I have had the car for four years now , it has 87k miles on it and still runs like new. I have had no major mechanical issues. I have had to put new tires on it. It has been a real good car.

137,000 miles. Other than Basic maintenance no problems! The 2015 SE version of this car is an amazing value with distinct character that got lost in the yearly updates. Space is abundant, led drl, low drivers seating position, BMW like interior and feel. If your interested in this car get the 2015 se version. It's the cheapest model and it's highly customizable not having all the extra tech. BTW mags say this car is slow but it's not, put it in sport and it will easily pass other cars.

A bit of a let down

2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

I did a good deal of research before I purchased this vehicle. I purchased a Certified 2015 Sonata Sport. In all of the reviews that I have read, it was nothing but the ideal everyday car. I absolutely love the way this car looks, but how it drives is just not great.I feel that it struggles to shift between the lower gears and kind of jerks once it shifts. Once you get up to at least 50mph, there are no issues with shifting and it is smooth. I also feel that the brakes are a bit underwhelming and I feel like I always have to push hard to slow the car down. After having this car for three months and with 59k miles on it, my check engine light starts blinking while I'm on the interstate going 80. Car is sluggish while getting off and I bring it to the closest dealership. They tell me they have to replace the engine because there was an issue with the crankshaft. So much for a certified car. I get between 24-25mpg city and 32-22hwy. Another small annoyance was when the lights were set to auto and I would soft signal to change lanes, my lights would flash. Not horrible, just annoying because it seemed as if I was flashing cars in front of me or oncoming. I just keep them manual and no issue. I feel like this model and year are hit or miss.

Coming from a 2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited, I couldn't be more thrilled with the Sonata! Purchased in July 2014 and I nearly have ten thousand miles on it. This car is absolutely gorgeous. Very comfortable, especially for long drives or sitting in traffic. The audio system is awesome with the Pandora connect and the XM radio. The heating system is great, and the heated and cooled seats are the best! Heated steering wheel has been a plus in this cold New England winters! Plenty of room throughout the whole car, including the trunk. I get countless compliments on this car, and people always tells me it looks like I'm driving a BMW. Very stylish and dependable. LOVE this car!

A Major Change!

I'm slightly biased, I lived in Korea for 12 years; and I have purchased Four (4) Hyundai Products previously. Hence I have known them to be good, solid, reliable vehicles. I traded In my 2014 Kia for the SONATA SPORT. Sitting in my driveway is a 2003 KIA OPTIMA, 88,000 miles and last year, we had to have left half shaft replaced and that's it. I normally drive a Cadillac DTS; my first was in 1973, Coupe De Ville. Hence I have grown accustomed to driving a great riding luxury car with all the bells and whistles. There is truth in that saying' Rides like a Cadillac. I know that the Hyundai is reliable, and a great value, BUT I was totally stunned when I test drove the SPORT Model. Additionally, I've always had more than two cars, and one would always be a Performance Model; Corvette, Z28, Trans Am, Cadillac CTS-V type vehicles. As I initially drove into the traffic I was impressed at it's ease to get into traffic on a Six Lane Major Road. I am NOT a fan of the Four Cylinder Engines, the sound I don't like. But I did not know at that moment that IT was a Four, I felt what seemed to be the V6 type thrust. As I merged onto I65, there is a major intersection; the on ramp and the two lane exit ramp coincide, people coming to the right, and you must cross two lanes to get into the 3 Lane main road. It is a hard trick as the Speed limit is 70 and most folks are truly running 75 MPH, so you have to have acceleration to pull away from the oncoming cars are you traverse 3 or 4 lanes of traffic. I'm Used to a V8 pulling me across this intersection. I was in Normal Mode, and at first it seemed that I was not accelerating, but I then noticed that I was going 70 and pulling away from the traffic. I was going to the far left lane and was going to lock down the speed at 75. I looked down and I WAS GOING 85 MPH! I had been fooled by the silence of the car! For a few minutes I let it run at 80 MPH and intentionally, I had left the Audio off and this was to listen for any odd things. I was stunned at the quietness of this car. I say, damn, this thing rides as good as a Cadillac!! Then I discovered that the Cruise Control works very uniquely by keeping the speed pretty close GOING DOWN HILL! One of my pet peeves is when you go over a hill, hit the brakes, then you have to re-engage the system or it will be definitely speeding. I'm a fairly large man, 6'0", 235 lbs. My comfort test is I get in, get comfortable seat placement for me; I'm paying for it, right? Then I get out and get into the rear seat and see what that comfort level is. I got in back and was totally stunned at the knee room. What totally blew me away was the passenger lowered the back rest very far back while I was sitting in the rear. The rear passenger still had great knee room AND on my side, I had a good Four inches between my knee caps and the seat!! To be honest, more room than a DTS in knee room, and Great for Two Passengers, ONLY! But those two get a fantastic place to ride. On the way back from our 75 mile trip, I put it into ECO and my onboard system began at 29 MPG as were returning but about 20 Miles later it was reading 40 MPG! I took that figure with a mild grain of salt, as the algorithms for mileage calculation is not always the true MPG. But even if it was ONLY getting 35 MPG, I was impressed by the solid and quality build properties of this vehicle. When You slam the trunk down, you get a nice solid chunk. Same with the Doors. I also purchased several additional programs that basically provide me with Seven Years and 70,000 Miles of Bumper to Bumper, what ever happens it gets fixed, free oil changes, tire rotations and more that includes all the High Tech Items!! I believe that the ONLY thing I must do is put GAS in it, and enjoy driving it, and so far, this has been a ball of a car! Thumbs up to the Hyundai Corporation for listening and continually attempting to improve the product in many ways to create a great vehicle. AND I was very delighted with the OWNERS Manual. Small, easy to use and simple. A GM Owners Manual is about one inch thick and is confusing at best; IF you car is equipped with this option... I don't know if it has the Bingo Banga Torque Splitting Auto 7 speed or the 9 speed?? Very Good!! I also found that the Mode Settings actually have some effect as desired. Many vehicles will list great sounding Accessories, but Like the BMW, you can't use the system very well without taking eyes off road. Does it Work? I pretty much used intutive knowledge to operate a lot of stuff prior to reading the manual to find out even more technological features, Hill Hold, KOOL!! OH, and one of the BEST FEATURES of this vehicles is ITS GREAT LOOKING!!

