Since we have had this car the only problem has been with the power brakes. The car is fun and comfortable to drive and has enough bells and whistles to satisfy any techno nerd. It's quiet to operate on the freeway at speed and has enough power to get up to speed quickly. Update- we now have 96000 miles on it and it continues to be a very comfortable and reliable car, still give it 5 stars.

Fourth Brand New Hyundai in Three Years

In 2012 I bought my first Sonata after driving a friends. I always owned used luxury cars and as I got older wanted my first brand new car but I wanted value since new cars depreciate quickly. I hated my first Sonata. It was basic, boring, and not me. I then bought a 2013 Santa Fe six months later and LOVED it. After a year though I missed having a sunroof and in 2014 bought the Sonata 2.0T and absolutely adored this car. Then15 months later I found myself sitting in the 2015 Sonata and asking myself, "is this really a Hyundai"?. The interior design is beautiful and gives the illusion of a much more expensive car. The seats are extremely supportive and comfortable. The cabin is 100% quieter than previous Sonatas and the build quality is solid. I know Hyundai made improvements to the suspension and the ride quality feels as though you are floating, this good because it's very luxurious, bad because you do not know how fast you're going. Blind spot detection system is really great and the visibility is vastly improved over the previous model. I bought the sport model with premium package because I did not want to spend allot especially if I'm going to trade it in as I have done with the past three cars. I'm kicking myself for not getting the tech package or buying the limited for the panoramic roof. I actually see owning this car for quite a few years. I absolutely love it and I haven't felt this way about a car since my Saab 9-5. My only complaint, the speakers for the audio system suck. I'll buy new ones in a few.

Burns oil and sludge buildup

Mike, 01/16/2022

I have a 2015 Sonata 2.4 liter engine with about 140,000 miles. Starting at around 80,000 miles I have to add a quart of full synthetic oil every 800 miles. Also there is a sludge problem which requires a sludge removal treatment about every 6 months. The engine runs well and the motor oil is a lot cheaper than buying another car.

The worst Car, never buy a Hyundai Sotanta

I bought a Hyundai Sonata sport 2.0T. After it reached 110.000, the engine had a problem with OIL CONSUMPTION; I purchased an Extended Warranty with a PROTECTION PORTFOLIO (Never buy this insurance, but it does cover nothing in the end), and they said that it was a manufacturing problem from Hyundai. Still, Hyundai washes its hands and declines, saying it is out of warranty. At this point, no one responded. I have to buy a new engine that is over $9.000. I would never recommend this brand, mainly because after 100.000 miles, you will need a new machine, and no one will respond; at that time, the coverage will end, and even if you buy an extended warranty, it will not cover.

My family has always bought Hondas or Toyotas, but we don't really care for CVT transmissions. We decided to check out the 2015 Sonata just as a backup option, but we were very impressed. It doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it is just such a good car overall that we purchased two of them: one for me and one for my father. It isn't fast, but it has enough power. The ride isn't soft, but it isn't rough or harsh. It doesn't get hybrid mpg's, but I average over 32 mpg with almost no highway driving. The interior styling won't win any awards, but it is very easy and intuitive...and spacious. Overall, a well built machine. Quite pleased with our decision.

Terrific blending of style, comfort, reliability, and economic performance. Having owned everything from Toyotas and Mustangs to Jaguars and Cadillacs, this mid-sized sedan meets my current needs with flare and driving fun. Plenty of power to merge, pull up the Rocky Mountains, or lay down miles across the wide open spaces of Nevada. Change the oil, occasionally service, gas it up and watch it keep going!

I have had this 2015 sport 2.0 limited car for almost 3 years and 45,000 miles. I have had no problems. It's such a nice looking car actually the nicest looking car I've ever had. I've thought about getting some other type of car after my lease ends but I don't know if I can find something as flashy as my car is.

I have had no trouble with my car whatsoever. I am going to trade it in because I have a need for an suv. I would continue to keep my car if my needs were the same. It is still under warranty and has served me well. It was a great car but I traded it in on Memorial day for a Honda CRV. I wanted an SUV. I had no regrets owning the Sonata. I now do love my CRV.

Best affordable car ever!

The car looks nice. Is affordable. Awesome MPG. Very spacious. Easy to maintain. Barely gave me any problems. I put 84k miles on mine and the only problem I experienced was electrical one. The rear roof light turned off by itself. At first I thought it was the light bulb but after I replaced it I realized it was an electrical problem. I must say the mayor downside of this car is the handling. Loses a bit of stability during rain, and is absolutely horrible against snow. I crashed and my wife crashed as well during the winter, the crash weren't fatal because we didn't drive fast at the time but it is still dangerous. One thing I personally don't like is the sound of the muffler but thats my opinion. The vinyl seats get dirty and stained fairly easy so leather seat would be my recommendation.

