One year review

DND, 12/19/2016
2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited 4dr SUV (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

One year and 30k miles into this vehicle, my reviews are mixed. Biggest complaint is the transmission lag and the clunky feel of the shifting between the first couple of gears. After 2nd gear, transmission transitions smoothly. I have learned how to adjust to these problems by using the sport mode when I'm in stop and go traffic or want immediate response to acceleration. The other way to minimize lag from a complete stop is to wait a couple of seconds after releasing brake, then accelerate. I know paying $30k plus for a vehicle that this shouldn't be a problem, but if you're stuck with the issue make the best of the situation. The second biggest complaint is a faint pulsating vibration between 50 and 65 mph in the front right of vehicle. Tires have been rotated and balanced. No fix yet! Other than these two issues, the car is great. It is the quietest ride I've ever owned and the gas mileage is commendable. I have purchased two other Hyundai's in the past and they were great cars. I will have to really re-think whether the next purchase will be a Hyundai.

I'm afraid that i'm going to get into an accident because of the extremely poor acceleration! The handling is great and the comfort also. Iv'e already had the "update" done on it. Better at first, but now it's the same. Dealer keeps saying it's just how the car is.

Don't purchase vehicle until they find a solution

I purchased this car last year and I wish I would've bought a different car. I started experiencing jerking issues a few days after I purchased the car. Not safe at all! The acceleration is poor as well. Also, my dashboard light changes when I'm traveling at different speeds. I always keep the lights on the lowest setting and it randonmly changes without me touching it. I only have a little over 4k miles on this car. I rarely drive the car because I work from home now. However, I don't see this car lasting two years without having major mechanical issues. The transmission will be the first to go! Please, consider other options before purchasing this vehicle.

Terrible Transmission

Since leasing my vehicle 7/2016 I have had it back into the dealership 5 times!! The car is unsafe! The car hesitates, jerks, jumps when starting from a slow speed or stopped position. When in traffic it constantly jerks. It feels as if the car may stall out but it just hesitates which makes it extremely unsafe when crossing traffic. The last time I brought it to the dealer, after they updated the transmission software for the 3rd time, I asked the service manager to ride with me. The car hesitated from a stop at a stop sign and I was told that is how the dual transmission worked and that I needed to learn how to drive the car and it would perform better in the sport mode. The car continues to repeat the same hesitation on regular/daily basis feeling like the transmission has no idea what to do when starting out at a low speed or from a stopped position. I would not purchase this vehicle again and am trying to work with the dealer on getting into another car. This of course will be costing me more $$ since Hyundai will not admit to the problems yet there are hundreds of other complaints for the same exact thing. Shame on you Hyundai!!

Step on gas... car bucks. The Tucson takes time to accelerate. Not a good feature in traffic. Think you can pull out and accelerate in traffic? No way. Leather seats have a hole. At 2k miles! Those little breathing holes and super thin leather are not made well. Very poor quality. Plus Hyundai won't or can't fix. The WORST problem by far is the AC. Take a 2-4 hour road trip, AC quits. It blows ambient air from lower vents, but weakly, and almost no air out of top vents. The system fans roar, but no cooling at all. If you stop for an hour the AC will work again.., but not for long. Overall this car is one big regret. Horrible. And dealerships are of no help.

CUV sport 1.6 L turbo....very nice

This car is based on my latest two purchases...I had a 2013 dodge nitro and and a 2014 mazda cx5...the hyundai tucson sport is the most fun to ride and most fuel efficient combined of the three. It's seems wider and longer than the Mazda cx5....and looks more sporty and feels more rugged yet quiet....it's a sexy car. I have no regrets other than pushing more for the ultimate limited package...which I will go for next time.

Oil consumption issue

HUGE oil consumption issue, and I have yet to get a dealership or Hyundai to address the problem. Oil change and at 2100 miles afterwards, there will be no oil reading on the dipstick. Ridiculous for anyone to even claim this is normal oil consumption, it certainly is not. This is a motor issue. It would be great if Hyundai opened up to the problem, and fixed it right! I’m on my second catalytic converter now. I guess Hyundai finds it less expensive to keep replacing catalytic converters under federal regulations about every 20k? Not okay. Would have loved the car, but this is a huge problem.

