2 years ago I bought this car for my wife for her birthday because she has always wanted a Jag. This is just a beautiful vehicle. It does have it's quirks but they are far overridden by the cars elegance and luxury. All her local driving is done in her Maxima and long journeys are taken in the Jag. This is a touring car and is designed to be driven on the highway for long distances at cruising speeds(within the law, of course). Jags have had a horrible history with quality control that I believe Ford ironed out when they took over. Neither of us has ever quite driven a vehicle quality and luxury which is why it is probably the best car we ever owned.

Strengths: Fun to drive and very fast on a dry road, zips around trucks like a breeze. Looks great, attracts, "Nice car, man!" comments several times a week. No mechanical problems, very nice sound system. And it actually does achieve 21 mpg on the highway. Weakness: does not go in the snow, at all, not even a little bit. Rear wheels just spin even with a light dusting. Not great in the rain, either.

Overall very pleased and impressed with this vehicle. As a first-time Jag owner, had not considered a Jag in the past, had previously owned MB, Audi. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this vehicle. So far, my ownership experience has been great and has exceeded my expectations!

I purchased my '03 Vanden Plas late last year and it's been wonderful. I was lucky to get it because my dealer informed me that production of the Vanden Plas has stopped for a while. I was sad to hear it because I think that the only car that can out shine the beauty of a Vanden Plas is maybe a Rolls Royce. What I couldn't believe is that these Jags are still hand assembled in England (woodwork and all.) I can't tell you how many comments I've received on my car. It's been wonderful. Classic British luxury at it's best.
Elegant, stylish and sexy.

Only those who really know cars would buy a Jaguar XJ8. These are well thought out designs and every component seems to be carefully made...but not the cup holders. The next time you look at cars have a careful look at a Jaguar instead. You'll notice certain details like the four square jack stands that are in just in the right place, the hood ornament that tells you exactly where the front end is, the silky feel of the steering and controls, the exuberance of the V8, the solidness of its chassis and structure and the excellent lighting. The big cat's proportions are correct in the 2003 version. Put it up on a lift and you'll notice right away that it's built like a brick. This Jaguar is the best car I've ever owned. And, I'm still a pleased owner after three years of everyday driving.

I purchased my XJ8 used with about 34,000 miles on it, and have been extremely pleased with the XJ8 all around, performance, ride and drive, comfort and convenience, and have had no major problems with this vehicle whats so ever it still feels as solid and secure as the 1st day I drove it and was sold buy the way it drove period, and now understand what all these owners have in common and why the reviews are always so good on the 2003 XJ8.

I bought this car last summer (2011) on a whim. It had 140K miles but only cost 5K. WOW! FUN to drive. Even with 140K miles is still tight, dependable, runs great & drives oh so smooth. I am looking forward to upgrading to a 2008 or 2009 in the next year.

I paid $41k for a 2003 XJR in 3/2004 and figured it was a great price to sample a car I have always liked from afar. At $41k I'm super, super pleased but don't know if I would have been so pleased if I had to pay close to the sticker price. The car looks great and drives great. But you get more bells and whistles with the Japanese and German luxury cars, so if that's important, I might look elsewhere. However, there's no beating the Jaguar styling inside and out. This car has big-time personality -- all that wood and leather and its feline exterior make for a scrumptious package.

Be thankful you've found one of these superlative automobiles. My Jag has over 100000 miles but was very carefully maintained and always garaged. It is like new beautiful. Other than brakes and new serpentine belt, my only action to make the car perfect was to replace the deteriorated rubber gaskets around the door handles. The car drives smooth as glass and is eerily quiet inside and out side. I like the little luxury touches like the pull down trays in the back seat. The 15 year old car does not have all the whiz bang electronics like a new Jaguar, but I like it better for that. The back-up proximity buzzers are neat.

I bought this car in 2007 (5 years old, 45k miles). I paid $18k used, less than my friend paid for her new VW beetle and i'm driving a gorgeous luxury car. The only visible flaws were cracked walnut paneling and I had the overhead cloth replaced. Then I have proceeded to drive the heck out of this car. I've commuted with it 500 miles/week for the last 7 years, hauled my scuba gear in the trunk (in a plastic bin), and many road trips with or without camping gear. One reason I bought the XJ8L is the big back seat; at that time anticipating large passengers. As I started doing Triathlons I discovered just taking off the front wheel I can fit my entire racing bike in the back seat easily, quickly, and with little impact to the vehicle. I've had two consistent problems- with coolant sensor light and fuel cap light- that after several fixes I have just decided to ignore. The only problem I ever had driving is when I took an 1500 mile RT drive to Key west; since the car was built for a tall british man (and I'm an average American girl) after 600 miles my back hurt cause I didn't fit right. It's now 13 years old and near retirement at 220k miles; since the right rear wheel bearing gave out, will likely replace vs. repair.