Since I bought the car a Hyundai certified 2015 Hyundai Sonata with approximately 25k miles. I had several issues, after just a week of owning the car the driver side mirror trim started showing discoloration, it was black and shinny when I bought the car. The first time I took the car on the highway, I felt a slight shaking on the steering wheel, took it the dealership to have the wheel balance check and I was told by the manager that they couldn’t do nothing about it since it is not part of the warranty (when I asked the manager if they check the wheel balance on the certification inspection he said he didn’t know), the service clerk went to speak with my sales person to see if the sales dept. would cover the cost of the wheel balancing job, however, per the service clerk ( the sales rep never came out to talk to me) they declined covering the service request. On my first interior cleaning, I noticed that the driver seat had a hole on the left side support, also the leather dye faded out and I can see the foam underneath and the right rear passenger seat leather was coming out of the headrest cover, I contacted Hyundai USA and their advice was to take it to the dealer for evaluation, at the dealer the service clerk said that the hole and fading was under warranty and they’ll fix it but I had to leave the car at the dealership for at least a day, when I asked if I could have a loaner car for the day, he said that they didn’t offer any loaners, so I decided to wait for an opportunity in which I didn’t need the car to leave it. Now on a trip to Orlando with my family, the shark fin antenna came out the antenna base on the highway, I presume. I contacted Hyundai USA and I got the same answer as before, take it to the dealer for evaluation, the antenna is only cover for 3 years or 36k miles, of course I was out of warranty. At the dealer, the service rep didn’t even look at it, she said that it is a common issue, but it is not a defect???? and that I was out of warranty, while there I asked when I the upholstery technician was going to be onsite to leave my car and she said that I was out of warranty on my car seat as well. Overall, don’t believe the dealership certification inspection, I bought the car confident that I wasn’t going to encounter any issues with the car, but I was completely wrong, the inspection is just a gimmick to charge more for a car and/or cover defects to trick the costumer into buying a car that looks a lot better at the dealer and while Hyundai offer 10 years/100k miles warranty on the engine and transmission everything else that seems to fall apart only have a 3 year/36k warranty, the car rides nice and its very spacious but the overall quality of the car is sub par to other brands.

I've had the car for a little longer than a year with almost 6,500 mi. It's my first Hyundai and I'm generally impressed with the overall build quality and performance of the car. Because of it's quietness and solid road feel, it makes a great trip car. The seat support is very good and the dash arrangement is logical which makes it easy to use while driving. The roomy back seat is comfortable for 3 adults and the oversized trunk is well laid out, great for grocery getting and large suit cases. A few miner complains though; (1) Exhaust note, needs to be refined, doesn't sound all that great. (2) Holds first gear a little too long when accelerating even in sport mode. Overall, I really do like the car. The outside styling is very nice and the ride is firm and takes most bumps and dips in the road with a secured refinement. I just couldn't give it a perfect 5 stars. Sorry, I'm picky!