Transmission Problems with 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Love this vehicle...except that weird thing with the transmission that when stopped and in drive gear, just wont move when it's time to go! I have experienced all of the problems everyone has been complaining about in the 7-speed DCT. Just fyi, I took it in to my dealer on Tuesday for this issue. On Thursday morning (8/11/16), Hyundai released a software update to correct this issue. I picked up the car on Thursday, and it seems to have worked so far. The tranny even seems to have a little more pick-up from stop to go. So far, pleased. Call your dealer and ask about the software update. This might just fix the problem.

Make sure that your car accelerates smoothly, still having some problems after 45000 miles. Dealership made an adjustment, but still hesitates. Also left turn signal stops working in the middle of a turn, but never when the dealer shecks it out.

We already have a 2011 sonata and liked it so when we needed an SUV the Tucson seemed like a logical option. We've had the car for a month and its been great except for a couple of items The car sometimes hesitates from a dead stop but not anything terrible. The GPS system is balky but I only have it because you need to order the ultimate package to get the front end collision avoidance system and the GPS comes with it. Why anyone would use this instead of Google maps is a mystery to me. The Bluetooth iPhone link is also balky. It was much better on the Sonata. Hands free dialing finds contacts too slowly and requires too many steps. Much easier to just use Siri. The 2011 Sonata without navigation had a better faster interface than my 2016 Tucson with Ultimate package. The seats are also a little firm but i knew that from the Sonata and decided to live with it since the rest of the car met my needs at a better price than the competition

It is hazardous to drive this car. There are several issues occurring. The transmission is jerky, hesitates and some times the vehicle comes to a complete stop and will not move, after shuddering and pulling forward. The car does not even have 5000 miles on it. The interior lights flicker on and off. The A/C acts as if it is about to go out. There are times when it seems as if the AC is not even on. The carpet is super thin. I noticed this because a piece is missing and it is a very thin layer that seems to sit on a piece of cardboard. It is too scary to drive it. You have no clue when the car is going to "decide" to come to a complete stop. It always seem to happen when you are on the interstate or when traffic is heavy. It is as if you are risking your life each and every time you drive the car. The Bluelink - car assurance - that comes with the vehicle is not trustworthy. You are "supposed" to get a report when something is not functioning as it should. However each and every time that I have had a problem, Bluelink has not detected this problem. The dealership also cannot get the vehicle to replicate any of the problems so they don't consider there to be any problems. In the mean time you still have to pay for a car this is really worthless. Update: I did have one of the so called patch jobs - computer software cluster update - that just did not work. In fact, the car started acting even worse than it did prior to the "Fix" The NHTSA also had Hyundai to issue a recall in October . However I never went in for the recall because it seemed to be the same as the original "fix" and I just did not think it would work. My mother was terminally ill at the time and I just did not have the time to devote to trying to get a NEW car to function the way it was supposed to function. I was one of her primary caregivers and I had to devote myself to her. I drove the car out of necessity because I needed it to take car of her. I just drove very slowly and took my time because you never knew when something out of the ordinary was going to happen. I was always afraid. Eventually I had the car put on the voluntarily repossessed list (I was financed by Hyundai) because I could not continue to pay for this car. I loved my car but I just couldn't continue on like that. Once I stopped paying, Hyundai's response was automatic. Whereas I could not get them to respond to me, once I stopped paying, they called constantly on a continuous basis, daily. I was told that they just financed the car, but I picked it. Forget the fact that they are the ones who built the car. So I am now without a car and have to depend on public transportation in Chicago because of the blind faith that I had in Hyundai Motors. I traded in my perfectly good 2014 Tucson Limited (that World Hyundai - Matteson, IL, made a huge profit off of) to get a 2016 Tucson 1.6L that was nothing more than a defective, dysfunctional, dangerous piece of trash on wheels. They took the car back and informed me that they are going to sell it to someone else, another unsuspecting innocent consumer, that will be fooled by the looks and low mileage. I just don't understand how they can get away with this. So Buyers please beware. Do your homework because once you sign for a car, you are finished. I am now in financial ruin because of this purchase.

