an SUV drive the Jeep Grand Cherokee first because you will compare it to everything else you drive and I think you will come back to the Jeep.
2004 Jeep Overland
Solid frame, excellent power, good handling for a SUV. Jeep has been doing it for so long, it only gets better. Very reliable vehicle.
Unreliable
I bought the 2004 GC Overland in 2006 with 27,000. I have had nothing but issues with this unit. Brake rotors (at 27k), all 4 window motors, seat heaters, ac had to be replaced, seat motors, the roof was rusting, power steering pump.. the list goes on..you name it. I loved the vehicle when I purchased it but let me warn you, these are a maintenance nightmare. Avoid Jeep, I have spent over 5k in repairs over the years (most happened right after the 36k warranty expired.) I gladly traded this nightmare in for a Toyota, my first foreign car. (I previously bought from the big three however cant risk or afford another situation like this.) To hell with Jeep and Chrysler!
Biggest "HEAP" ever
I hardly even drive this car and it has had every problem in the book: brake failure, electrical, transmission, and oil tank leaks and ALL before 50,000 Miles. It is weak and has horrible handling. The dealership charges WAY too much for service and it feels like I'm driving a motor home. It is way too hard to maneuver in traffic and you feel like your going to tip over on every turn!! resell value was HORRIBLE! Save yourself the trouble and don't buy a jeep!! this is the first and last time I will buy an American car, back to Japanese auto makers
Love it!
Prior to this, I owned a Jeep Wrangler. While I loved that Jeep (a V6), this baby drives itself! Of course, the V8 is rough on the gas tank, but I don't mind because I don't drive that much. Got me through a Buffalo Winter with the all-time 4x4. Comfortable for longer trips. Gas prices would have to double before I would even consider trading it in!
I love it but...
I love the truck but it does have a few hitches. On the transition from one gear to another you can hear and feel the grind of the gears. You must apply just the right gas pressure or none at all to make it through without an issue. And man, wow, guzzles gas. But the most comfortable ride I have even been blessed to ride in. Wonderful feel and a lot of fun options make this the best car I have ever owned.
Brake rotors
This was my first effort to return to a traditional "American" car after 30 years of buying foreign. I had read that the reliability of "American" cars had improved significantly and nearly equaled that of Japanese. My Jeep evidenced good quality and reliability until it reached 10,000 miles. It then developed problems, such as the need to repair the brake rotors. This was a common problem at this mileage level with older Jeeps, but I thought it had been remedied. Chrysler/Jeep previously warranted them for 3 yrs/36,000 mi. Now apparently the warranty expires at 1 yr/12,000 mi, leaving the consumer with some expensive repairs every 10,000-12,000 miles.
Fun To Drive
I hvae founf this to be the best SUV I have ever owned my wife was in a major accuident in feb of this year hitting a telphone pole at 35mph I thought the jeep was a total lose. but after the dealer ship look it over it was found that it look a lot worse then it was. My next S.U.V will be another jeep this time with 4 wheel drive and a V8
The Gas Sucker
The Jeep Overland is a beautiful vehicle. However, the motor runs very rough, and the EPA mileage rating and reality are nowhere near each other. I just think the engine in this vehicle is still in the stone age.
Problems
I'm having problems with my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The power windows don't work and the interior lights wont go off when headlights are on. It doesn't even seem like my 4 wheel drive even works. My mirrors wont work, everything is powered. I had a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Now that was a beautiful suv! Until a tree falls on it and totals it.I love Jeep but not sure about these problems. It may even be the dealships fault. Who knows.....
