Bad transmission
Purchased from original owner, low mileage. Beautiful car, best ride ever IF you can keep it out of the shop. Never could get the heater to work properly, froze every winter. Difficult time finding a "good" jaguar mechanic that could troubleshoot. It seemed to always be something. Every time it went to the shop it was $600-$1000. The final straw was when the transmission went out at 79K. Resale value was so low I chose to not fix the car. What a shame. I'll never buy another one.
Beautiful car
This car was an instant classic. I mean some will say the look was older than it was. There were many occasions people thought that my 2000 model year was something from the 80’s. I loved the way the car looked. It was very comfortable and had all the amenities (except Bluetooth and a AUX cable). People loved the way the car rode. I liked driving it. The V8 was smooth. Wasn’t great on gas but my daily commute was short. The only thing that cursed it was the timing chain tensioners... I knew even before buying it that this issue was a big one IF it were to happen to me... and after two years of ownership it happened. And mine had extremely low miles. It was 15 years old when I had it and the odometer was at 56k. It was a one owner car. I wish I could have kept it, but repairs were getting too costly. Buy models 2003 and above. I believe those years had the engine from the S type (more reliable from the Ford era).

Sassyjag!
I love driving this car. However, it is very important to read the books that come with the vehicle so you will know what to do if you have problems. Some things you and repair yourself. Unlike other vehicles, the parts under the hood are fairly visible making it easier to work with should you need a repair. I love it. Great for a retired person who drives around town at his/her leisure. I would not recommend it for someone who has to commute everyday. I will burn a lot of gas and you will have to add oil every 2 to 3 weeks.

Vanden Plas
Very comfortable, quiet car. Not a head turner but if you are beyond that in your life, this could be the car for you
Timing Chain Blown
Timing chain gone at 105,000 miles. Cost to replace engine quoted at $25,000. New car instead.
Steal this car in 07 for about $15,000
This car is a head turner. I love the Alpine audio system. Very fast car. lots of power The car sold new for $75,000. You can buy one in 2007 with about 70k miles out the door for 15k. Also this was the top of the line Vanden Plas edition
Love My Jag.
I purchased my XJ8 with 38,000 miles on it have driven it 2500 without any problems. I am now having an issue with the drivers side brake light. The passenger side works. I think it may be a ground problem as it works some time. The 4.0 engine is quiet and powerful, really like driving it. It is my 3rd Jag., and I love it.
Saved our lives
This car was totaled because of a dummy who has dodged a deer in front of us but chose to leave his car sideways on a curve . . . at night, without his lights on. My wife and I (driving) hit him square (T-boned) (He had already run away). Both front airbags deployed, the traction control and abs brakes kept the car from skidding and there were no injuries save for a slightly scraped nose from the air bag deployment on the right hand side. The was crumpled to the back doors. We bought another one two years newer and like it even more!!!
Love Hurts
I absolutely loved this car, was such a classic. However, I had to get rid of it after 2 transmission failures. It kept cracking drums within the transmission. There has yet to be a car designed that captured the stunning class and sophistication displayed by this Jag. Loved it, and as hard as it was to let her go, it proved impractical to keep fixing it over and over. Ford built it, so that should say something.
Love My Jag
I have owned and driven, Cadillacs, Lincoln Continentals, Mercedes Benz and Porsche. Although these are all fine vehicles, the Jaguar XJ8 is the most complete as far as reliability, comfort, ease of driving and maintenance.
Drives like a jet fighter
Great smooth acceleration, some wind noise, comfortable ride. Corners very well with little sway. Good gas mileage (18-19 in city & 26 on Interstate). Very good controls and within easy reach. Car not for large people, OK if you are tall. Great leg room in front and sufficient in rear. Limited cup holders, only 1 set in front. Tables in back of front seat are high. Plush wool floor mats. After purchasing, drove 600 miles without a hitch. This is the closest to having a sedan that drives like a sports car.
Breakdown city
Purchased a low mileage car off a three- year lease with Jag certified warranty. The past year has been frustrating with broken automatic seat setting device (3 times), broken wiper motor, broken electronic antenana motor, broken thermostat, and countless other nit-picking problems. The car left us stranded twice. Love the car, just wish it was reliable.
My Jag
Overall I love my Jag. You can not beat the look and style. Performance is great. I am big on squeaks and raddles: (check these things out before you buy - Paying $70K for a car should mean perfection) The dash trim did raddle at first - foam fixed. The trim going up along the front windows is not well mounted and raddles (looks easy to fix). At a low speed I hear a very faint high pitch squeal from somewhere in the dash that comes and goes. I have no idea what this is but it can be annoying. Drive very slow (5mph) for .5 to 1 mile to make sure you do not have the same issue.
buyer beware!
My vehicle was bought from a 3rd party while under factory warranty. The local dealer sold me an extended warranty before the new car warranty expired. The "nickasil' engine has been discontinued! Mine is a disaster! The car with 48k miles on it, has been blowing out white smoke for periodically since the miles were in the 20's. The engine is worn out and needs to be replaced. Extended warranties won't cover "wear". Jaguar won't help! All services were done at the dealer! Jag buyers and owners BEWARE!!! This is very costly and discouraging especially with such low mileage!
2000 XJ8
I purchased my Jag used with 38000 miles. The car has stunning lines and great styling. It's amazingly small inside for a big car and sits very low to the ground - tall or heavy people may not like the size. I have had a couple of maintenance items in the six months I've owned that ended up costing quite a bit - I chalk these items to the cost of buying a used car. The car also has a tendency to rattle - especially from the dash area. The Pirelli tires also seem to be susceptible to flat spotting rather quickly. All in all, I am very pleased with the car - it's got great style, stellar ride and performance, and as a used car, great value.
Super Cat
What a wonderful car to own and drive. I upgraded the wheels to the XJR's 18" and had a cone air filter installed to take off the restrictione. It opens up about 30hp and really lets the engine scream. Huge difference. The car is at home both in city or highway use. I wish it had a more modern navi system like the newer ones, and that gas cost $1.50 other than that, this is my dream car. Everyone that has ridden it loves it. Very, very solid. Get one if can. Don't even consider a Germany car over this, they do not compare.
Reliable and Stylish
I considered several cars before buying this car, including the Mercedes S-500 and Audi A-8. When it came down to it, I had to ask why I was buying it. Had my plans including driving 100 mph on the German Autobahns, I would have chosen from the German cars. But I wanted style and something comfortable to ride around town and short distances within Texas. The Jaguar won hands-down!
JAG Review
Beautiful ride. No issues in the last three years other than replacing brakes. Very dependable.
Babied from Birth
Truly an excellent automobile. Always did everything I expected of it. Braking, acceleration, handling, etc. Won several awards in appearance.
Great car, but can I rely on it?
Great car on the highway...smooth as silk and good overall handling. Takes a while for the tires to warm up and smooth out though. It's not as agile as the German cars, but I knew this when I bought it...just miss this sometimes. With only 36000 miles, I would expect more reliability and fewer quirky repairs.
My other Jag
This is my everyday car. Fun to drive and very comfortable around town. It's big yet so nimble and easy to park. Interior is quite nice although the cup holder is placed awkwardly in the way of the gear shift.
2000 jaguar xj8l
Great car, great styling very comfortable, handles better than any car I've driven