"Let the Buyer Beware"

Disappointed consumer, 07/18/2022
2016 Hyundai Tucson Sport 4dr SUV (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)

The “check engine” light on my 2016 Tucson was on and the vehicle was running rough. The mileage was 115,000. I took it to the Pohanka Hyundai dealer in Salisbury, MD on April 26. I was informed that there was a “misfire on coils 2 and 4.“ The service department recommended replacing the spark plugs. The bill for the plug assembly and the coil assembly was $635.00. After driving the Tucson for approximately 1,000 miles, the check engine light appeared again. The same symptoms that prompted me to take the car in for service the first time appeared again. According to Hyundai, they “found a misfire on cylinder 2, 3, 4 . Confirmed misfire follows when moving coil 3. Cleared codes and confirmed CEL is off.” This time the bill was $335.00. After driving 500 miles the check engine light was on again. This time Hyundai “performed compression test and engine passed. Installed new spark plug.” I was not charged for this service, although I spent several hours at the dealership waiting. Barely 300 miles later, the light appeared again. I took the car in for service yet again. This time it was “misfire on cylinder 2, 3, 4. Called ‘techline” and advised tech to perform another compression test. Compression test passed. Recommend to replace all injectors. Installed new injector, cleared codes.” The bill this time was $1,187.00. I should have listened to my instincts and walked away from this vehicle. Instead I foolishly authorized Hyundai to make the “repairs.” It seemed that each time I took the Tucson in for service, the problem was worse after driving the car for a while. In retrospect, it was almost as thought Hyundai wanted to sell me a new vehicle. Less than two weeks later the check engine light appeared again. After spending over $2,100 and taking the Tucson in FOUR times, Hyundai did not fixed the problem. This time the light was on and Tucson was overheating. I was not comfortable driving it and I was not going to go back to the Hyundai dealership and spend more money. At the end of the day, it was my decision to continue to spend money on repairs. The dealer was not proactive in helping to repair the vehicle. The technicians did not (could not?) diagnose the problem. I would not recommend buying a Tuscon or any other Hyundai for that matter.

Even My Mechanic Asks Me To Get Rid Of It

List of things that have been recalled or gone wrong since buying it brand new: *Transmission Software Update because the DCT is junk. Hyundai even decided to send out a flyer to tell you that this is just how a manual would run. My husband has a manual and it never runs this bad. Ever. It has issues accelerating. You can put your foot all the way to the floor and have it move maybe 5mph max at random times. Usually your first full stop after a stop sign on a cold day. I live in the North. It revs rpms going up or down a hill as well. Also, it occasionally forgets how to change gears. Once it got me stuck on a mountain rd because it forgot how to change gears without being turned off then back on. I had no reception and was alone. Not fun. Even after it wouldn't go over 35 and bucked the whole hour home. Which leads me to my next point. *Transmission entirely replaced. Still has acceleration issues and won't start at an intersection properly, but at least I haven't been stuck on a mountain road recently?! *Door handles. They only work if I pull them at least 3 times on the passenger side or twice on the driver side if they have recently been locked. If they haven't recently been locked they open immediately. *Turn Signal. Left turn signal will randomly turn itself off at intersections. Still in position, no lights or sound. *Passenger Airbag. Had to be replaced because of a short, never been in an accident. *Hood Latch. Recall because it was defective, could have opened in my face while driving. *ABS. Hyundai says there's a recall I haven't completed on this, but they've reprogrammed it twice already. Apparently it can cause an engine compartment fire so I shouldn't park near any structures. The last two times it was fixed was because the ABS had a defective part where it could have gone off at any time without warning while I was driving. Hyundai swore they'd never seen this problem before and didn't believe it was happening so I was at the dealer twice for it. Come to find out the part is on backorder... if you've never seen it why is the part on back order? On a side note when they re-assembled my dash after this it had issues, turns out the dealer didn't know how to re-assemble the dash so it took days to get it back. *Engine. This one was partially me. I accept that. I did not do enough oil changes. However even my mechanic agreed a 2 year old engine...2 years old....should not die that spectacularly. I've read there was a lawsuit out there or something for metal shavings in the engine causing this to happen. I'll never know, but I was paying 5k extra for the car from year 2 because I had to get a new engine. Again, I take partial responsibility for this. *Heat Vent. Fell off randomly on my husband's foot while driving. *Electrical. My BDS system has issues on cold days wherw it randomly beeps at nothing and my dash randomly resets to completely and goes back to 2012, which is interesting because it's a 2016. In conclusion, this car has been a lemon, in the truest sense of the word. I don't know whether it's Hyundai, this model 2016 Tucson, or just my car (I'd say that's not it with how many DCT complaints I've read through). Every time I take it into my mechanic (not Hyundai) he asks when I'm getting rid of the death trap lemon. At some point you cry or just bust out laughing. That's exactly what my husband and I did the last time the Transmission bucked and didn't accelerate after it was replaced and Hyundai gave us that flyer that said this was normal, and they said the car was fixed. You laugh, because otherwise this car will make you cry or worse. Buyer beware, you're in for an expensive wild ride, if you can get it to move first. -