I purchased this car after a major exploration project starting with the successes of Hyundai's new engineers and this sophisticated beauty. It screams of value, value and yes, more value. Thanks to Audi for allowing Hyundai to hire some amazing engineers....!!! Just look at the crazy safety features like the rear cross traffic alert and then the pixilation on the backup camera is second to none...hands down. Then combined with the best warranty in America, and the new multi-link suspension - it is a CHAMP!!!

After considering Accord, Camry, Fusion, Altima and Mazda 6, I chose Sonata ECO. This is my first Hyundai purchase, and boy Hyundai came a long way. It's up there with Honda and Toyota now - Hyundai is better than many Japanese and American brands, when it comes to FWD sedans. MPG - I can put this car in "SPORT" mode and floor the gas pedal all I want and still get 30MPG. Using cruise control at 80MPH, I can get 34MPG all day long. With little light footwork and drive conservatively, I hit 40MPG regularly. I measured 0-60 myself, and consistently get under 7 sec. This is a new model so I can't speak for reliability, but hyundai reliability is up there among the best.

Bought brand new 2015 Sonota 2.0 Sport. Car seemed nice and choose it over a Camry. Summer of 2019 engine blew. Found out had recall from cars made in Alabama. Hyundai did put new engine in but would not pay for tow. Also, dealership charged $200 for an aftermarket starter they said had to be changed out. Hyundai would not pay for starter even though I had no issues ever with the starter until the engine blew. Not even sure if the starter was bad or just got ripped off by local dealer. BOTH the local dealer and Hyundai Corp was very difficult to work with. Terrible communication. Ignored most of the time. I will never buy another new Hyundai. Maybe used but never new. Toyota, please forgive me for my mistake in 2015, I will never go with Hyundai ever again! P.S. car itself still an decent ride.

I traded in my 2014 Sonata Limited 2.0 for a fully loaded 2015 Sonata Sport Ultimate 2.0 in January. I have regretted this purchase within a week of purchasing this car. Pros: solid acceleration, roomy, beautiful Orange color, fairly priced Cons: the panaramic sunroof has rattled since the 3rd day of purchase, Hyundai isn't sure how to fix it. My Antenna had to be replaced due to my GPS not working properly and not my blue link app won't connect to my car. The engine sounds like it is a diesel, it is loud and shakes violently from time to time, all of which I was told his normal. They blame it on the high pressure fuel pump. The road noise is louder then advertised. Now my keyfob won't lock my car. I wanted to love this car, I really loved my 2014 but I wanted the Orange sport model.

Black leather driver seat backrest wears off.

We bought this car new with 1700 miles on It. At 2000 miles the leather on the drivers seat backrest was worn off and was white. Cheap material! The dealership looked at it and said that there had to be something wrong with the material and ordered a new seat cover. It came in and they had the upholstery guy install it. The car now has 5300 miles and the seat is doing the same thing. Contacted the dealership and they said "To bad we replaced it once." Filed a case with Hyundai America and after more than a month, a few ugly phone calls and a lot of emails they told us the same thing and that it was the way we got in and out of the car. They said we slid our butts getting in and out! Really? We needed to put the seat all the way back, get in and put the seat back up. If anyone in the world can get in and out of a car without sliding there butt on some part of the seat I will kiss that butt! I am in the process of trying to trade the car. I am 65 and was hoping this would be my retirement car. DO NOT buy a Hyundai with black leather!!

I fell in love with my car from day 1. Bought it used about 7 months ago, and it has been simply amazing. I cant help but smiling at it as i walk by it to get in, and i’m always a bit sad when i have to get out of it at my destination. I have a GLS model, not too basic, but not loaded up either, but it’s still got everything i need. I have my heated seats, and a bluetooth stereo, something i did not have coming out of a 1998 SUV. When i first drove it i was impressed by how very smooth it was, and how quiet it was. The engine didnt sound like it was going to explode at only 2500rpm, and it actually accelerated off the line at a reasonable speed and didnt take a year to get to highway speed. I convinced the dealership to let me take it home for a weekend to really try it out and see how well it would work, and yes, i really liked it, so i signed off on it, and brought it home. The fuel economy staggered me then and still staggers me today. I’ve gotten almost 900km out of a single tank of gas which is over twice as far as my old car. Having the Bluetooth is amazing especially when the radio plays music that i dont particularly like. The seats are plenty comfy i’ve made plenty happy road trips without my backside hurting too much. The styling of the car is very sharp indeed and definitely stands out from other brands of the time and still looks modern today. Visibility is also decent although i find that the trunk is a little too tall and blocks some rearward visibility. Other than that side and front visibility is really good. My only problems with the car are likely only me specific ones, such as electrical gremlins. My car does have a slight turn signal/headlight issue. And my right rear door handle is broken. Door opens, but if you pull it the wrong way it falls apart. I’ve had many good laughs watching my friend’s reaction to them “breaking” my door handle. Other than that it is a solid car, no squeaks, rattles or bangs, excellent fuel economy, atomic power from a 4-pot engine and a very well laid out interior with many nice features. 10/10

