Loved my QX4!
I purchased my 1998 infiniti qx4 new replacing my 1993 pathfinder. The qx4 is light years nicer than the pathfinder! Qx4 is the most reliable, comfortable and trouble free vehicle ever! Bose stereo rocks! Scheduled maintenance and a small repair here and there in the 167,000 miles I drove it! Michelin xlt 100,000 mi. All weather SUV tires are awesome on qx4! So disappointed infiniti discontinued it! Just traded for a BMW x5 -- it was time -- although qx4 is still running beautifully and everything works perfectly! Amazing in all aspects! If you adhere to regular service schedule -- this is the best car ever! Love the 2wd/awd/4wd option - - never got stuck or slid on bad roads!
QX4 Years Later
Bought it used in 1998 with 40K miles. It is 2008 and it has 191,000 miles. I drive about 19K miles per year and it has been a great vehicle with the sunroof, Bose stereo and seat warmers. I started having problems about 3 years ago and rebuilt the transmission $2,500. I'm now looking at rebuilding again another $2500. The first transmission should have held up and now it is threatening to leave me stranded so I'm selling prior to keeping it with the high miles. Other problems included a bizzare rear-end problem that the dealer couldn't fix. Firestone finally fixed that, but the vehicle felt like it would roll or shake after an 18 wheeler prior to the fix. Perfect for a driver of less miles.
Terrific vehicle
Suspension is rough but not uncommon for vehicles that utilize 4wd. Fuel economy is great (I get 18 mph) and that is with a hole in the exhaust manifold. The power is fantastic. I live on a ranch in NW North Dakota where we have some pretty tough hills; the 4 WD of the QX4 really kicks, even when chasing horses, cows, straight up some pretty tough hills. I purchased it with 86K miles on it; it now has almost 150K miles and the engine's never been touched and doesn't "burn" oil.
Moms new 120,000 QX4
My brother bought this SUV in 1995 and ran it up 40k and did a quick sale to me as a fixer upper for $1000, he was told from a shop that it would cost $12k to fix right. Nonsense!~!Well $1200 later she was purring and looking new, but you have to look at the estimates! They priced everything as infinity and tried to charge dealership cost plus shop markup! I shopped pathfinder on ebay and cut the bill. Then gave it to mom, she's in love with her qx4 and even had the stereo upgraded with a new stereo with back up camera and DVD has been flawless for another 60k miles and climbing. She says it isn't how old you are, its how your treated.
A True Classic
There is a reason the QX4 is a very high demand SUV. I have joyfully driven this vehicle for over 150k miles. It purrs like a kitten and is as dependable as the day is long. The QX4 is the best vehicle I have ever owned and it pains me to part with it. However my new purchase is also an Infinity SUV. The QX4 is an expert handler on snow and ice and superb craftsmanship is still evident 150k miles later. It is a tad bit underpowered for mountain driving and the gas mileage is below average. However even today the vehicle turns heads and is an absolute joy to drive. It is too bad Infiniti discontinued the QX4 as I would certainly have bought another one. Viva QX4!! I will miss my trusty friend.
Just hit 180,000 miles with no major problems
I bought my 1997 Infiniti Qx4 in '99 (I'm the second owner) and this is the best car I've ever owned. I will eventually give it up, but my goal now is 300K miles because the engine is that good and reliable. Drives very well for what is essentially a truck (a little bumpy in the back seats, but my kids have never complained). You can haul a lot in it, too. And in the snow, and on mountain passes? This SUV can cut through anything. I've only used 4-low a few times, mostly I just hit the switch for 4wd -- and you can go anywhere in confidence. Only repair? Alternator replacement at 140,000 miles. If you find a decent Qx4, even if has over 100k miles, grab it. I don't plan on giving mine up anytime soon, though. Plus, it's got a killer six-speaker Bose sound system.

A Great Car!
We purchased the car new and it's only been the repair shop once (besides oil changes and brake pads) and we didn't have to take it in. The Battery died and they came to the house and replaced it. This was when the car was six! Weve owned Mercedes, BMWs, AUDIs before and during the time weve owned this car but none have been as dependable. Its eerily reliable! Only complaints are the Bose stereo isnt of German quality and its not powerful like a German auto (you can tell when you are merging into busy freeways).
