Excellent on road and off
The 2004 Overland is loaded and looks great. It is smoother and quieter than the 2001 Limited model. Set up of interior is excellent. HO engine is fast and smooth.
reliability
this is my 4th jeep. i've had a '92 cherokee, a '98 grand cherokee and a '99 grand cherokee. the performance seems very weak and my '99 has more pickup on road than this car. the interior design and features are nice however. i have had a gasket problem since i've had it and over the 5 years i've had my '99, i've had to take it in serveral times for air conditioning problems and transmission slippage
Finally got my SUV
I got the 2004 limited 4.7L 8 cyl The dealer has been great. I was alittle disappointed with the realiability of my vehicle during delivery the engine light came on and has to be taken back to dealer. They were great drove it and said all looked good. I then drove it for 3 days . As I was driving lost total power and suv wouldn't move. It felt like the transmission. This is new how can this be. I shut off engine re- started and headed to a local dealer to find out it was a bad transmission switch. I am hoping this is all or I will be very sad. I truly love my SUV.
Pleasantly Surprised
Having owned several SUV's in the past it was a surprise to find the quality and comfort the Grand offers. I spend a lot of time in my Jeep so the A/C, stero, and seats really mean a lot. The best keep secret is you can get a plain Grand with a V-8. It handles well and the fit is excellent. The Daimler crowd has done a nice job of fixing the past problems. I tried it off road and was surprised to find it handled well on dirt. Always owning 4X4's in the past it was hard to keep going, but I went safely into areas I would never try in some of the vehicles I've owned. Overall it is a good package and offers more than I expected.
Very good
I have not had any mechanical issues with this vehicle in a year and a half. My only real issue is fit/comfort. I am over 6 feet tall and athletic build and I find that on long trips (1hr or more) my right leg starts to fall asleep. I've tried many different positions and cannot find a good one. I don't feel the seat is wide enough nor does the seat go back far enough for taller drivers.
Totally awesome Overland
I absolutely love driving my Overland. I have always had Jeeps and it doesn't get much better than this. My Overland has the high output engine so you definitely get around fast! It has everything you can get for it and I would not trade it for the world, except for a newer one (2004) It's worth the price if you find one used. I wouldn't spend the $45k for a new one, but to get one used is well worth.
Best car I've owned
This has been the best car I have ever owned. It has 167,000 miles and all I've ever had to do beside changing the oil, is put a new battery in it. It has been a good car and I would recommend a jeep to anyone!
cool looks, but noisy!
I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee. it is reliable and comfortable with great looks. I only have a problem with the build quality. The Jeep is only three years old, and the brakes squeal quite a bit. Also, the seals around the second row windows are already coming loose (even though I always park in the garage) resulting in a whistling noise on the highway.
Windows
Very bad manufacturing, no Wonder people don't buy American, had to change the Windows regulators in 3 of the four doors, also the front drive train had to be change already, the control for the fan broke at around 30,000 miles, will never buy another vehicle from this company again and I will not recommend this vehicle to anybody.
My LAST car purchase
This car is INCREDIBLE! My biggest motto in life is "You get what you pay for," and that remains true with the Grand Cherokee. It's AWESOME in the snow and the ride is incredibly comfortable. I have never felt this confident on the road. The seats hug you from the very start and as soon as you get on the road you can tell that this is no regular car. Plus the 0% interest deals? What more do you need. Just drive the Grand and see for yourself. I've rode in a pathfinder and 4runner and those cars are a waste of money. Another guy put it right, Jeep could easily raise the tag by another $10,000 and it would still feel worth it.
I love my jeep
I just got my Jeep a few weeks ago and it is great. I absolutely love it! I decided to trade in a Saturn to get the Jeep because I live where we get lots of snow, so I can hardly wait to put it in 4WD. It is a great vehicle, and gas mileage isn't too bad for being an SUV.
Jeep owner since 1972
I have owned Comando, Grand wagoneer, chorokee country ( worst jeep ever to drive), grand larado(2001) and now the overland. This by far is the most refined Jeep ever. Can't wait till the come out with the new wagoneer... driving and handleing is smooth. snow driving is excellent. off road no problems.
Better than 2001 V6
I traded my 2001 Limited Grand Cherokee 2WDw/V6 engine for 2004 2WDw/V8. I love the way that it drives. I totally disagree w/ Edmonds that it rides like a truck, and so does everyone else that I talk with. The V8 with 5 speed transmission is much more fun to drive and very smooth; IMO.The styling is great inside and out.I did have a number of problems with my 2001, but I believe that Jeep has strived hard for better quality in recent years.
