Used 1997 Isuzu Trooper Consumer Reviews
Built to last
First off, this is an unbelievable vehicle. I bought the 96 in 2007 to haul a horse trailer and it does just fine. I'm 19 and this thing has been put through hell. I can out perform anyone out on the two tracks. It handles the harsh Michigan winters flawlessly, never gotten stuck! I bought it with 170k miles on it and now it has about 214k. Haven't replaced anything that wasn't due to my harsh offroading. I actually use the v6 3.2 litre to pull my dads 7000 lb crestliner. It spits and sputters, but once you put it it power mode it controls the boat rather nicely. Buy this truck you'll have it forever.
Love my Trooper
I bought my Trooper brand new in '96 when the big Trooper rollover scare was going around, hence I got a great deal. Let me tell you, I have not been able to get the tires off the ground, let alone roll it over, and it has gone around some sharp corner pretty fast both on and off road. It has great towing capacity. I started a business with my trooper pulling heavy loads of concrete and lumber and at 70,000 miles I still have the original brakes. The only problems I have had was at 50,000 miles I had a valve cover leak. It was fixed under warranty.
This thing rocks!
Rock solid truck. The best I've ever seen. Here's a cool thing in the midwest. Show me one that is all rusted out. You won't find many because of the excellent ground clearance and plastic coverings over the wheelwells. This truck is a dream for all of you who have to handle offroading and tough weather. Bring on the Landcruisers and LandRovers!!
Keep on tickin'
I'm the original owner. Have 196,000 miles on it. I'm on my 3rd starter. Talked with other owners with some problem...hard to replace too. Have to drop crossmember. What's up with filling the transmission fluid...stinks! It's hard to get to and no dip stick...who's the DIP? Better replace your tranny filter or it'll start bucking like a bronco. Under powered with rather lousy mpg. Keep up with the tunes and it'll keep going. Great 4wd with studs in winter since i live in snow country.
Best Vehicle I ever owned
I had one of these a few years back and regret selling it. Bought new, put 140k miles on it with only minor isssues. Nice ride and loads of room. Only negative was poor fuel ecomomy and didn't hold its value very well after Consumer Reports fabicated a story about it rolling over.