Horrible mistake

Initially, I thought the purchase of this car would be a good decision. I bought it brand new and was the only owner. Within 6 months of ownership, there was a total mechanical failure of the air conditioning system. The entire unit had the be removed and replaced. Imagine having your car gutted in the first 6 months of owning it. The only positive thing is that the repair was covered under the warranty. Additionally, the turbo model with the dual clutch transmission has a problem with the car jumping as you accelerate. Initially, I thought this was a transmission issue. It turns out that the issues with the car can not be repaired, and until now, there still is no fix for it. Fast forward 3 years, my drivers side front window dropped and would not come back up. It turns out that the car had a mechanical failure of the regulator (which can only be purchased at the dealership) and it costs $500 to fix the issue with labor included. The most frustrating part of all of this is that my car was out of warranty (the 60k mile) and the repair was out of pocket. Fast forward 4 months, the same thing happened to the regulator of the passengers side front window. Still out of warranty and still out of pocket. Fast forward an additional four months. The SAME EXACT ISSUE happens to the passengers rear window. At this point, every time I have had to change my oil, I have had to pay an additional $500 for repairs that SHOULD NOT need to be made to a 4 year old car. If I were to count the number of times the rear windows have been opened, 50 times would be a generous number. I live in Florida, and using air conditioning is part of my every day whether it’s winter or summer. I would never, ever, EVER recommend Hyundai to anyone who is looking for a reliable car. If you want a money pit and something you have to put money into additional to servicing and your monthly car payment, this is the car for you. Buyer beware.

Buyer Beware

Purchased a 2016 Tucson Limited edition August 2016. The first 10,000 miles (3 months for me) was great. Hyundai had great options in the vehicle and it *was* fun to drive. For a guy who is 6'2", the seat is a little small, but it works. I admit, I had to adjust from driving a larger SUV to something smaller, but it zipped down the highways on my commute. I commute 55 miles one way to work, so I would say 95% of the mileage (currently 97,000) is from commuting. It does drive decently in the snow too or whatever weather Maryland experiences. The brakes have lasted this long and my mechanic is pleasantly surprised- they are about due for a change. In the 3 years I have owned this car, I have had the turbo replaced twice, air system replaced, and other transmission components that have been under warranty. It does not help that twice a year, for a week, I am without a car and the dealerships (tried two) won’t give a loaner car for the repair work, they expect me to pay for the rental until they confirm all work is under warranty. As I write this, I am taking my car in for the third time in a year because it shuts off on me while driving. While it does hesitate while accelerating like others have mentioned, event after the update, and has since I purchased it- that is not the biggest issue. My issue is that the Tucson shuts off while driving and without any other issues happening. While driving on the interstate the other day and doing 70 mph, it shut off- my a/c still blew fine and no lights lit up the dashboard. It took a few tries to start the car after I coasted to the shoulder. Then again last night, it shut off at an intersection and when I finally got it restarted, it refused to go over 20 mph despite the pedal being pushed to the floor. I am done with this car honestly, if I was not underwater with it, I would get rid of it. The customer service at each dealership has been great when talking to me, but having to repeatedly deal with the same issues and time lost has grown to override any positives the car once had.