Bought the car for my wife, but love to drive it when she'll let me. Picked it up in DC and drove it 200 miles on the interstate to get home and was impressed with the comfort, stability, power and control. Two days later, we drove it to Michigan from Virginia Beach. Again, superb is the word. We've owned and driven a lot of high end cars, but the XJs are in a class of their own. The styling is refined from decades of improving on a base design from the late sixties. The engineering has too. The base 300 HP 4.0 L V8 coupled with the 4 speed automatic is powerful but smooth, sophisticated but dependable and pretty efficient (20 mpg), considering that it's pushing a 2.5 ton car.

I recently purchased a Red Burgandy, 2003 super V8 at a very good price. I knew I would be replacing the four CAT shocks at approximately $1500.00 for the set of four. The front sway bar links, $60.00 This is the cost for the parts as I perform my own labor. I also just replaced the front brakes, changed the supercharger oil, replaced a broken headlamp and a missing center wheel cap. I love driving this car. It is beautiful, classy, fast and rides like a dream. There are no electronic issues, the interior wood trim is superb. I'm very pleased with it and very glad I found the car for sale. I'm not one for attention, but every now and then, someone tells me how good the car looks, and yeah, it does look good. Update: I replaced the front door speakers with Focal RCX-145 speakers. Taking the wood trim off was stressful as I was afraid I'd crack them. Sounds much better. I had an issue with getting it out of park. I turned out to be the brake pedal sensor. I removed it, sprayed it with contact cleaner and the world is good now. Still love the car.

WE SHOPPED MERCEDES, BMW, LEXUS AND JAGUAR. BOUGHT A SILVER XJR AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY. THE INTERIOR IS BEAUTIFUL, WE ESPECIALLY LIKE THE WOOD, THE ENGINE IS VERY QUIET, AND THE RIDE IS SMOOTHER THAN THE OTHER THREE CARS WE COMPARED. HAVE NOT HAD THE CAR BACK TO DEALER FOR ANY PROBLEMS YET. WE REALLY LOVE THIS CAR AND ARE VERY HAPPY WE PURCHASED IT.

It is beuatiful, fast, and sexy. When I am cruising down the freeway (once at 260km/h), just smoothly gliding along, listening to that cat purr, I feel like a billion bucks. It is fairly practical, maybe not such as an S- class, but still not bad. But the pure thought of knowing that I am in such respected, hand-built piece of art that rides on four wheels, it does not even compare to a Benz. I can drive my Jag everyday, take it on weekend vacations, and look absolutely 'pimp' compared to everyone else on the road. FABULOUS CAR! PS Buy one, its worth it!

This is my second Jag and if it is anything like the first I'll be estactic. I had a XJ8 before, now I went for the Vanden Plas...wow, what a difference in ride and confort. The last one was excellent, this one is subperb. It's a darn shame they're going to change the vehicle next year, as this is one classic style vehicle that doesn't get old.

Always loved Jaguar's but never owned one. Being a car lover I found one, a 2003 model with the old classic styling - an X308 with high miles but reasonably well looked after. The vehicle is definitely old school and can manifest some quirky "Jag" symptoms mostly electrical. The AJV8 is a super engine with the exception of earlier models which had timing tensioner issues. Once replaced or fixed however this becomes an excellent power plant built by Jaguar not Ford. This V8 has been used in the Lincoln LS and some other Ford V8 examples. Power is smooth with 290 HP and the German transmission is super smooth if serviced properly. Ride is quiet and balanced and for a heavy car (steel body) it handles remarkably well and goes where it's pointed. The Vanden Plas has huge space in the rear and the fold down wood trays though odd add a touch of elegance & class. The front seating area is rather cramped as is usual with Jaguar's but the complete package of this car makes up for this annoying inconvenience. This is truly old school elegance but delivers effortlessly when you need to move in a graceful way. Wonderful vehicle if you find a well maintained one. Stick to the later model's 2002 - 2003

This is the 7th jaguar I have owned, all have been great cars. This one the XJ8 seems to be the best to date, all round flexibility in comfort in town and highway. I do not think anyone could overdrive this car, it sticks like glue and goes where you point it. it never fails to get comments on its looks, It truly is in a class of its own.

