I have been a mid size truck guy for many years. The mid sized trucks fits my life better than the full sized. Yes I 've owned both. The Gladiator checks off more boxes than anything else has....ever. The back seats are actually comfortable and that is rare in a mid-size. The front seating area is great. Plenty of room, easy to read gauges and display. Everything within reach and easy to use. It tows a considerable amount. Although it is a truck it still looks and feels like a Jeep. I love that! Also the roof and doors pop off and the windshield folds down. How cool is that? Does it go everywhere a Wrangle can go? No. Does it fit everything a full size truck can fit? No. You know why? Because its not a Wrangler or a FS truck. What it does, and does perfectly, is blend the two to give you the best of both worlds. UPDATE after 1 year of ownership: First lets talk about quality. This truck has NEVER had to go back to the dealer for anything other than an oil change. I am getting about 23 MPG on the highway. This truck has exceeded my expectations in every way. When I needed to buy a new stove, it fit right in. Taking out the ATVs? No problem towing at all. Family, groceries and dog all fit with no problems. It's like a Swiss Army knife. It does so many things you cant belive its only one vehicle.

More bells and whistles than a 737. If you leave the instruction manual out of the vehicle, the gas mileage increases 2 mpg. I'm a tech guy but this thing is awsome. I haven't went off road yet but I'm sure it will handle everything I throw at it. I have the Gladiator Mohave model, Solid Black inside and out. Eight Speed Transmission and I hope it will pull my bass boat with ease. Right now with 400 miles on it I will give it 5 stars. Thanks for reading.

I highly recommend the Sport S with the Max Tow Package. Torquey and smooth, the automatic 8-speed transmission is pretty nice with the trusty 3.6 L V6. It's a real hauler or puller when I need it, it's articulation is great for some off road adventures and is comfortable on the highway. Plus, the sticker on my door has a rated payload of 1465 lbs! Don't let them tell you it's not "Jeep" enough or it's not "truck" enough or it's not comfy enough. Get the customer preferred package with hard top and stick with the M+S rated all terrains for smooth and quiet daily driving. This is a perfect niche vehicle for some people!

Diesel Power, Impressed

2021 Jeep Gladiator High Altitude 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (3.6L 6cyl 8A)

Edmunds does not show the option for the diesel engine? Anyway so far 1000 miles into the ownership, no mechanical issues so far but on delivery the C pillar on the cab had a large swell in it. This really showed up since its the painted cab in Snazzberry Pearl. At first the dealer was going to have this fixed by swapping out the cab with another Gladiator but when they wanted FCA approval they were turned down. FCA said "this is a commercially acceptable flaw"? First time I have ever heard that on a new car. Anyways the dealership ended up repairing and all is good now. I test drove a few different PentaStar V6 models before driving the EcoDiesel, what a difference! The gas V6 has decent power off the line and around the city but for highway driving the diesel transforms this truck. Even pushing a strong headwind the transmission just holds 8th gear, doesn't hunt for gears like the gas motor. The diesel does have less towing rating than the gas motor. Because it is a Jeep the aftermarket selection of suspension/wheels/decals/lighting....is just awesome. The High Altitude trim has the nicest interior, does lack the off road suspension and off-road based tires that the Rubicon/Mojave have. The trade off is the best handling Gladiator in the city and highway driving, the front end grip with the 275/55/20 tires is very impressive. The overall ride has a large truck feel to it, doesn't feel light and jittery like other mid-sized trucks For some areas to improve: The front seats do not have enough travel to them, long legged folks will feel cramped when driving. The steering is vague, worse when fitted with taller tires. Aftermarket kits can improve this but should be addressed by FCA. The bed is very shallow compared to the other mid-sized trucks. The next comment will have Jeep fans a little mad but while this is a Wrangler based truck I think FCA should add a solid non-removable cab and an one-piece cab as options.

I drove it from Richmond Va. to Orlando fl. And back. The average was 30.1 mpg. Not bad. Got the deal from Dotta Chrysler Jeep in Pa. They delivered to Richmond. Va. I asked a little more for my trade and they agreed. Chris is a working sales guy. A regular guy. No hype. See Chris. It is a sport s diesel. Not a choice on Edmonds.