My car is suppose to get 23/32 MPG but no matter how I drive, Eco, Normal or Sport, baby driving...coasting to red lights in city and doing 75 hwy, I consistently come in 4 MPG less both city & hwy. I have tested the computer read by the old fashioned way of spending down the fuel and then filling back up, tracking the mileage. I have done Octane additives at the suggestion of the Hyundai service advisor. I took in to get the car's computer system checked. They just want to blow it off as did the Hyundai America customer service. When I read reviews on the Turbo 2.0 Sport limited, I see every so often drivers mentioning their mileage at what I am suppose to get yet am not. I figure at $2.50 per gallon this will cost me about $300 a year! Not happy and not done complaining. Now, for the rest of the car, it is awesome for the money. I have used numerous times all the tech stuff on this Ultimate package that comes on the Sport Turbo limited. Very impressive. I hear complaints on the pick up but I am telling you that if you throw into tiptronic, you will fly! The smart car technology on cruise is awesome, cross traffic control is incredible, back up cam with sonar, excellent, BSD and BSD oncoming warning is spot on, forward crash avoidance works like advertised!

I've owned 4 hyundais now. 1 2003 Accent, 1 2005 Elantra and 2 Sonatas (2010 and 2015). The first car was a lemon that I bought in Fall River, MA... Empire Hyundai... and I had to fight with the dealership hard because it needed the same repair over and over again. I got an elantra as a substitute and that car was fantastic. No complaints. in between 2005 and 2010 i owned many used and mostly new cars. I decided to get back into Hyundai again so I got a base model sonata in Virginia. I should have never traded it in, it was great. Bought a Cadillac which was great but i was hitting 100k and driving 140 miles a day, the repairs were adding up. Went back to Fall River thinking that the same money hungry jerks weren't there, well they weren't... just a new set of them were. Somehow, they managed to add an addition 5-10k to the loan, running me in circles because i was asking the same question "I dont see the trade in value for the car" to which they consistently answered me back saying, "we paid the loan off, its here" that wasn't my question. I called a lawyer and finally found that they added some charge that i would have NEVER agreed on if they had asked me if I wanted the service... some how they got away with it. They wanted me to go back to the dealership to talk about it, i said no, i didn't want to be taken advantage of for a third time in 1 month (i had gone back two days later and resigned paperwork for lesser service fees etc... stupid... i was stupid...). So i'm already sour because I hate this dealership but I love the car, its awesome, adaptive cruise control was worth it. The idea of driving 140 miles a day with ACC was like the highlight of my life. Up until a week ago. I'm trying to get on the highway, i sped up (its on a slight hill) and the car starts to jolt. I've seen this before, i've felt this before in my first hyundai, the accent. My heart drops. Here we go again. I press my foot down on the gas hoping it will just go away and stop jolting... no. 2 miles away from the next exit I'm shaking like crazy and get to a stop light. Turn the engine off and turn it back on... now its shaking worse and not only that i can barely accelerate. Ok good now we're going but we're still shaking and jolting every which direction. I some how make it to work even though some idiot in front of me is stopping in places they shouldnt stop in the road (because why not, that WOULD happen). 2 hours later I tell myself i'm not going to let this sit i'm going to go to the dealership. I call and make an appointment. OK be right there. Get in the car, turn it on in hopes the shaking is still there but not there at the same time ... the check engine light comes. good grief. the nav display asks if i need help i said heck yes please. i get connected to hyundai assistance and within 3 minutes into the call, the car engine shuts off but the battery is still going so i can communicate to the guy. I get towed away for free. What a monday. I get to the dealership around 5:30 after waiting for 3 hours for a tow. I'm tired, I haven't eaten and I just want to eat, go home and pass out. I get to the dealership and they say to me oh, the last shuttle left for the day but you can always call an uber. What is wrong with you? I just bought this car July 7th, 2015 and it only has 25k and you want ME to pay for an uber? I don't even know where the hell I am. I'm from southern MA not northwest of boston. He sends me to the waiting room. 20 minutes later, "has anyone replied back to pick you up?" i bite my tongue trying to be nice, "no, i'm not from here, everyone is about 2-3 hours away". "oh." yeah, oh. I walk out without anyone seeing me and go to chilis next door and vent. My friends come and pick me up and drop me off at home. I call the next day. "Can I have a rental" "Well we can hook you up with a 55 dollar a day rental from enterprise" "look, I didnt cause this issue, I didn't get into an accident, I did not ask my engine to jump around like a Mexican Jumping Bean in the chassis... I am NOT paying for a rental and I am NOT paying to use uber. I already have a daily expense for a car and its sittng in your garage. why would I want a second one...??" he said thats the best he can do. This started Monday, the call i just did happened tuesday. I didnt call Wednesday. I call yesterday asking for an update... well your cars engine is outside of the chassis, we asked for an overnight on the part we 'believe' will fix the problem but the part is back ordered nationally." are you kidding me? he offers this rental again for 35 dollars I said i wasnt paying a dime. Not one single dime for a problem i didnt create. The only problem i created was involving myself with hyundai. i'll never EVER buy another hyundai as long as I live. Never. Unfortunately before of the jerks I bought this car from added additional debt, I'll never get myself out of negative equity. ever. There is no ETA. I'm disgusted.