I love my car
I love my Jeep. This is my second one. I use it to haul lots of furniture and antiques for my business as well as a family car. It is very comfortable for us to all be in at the same time. I love it.
Best Overall SUV
I have been searching for about a month now. I've owned the 4 Runner and Highlander. I make long trips and the 4 Runner and Highlander were not that comfortable. Checked into the new 4 Runner but it lacked design both inside and out. Also checked into the Touareg, Pilot, Durango and Pacifica, but none had the Comfort and design that made me say wow! But the Grand Cherokee Limited was the perfect match for me and the wife. It had a sporty and refined exterior that really caught my eye and the interior is above all the rest as far as appointments and comfort. Best car I've ever owned. Don't look any further, just buy the Jeep!
A Durable, Do-Anything SUV
First Jeep I have owned and I have to say it's been a pleasure. Purchased pre-owned w/ 52K miles. Have had no major maintenance issues in 3+ years and going strong with just over 90K miles on it. We have 2 kids and 2 dogs and the Jeep (w/ a Thule box on roof) is a great sized vehicle that can go ANYWHERE!..and in comfort too. Great power, very comfortable, looks cool, drives great and very reliable. Love it, and will definitely consider replacing it w/ another Jeep someday.
Very happy Grand Cherokee owner
My 2004 Grand Cherokee is one of the best vehicle purchases I have ever made. Before buying it I was thinking about a Cadillac CTS and took one for a test frive. I knew I was interested in either the Caddy or the Jeep even though they were two different types of vehicles. Well I found that the Jeep had a much better ride than the Caddy CTS, believe it or not. I took the Jeep and I love everything about it.
Second Jeep
We currently traded in our 1996 Limited Cherokee and purchased the 2004 special addition. Off the lot it is a wonderful vehicle very quite and plenty of power. The in line 6 has been around for a long time and jeep has really had good success with it. Dont change a thing. Our limited had more options than the special addition but we never used all of them any way this was perfect fit for us. Leather, sunroof, CD, steering wheel controls for radio and cruise lade out Perfect!! And the jeep is the best looking vehicle in its class.
great choice
love this suv, on my three one right now.
OVERLAND- the only way to travel.
We had a 2002 4x4 6 cylinders Grand Cherokee. It was nice and my wife and I liked it. My wife was driving and the Jeep was hit from behind. There was virtually no damage to our Jeep and my wife said; I will never drive anything else. Purhased Overland one month ago and we absolutely love it. Fun,fun, fun.
Jeep, everything you want in an suv.
I just picked up my new jeep about a month ago, paid a little under 400 a month for the lease, and i must say i am extremely satisfied with this car. Though i know it will chug a lot of gas, i truly enjoy the drive of this car and the seats are the most comfortable seats i have ever had the pleasure to sit in.
Happy with the Jeep
Recently sold my Lexus GX470 to buy the GGC Limited (had to cut back due to having a 1972 Bimmer restored). I was really planning to buy an Infiniti QX4, but a Jeep on a lot caught my eye. never thought I would buy a Jeep after hearing negative stories. Very happy so far. Not the ride of the Lexus, but I actually enjoy the more rugged feel and the V8 Throaty engine. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of interior and the overall experience.
Love the Jeep
Absolutely love my Jeep. Very fun to drive and it looks great. It has turned a lot of heads. Although it calls for premium fuel I have run a mixture of low-mid-premium without any problems of knocking.
just purchased,,why did i wait so long?
i just puchased the jeep and am wondering why i waited so long? i want to sleep in this thing! great pick up, stylish, comfortable and not to bad on gas. can't wait to get it muddy. explorer was to big, trailblazer was to poorly made, so i bought my first jeep. love every mile i put on it!
Upstate NY Monster
With long winters and over 110" of snow, The Jeep JC is the monster of the midway. I traded a 2000 JC Limited, which I drove for 80K miles without incident (OK, the usual warped rotors). The Inferno Red Overland is a real head turner. Gas Mileage is poor as expected. Comofort and ride are excellent. DVD Nav system is great for trips away from home. Easily find Gas, ATM's, or food by type. Thrilled to be an Overland owner!
2004 GC Laredo 4WD
I have owned this jeep for one week and can honestly say that I have no regrets about this purchase. I shopped around and test drove them all highlander, explorer, escape, pathfinder etc. But i kept finding myself returning to Jeep dealership for another look. The incentives certainly helped $4500.00 off right off the top along with dealer discount and fair trade allowance. No other make offered the generous incentives that Jeep so it made it a no brainer, plus the vehiclr felt much more solid than the imports.