WJ Grand Cherokee A COLORADO Review
ON THE ROAD: feels heavy; steers slowly; ample body roll. The WJ is heavy and the 4.0 inline 6 cylinder engine is under powered in the altitude of the rocky mountains. Driver visibility is poor. The position of the roof, windshield wipers makes it hard to see the front of the hood - such as when parking. The sun visor flips down so low that you cannot functionally see where you are going. After driving this as my commuter vehicle, all in all I wish I had bought a Subaru Forester. The Forester has as much if not more power and has nearly double the gas mileage. Oh yeah, the Jeep WJ gets 15 mpg, and it is tuned well. CONSIDER SOMETHING ELSE OFF ROAD: not enough ground clearance to go anyplace that requires 4x4 low range. Basically the WJ is an all wheel drive car. CONSIDER SOMETHING ELSE
decent
I have an 04 Jeep standard 6 cyl. When I first got the car I was siked! But for some reason I've noticed that the breaks squeal, and when you turn or go over a bump, it almost everytime feels like you'll do a rollover going around a bin at 40 mph, which isn't good. :(
Junk
No good have to repair more then driven on the road

Nothing but problems
I bought my jeep with 60,000 miles I loved it but within a month it was constant in the shop all the time electrical issues, leaks, timing belt, ignition switch. The list goes on anon. Right now I’m at 130,000 miles in the engine just went I’ve put more money into it than what I paid for it.

You can not beet the jeep
It drives well on and off road, I have driven from NC to FL and it did not require as much work as a big van.
2004 Spec Ed. 4X4
This is my 2nd Grand Cherokee Spec Ed. I traded it in with 13k miles (trade in was $20k even if I didn't want to purchase a new one - I only paid $25k for it) After driving my new 4X4 Spec. Ed, I love it! I've had a few off road drives thus far without problems. The quadra trak II works well.
Wisconsin experience
Headrests too low; access to windshield wiper/washer controls and access to headlight controls a little constricted and difficult to see selections through the steering wheel. Comfortable front seating, handles well,is sufficiently responsive, interior appointments well done. Information center upgrades over previous years a nice feature.
Enjoyable
I have put 2500 miles on a new GC and no problems, I traded a '99 GJC Laredo for this one. The '04 has the H.O. V8 it is great for passing. I like the 6500# tow rating. The GC is just the right size for what I use a vechile for. I'm using high test gas in this one even thought the factory says engine will run okay with 87 octane. My is inferno red.
One problem after another...
The 1st wk, with 132 miles on our new Jeep, a large rattling noise turned out to be a "part that was put in backwards." At 2000 miles, the Jeep broke down with symptoms of a failed transmission. The dealer, Buerge Jeep West LA refused me a rental car until I forced the issue and got a tiny, uncomfortable compact car. Never any apologies. When I picked up the car 3 days later, I waited 45 mins for my car 100 feet away. The leather seat and floor had black marks which weren't there before. When I mentioned this to the driver, he said "talk to the mgr." Buerge Jeep in West L.A. has horrible cust. svc! Never will we buy/recommend any Jeep product.
Absolute Fun Jeep
I have owned 2 Jeep grand cherokees, the 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited, and now the 2004 Grand Cherokee Freedom Edition, I Love them both, they are dependable, easy and fun to drive...I can't really see how they can improve on perfection, but I guess we will find out when the 2005 models come out!!!
Great Jeep
I owned a 2002 before this 2004 and both Jeeps have been perfect so far. I like the ride, comfort, and style of the Grand Cherokee. I can't think of a thing that I don't like.
2004 Jeep Overland
Good looking, handling, pleasure to drive.
Completely Satisfied With Purchase!
I had been looking for a new car to replace my 97 Blazer for about 3 months and couldn't find the right mix of amenities I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. On a friends advice I went to the Jeep dealer to check out the Grand Cherokee. I had seen them on the road but didn't like the grey side body moldings on Laredo and didn't want to spend up the extra for a Limited just for exterior aesthetics and get a bunch of options I didn't want. The 2004 SE was everyth I was looking for in a new car. Great ca...looking foward to the first snow storm this winter...what more can I say!
Great SUV!
This is my first Jeep and I absolutely love it! Got it with the 4.7 V8 with Quadra Trac. If you're like me and you want your SUV to have real capabilities (towing, off road/inclement weather, cargo etc.) the Grand Cherokee is the way to go. Yes, it rides like a truck, but that's because it's a truck, with truck like capability! Looks great at deer camp as well as cruising downtown. My wife has a Trailblazer, which has about 40 more HP, but it's a dog compared to the Grand Cherokee. Few minor issues since purchase, including worn out sway bar bushings, and a popping sound from steering whee -l- both replaced under warranty with redesigned parts. Fuel economy is decent. Again, it's a truck, it's not supposed to get 30 mpg.