This car is beautiful on the outside. It will definitely get you noticed on the road.I got it a few weeks ago and was very excited about it. But not even a few days later my car developed turbo waste gate actuator rattle. This was a known problem in previous generation 2.0t and it wasn't redesigned or fixed. Hyundai just said that this is a normal characteristic of this car. If it rattles like a trash can, would it be normal? It sounds like a lose heat shield and you can hear it at acceleration and even at higher rpms. Deal wasn't able to do anything about it, so I am waiting until my next maintenance and see if it goes away. If not I will have them replace the whole waste gate/turbo.

This was a car that was in the shop a lot at first getting warranty work done and after three years of ownership it seemed to get better. We were aware of the GDI carbon build up problem on the valves and took preventative measures as well as having to add a quart of oil every three to four fill ups. Finally, on a road trip my wife was taking, the car without warning suddenly flashed the check engine light and went dead. After towing it 100+ miles to our local garage, it was diagnosed as having a 1632 code that meant it needed a new engine and/or electrical engine harness. The mechanic priced out both options and frankly told us to dump the car. We did just that, towed it to the dealership we were purchasing a Camry from and received $500 for our trade. This car was lightly driven and had only 78,000 miles on it. It was an expensive lesson on Hyundai quality, but one that will not be forgotten.

I got this car last week. Let me give you guys some feedbacks. Overall the car drives quite well for a 4-cylinder turbo. Noise level of engine and drive is somewhat in the mid range. My previous car was a 2012 Genesis and this 2015 Sonata is not better but doable. Cons: The car doors were not aligning correctly. Doors were a bit off from the quarter panels and rear passengers door. I was not able to open driver's side passenger the door. I have to pull the handle twice in order to open the door. Dealership had to take my car in for a day to fix these issues. I got the car on Friday and return to dealership for repairs on Monday, go figure.

I bought my Sonata with 37000 miles and it is currently at 100000 miles. The Sonata offers one of the best interior spaces compared to other comparable sedans. I would rank it next to the Camry and Accord for reliability. The car drives well and does everything you would need from a sedan. The first complaint I have is that the transmission started to have a hard 3-2 downshift around 47000 miles. Hyundai changed the whole automatic transmission under warranty at no cost. The next downside that can be avoided with proper maintenance is the carboning up of intake valves. I run a carbon cleaner through the PCV valve every year and I have no check engine lights or performance issues. I also change my oil with full synthetic Castrol oil and run a fuel cleaner every 5000 miles. The car burns about half a quart of oil every 2500 miles currently which I top off. I also change the cabin and engine air filters every 12000 miles. There is an issue with the stop lights burning very frequently. I would recommend doing an LED conversion. The car is still 99% capable of doing what it did when it was new.

I have had nothing but trouble with my Sonata 2.0T. I loved this car for the sporty look, panoramic ceiling and awesome features but I've been very disappointed in the reliability of the car. I've broken down twice due to fuel injectors going, the engine was replaced in 2022, the turbo was just replaced in 2023 and I've had a slew of other issues. This is definitely a lemon of a car for me. Would not recommend unless you want to be left without a car and in the shop constantly.