Most reliable SUV ever
Over 120,000 miles and not a single repair required. ZERO DOLLARS SPENT on repairs. I have changed my oil every 3,000-5,000 miles and the motor hums like it did the day I bought it. It's now 2007 and the body is looking dated compared to newer cars like the FX and Murano, but this is still a solid car. We have had several snow and ice storms and the 4-wheel drive makes me feel very secure when the wife/kids areout driving. While others were stuck inside, we were out enjoying the day.
QX4 Review
No defects found at time of purchase. Never has had a breakdown, stall, etc., most reliable vehicle I've ever had. Friends marvel at it's comfortable, quiet ride.
Infiniti
I Love this vehicle! It is Luxurious, and reliable. I feel very safe driving it. Classy and dependable. I have towed my 2000 pound Tent Trailer with no problems in the mountains, etc. You just have to take it easy and allow the vehicle to go about 50 mph up steep roads, but that is no big deal to me!
Good SUV
Had this vechicle for about 3 years/30k. It was reliable, and maintenance was not bad. Ride was a bit stiff, and MPG was terrible. About 14-15MPG. 3.3 V6 struggles badly to move this heavy SUV. But it was a nice luxury SUV, and in the snow, it was among the best. Great winter vehicle. Radio went out, starter, and some other minor things, but no big deal. My full size Tahoe gets better MPG and with a lot more power.
QX4
Car is somewhat underpowered. New v-6 has better h.p. Very reliable. Only problem was with battery that had to be replaace twice.
It's a beautiful slug...
Ours has about 90,000 miles on it and we haven't really had any problems with it. The interior is luxurious, the sound system is top-notch, and it handles great off-road. The auto-4wd feature works fantastic in icy conditions. The engine is WAY underpowered, growly, and noisy, totally contradictory to what a luxury vehicle should be, however. The interior is cramped for my 6'3" frame, but my 5'1" wife loves it.
A Posh Pathfinder
As a first car, the QX4 has served me well. It's got good looks and above-average handling for a truck on its side, but as time wore on its, deficiencies became more and more apparent. Gas mileage is awful; 15 mpg is about the norm for me and I can rarely go more than 250 miles on a tank, this with a (horribly gutless) V6! The ride is choppy in the back seat, which itself is cramped with next to no headroom for me, though admittedly I'm also 6'1". And while the overall maneuverability is good, the steering is way too heavy and has little feel (it also seems to be permanently misaligned despite a visit to the shop, which may just be an age-related issue).
QX4 - Great Vehicle
This vehicle is a true Infiniti. It's extremely reliable, comfortable, good handling in snow, and excellent cargo/family stuff capacity. The only two areas where this vehicle could use some improvement is - it goes through tires pretty quickly unless you go with top of the line model and the accelerator pedal is a little stiff. Otherwise - highly reliable, routine maintenance only, great vehicle, great dealer, great service.
Surprised
I bought this car without knowing much about QX4- it repaced a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I couldn't be happier. I love my QX. I have even put it through some rigourous off-raoding; it handles it surprisingly well.
Best entry level luxury SUV
This my second year of drive Qx4. I love it. Only problem I have found is so far is in exhaust system heat foils. Runs like a charm.
Excellent car
I have owed a few different SUVs and none compare with the QX4.
Fru Fru 4 Wheeler
The QX4 is definitely in the category of luxury 4x4's. Lots of cushion and comfortable seats with plenty of room for long drives. Compared to its sibling the Pathfinder, the Q offers a much smoother ride, much more cushion and its weight makes you "feel" more protected when traveling on the highway. Handling = adequate. Power = severely lacking...we feel like the flinstones peddling up the hills. Great car for those who drive mostly around town, with occasional off-road adventures. If you want a lot of power and plan to tow heavy loads the '97Q is not for you. We love taking it on trips but hate paying the gas bill.
I Love It!!!!
After 3 years, I still love the way the QX4 looks and drive. The vehicle is stylish and classey. The sound system is good and I have not had any major problems out of this vehicle.
Best car I’ve ever owned
This is the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. Has almost a quarter million miles on it, I still average 17-18 miles per gallon. Accelerated quick when needed. Power sunroof and all accessories still work. And I have no problem trusting it on long trips. Only thing on it that has been replaced is the AC compressor.
LOVE LOVE LOVE MY QX4
I recently bought this car used so i am the second owner. When i bought it , it was at 213,000 miles now I have it to 223,000 miles. Even though its a 98 and it is now 2016 it runs like brand new! I haven't had to repair anything major yet! Which i am pretty happy about. This car is perfect for the snow! The only con is that it's not gas efficiant, but with low gas prices now a days it's not so bad. 10/10 would mosf defiantly recommend to anyone in need of an amzing SUV!