DUMPED THIS CAR BECAUSE OF TRANSMISSION

Bought this car brand new (2016) model, but it has the same 7 speed dual clutch automatic trans as the 2017 models. Stay away from this car. This is a Major Safety Issue!!! I was back at the dealer no less than 3 times for the Software Updates that were supposed to fix the issue. It didn't. Could not deal with the shuddering, bucking, lagging, hesitating, lurching ride any longer. I took a Huge hit but traded it in for a Gorgeous Kia Sorento that drives like a normal car should. I was told that the transmission fixes were a "work in progress". No thanx - I wasn't waiting to get T-boned before they get their act together with this car. Too bad, because otherwise it was a nice car in all other respects.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a great overall crossover SUV! I am driving the ECO/AWD/Turbo model for just over 5 years now. The only complaints we have about the Tucson is the feel of the transmission during quick take offs and the headrest. I just traded In this Tuscon for the new 2022 model!

So far I have just over 1,300 miles on the Tucson and am very pleased with it's performance. The 1.6L turbo performs very well. The Tucson is extremely quiet at idle and has no vibration. Acceleration and passing on the highway are no problem. The dual clutch transmission takes some getting used to but I've had no problem with it. Don't expect it to feel like exactly like an automatic, especially at low speeds. The shifts at low speeds become smoother once the transmission adjusts to your driving and you get used to the transmission. I appreciate the smooth ride and find the interior noise to be well controlled (coming from a Mazda3 that was very loud). Handling and steering are impressive also. The driver's seat is also very comfortable. Of the recent cars/SUV's I've owned this is the only one that felt comfortable from the beginning and didn't give me leg, hip or arm discomfort at some point. The infotainment system and Bluetooth work well and I love the ventilated seats. As of now, I'd recommend the Tucson. Update after 22,000 miles: I am still very happy with my Tucson. I had the software updates done on the DCT and enjoy it. I took the Tucson on an 1,800 mile road trip and it behaved well. I am very impressed with the seat comfort. I did have one issue with the AC and had the thermistor replaced under warranty. I still think the Tucson is a good buy. Update after 28,000 miles: Still very happy and no complaints. I’ve been averaging 27-28 mpg in mixed driving including a lot of traffic so I’m happy.

I'm So Sorry I Bought This Car

I have had my car on month short of a year and I have had to take it back to the dealer multiple times for several different reasons. Within the first four months of purchasing this car I began having problems with the transmission. On three different occasions, while I was driving the car and had to stop at a street light or stop sign, the car did not move when I stepped on the car. The engine revved but the car would not move almost as if it was in neutral. Of course, each time I was in traffic and I each time I panicked when the care refused to move. The first two time it happened I put the car back into "park" then returned it to "drive" and the car proceeded forward. But the third time, I was in the middle of an intersection, when I put it into drive it would not move. I had to go from drive to park twice before the car finally moved. The car did not do this all the time. After the first time it happened it didn't happen again for several weeks so I thought it was an isolated incident. After it happened the second time I called the dealer and left a voice message as no one answered the phone and no one returned my call. Within days of making that call it happened for the third time and that is when I contacted Hyundai America and they pointed me int the right direction. They put it on a computer and it seemed to fix the problem. There is also a problem with parallel parking. When I put the car in reverse it momentarily goes forward before it goes into reverse and visa versa. I explained this to the dealer on one of the numerous times I was there for service. Of course, they did not find a problem and told me that I just needed to get used to how the dual transmission system operates on the car. I also have a problem with the car bucking into gear when I put it into park from drive. Most recently, I was on a very heavily trafficked interstate. It was bumper to bumper when a severe thunderstorm came passing through. While in this continual stop and go traffic I began to feel the car start to shudder as if it was going to stall. It didn't stall but at one point when I hit the gas the car did not move for about 20-30 seconds. Then suddenly, it lunged forward and I had to slam the break for fear I would hit the guy in front of me. Needless to say, it was a harrowing experience dealing with the winds, rain, thunder, lightening, the car hesitation then lurching forward nearly hitting the guy in front of me. My heart skipped a beat. I was such a nervous wreck. I was to thankful that it did not happen a second time before my commute was through. I am so very disappointed and sorry I bought this car. I paid a lot of money for this car and I should not be dealing with these sort of problems with a brand new car. Not to mention the hatch that kept opening on it's own and the rear windshield wiper which is not working properly. I purchased a new car to avoid these problems. I feel like I got ripped off. BTW, I'm on my way to the dealer AGAIN today because of these continuing problems. This just shouldn't be!