I got a 2021 Willys edition Gladiator and I love it. It has several features of the more expensive models ( shocks, rock rails, wheels, and more) . It IS a Jeep AND a truck so it can be a stiff ride on back roads, but it is quite comfortable on the main roads.

Prior to purchase of our new '22 Gladiator Willy's Sport, we were previously looking at a new JL '22 Wrangler 2 door Willy's to replace a '14 Jeep Patriot (2.4l, 4WD, 5spd manual). We had thought we had what we wanted sorted out, particularly being a Manual Transmission and were planning to special order the Wrangler, but we wanted to test drive a manual beforehand. A local dealer had only one manual transmission truck on the lot, a '22 Gladiator Mojave (3.6l, 4.10 rear, 6spd manual). That's where we learned the master cylinder for the manual trans used in the JT & JL's has horrible feel. It's easy enough, but lacks feel for the engagement point. Also, the manual trans gearing is way too tall for the final gear ratios selected. If it had 4.88's stock, it would be a lot better with the manual, literally too tall to use 6th on the highway unless you're breaking the speed limit. We did come away with a great appreciation for Gladiator itself since it could actually replace two vehicles instead of one and decided to further investigate and test drive an 8spd Automatic one. It's a completely different truck with the well matched gear ratios of the 8spd Automatic transmission, even with the base diff 3.73 final gearing. We tested several others, including a base Sport model (3.73 rear) with a manual 6spd again just to confirm the clutch feel was that way across the board and a Sport S with the Max Tow package (4.10 gearing & 8spd automatic trans, stiffer suspension/firmer truck like ride, etc) to narrow down the drivetrain options. We decided on the base gas 3.6l Willy's Sport, with the 8spd automatic and factory tow hitch as the only options. With these trucks, there's only 4wd, even stock you get dual Dana 44 rears. The Willys package adds a Limited Slip Rear differential, aluminum rims w/ mud terrain tires, rock rails and appearance features like a blacked out grill & bumper, tinted windows, painted fenders and retro decals. What makes these specials compared to their other mid-size counterparts isn't entirely about what you get with them, but what they don't come with. Manual windows, manual locks, manual seats, manual transfer case (less to fail), basic screen display, actual manual knob controls instead of the screen, basic & functional plastic interior, minimal Nanny Devices, etc. Simple & durable over the long haul. As for what comes standard, Dana 44 solid front & rear axles, 3.73 gearing, A/C, Cruise Control (an option on almost all other mid size trucks), 4/7 way trailer wiring, floor drains, lockable interior storage, LED bed lights, trans/fuel tank skids, a convertible top, 8 speaker stereo std, brake-lock diffs, etc. Let's not forget that it's the most capable 4WD mid-size truck, even the base models work well off-road and the aftermarket support if you want to modify is endless. This isn't the truck for everyone. Those that basically want a car with a truck bed or expect that level of luxury & quietness may not like the simplicity of the Gladiator. The Gladiator is like a New-Old truck, just refined. It's narrow enough (just like the JL) and has the right running gear to get into some serious off-roading, and the electronics don't get in the way while doing so unlike other brands. It rides superbly well for a solid front axle vehicle. The windshields are prone to cracking from stones due to the angle. There is some extra noise, especially with a soft top, but it's much less then you'd expect short of when it's raining. The exterior door hinges are prone to chipping paint sheerly because of the fact that they are designed for easy removal and stick out. The 3.6l V6 is a little chattery, but it's normal and runs well. Oil changes are a breeze with the top mount oil filter. Also, the heater in these is exceptionally good! Heats up very quickly and will literally fry your fingers like a hot dog. The standard 8 speaker stereo sounds fantastic. The Android Auto and screen are easy to use. The back-up camera is very clear. The soft top is very easy to drop on a nice day and makes clear warm night drives extra special. The hard top panels are easy to remove too. The fuel economy is exceptional for a 4,700 pound truck with a non-direct injected gas engine. I'm getting 18mpg on stock running gear in the city & 22 unladden on the highway. It tows my 3,000.lb loaded trailer without breaking a sweat (the 8spd auto/gas V6/3.73 gearing max tow capacity at 6,000.lbs). The ZF 8spd auto is one of the best modern "too many gears" automatics. It's always in the correct gear for the situation, doesn't "hunt" around or automatically upshift to 8th when you're barely spinning enough RPM's for 5th. It'll automatically downshift to use engine braking on declines as well. Shifting is smooth. The manual transfer case shifts better as it gets used (breaks in/meshes between range shifting) and works as it should. Fit & finish is better than my decades worth of GM's (which I still own, LOL). Seats are firm but comfortable. The rears are easy to fold-up or remove. Also should note, they are built at the original Willy's-Overland plant in Toledo, OH where all the Wranglers and the original Gladiator trucks were built. After 5,000 miles, and more than a few of those earning a few Jeep Honor Trail badges and clambering off-road, it's holding up exceptionally well. No trips back to the dealer for warranty issues yet either. It's everything you need and nothing you don't.