I am aware that many praise this car, but many don't tell the issues. Of course you already know about the engine problems. But there are actually more problems. There are also VCM problems, oil consumption problems, and more importantly the 2015-2016 cars had a faulty oil plug at the CVVT system which will damage the CVVT sensor which in turn will damage the timing chain. Hyundai is quoting between $1500 and up to $4000 repairs depending on the damage, and it usually happens out of warranty. Other problems, my hood struts failed after 5 years, the leather seats are hard on long drives, the panoramic sunroof has poor tint to block the sun heat and also the shade must be fully opened to open the glass even just a little : basically you will bake in the sun if you want to crack the glass open. There is limited headroom for 6ft drivers. The 17 inch low profile wheels are very harsh and you cannot install 16 inch wheels because the brakes are too big. The 17 inch Solus tires also become very noise early in life. The radar units are very sensitive to calibration error and extremely expensive to replace. The parking sensors have fragile brackets and cost $400/unit. Poor resale value. As you can see, Hyundai has still a rather long way to go. I would recommend going for the base model with 16 inch wheels.

We've owned this car and I wrote an initial review after looking at a mazda 3 and 6, ford taurus and a Genesis Sedan. After having this vehicle for over a year and being able to drive it daily and learn it's functions I can really say this car is a solid buy. Living in a freezer 7-8 months out of the year this thing has really performed with only very minor gripes about it and they really boil down to the way my kids treat this vehicle. EVERY function of the car still works with no broken knobs or funny noises and the car is still in "one piece". There is the normal wear and tear that any interior has but it's dealt with my family very well, with all aspects being able to hold up and stay clean. My 3 girls have a problem with keeping their feet off everything and as a result I have to constantly wipe down the interior and clean scuffs off the outside but these are things that life throws at you. Other than having the car serviced at regular intervals nothing mechanically has broken in the car to to have it repair and the dealer has always been courteous to us upon receiving the vehicle and we'll more than likely go through them when our lease is up to look into another vehicle. Gas mileage is still the same as when we bought it, with 27ish mpg's combined driving and premium fuel every time we fill. I have noticed the tires starting to split on the sidewall and will have this remedied through our dealer as it's covered under warranty. Overall if you're looking for a solid vehicle (even used) I'd look at one of these. Fully loaded you won't be disappointed as there are only a small number of models that supersede the Sonata within the brand.

Great 2015 Sonata 2.0T ltd edition.

I have 118,000 miles on my 2015 sonata 2.0T ltd edition. The car has been excellent for 7 years now. Only had an oil leak develop on the oil feed line leading to turbo, at about 103,000 miles. At 105,000 miles, the oil valve cover gasket started leaking and needed to be replaced-expected eventual maintenance. Battery needed replacing a little after 5 years. Replaced brake pads at 80,000 miles. Changed synthetic oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Changed the transmission fluid at 55,000 miles, afterwards, every 25,000 miles. Replaced the spark plugs at 97,000 miles, even though it still ran like a champ. Use BG44K fuel injector cleaner every so often. Don't pay attention to dealers saying transmission is sealed and no maintenance required. Not doing so will cause your transmission to go out significantly sooner. Change your synthetic oil every 5,000 miles, not 10,000 nor 15,000 miles, even though the oil is suppose to be good for longer durations. Engines will last much longer. I've heard horror stories of owners changing there synthetic oils religiously every 10,000 miles and needing an engine overhaul at 180,000 miles. Simply change engine oil every 5,000 miles and do periodic transmission fluid changes every 30,000 miles, if you want to increase chances of having trouble free use from your tranny.

Driving Pearl Baby

We have had this car a little over a year now. We bought a loaded, every bell and whistle available except the 2.0T engine. We purchased certified pre-owned in pearl white metallic. The car was sitting on the lot with a couple other Limited CPOs that were the same price but either ugly color or lacking all the extras. I have not had one day of troubles with this car. We went from an Elantra GT to this for the extra luxury. The visibility is way better, the ride smoother and we love all the extras that were not available to us in previous cars. The large gas tank allows for long highway trips, and we have taken a few now. The acceleration isn't screaming, but it is good enough to get up to highway speeds with no problems at all. My only complaint is about the gas mileage. I'm barely able to get 22-23 mpg around town. Could it be long red lights? Anyway, we love our Pearl Baby and hope to own it for a long time. 8/8/2019 update. Have now taken a couple of more road trips and Pearl Baby is still driving beautifully. To get extra acceleration I have put it in "Sport" mode on many occasions. The fit and finish is still one of the best ever. No squeaks, rattles or other weird noises. The cooled/ventilated seats have been wonderful if the car has been sitting out in the sun. 2/08/2020 update. Now after 2+ years, still loving Pearl Baby. The only complaint is the drive mode selector when turning on the car is supposed to be "Normal" but intermittently starts out in "Eco" instead. Not a problem, but a minor annoyance. I would love to use the panoramic sunroof more, but the glare washes out the dashboard. So we only use when the sun is low or at night when warm enough. With this being our second Hyundai, we are sold on the quality, ride and value. Will definitely consider as my #1 pick for any future vehicles.