Love My Certified 2015 Sonata SE Plus

Update after a few months: I find that this Sonata is a great car. Solid reliability and great fuel economy mixed with a decent ride and acceptable performance. Couldn’t ask for anything more for a daily driver. Averaging 25-26 mpg in mostly city traffic and 34-35 mpg on highway trips. If this car continues to deliver like this, I’ll definitely look at buying another Sonata or Hyundai product when it comes time to replace it. My engine blew with 120k miles on my 2013 Ford Fusion (2.0L Ecoboost) and my son had purchased a 2014 Sonata and loved it, so I looked at the Sonata. Found the 2015 Sonata and got a great deal. So far the car has been flawless and has been way more comfortable and fuel efficient than the Fusion. Such a great value for the money and I will definitely be back when I need another vehicle.

Sonata was a great vehicle. Never any service issues. Only issue is depreciation is awful. Buy one a couple years old with low mileage. Hyundais/Kias are top quality, but you need to factor in you will lose your shirt on resale. They don't hold value like Honda and Toyota. Only issue i had is drivers seat belt stopped recoiling. Pain in the neck but over a $200 repair so I just lived with it.

Do not buy this car

I had a 2006 Hyundai Sonata which was a great car, so I bought another Sonata. It's nowhere near as comfortable. The front seats are extremely uncomfortable because of a seam that presses into the back of the legs, sides that angle up (fine if you're VERY, VERY skinny) and is deeper than is comfortable from front to back. The design of the seats also make it more difficult to get in and out of the car. The rear of the car slants down which makes it "sexier" looking, but is impractical. The trunk is large, but because of the slant of the rear window, the opening for the trunk makes it difficult to get anything of size into it. The rear seats fold down, but the release to fold them is in the trunk instead of the back window ledge - a very inconvenient feature. The steering wheel is smaller than a standard size which made it hard to find a cover for it (needed for hot summers). The steering wheel also has controls so The Club doesn't fit easily. It does NOT have a spare tire - just a "fix-a-flat" kit which is worthless for a blow-out. When the ignition is turned off, all 4 doors unlock which I consider very dangerous. It's difficult to put on and take off the front seat belts because the latch is very low between the seat and the console. I'm sorry I bought the car.

You have to remove 14 bolts to remove the splash guard under the car to change the oil. It took me 1-1/2 hour to change the oil that would normally takes 20 minutes. Hyundai did not give me a satisfactory answer when I suggested to add a trap door under drain plug and filter for easy access. I would have purchased a Camry for the same amount had I known this.

I will never buy another Hyundai Sonata. I bought my 2015 in September 2018 with 29,000 miles. In December 2018 with 37000 miles my pistol blew a whole in the bottom of my engine. Hyundai replaced everything because I was still under warranty. February 2020 my car started making a pinging noise so I took it into Hyundai, they tried saying it’s because I use unleaded instead of premium gas and wanted me to pay $150 to flush my fuel intake system. I tried using premium for 4 months and it made no difference. It’s made a pinging noise ever since. Then my car broke down on the side of the highway with the check engine light on in May 2021 and went into limp mode. Took it to my boyfriend who is a mechanic and my car was almost completely out of oil. Apparently these vehicles are known for burning oil like crazy without you knowing until they break down. I have to put atleast a quart of oil in every week if I don’t want to run out of engine oil. If my boyfriend weren’t a mechanic and could fix all of my issues with this car I would be so far under it with all the things I’ve had to fix.

This vehicle was my 1st brand new vehicle. I've had it about 5 months and I'm okay with it, but wish it was a Honda. The Dimension speakers can't handle any bass and the speakers rattle which is terrible. Also, the 5 inch screen isn't capable of that new Andriod auto feature. The 5 inch screen is also very dated and not modern at all. If I could repurchase, I'd select an upgraded model since I'm very tech savvy. Otherwise, the car gets great gas mileage, has a very sporty exterior and is backed with a grear warranty

I have the one with orange seat piping, on Sunday it will be 4 weeks of sheer awful. The ride is so stiff that after 49 minutes my back start hurting. After 2 hrs it's not good, go four hours and I can't walk upright for a day and in pain for another two and stiff. I have never in my life had a back problem only in this car. The interior looks like a 90's Pontiac Grand Prix so I'm sure most pedestrian amuricans will like it. The exteriors look good except the creases cause hwy wind buffeting like a Yaris, I utterly hate it and I'm trading it in, the cars not worth 20k in the top line let alone 34 msrp.

I decided to upgrade my 2012 Eco Hyundai Sonata to a fully loaded 2015 Hyundai Sonata. Although I could afford a luxury car any day, I'm happy with Hyundai so I'll stick with the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I love the car so far. Its smooth, quiet, and I'm not picky. As long as I can drive to the commuter lot for my job and travel, then I'm ok. Its a plus that I have the panoramic sunroof and heating and cooling seats. Thank goodness that my boyfriend is a car enthusiast, otherwise, I would not have known that I had these features. Overall, this was a graduation gift to myself, I recently received my Masters' Degree, so I"m happy with it.