Picked up my nice shiny 2021 Gladiator Rubicon 3 weeks ago. Life was great until.....i stopped at the store. Came out of store pushed my nice keyless start button and bam.....christmas lights all over dash. The one warning that scared me was.." Turn off vehicle now or vehicle with shut down" Glad i was sitting in parking lot and not cruising down highway...Well after a 1000 mile new vehicle got towed away...and so far two days, the dealership service manager has said...factory engineers are working on the problem. Im about a week away from First Huge Payment....gonna be the hardest car loan payment i ever made, especially since they have me driving around in a garbage low end Cherokee... My first Jeep and possibly my last.....

Warning, there is a serious issue with an axle seal leak in many 2021 Gladiators. Mine took a month to fix, also my gladiator is constantly steering to the right and I get 14MPG only. Its been a nightmare and I cannot recommend this car.

This is a fun top down pick-up the only draw back is that if you need a real tow vehicle this is not it, I bought all the tow options in the Sport the best rated tow Jeep, It had a very hard time pulling my pontoon boat at about 2500 pounds, Other than that very comfortable capable Jeep.

I bought it in May 2021, drove it for 1 week, it developed a check engine light. Took it back to Renfrew Chrysler in Calgary, Alberta Canada. They diagnosed a melted wiring harness, that took 7 weeks to get back. I received it back on August 6, 2021 at 4pm, hauled a Trailer 2 weekends in a row, no problem at all. 60 km into 3rd Travel Trailer trip, just surpassed 7777km it caught on Fire and melted to the highway. As of February 25, 2024 there is no resolution. The vehicle is still melted and it took 3 months for the insurance company to write it off

Rear diff went out with 16,000 miles on it. Has been at the dealership for 2 months! No eta on the part and keep getting the run around! No one is helping, jeep wave customer care is a joke! They can't find where the part is at in transit, every week same story, it was supposed to be here yesterday. Traded in my Toyota 4runner for it, that was a HUGE mistake. I am a first time jeep owner and very disappointed in the brand and customer service! I would think twice before buying a jeep.

I’ve owned several types of jeeps, cherokee sport, rubicon, 4DR wrangler and now a new truck (my 1st new one). They’ve all held their value, easy to repair (though) haven’t needed many. It does ride like a jeep but I think its comfortable, especially the back seat. The best thing is the versatility of the truck. I have 2 big newfoundland dogs and thought I’d have to keep the Rubicon but I was able to remove a piece, lift the seats up and it opens into a big area. It’s also easier getting them in and out. I call it my LGO TRK, since I can take it apart piece by piece. Another great feature, a tool kit and a place for your bolts, when removing tops & doors. Uconnect is awesome. Good on dirt roads. I haven’t had it in snow yet but all my others were awesome. I love my jeep/truck/car.