Dual Clutch Transmission Failure

2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco 4dr Sedan (1.6L 4cyl Turbo 7AM)
4 of 6 people found this review helpful

Our 2015 Hyundai started having transmission issues just before 30,000 miles. We took our Sonata to the Hyundai Service Center 6 times over a year because of shuddering with acceleration, engine RPM revving but not engaging when in gear, Almost stalling when accelerating. All the while being told "It functions as it was designed to" with no repairs other than updating the software and being sent on our way for it to happen over and over again. Then finally we learned the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco was part of a class-action lawsuit because of the dual-clutch failure. Thinking it would finally be fixed, we were wrong. The lawsuit allowed Hyundai to buy back the vehicle if you bought a new Hyundai, or pay a small compensation if you sold it privately. I will never own another Hyundai.

This car is the MOST UNreliable car I've owned in over 40 years!!! This thing has standed me hundreds of miles from home TWICE in two years!! First, Fayetteville NC...fuel injectors...gone! A twenty something kid b/sing me ..."oh yeah parts are on the way ..tomorrow ...NOT!! 5 lovely days ....hotel meals and lots of $$$$. Hyundai did reimbursed me $290.. Out of the $700+ it cost me to interrupt my trip......THIS time I'm in Boston 1500 miles from home and the crank shaft seal goes...oil all over!!! I thought Fayetteville was bad! Boston IS very expensive to have to stay around! $$$$$. Parts to fix the car.?...I'm 7 days into this...."MAYBE end of the week...MAYBE first of next week!!!! I'm sure Hyundai will reimburse me their standard $300 for 3 days! I'm into this problem over a grand now...and they're fixing the car for free!! What a piece of JUNK!!! Update: 8 weeks later!!! Yes I said 8 weeks!!! The car was finally fixed. I left it in Boston and rented a car back home. Hyundai did reimburse the rental The time wasted flying back and forth...Got a oh yeah ..too bad!! This car is a piece of junk!! Very unreliable!!!

Never again, Hyundai. I chose this car over the Camry and Accord based on the ride and rich set of features that were advertised with it. The Blue Link option was what tipped me over the edge in going the Hyundai. It's been three months since I bought the car and I've found that some of those Blue Link options were just vaporware...items that were advertised, but never materialized. Things like Geo Fencing and Valet and Speed Alert, which were prominently advertised when I bought the car are still not available in my car and no longer appear on Hyundai's marketing site.

I have put very few miles on this vehicle in the last year. Unable to drive long distances in the winter due to poor air flow to the floor board which is most uncomfortable during cold months. You can not have a comfortable ride in the winter with the climate control of this vehicle. Service advisor at dealership had an attitude with me when I complained after they stated that it runs "normal". Normal appears to be a real crappy heat system - beware if you live in a cold climate. There is also a blue glare from the dashboard that reflects into your side mirror making you think there are "blue lights" behind you. I am very disappointed with the heat issue and have owned a Hyundai for 13 years. Buying the extended warranty didn't help.

Hated cold steering wheels and interior noise. This car eliminated both. With heated steering wheel & seats my 75th winter isn't nearly as tough to take. Talking on phone is better in this car than in the house, much quieter. Safety features with sound alerts backing up and lane changing definitely will keep me behind the wheel as I age. Handling at higher speeds is most reassuring and makes driving a pleasure. Possible Icy road sound alert was a little puzzling until I waded through the thick manual. Would be great if they just put a demonstration on YouTube for all the equipment loaded in this well thought out sedan.

Really like the value and good MPG, electric heated seats!. Handles well on snow! Seats are comfortable for 6ft and over. Lots of pluses, lots of extras for great price! Performance can be improved by driving it like a manual. Listen to the engine, use the torque curve to help the engine pull efficiently and you will be amazed at how much better the Sonata performs! The transmission shifts very well, so controlling the upshifts and using the Sport mode makes it smooth and pretty quick!

