Used 2011 Hyundai Sonata Consumer Reviews
Not Bad for a $20K Car
I have 38K miles on the car...my lease ends in May 13. Overall, it has been a good car, although a bit on the boring side. Reliability has been excellent. I had to bring the car in for a recall early on during ownership, but it was a quick and painless process and Hyundai provided me with a $25 Visa gift card as an apology for the inconvenience of bringing the car in. The initial sales experience and all subsequent servicing at multiple Hyundai dealers have been outstanding. Hyundai seems to go out of its way to be friendly and efficient. Only issues are some cheap, hard plastic on the interior which squeak often over rough roads and the poor steering which is always off-center.
mpg better than epa ratings
Recently we got 40.7 mpg on straight hwy at 65 mph keeping the rpms below 2000. First i did not trust the computer but it proved to be accurate. I called my dealer and they were not all that surprised--so it does day on the sticker up to 41 mph. I am at 5200 and will continue to update data.

Good car, bad tires
Nice car in general. Not sure why they decided to make such low profile tires standard equipement on the SE and Turbo. Totally impractical for most people. Perhaps in Korea they devote resources maintaining their roads. Here in New England, the smallest of potholes will cause a flat, of which I experienced two in the first week. I have since "upgraded" to the base 16" wheels. Significant improvement in ride and durability. Also agree that the steering sometimes feels that it wants to pull to the left. Not always, and mostly in the left lane when the road slopes away from the center. Prefer the feel of traditional hydraulic power steering. Otherwise nice car and good value.
Fog Horn Blues
Bought my Sonata Limited 2.4 Turbo new in 2011. Initial pulling to the left was remedied by local alignment. With 36K on the odometer I noticed a foghorn-like sound emitting from under the hood whenever coming to a stop, and when the outside temperature was high. Initially, I suspected the brake system but then happened to come to a full stop, shift into neutral, and increase rpm's. Voila!!! The turbocharger. A couple of days at the local Hyundai dealer, and all was perfect. The problem has thankfully not re-occurred.