Amazing vehicle. I have owned A Mercedes S600, a Lexus LS400, a BMW 750il,and a Bently Arnage. None of these cars even comes close to the Jag. I love the engine, it is smoother and more powerful than the V-12s of Mercedes and BMW. I rip apart every mustang and corvette that stops by me at a light. The transmission is amazing. It always shifts very smooth and right on time. I love the beautiful interior, it is much more luxurious than those of its competitors and even my Bently. It's also better looking than them too. You simply can't get any better than a Jaguar Super V8.

My favorite car every. I loved my straight 6 cyl supercharged 97 but this 02 is even better. Unlimited smooth instant rear wheel power with fully defeatable trac. Light them up through 3rd! Perfect for dad with a few kids. Great everyday driver!! Tires and brakes are pricey. I have 94k as of now, bought with 19k. Highly maintained all services and drives so well I find myself leaving the music off just to hear the engine and car itself. Nothing drives like this car. I have come close to wrecking cheap rental cars many times. Tires squeal when I am turning and braking. Seems I wait to long too turn and wait too long to brake in thise cheap cars.

I bought my XJ Sport Jaguar new from a dealer in LA in the year 2003. I love this car. Yes, a bit expensive-yet extroardinarily satisfying. No other car in the market today beats the exterior styleing. Mine lacks the 370/now390 hp supercharged engine, however the stock 290/300hp 4.0L V8 is, to me, quick enough. My son drives my car on a pretty frequent basis and I worry about him out on the road w/ 390supercharged hp to his disposal (although i suspect that his new WRX may be a bit quicker). GREAT CAR! go buy one of the new ones!

I traded in a 2003 XJ8 Sovereign for this 2003 SuperV8. I needed the extended wheelbase and extra rear seat leg room. The Super has a few more bells and whistles including a plusher seat package. The main difference is the supercharger. It really brings the V8 to life. The standard engine has plenty of power, this just puts it over the top. Very comfortable, the SuperV8 has a bit stiffer suspension than the standard models but it is still very smooth. The Alpine sound system is superb.

My second XJR, and worth checking out. The supercharger helps the V8 get up to 60mph in a little over 5sec., not bad for a 4000lb car. Styling has been around for a few years, but still a head-turner and unique from the 4-wheel box cars out there now. Only option available is Brembo brakes (recommended), everthing else is standard (incl. DVD navigation system and CD player). The cheapest limited production, luxury, high performance vehicle you can buy.

I have owned many Jaguars through the years and have had great experiences with the exception of my 1989 XJ6 (it had all the problems that series was notorious for) and my current 2002 XJ Sport. My current Jaguar is a 42,000 mile, Carfax clean, two owner, fully dealer serviced car since new. Despite proper pedigree, it is a complete money pit! Past three months: Failed power seat module, $800. Two failed power window switches, $250 each. Failed power steering pump, on and on. The latest repair is the most insulting. At only 42,000 miles, the flywheel cracked and began rubbing on the bell housing. That repair plus two failed sensors, $1500. Get a warranty or stay far away!

I purchsed the car new in 2004 with 42 miles on it. No problems to speak of, the dealer did replace brake pads and rotors under warranty at 11,902 miles. one of the most comfortable cars for driver and passager, back seats are cramped, but a small price to pay fo rthis car. Have gotten use to the navigation and really like it now. After owning a Jaguar, it's hard to consider driving anything else. Such a high build quality, high grade materials that you jsut don't see in other cars.

After owning Jags since 1998, decided to try the LS430. After 3 weeks in the Lexus I knew I made a mistake. The Lexus felt like a van, cross winds, uncomfortable seats, road noise from the rear tires. I thought I sold my cabin cruiser in 1994. Back to Jaguar in 4 weeks. The drive, comfort, style, handling. Just sit in the car and let it go. It purrrs at 85 mph.

I have had a lot of problems with flat tires driving in DC MD VA DE. And pirelli's are not cheap. I sometimes wonder if it had bad or used tires when I bought it, since they all went flat within a year.

This is my 3rd Jag in 15 years. I would absolutely not recommend the XJ to friends or family. Performance in the city (San Francisco) is horrid. Forget the trip to Tahoe. The transmisssion is inconsistent and shifts too quickly on all gears. Albeit, a fun car for long freeway drives (SF to LA). Comfort is by far the biggest plus for the XJ.
If everyone could afford one!

370 HP in a machine so beautiful is truly unique. Sheer acceleration and handling far surpasses my previous S- Classes and 7-series. Interior comfort is surprisingly good for my 6'5'' frame. Exterior and interior design always earns admiring comments. With 19 inch wheels and huge tires this car draws attention wherever it goes. It's nice to see the Benz and BMW owners wait endlessly for valets to get their car while my XJR is parked prominently in the front and center.