2004 Grand Cherokee Limited V8
This is my 3rd Jeep and the first Grand Cherokee. It's head and shoulders above the no longer made Cherokee in performance, comfort, quietness and fuel economy. I find it quiet and comfortable on the road; a real pleasure to drive.
Amazing!
I previously owned a 1999 Grand Cherokee Laredo (4.7L V8, Quadratrac II, the works in the Laredo basically). That vehicle was quite impressive itself. When I recently purchased my new monster, I just about cried. Even better styling than before, more power than the old stock 4.7L. My new machine comes with the Quadradrive tranny, making it a true beast. Independent left to right torque split lets me do anything!! It is true that the GC is not the best on- road SUV out there, but who cares!! To me, this Jeep is not for the weak in foot. Drive!!!
Don't believe ConsumerReports.org rating
I was very hesitant to purchase the Grand Cherokee Limited due to the low ratings it received from ConsumerReports.org, but after test driving the car and going over the specifications personally, I have no doubt that this is a great SUV. The quality is great, and the value is even greater. I do have to admit that I am a slave to great marketing, but everything a Jeep represents it can do, I now have the option of doing so.
Great Overland experience
This is my 5th Jeep and the best. Major improvements over the older Grand Cherokees are engine performance of the new HO V-8 with improved HP and torque. The transmission is a much improved 5 speed automatic. The low end torque is great. The ride is improved but still lacks smoothness. The sound level is much improved. The Navigation is much better than the older style CD based Jeep Pod. The engine idle is a little rough but acceptable. The seats are great and provide good support and comfort. The vehicle is very functional and good looking.
Do Not Buy
The SUV is not safe in windy conditions above 10 miles. When driving in the wind the car feels like it is going to tip over. The South Carolina, Sumter dealer is rude and unreliable. Services thier are done to save company time. Items that don't need to be fixed get fixed and items that need repair are done poorly so the customer has to come back. Which leads to money coming out of the customers pocket. Repairs on warranty afer 30,00 miles has ahundred dollar deductiable. I do not recommed this car to anyone. Money can be spent better on other vehicles.
Im liking it
I bought the Canadian version of the freedom, Its called the ROCKY MOUNTAIN. Ive owned a few suvs in my life and I must say, I really like the looks of this generation of jeep, Its interior is pretty boring, The seats are comfy, There is plenty of room. Its 4x4 system is immaculate. I drive it in lots of deep snow. I bought Nokian tires, they can't be beat, Its steering is incredible, The reliability is so far pretty good. No problems except a minor pin hole leak in a emissions tube. It cold starts great in bad temperatures, Lighting is good. High way and city driving is a pleasure, It feels rough and tough, I think it'll be around for awhile yet to come. I suggest this jeep to buyers.
Good Buy
Bought in 2004 brand new. Fun to drive. very reliable. The v6 is a little slower than the v8.But still good pickup.Gas mileage is the only problem. $70.00 to fill up. And the gas goes fast.Around town if you don't use the A/C as much,it will help on the gas mileage.
Great Jeep!!
I have owned Jeep's in the Past and like all their models. Read some of the other owners reviews, I did want to clear one thing up, People it is a In-line 6 cyl. not a V6, Big Difference and was the only reason why I purchased my '04 as 2004 was the last year they offered the I-6 engine. That engine has been around for years and is bullet proof. Great in Michigan snow and off road. Very comfortable, nearing 80,000 miles and just doing regular maintenance. Will Definatley buy another Jeep and Only a Jeep! My Ex-Wife bought a $80,000 Landrover, what a piece of junk, that thing has had nothing but issues. Love rolling up in the Jeep when her car is in the shop!!
Very Satisfied Customer
Prior to owning the 04 jeep grand cherokee, special edition, i owned an Infinit QX4. I will have to say that the grand cherokee feels more solid and has more interior comfort than the Qx4. althought the Qx4 had more bells and whisles...i am enjoying the grand cherokee for it's comfort, design and reliability.
Overland dream
This is my 3r jeep, I had a 94 and a 96 limited, relly good my 96 has 140k on it and still is o.k except that the ABS light is on for a year but other than that A+ The Overland was my dream to own since I never bought a new car before. That smell when you enter the car is simply DIVINE, the gudgets are wonderfull, let me just say that the first night I brought it home I slep in the garage!!!
2004 Jeep Overland
Solid frame, excellent power, good handling for a SUV. Jeep has been doing it for so long, it only gets better. Very reliable vehicle.