Great truck! This is the ultimate do anything vehicle for both on, and off road. The 2021 version seems to be smoother and handles much better over the previous one. I can haul a 7,650 pound trailer behind me if I needed to with the max tow package. There’s no wandering on the front end like the first one I had. I also am getting better MPG’s with the new gladiator, averaging 22.6 mpg compared to the 18.9 on the (2020 model). If you like pick up trucks, and Jeep’s this is the ride for you.

One of the national publications thinks that if it's not a Honda you shouldn't buy it I didn't buy this Jeep to be a luxury SUV. It was going to be noisy and rough riding. The Jeep has many luxury features but i can take it almost anywhere. The stay open doors are a great new feature.U-connect 4 is way much better than my old U-connect. Another great feature is future resale.Contrary to some auto publications the resale on my previous Jeeps was amazing. This Gladiator is my 8th Jeep and my 1st new one.

I am really impressed with my Gladiator. I live in the mountains of Colorado and I do like to take my vehicles off-road. The Gladiator is a champ off-road. I got the three piece hard top which is great. Its a convertible truck!! The HVAC works great in both the winter and summer. The heated seats get really hot and the heated wheel is toasty in the winter. The ride is not bad in city traffic and the Alpine stereo sounds great. The adaptive cruise control works well. The wind and tire noise is bad at highway speeds and I can barely crack 15MPG but this is a real truck AND a Jeep so I'm ok with that.

Awesome vehicle ! I would've like power adjustable seats, but the fact they're heated, overshadows the lack of power adjustment. Also, Jeep installs both the 4 and 7 pin trailer wiring harness plugs, but doesn't provide a hitch receiver . I did purchase the MOPAR/Jeep accessory receiver, for just under $300. The vehicle rides fantastic! I love the Alpine stereo. After Winter is over, and it starts warming up, I can't wait to remove the top(s) !!

Yes, I paid for it, but guess what, I'm 71, I drive the crap out of it. It doesn't take no for an answer. I live in the Atchafalaya Basin, in the only community within the Atchafalaya River flood basin levee. This vehicle puts my boat where I need it, my camper where it doesn't like it. I've overtowed with it, but don't tell anybody. I don't know if it will outlive me, but I'll give it a chance.

If you are looking for a 4WD truck with a comfortable ride then consider the Jeep Gladiator Mojave. I don't do rock crawling, but I feel that I could in this thing. I am mostly a Mall Crawler that likes a good ridding truck and this fits the bill. Coming from a TRD Sport I was amazed at the spacious Gladiator had to offer and the Mojave had a better ride. If you are looking for a Mid size 4WD truck, give the Gladiator a test drive, its worth it!

I owned a 2008 Jeep grand cherokee, before trading it on a full size Nissan Titan in May of 2020. I thought I needed a full size truck, but quickly discovered how difficult large trucks can be when you don’t have a lot of space to work with. Due to used vehicle values being out of this world I was actually able to afford a Jeep Gladiator Willys edition, brand new. I am astounded. First: it’s a jeep. Having owned two Jeeps in the past, it’s an odd thing but it’s sort of like being greeted by an old friend. Second: in terms of truck utility it actually offers a ton. I got the tow package so it’s rated at 6000lbs. More than enough for my boat or a moderately sized camper. The bed is 5’ in length, compared to the Titan which was 5’6” and the sides are WAY lower and cargo toward the front is actually within reach. The backseat has enough room for me to sit comfortably, I’m 6’2” tall and that’s with the drivers seat all the way back, and the backrest fairly upright. The turning radius is great, easy to turn around, it’s easy and fun to drive. The alpine stereo really thumps good and the absolute most practical thing they did was put the car seat anchors where you can actually find them! We only have a couple hundred miles on the new family truckster but it is quite a ride.

2021 Gladiator steering issues

Bob F., 09/20/2021

Bought a '21 Gladiator. Steering was terrible, jeep wandered all over the road. I can't believe I wasn't pulled over for suspected drunk driving. I tried all different tire pressures. Dealer replaced the steering box and damper which didn't do anything. I loved everything about the jeep but after 3 months I sold it as the steering was so bad it was not any fun to drive, it was actually fatiguing to drive. Jeep has to fix this steering problem. Unfortunately I won't be buying another jeep for a long time to come.