GREAT TRUCK!!!
NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH IT.
Hmmm.....
I bought this car with only 45k last year. It's been very reliable but does lack power. The WORST part of this car is the suspension!!! My little Frontier rides like a Cadillac compared to the QX4. Any slight bump in the road and the suspension bottoms out like you just dropped off a 4ft cliff. This is embarrassing when you are taking friends around and it's supposed to be a luxury SUV. The shocks were replaced and it made no difference. Also, no one makes anything other than OEM shocks so you can't even put stiffer shocks if you wanted to. Needless to say, this will be my last QX4.
Luv my QX4
My first SUV, bought it used in '99 with 26,000 miles on it. Now has 60,000 miles. I had a problem with the exhaust system which the dealer repaired free of charge. The gas pedal sticks occasionally. Other than that no problems at all. I love it and would probably buy another one. I love the smooth ride and the luxury feel inside the cabin. Would highly recommend it!
Never Again
This was my first car when I was 17. Went to get it with my grandfather. The first 6 months were great! I enjoyed driving this SUV. However this went downhill very quickly. The first thing to go were the rotors and since the first time i had them repaired ive had to have them replaced twice!! Ive only owned the car 2 years! This is an obvious engineering flaw. This on top of the air conditioning going out($1500) and the struts ($1000) is ridiculous. I could have purchased a REAL luxury car like a BMW or Mercedes-Benz and been better off! If you're thinking of purchasing one please think twice! Japanese engineering is not the best and is filled with flaws. Just as a warning!
great car!
good car and good outlook, easy to drive and stable quality
Great SUV
This SUV has been a great car to own. It has been completely reliable with no time in the shop for anything. All the bells and whistles still work perfectly and is shines up nicely.
Quality, but worth the price?
My wife and I love to set out for the day and cruise around with the sun roof open. However, when we are on the local pot-hole filled roads we cannot wait to get out of the car. It makes a mountain out of a mole hill. This is really amplified in the backseat where head room is already lacking. We do love to turn up the Bose system and enjoy the open road.
The best suv I have ever driven
This suv rocks! From the first day I bought it till now I have had no problems. Being in the field of fixing and driving cars daily this is by far the best suv I have driven. Yes the engine could have been more powerful, but the comfort and reliability of this vehicle outweighs this factor. The 4 wheel drive system is the best and most reliable it compares with Land Rover which is considered the best in 4 wheel drive system. If you want to be safe and and never get stuck this is the car for you.
Reliable, Reliable, Reliable
It's an Infiniti. 'nuff said. Runs like a top, never a problem, love the service loaners. I've owned 3 over the past 10 years and have yet to have any problem with any of the 3. G20, I30, now QX4. Is the Infiniti logo worth the $$? It is to me. The loaner car for oil changes, and overall service experience make owning the car EASY. Greatest look? Greatest ride? Greatest interior? No, no and no. But for the person looking for a dependable, smart SUV that is easy to own and doesn't take up your time, this is it.
Carol's review
Have enjoyed vehicle tremendously. Am a petite female but have felt comfortable handling this particular SUV (not true of others tested). Purchased it as a preowned vehicle. Has required no major mechanical work and has been extremely reliable and luxurious.
Best Car
Best car I've ever owned. 92000 miles, no leaks rattles or squeaks. Only one warranty claim, ac covered completely. I'll buy another car from Infiniti.
upscale pathfinder
very nice interior - easy-to-use controls. good use of wood and leather. very underpowered and less than good mileage. loud sunroof when open. totally trouble-free
qx4 is nice
there is not another truck in this class that can compare
QX4 better than Pathfinder
I would say that the QX4 is a leap ahead of the N. Pathfinder. Its interior and body molding were superb. I do have a problem with the Horrible gas mileage and stiff steering. While I owned this vehicle I had to get the emmissions corrected twice and both front struts had to be replaced. Maintenance on this vehicle is expensive. If I had to do it over again I would've bought a Denali instead, or maybe a used Jag XJ6. One last thing if you like putting up hills at five m/h then this is the car for you.
Outstanding SUV
Without question, this is a top quality vehicle. The ride, appearance, fit and finish are all above what you would expect when changing from one of the domestics. This is the closest I have come to carefree driving.
