Hyundai Tucson is a surprise
Impressed me as to how well it drives and the feeling of a solid car with excellent handling. I was considering Mercedes SUV C300 and Jaguar Fpace both of which look outstanding as well as the Mazda CX5. I can't say that the others are noticeably better handling than the Tucson. Excellent value. I have only had the car for 3 weeks.

Tucson Sport (2.4 Engine)
Six month since I bought it, perfect, nice looking, a lot of equipment , reasonable storage. Mileage is not super economic, but the price and rebates were excellent. I had a Sorento 2012 with same engine 2.4, 93000 miles and seven years, only replaced front seat heater and opening remote control, breaks front and back once. I like better the Tucson design than the Kia Sportage, both share a lot of the components. Somebody may be concern with the engine failure from 2011 to 2014, the problem was a production process, not a design flaw, they fixed, low % of engine had the problem. The 10 years 100,000 miles come handy. Tucson is great to drive, quiet ride, nice Apple Car features.

Examine your available competing vehicle options!
Honda CRV must select LX trim to get 2.4. Which leaves you w/o all driver assist (front collision avoidance, lane-departure, rear-cross traffic ect.) Toyota Rav-4, forget any advance previous safety features, of which gets you no significant insurance savings. I had to select the Sport model which was last years 2018 Value Edition, to get the same features, but upgraded from 1.6 Turbo (discontinued for 2019 model year) to 2.4 non-turbo (trust me, loosing turbo to naturally aspirated saves on vehicle lifetime useage.) Fuel economy!!!! Well, do you wish to quibble about a few MPG when you are in the 30 MPG range. I test drove all comparable, Nissan Rogue, Honda CRV, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, nice but, CVT not as seamless as expected, and now issues arising with long-term (100,000+ mi.) use. Toyota uses comparable auto-trans as the Tucson, but paying for Toyota name, and losing all tech features not my style. Just go test drive a Tucson, and any comparable model of your choice. I'm sure you will find, as I did, fit and finish, tech, and driver comfort features found on the Tucson as standard equipment puts this vehicle ahead of the competition.
Good basic vehicle, engine issues, some cosmetic
We have two Tahoes, otherwise would have gone with the Sante Fe. This is a good, basic small SUV. The finish is just above average. What is disturbing is engine performance. That had stall/fire issues, did a recall and installed a computer chip to keep the engine from knocking. Well, it does not knock, but it does not perform consistently either. Sometimes you hit the gas pedal and it just hangs out. Obviously the chip and the engine are not in sync. I did go into the dealer, and they could not find anything, or did not want to find anything. Also, a slight coolant drop over time, they could find nothing with that. Otherwise, it appears reliable to start and drive, however getting another is not decided yet. Also, exterior trim could be better. Headlamp covers failed and got pitted while the rest of the car was good, so obviously poor plastic. The paint and rubber trim are starting to fail with 33K miles, regular cleaning and waxing. I feel the fees for blue link and remote start are not justified. In the last 10 starts, it would not connect 6 of the times. So, in this current time cycle, I did not renew. A theoretically nice feature, but the car either warms up or cools down fairly quickly within the first mile of driving. If it worked rapidly and all the time, it might have been worth it. However, given the issues noted versus cost. No thanks.

Swiss Arm Knife
Hyundai makes a quality SUV and they bring to market an indisputable value proposition by offering accessories and services other OEMs do not. It is impossible to find a sub 30k SUV that includes triple beam LED’s, wireless phone charger, 360 degree camera, AWD and other standard features. But this value comes at a cost. Namely sub par customer support at the National level. With Hyundai you get a quality vehicle but when issues persists the best I can say is good luck. Long past my on-going issue, I can say the Vehicle is reliable, comfortable, competent and basically enjoyable to drive. The seats could be a little more comfortable and the vehicle a bit peppier, but overall I’m pleased with it and would recommend.