I really enjoy this vehicle, the only downfall for me is storage. I have always owned large Chevy trucks with room for storage. This is definitely a downsized vehicle. I enjoy how it rides and have made some minor add ons so far. Coming form a V8 to a 6 is another thing to get used to. But so far I don’t have any complaints. I would definitely buy again.

First day after delivery there was a noticeable rattle coming from inside the dash when accelerating over 40 mph... like a loose screw vibrating on a tin plate. Dealer wants 3 days to investigate with no loaner vehicle. Second day after delivery a rock hit the door hinge while driving 25 mph and took two eraser size chunks of paint off - down to the bare metal. Crazy, I had a Ram before and backed into a mailbox once without a scratch. When inspecting the paint loss I noticed that all of the hinges have crazing lines already - there has to be a factory defect in paint adherence on this area of the vehicle. Starting to doubt whether I should even install the running boards I purchased, I mean after a week the gladiator is showing worse signs than my last truck I drove for 3 years... Sadiator...

I have a ‘21 Mojave edition with Manual transmission. I love it! Great ride, fun to drive, and super practical. Having had Wranglers in the past, the Gladiator is slightly less sporty but significantly more practical for me with the bed. The interior is great, exterior design is awesome IMO - reminds me of an old Powerwagon and doesn’t look like all of the other generic trucks. Fuel economy is what I expect for a midsize truck - I average around 17-18mpg. The only negative for me is the gearing particularly with the manual transmission. Gearing is way to tall. 6th gear is barely useable at all(only useable at 80mph or more). Shorter gearing in the trans or 4.56 gears would be a big improvement in performance, city mpg and probably even help highway mpg(prevent lugging in 6th gear) Overall, this is an awesome vehicle and I highly recommend it.

So far so good. had to put on step ups so we could enter without difficulty. It has been raining or cold to take off doors and top. Cant wait to get to FLA or up here in Toledo this next summer to take them off. no problem getting into 4 wheel drive. Lots of buttons to play with a lot of however, do not work when truck is in motion.

AEV edition “JT370”

D Fowler , 07/17/2021

7 of 9 people found this review helpful

Is it worth 72k? Only time will tell, the AEV package looks and drives great, Mpg with the 37’s is 19.4 combined and that’s not on flat ground, with several trips to the mountains, elevations to 14k ft. The audio unit lacks enough volume at hwy speeds with either windows down or top off. The 4.56 gears are excellent and it moves the 37’s with ease both on and off road, is the Gladiator rubicon/AEV perfect no, the seats could be more comfortable but I can’t help but to love the beast, next week I’ll add a tonneau cover to further enhance mpg or too keep my camping gear dry..I’ll be happy with either. Oh I found using 89-91 octane increased mpg from 17 to 19.4 is it worth the extra $, or about 5$ per tank I guess lol. So my only concern is whether the gladiator is reliable long term, and will it retain value..it’s early but here’s hoping

Would be a good truck but it drives harder with more effort than the competitor pickups. Takes effort to drive in high winds. Off road was good but once I got it in 4 low it took about 4 tries to get it back to 2WD. Lever wouldn't move.

Owned 2 Months. This is truly the most fun vehicle out there. So much utility. It should be called the “Transformer”. It quickly transforms from a beach buggy, ATV, pick-up truck, highway or around-town VW Thing-like vehicle, open air transporter, convertible, or to a fine dining transport. Especially if you’re an outdoor person. It handles backroads, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, dunes cruising, towing many different things, and on and on, and on. Limitless. During the last 2 months, I’ve had no problems and loads of fun. I chose a boatload of options, but after delivery added side steps, sill protectors, LED headlights; bed mat (over molar sprayed bed liner), and a few trailer hitch accessories.