I was really hoping to love this car. I liked it over the Honda Accord and Mazda 6 from test drives. I got the Sport with Prem and Tech packages. After driving it for 4+ months, there is nothing to be excited about. Acceleration is poor, but most in this class are similar. The seats are not comfortable and the adjustable lumbar support hits your back in the wrong spot. I hate the NAV system. Not user friendly. The worst part of the car is the GAS MILEAGE. I have only been getting 22-24mpg combined (70% city/30% hwy). I did get 31mpg on an easy 100% hwy drive, but that is still well below stated figures. May be a good value with just the BASE car but not worth adding too much.

Hyundai Lease Problems/ Shady Business Practices

Mark H., 12/13/2016

Consumers, I am reaching out to you pertaining to lease issues I am having with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata as it pertains to shady business practices by Hyundai. I wanted to bring various items to your attention in effort to help warn other consumers of what they could face when leasing or buying through any Hyundai dealership. Since I've leased my car back in October of 2014, I have had to have two tires replaced and a third tire now has two patches in it. I have had one windshield crack from something hitting it on an highway, and when I tried to get it replaced under a warranty sold to me by a dealership, they tried to void it by not allowing me to bring in my car soon enough for the warranty to cover it. By the time the dealership accepted my appointment, the crack spider-ed out, which voided the warranty. I had to e-mail Hyundai Consumer Affairs to get them involved. They ended up sending me $500 to cover the cost of my deductible to fix the repair. Currently, my car is at the dealership getting repaired because I am now facing problems with my second windshield as well as another major problem that I will talk about later. Overnight last week, the windshield cracked within the glass itself by the radio antenna. I believe it had to due with the sudden change between the hot and cold weather. When I contacted a person with Hyundai Consumer Affairs, he informed me today that Hyundai is ordering the glass for my car, but is only willing to pay half of the amount. The glass would cost $750 so they would cover $375 and they want me to cover the other half. The rep told me that his area manager looked at the pictures and said the glass isn't defective, but he couldn't provide the rep nor myself a reason as to why it's not defective. I told the rep that his manager needs to provide me with a proper and professional response as to why it's not defective and to inform his boss that I am not at fault for the glass cracking, and it's clear that it's defective. The rep looked at the pictures sent from the dealership and could tell it wasn't my fault as well as the dealer's manager. The rep also informed me that they have this same problem with windshields with other Hyundai models, but not the Sonata. I told him, that alone means it could happen to the Sonata if it's happening with other models. In addition, if the company did not feel that it wasn't defective nor were they at fault, then they wouldn't be offering to pay for half of the cost for the windshield repair. I told the rep to tell his boss that the company needs to cover the full cost of the defective glass as well as provide me with a better explanation other than, "it's not defective." Please also note, I did not give permission for Hyundai to order and replace the glass at a cost to me. It's something that they chose to do on their own terms. Furthermore, if they are wiling to cover up to $375 for the repair, then why can't I bring in an outside company like I did the first time and Hyundai pay for the repair? I don't understand why I'm being forced to go through Hyundai and for the windshield to cost $750. In addition, my Bluetooth system has gone out and I had to reset it twice for it to work. Also, the car was advertised to get 37 mpg on the highway and it only averages 27.7 mpg. Finally, the biggest problem I am facing and warning consumers is that my car has had several little misfires that have turned into bigger concerns. The little misfires cause the car to give a burst of acceleration while driving. However, the bigger concern is that when I have been stopped in morning or rush-hour traffic coming off the highway or being on the highway, the car randomly shakes, revs up, and tries to accelerate while the car is stopped and the brake is applied. There has been no set pattern of occurrence. Every time this has happened and the car has been taken to a dealership, I get told that the dealership could not duplicate the situation and to bring it in if it does it again or as it's happening. I've contacted the BBB about all of this. They have sought out a manufacturing rep from Hyundai for mediation. The mediation has not taken place yet, but I was told by a BBB rep that the Hyundai rep said all that they will do is to honor my "New Car" Warranty, which protects the car up to 5 years and 60,000 miles. It's a basic warranty that you can get with the car and the company must honor if it's purchased. Hyundai is not offering to help me, except to honor a warranty that they must honor in the first place which does nothing for me in this case. The danger is what's happening with the car. It's life-threatening to myself as a driver, any passengers riding with me, as well as drivers around my vehicle. It seems to be that in order for Hyundai to take a costumers safety seriously, something dramatic must happen first. Otherwise, they offer no help nor support.

I live in Central New York where we have 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding. I have never had to buy snow tires and she is a beast in the snow. I love this car. Gas mileage averaged 30 mph just putting around town and 36 mph on the highway. Cried when it was totalled. I love this car.