I purchased this car pre owned at around 100,000 miles, instantly I fell in love with it as the limited trim offered a panoramic sunroof, heated/cooled leather seats, and more. Anyways after like 2 months the engine locked up out of no where. Initially the dealership I bought it from (Auto Nation Hyundai) tried to give me the run around, but ended up completely replacing the engine and computer free of charge. The full process took about a month & they did compensate w a loaner vehicle for the time my car was in the shop. I've had it back for a few days now and it's driving well but I can't help but feel some kind of way ab it. Hopefully this one lasts. But what really sucks is that they are selling the cars to ppl still knowing there's an active recall after 100k . They are having to replace hundreds of engines and, while they are doing that at certified dealerships, be careful. They may not honor the manufacturer warranty

I love this car. I am really small and most cars are built for a bigger person. I am comortable driving this car. The engine failed in 2022 when I was driving those hills in Cottonwood, Arizona. I got it towed to the dealership and they replaced the engine at no cost because it was covered under some recall. It was the best experience having to deal with a dealership. I got my car back in two weeks. I gave it four stars because the engine was recalled and did die on me during a road trip out of state. But getting it fixed was a pleasant experience.

Hole in engine

At 120K miles we took our car in for what we thought was a small oil leak. After looking at the engine the techs said the connecting rod had blown a hole through the side of our engine and we needed to replace the entire engine! I looked into it further and Hyundai has a huge issue with malfunctioning engines (wish I would have paid more attention to this). They insulated themselves by issuing the 966 recall that requires YOU to get the computer system updated before you are eligible for an extended warranty and any help from Hyundai covering the cost of the failed engine. Even if you have taken that step I understand from other consumers that it is a royal pain to get help. So, Hyundai knows the engines are faulty and they are hoping that you won't take the time and hassle of jumping through the hoops to hold them accountable.

If you ae in the market for a quality mid-sized sedan, then this car should be at the top of the list. I just purchased my Sonata yesterday, & I was pleasantly impressed. The car, when I got in it, had a very good quality feel. It didn't seem to be cheap, & the tech package was impressive. But what blew me away is the way the car drove & handled. After the test drive I hardly believed it was a 4 cyl car; @ 185 hrs pwr you have enough to get the job done - if you need more then of course you'll foot the bill for that, but I don't find it necessary unless you plan to go street racing. The mix of fuel economy, elegant design, & appointments make this car really competitive against choices like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Kia Optima, Nissan Maxima, etc., but checks in way below the belt pricewise of them all. To me the this is the most bang for your buck.

I have had a total of 5 Hyundais now (4 Sonata Limited, and 1 Genesis). I've owned BMW 5 series, and a Mercedes 500 SL (both nice cars), but Hyundai is by far the best bang for your money you can get. My only negative of the '15 Sonata is they didn't offer a v6 in it. Everything else is great. On a side note, my fully loaded '15 Genesis is a better car than either the BMW 5 series or Mercedes E series. The question I get most often when people see my Genesis? "What kind of car is that? A Bentley?"

Tried all kinds of sedans, and the Sonata had the most features and space for the price. My husband is 6' 3", so having head and legroom for him was a must. The only feature I wish it had is auto on/off headlights. My last car had that, so I left the lights on by accident a couple times.

The “Gliding Car”

If you like smooth driving, comfortable seats, and a stylish profile, then this Sonata is for you! I liked this car for its technology and comfort. I had 46,000. Miles on it and had no mechanical issues at all. I purchased this vehicle after my Mazda 3 hatchback was totaled by a deer. I love the way Mazda’s drive, so this car always felt too big and certainly was not as much fun to drive. I think this sedan is perfect for seniors looking for its best qualities. I now would not want a car without bind spot assist, adaptive cruise control, and rear cameras. They are invaluable for anyone who has been is a car accident with a deer. As for the gliding, this car smoothly coasts down hills and if you appreciate that quality, you will enjoy this car.

Disapointing. The vehicle had a blown engine at 76,000 miles. The check oil light came on and then the engine started knocking. Ultimately Hyundai did replace the engine. However going thru the experience was brutal. Hyundai did provide me with a rental car however initially I had a car at my expense. Also after the engine was replaced the vehicle starting stalling after 1 week. It went back to the dealer and amazingly I was told despite the new engine the repair would be done at my expense. Ultimately I only paid labor but was told that I might need a new wiring harness which they would not cover. SO basically new engine with old existing parts reconnected. My expectation on a vehicle is 200,000 miles and we have achieved this with a Chevy Tahoe, and gotten close with Toyota/Lexus vehicles which our family are still driving. I am reserving judgement now on this vehicle. My opinion will be contingent on the next 100,000 miles.

I just bought mine maybe 2 weeks ago! This is my 3rd Hyundai. Very happy with the brand. It's a midsize car, roomy interior, with the gas mileage of a compact car. Awesome! They give you alot for a base model. The only thing I did not like is the stereo. It's VERY LOW wattage and low sound. I didn't realize that other models had an upgraded sound system. Disappointing, since I like loud sound and bass! Other than that, I'm happy!