This is a really cool vehicle with any platform engine offered. The turbo diesel however has a ton of power and will get you rolling in a quick manner. Love this thing! Update after 5000 miles this truck continues to be a versatile, powerful and economic truck. Living in the Appalachian Mountains doesn’t typically allow for good fuel economy, yet refilled an empty tank that averaged 17 mikes per gallon on Sunday.

People ask, "How do you like your Gladiator?" My reply, "lf l was single, and it was a woman, I'd marry it!" I'm 66 years old and this is without question the favorite vehicle l have ever owned. Mine is a High Altitude in brilliant white with black leather and all the extras. It is so cool looking l even had a guy follow me into an office to tell me, "That is the most beautiful Jeep l have ever seen!" Every where l go l get compliments about it. It is smooth riding, surprisingly quiet and a joy to drive! Plus, the added utility of the bed gives it an entire level of usefulness that my Wranglers didn't offer. And the ability to remove the roof panels or entire top and doors makes the Gladiator truly a one of a kind. It is as versatile as my grandsons Transformer toys! No other truck even comes close! So if you want to stand out from the crowd and like to smile, the Gladiator is your ticket. Because it will definitely put a smile on your face! I have owned Jeeps for 15 years and have had a grand total of 1 service repair other than scheduled maintenance. A water pump replaced under warranty on a Wrangler years ago. They have been trouble free! I have owned this Gladiator for over a year and l like it more every time l drive it.

Unfortunately Dealers are asking more than a premium for these vehicle. They’re priced for the person(s) with disposable wealth. This is to bad because this keep could be the vehicle for the common man,

Enjoying my Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel (not 3.6L)

Mike, 01/08/2022

I traded in my 2014 Ram 1500 Limited EcoDiesel after nearly four years of ownership, for a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel, and I have been extremely pleased with my decision. The Ram Limited was very comfortable and fully loaded, and with the 2nd generation EcoDiesel I was able to get nearly 30 mpg in highway driving. It was a great truck but much bigger than my needs and not well suited to more adventurous driving...it was simply too nice. I sold my Ram 1500 to the Fort Wayne CarMax, where I received a very good price, then took an Uber to Terry Hendrick CDJR in Archbold, Ohio, where I picked up my slightly used 2021 Gladiator with 11,500 miles. Shout out to Terry Hendrick's and Andy for an attractive price and a trouble-free buying experience. I then proceeded to put nearly 3,500 miles on my new ride, visiting family in the Midwest before returning to the PNW, driving the Gladiator through very windy, cold wintery weather, and the Gladiator performed like a champ. Driving between 70 and 75 mph, I average almost 25 mpg, all while enjoying the updated UConnect system and the Gladiator's heated seats and steering wheel. The interior is a little noisier than the Ram but I was expecting that and the increased wind noise was very tolerable, and the Alpine sound system sounded better in the Gladiator than the same system in my 2014 Ram 1500 Limited. As a mid-size truck, there is significantly less interior and exterior room compared to the Ram 1500, and it's the interior space that I will probably miss. However, compared to the Ram, which drove wonderfully, the Gladiator Rubicon is much more maneuverable, almost sports-car like in comparison, which I prefer. My Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel is nearly full optioned, missing only the auxiliary switch buttons. To date, I've had no issues at all with any of the truck's features, and I look forward to driving it at every opportunity. I've even just taken random drives because it is so enjoyable. I heartedly recommend anyone considering the Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel for it's out-of-the-box capabilities and both modern and old school tech. After owing a 2nd generation EcoDiesel, owners must understand that maintenance costs will be higher than gas engine costs, but I feel the additional expense well worth the capabilities that the diesel engine provides.

Purchased my Labor Day weekend 2022. It came outfitted with 20in rims, 35 inch tires and fox shocks. I was driving by and the Gobi color made me circle the block. I was in 2020 Volvo XC60 R design that I traded in and have not missed. The Gladiator now has 30k miles in almost two years. Oil changes is all I have been to the dealer for. It isn’t for everyone, but I love the simplicity of the drive train, the lack of nanny computer driving assist. It reminds me of classic pick ups with modern conveniences. It has become my favorite vehicle-ever. Any day is a better day with the freedom panels off. Gladiator
