2019 Jeep Compass Is A Lemon
This was my letter to all parties involved: Hello. After my nightmare yesterday, I do not want this vehicle. There has to be something that can be done. The service department is trying to wiggle out of this by claiming that the vehicle is was out of gas and that is the main problem. However, that was only a secondary issue caused by the first (electrical, software, etc.) Yesterday, I was driving. I smelled a burnt odor and the vehicle had never driven correctly since the first time that it was in the shop (shaking, weird at takeoff, etc.). After stopping at a light, I tried to take off when it abruptly stopped and put on the parking brake. (These are also all of the things that happened the first time as well and it almost stopped the second time; these are the details of the third time.) The screen stated to remove the parking brake to drive. I did that, but it did not work. I tried to turn the car off, but it would not respond. It stayed on, burning fuel, but would not doing anything else and everything was locked. Random lights would flash, but nothing would respond at all. (Of course, after a three hour nightmare, it would be out of fuel!) After a long time of this, the vehicle finally let me turn it off. However, it then would not turn on. Everything stayed dark and it was almost as if the battery was dead. This happened for a long time. Finally, it would turn on, but then completely freeze and not turn off again. Meanwhile, I was trapped in the car for three hours (couldn't get out in a high crime area and was also afraid of the doors locking while I was outside because of the strange electrical issues). Police were passing and threatening to impound the car. I seriously thought that I was going to die yesterday. Yet, your service department still wants me to take an "iffy" car because it HAPPENED to start today after they put more gas in it. (Again, it had gas when the issues started - but the car is very tentative... it starts and stops when it wants to do so and it doesn't necessarily have a reason). Please fix this situation. If yesterday would have been a winter day, I would be dead. I would have frozen to death. If the car stopped on a train track, I would be dead. If the car stopped while I was driving 70 MPH, I would be dead. I am fortunate that God kept me alive for those three hours, but He also is giving me the wisdom that I should NEVER enter that car again. That car is a death trap. Again, please fix this situation. Do not allow your workers to use minor things such as gas and oil in order to kill their customers. http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2018/jeep/compass/engine/problem.aspx Read this link. Avoid this vehicle
I rented a 2019 Compass for about 9 days and drove it 3000 miles in combined city, suburban and highway driving. While it is comfortable and handles well, there are serious issues. The engine is pitifully weak for a vehicle this size and is a safety hazard on the highway if you need quick acceleration to avoid a crash or just to merge with traffic. Jeep should consider adding a turbo to this 4 cylinder engine to make it at least reasonable. A number of times the vehicle refused to start and I had to call roadside assistance to get it to turn over. Apparently the electronics have a fault that lights up the dash but fails to respond to the push button starter. This happened twice in the space of a few days. Supposedly Jeep has a software update, but there are many complaints onliine where owners have had the update applied and still end up getting towed because the vehicle won't start. I figured out that you must lock the vehicle every time you get out - even to pump gas or it may fail to start. Then there is the REALLY annoying engine shutoff every time you come to a stop. I ended up shifting into Neutral at every stop so the engine would keep running. Overall performance is not smooth, with bad shifting intervals on the transmission and terrible acceleration. Not an impressive vehicle at all and the Compass is outclassed by just about any of the foreign manufactured SUV's of the same size.

Great Jeep
The compass is well-appointed, comfortable, and drives smoothly. The only downside is it has a 13-gallon tank. If you drive much, be prepared to gas up frequently.