SE Model is Just Fine

Have had the SE Model for 9 months and about 10 thousand miles. So far so good with this vehicle. In normal transmission mode, acceleration is a bit rugged, and going up hills is a bit tough, but I knew this when purchasing, since I did not want the turbo engine and the added cost. However, when in sport transmission mode, acceleration and going up hills are just fine. Noise level in the vehicle is very minimal. Gas mileage is about what the sticker indicated. Very comfortable, rides nice, and stylish. Sound system is just average. All in all a very happy camper with this vehicle. I hope it stays this way.

Concern for safety

This vehicle has had issues with the transmission. The acceleration is not dependable. I have been in and had all of the updates on my transmission even having the TCM replaced. I still have issues. I am afraid to pull out into traffic as well as make a left-hand turns because the transmission does not shift dependably. There have been many times when I have pulled out into traffic with the gas pedal to the floor and the vehicle has a delayed response. I fear for my life as well as my family's safety. The dealer seems to not be concerned with this and continually tell me that it is the make of the vehicle. Let this be record of my concern if something were to happen.

I purchased the Hyundai Tucson Limited with Ultimate package in June 2016, had the car 10 days and the transmission failed 4 times. It went to the dealer for service and over a month later I finally demanded a buy back from Hyundai and got it. If they had just used a regular "reliable" automatic transmission it would have been a great car. DTC and CVT automatics are not yet reliable enough. Check out the rating from reputable review sites such as Edmunds and Consumer Reports they mostly get great reviews "except"for the transmissions. I got the wife a 2016 Mazda CX-9 instead and it has been excellent.

Door Locks & Tail Light Indicator,Issue

I agree with some of the previous comments about the car being "jerky" because of the dual transmission. It is not a comfortable feeling. My Concerns are the locks on the doors. For some reason, my rear door would not unlock manually or with the remote.I took it in and they fixed the issue because it was still under warranty. Once the warranty expired, the same problem happened again. This time to the front passenger door and the rear driver's side door. The left rear brake light indicator is back on just a few months after I paid over $100.00 to have the bulb replaced. The light comes on and goes off randomly. The car was purchased pre-owned from a dealership and only had 58K miles on it. This is becoming a costly investment. Has anyone else experienced either of these and what was the solution?

*The following is only a short summary of the major problems.* This vehicle has major transmission problems. I was almost rear-ended by a semi because the vehicle would go only 15mph. Countless other times, it failed to accelerate normally, and still does. To remedy the issue Hyundai issued a recall on the transmission, claiming it needed an "update." I took my vehicle in right away for the "update," but it lasted only a few months. I called to get it fixed again, but was told that I would have to pay $35 a day for a loaner vehicle. I clarified that I had to pay for a problem that Hyundai failed to fix the first time, and was told that I was correct. (By the way, there was also an air conditioner recall within the first year, which I had fixed as well.) The backup sensor is unreliable, so make sure you never use it or rely upon it. If you tell Hyundai that the sensor failed to alert you to something behind your vehicle, they will tell you that the sensors are simply aides, and offer to remove any debris that may be on the sensor. (How kind and thoughtful). I could go on and on with problems, but I've wasted enough hours of my life on this piece of crap. It qualified as a lemon back when it had under $24,000 miles on it, but customer service ignored me, and the dealer ship (STEW HANSEN HYUNDAI IN DES MOINES, IOWA) treats me like I'm stupid, giving me the run around, and displaying no customer service skills whatsoever. They contract with S & C Automotive, and I was supposed to receive a call from them regarding rust 6 weeks ago. After calling S & C countless times, I went to Hyundai for assistance. I might as well have taken a nap, because I get more accomplished in my dreams than I do by speaking to these "professionals". Ever read "Replay" by Ken Grimwood? Well, I want a replay.