Runs GREAT - Gas HOG!
Beautiful truck! Fun to drive - but terrible on gas mileage. CD player needs to be moved to the front of the vehicle. Not a good place in the back. Also - bad quality CD player...makes CDs skip often - when no scratches on cds.
ALMOST SATISFIED
First year I had the car about 6 times back to the dealer. Changed shocks, alternator, battery, squeeky window, rear gear with a loud bang changed parts still scares my kids sometimes
First-time Jeep Owner
with $3K off the MSRP and another $3.5K off from incentives and a decent rate of 5.20% through Chrysler made this purchase a no-brainer - very worried I was making a mistake, but could not have been happier with the purchase - no other SUV with Leather, sun-roof, and inline 6 could be gotten for this price. And I got the 5/60K warranty for an extra $800.00
Great All Around
This Jeep drives smooth like a car, yet still has unsurpassed off road capability. And the HO motor makes it quick! Nice moderate size vehicle; not hard to fit in to parking places.
My First Jeep
I considered other SUVS before buying the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. And I was very close to buying the 2004 Ford Explorer. I had owned a 2000 Ford Expedition with which I was extremely pleased. So, I was assuming the Explorer would give me the same satsifaction. But a souring experience with the Ford dealer brought me to the Jeep dealership. I'm extremely happy that i did. The vehicle, outside of its rough on-road ride, is just marvelous. I've been geting about 18 MPG so far. It has all the features I wanted in a vehicle. I especially like the small cargo carrying capability and the flexibility of having a nice car to take to important functions.
heaven!!!
nothing but good words that car is trully a luxury suv
best looking jeep ever
My wife has all ways wanted a jeep, so last july she got the jeep she wanted. we haven't had the jeep that long, but have alway driven dodge products, and have had very little problems with them. I think that the products will become some of the best made American cars on the road.
Overland
Great vehicle, fun to drive, and is a real head turner.
Love this Jeep
I'm 63 yrs. old and this was the most pleasurable buying experience I ever had. I purchased my Overland at Jim Marsh Crysler in Las vegas. I was in and out in a little over an hour with a great deal. There was no pressure and no hassle. What a great staff. Can't say enough.
Love the 2004 Overland Jeep
I've owned two other Jeeps before and have had bad luck with them. I often wonder why I keep buying them. My 1999 Jeep gave me the most problems, bad brakes mostly. The dealership always helped and fixed the problems. I love the look of the Overland, the size and I can go almost anywhere. My friends have other SUV'S and they are so big you can hardly fit them in your garage, forget about puting on a ski rack! So far my Jeep has been great, NO PROBLEMS Hopefully I'll have this Jeep for a very long time.
My First SUV
I traded a 2000 VW Jetta in for a 2004 Grand Cherokee. While I was a bit shocked at the much bigger gas tank and gas cost, I truly love this car! It has been a pleasure driving it around town and on long trips. I like the feeling of sitting up higher than other drivers while not losing the comfort of luxury found in the Grand Cherokee.
The first and the best
The jeep grand cherokee, put short has the power to climb walls turn on dimes have four wheel drive to take you places other suvs cant run and is not imposed by the "luxery" suvs from mercedes and lexus that noone would dare take offroad, jeep is built to handle wat you can throw at it without sweating
Great Jeep #8
I love my Jeep. This is the 8th one I've owned. I did not like every one of them, but this one is the nicest one. The dealer was pleasant and easy to deal with. I love the V8, much zippier than the 6cyl.
Great Jeep
Too high a maintenance vehicle. Long warranty is BS.Need a special bank account to keep maintenance on this vehicle. Ask to see maintenance required and the cost. You make the decision. Most expensive vehicle I have ever owned.(55 years old). This the last Chrysler product I will ever buy.