Jeep cannot be beaten
Buying the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was the best design I could have possibly made. This is an incredible vehicle. Capability doesn't shy from the original American Motors Jeeps. I previously owned a 1986 Cherokee and was sad to depart with what I consider the most comprehensive and powerful 4- wheel drive system ever made. But, the 2004 is quiet, very comfortable, and the 4-wheel drive is still just as capable. Not only is it a great ride but it is a gorgeous design. The front fascia has been modified from the 2003 adding circular fog lamps which are excellent in all conditions. I would recommend this car to anyone.
My Third and Last Jeep
My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is my third jeep in thirty five years. I am in my fifties and I am an avid surf fisherman. I use my 4x4 vehicles extensively on the beach in Hatteras N.C. This vehicle has done wonderfully in the sand on Cape Point. It is one of the most comfortable SUVs I've ever owned. Unfortunately build quality has been a disappointment. Window fell down inside of the door. I am also having a continual problems with the heat and air conditioning system. The dash has been removed twice for a faulty flapper door. Very poor design with plastic parts that break. Hard to explain to wife why no A/C during our last trip to Outer Banks. Chrome peeled off of two Jeep Rims.
the truck takes the cake
I love this truck i was alwsys a sports car kinda guy but this is the truck that will change the way you feel what comfort need some speed hit the O/D button and off you go...
Another Great Jeep
It is an all in one package for any man with luxury and outdoors in mind. Lots of horsepower and torque. Quadra-Trac II is exceptional and extremely responsive. I am dying to take it offroad, though.
2004 Overland one year later.
The love affair continues. Looking great, running great and the only problem so far, the voltmeter quit working. On order with the dealership. Coming from San Diego back to Arizona, there is a steep, long, descending and winding road. BMW X5 with low profile tires tried to loose me at speeds nowhere close to legal. He will for ever remember graphite Overland, and its oversized custom exhaust pipe.
I love my Jeep
This is the first Jeep I've ever owned. For years I drove a Camaro convertible and never thought I could find another vehicle that would replace the love I had for my Camaro. But I found the replacement. I now drive a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition. It's color is black crystal. I love this car! Sporty styling with a spacious luxury interior. Who could ask (or want) more??
Good Jeep
My wife and I purchased our GC LTD new and have generally enjoyed it. It has a nice smooth ride, and with the 4.7L V- 8, accelerates very quickly. My wife drives mainly in town and averages 14MPG, though on longer trips we have averaged as high as 23 MPG. We have had some recurrent problems, such as with window seals shrinking and front brake rotor problems. Jeep replaced the front brakes a couple of years ago under recall and have had no problems since, including no brake dust! We also had a heated seat burn through, but with some fighting Jeep repaired the seat. Overall, I would recommend the Grand Cherokee.
My first Jeep product
Basic SUV not to be mistaken for a soccer mom urban assault vehicle. Even with comfort features like leather, sunroof and power seats, it's still a SUV through and through. Besides the gas consumption, which gets better and better with each mile put on it. (I'm up to 17 mpg!) It's not a car; f I wanted a car I would have purchased a car. Great SUV and even greater price.
Very Good Truck for your Buck
We've had our Jeep Grand Cherokee for about 2 weeks. It has a wonderful, spacious interior for passengers and cargo, with a decent fit and finish. The truck gets good gas mileage...for an SUV. Otherwise, the gas mileage isn't as impressive. The engine is so reliable, my friend who used to work at a Ford dealer with me called it bullet- proof. I may not of had it long, but friends and family have some, and they love theirs. Better than a Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot, because the way I see it, they'd rust out before I've gotten my money's worth!! Not to mention, their reliability IS NOTHING SPECIAL, MAYBE EVEN BELOW AVERAGE.
OVERLAND IS THE BEST
THIS IS THE 6TH RED JEEP I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST 12 YEARS AND IT IS BY FAR THE BEST. THEY ARE ALL WONDERFUL BUT THE "OVERLAND" IS ABSOLUTELY A CLASSIC. I LOVE THE SUN ROOF, THE 10 CD EXCHANGER, AND THE COMFORT. I AM IN HEAVEN WHEN I DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT IS SO EASY TO DRIVE, EVEN ON SNOWY ROADS. I HAVE NO FEAR WHEN I AM DRIVING MY OVERLAND.
2004 Freedom Love those Rock Rails
This is my first Jeep and I have not had it very long but in that short time I have had it I have enjoyed it more than I have any of the other 4X4's that I have owned. I moved to the Jeep from a P/U and have not missed the P/U at all.