Know your dealership. They are the ones who will either help or ignore you with future situations. We had a 2003 Sante Fe for 13 years and 104000 miles. We gave it to our grandkids and purchased a 2016 Tuscon based on the great experience our Sante Fe gave us. We are more than pleased. I am keeping an eye on the transmission problems that are starting to pop up. I don't want a repeat of the experience we had with a recall the Sante Fe had on the front coils. Hence, I suggest one keep abreast of problems as they occur and avoid unpleasant surprises later Lack of bells and whistles also limits the number of things to go wrong. I was urged to get the 1.7 litre with turbo. I declined the offer. The previous transmission problems were tied to the 1.7. Today you discover even Hyundai gave up on the 1.7. Love the cars, not no much for the dealerships or some of the warranty handling by the company. Yet it is symptomatic of most all car companies and the dealers. Unless you want to walk...... Got a letter extending the engine warranty to 150,000 miles. I'll accept that. Simply put it seems to be less expensive to find the cause of the problem and fix it.

I purchased my first Hyundai in 2015. So in 2016 we went to lake arrowhead in California and it literally took us almost three hours to go up the hill on what should’ve taken us at most 30 min. Our Hyundai Tucson 2016 overheated. Didn’t want to accelerate. Currently it still hesitates after trying to accelerate from a stop, the reverse back up screen goes black when reversing, and one day the stereo screen didn’t even work. I literally work like a mile away from my house and do not overuse my car so his is ridiculous. I also know I’m not the only person having these issues with the stuttering of the car from a stop.

I really wanted to love this car. I did, actually... for a while. Until it started shaking like a nervous puppy. I can be on the highway, in a drive-thru, or pulling up to the store and this car will start having a seizure! I know now that it's a dual clutch issue and it only happens when I'm going less than 10MPH, but identifying the issue doesn't help. Evidently, Hyundai can't or won't do anything about it so I guess I'll be trading it in very soon for something better. What a waste of money!

Bought it brand new, multiple repairs already

I really really wanted to love this car. The style, technology, comfort, storage capacity, it's all fantastic. But the engine and sensors are absolutely terrible. I've had 4 different sensors replaced, had one of the steering wheel button panels replaced, the back fin almost fell off, and they were even talking about having to replace the entire transmission because it shakes so badly when going from idling to driving. It also sometimes takes a few seconds to go after I press on the gas. Also, right after I bought it, the exhaust started smoking really badly. When I brought it back in, they said that the manufacturer hadn't done a pre-dealership inspection and someone had filled my oil way too high. I've never had to take any of my other cars back for repairs as much as this car. I had to take my old Chrysler Sebring in once for a repair after I'd had it for over 8 years but this car has already been back at least 6 times in 2 1/2 years. I finally filed a lemon law claim because the issues are not normal for a brand new car bought right off the lot. Again, I'm so sad that this car has such a terrible engine and sensors because it's so beautiful and can hold a ton of cargo for being a compact SUV. But I just can't drive it and feel safe doing so.

Not Bad, But Not Good

Todd, 02/07/2018

We bought this car new. While we have not had the major transmission problems that other reviews show, we have had multiple smaller issues. The 'check engine' light comes on repeatedly, and it has always been a code related to fuel vapor recovery. First few times this happened, the dealership insisted that it was due to improperly replacing the gas cap after filling up. The crazy thing is that the fuel cap on this car has a hard stop, and you can only turn it so far. After multiple trips to the dealership for the check engine light and they finally got a different code that pointed to a vapor recovery canister. They had to pull the fuel tank to replace this canister. We still get the check engine light, with the same code. It is maddening because this is primarily my wife's car and every time the check engine light comes on, it's another trip to the shop just to be sure. This has happened probably fifteen or more times in the two years we have had this car. I finally bought a code reader to check it myself. We also had to have the drivers side air bag replaced, after getting a problem light/code on it. Most recently the right rear door latch simply quit working. They had to tear into the door and replace the latching mechanism. So far, everything has been covered under warranty, but that won't last forever. I plan to trade it in on something else. I am sure we will take a loss on it. This was our first Hyundai, and most likely it will be our last.

I have always leased my cars, but I decided - unfortunately - to purchase the 2016 Tucson because of all of the features in the vehicle. Within the first month of owning the car, the moonroof needed to be replaced and the transmission needed to be updated. Still... the car is hesitant (which is a load of fun when trying to merge onto the Long Island Expressway), jerky, and often seems like it will stall out. Sometimes I floor the gas pedal and the car still goes no.place.at.all. I've been back and forth to the dealer. I've been in contact with corporate. I tried to have the car transferred to a lease so I could get out of the thing. No luck. Hyundai insists that this is normal, though the mechanic at the dealership told me that there are so many complaints and he felt the same issue I described. So, I'm stuck with the car from hell...

This is my first and last Hyundai purchase. I went all out and purchased a new 2016 LTD Tuscon and within the first 5 mths/4,000 miles, it needed a new engine. It was at the dealer -Tustin Hyundai for 2 months because the engine was on "back-order". I had to call them every week to find out the status because I would not get a call otherwise. 6 Months later the air conditioning stopped cooling when the car was idle. Took it back to same dealer and they said air was fine but as a "courtesy" they would flush it out, basically they were saying I was imagining things. Well, a month later, air was completely out and needed a new air compressor. Mind you, the car is about a year old at this point only 9,000 miles and has already had a a new engine and a new air compressor. Today, it is back at the dealer again, 14,000 miles with a loud noise coming from the engine. This car is clearly a lemon and Hyundai should have replaced it in the first 5 months. I was told by a manager in the service dept today that I had an attitude because I was venting about my car. They are lucky that all I did was vent. I did not use profanity.....I am allowed to say how I feel. I have spent hours in their waiting room, on the phone, at Enterprise rent a car and I have been treated like poorly. I will now make sure everyone I know hears about my experience with this car and how I was treated by this dealership. Having a piece of crap car and paying thousands of dollars for it is bad enough, you shouldn't be slapped in the face by their employee's too.

We have taken this vehicle in 4 TIMES for a recall.. It's NEVER FIXED! When you accelerate, it's so jerky you almost get whiplash. Complete disaster of a purchase. I've punched it to get across a busy street, only for it to stall!!! Also, the electrical part of this car is horrible. Sometimes I have to pull over on the interstate, turn the car OFF AND ON again to get the AC to blow cold air.

This is a piece of garbage and I tried to leverage lemon law, but it would cost me. The engine shakes and acceleration stops. Dealer said to put it in sport mode after firmware update. Still driving very bad. Zero stars for review and Hyundai financial is no help.

Not the dual clutch transmission I had in my VW CC

The dual clutch transmission in the Hyundai Tucson is a piece of junk. I've had 2 VW CC's and their dual clutch transmission worked flawlessly. The nightmare of a transmission in the Hyundai is unsafe at any speed. Sometimes you can't get the car to move, prompting horns to honk when the light turn s green. Other times it leaves the line like a dragster as the tires spin and I'm shot off like a rocket. I've read the other reviews and this car is not safe to be on the road. If Hyundai can't fix the issue, they should buy the car back. I'm not one to depend on the Federal Government for anything except more problems, but in this case the NHTSA needs to step in and help the consumer.

This vehicle has more problems and recalls than anything I do not feel safe again in in my vehicle and driving dealing with route 60 Hyundai and euro beach is also terrible

Hello, its my four year since purchasing my Hyundai Tucson and I would like to add this isn’t my first zero miles Hyundai I also purchased a brand Hyundai Elantra 2012. In both vehicle the interior was cheaply made and experience break downs. For example the volume and radio station programming knobs is made with a silver trim and over time the trim fades away and looks bad over time. The vehicle also has poorly made knobs for air conditioner vent adjustment. Both new Hyundai’s I bought the same thing happen the knobs fall off and eventually you have to replace. The windows of the Hyundai Tucson’s are made with a pulley system that’s made of plastic when my windows stopped working both windows in front of car I opened the door panel to be shocked to see the plastic gear ⚙️ that’s connected to a metal anchor that pushes the window up and down was stripped and look like grated cheese, cheaply and poorly made they don’t sell the gear ⚙️ by Itself either they want you to buy the whole door panel that comes with many more parts that didn’t need replacing at all $269 fix per window. The tires the vehicle came with I had to replace those almost immediately. I also had water pump failure that caused over heating of the vehicle at 30,000, Hyundai replace the pump but put 300 miles on my vehicle to diagnosis the problem at the dealership. Engine control module failure the computer had to be changed at 50,000 miles.
