A Major Defect

2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

My Sonata is 3 months old. This review is exclusively to warn all potential buyers of a major defect that Hyundai is aware of, yet is doing nothing about. Namely; the steering wheel locks up when you turn the car off. This was supposedly an anti-theft device the company came up with. However, when the steering wheel inadvertently locks up, the driver must furiously shake the steering wheel back and forth to disengage the locking device. Naturally, my family and I learned this the hard way. Getting stuck, being unable to get the device to disengage. 2 Hyundai dealers now tell me that the company is aware of this problem. Wow, that's impressive !

Had for a little over 2 years, lately I have been going to a delearship often to have issues fixed. Major issues I found were, engine won't start, thankfully I was in town. Front door won't unlock with a remote, I had to use back door to open front door last time I did that was ,,,,never ,,,Current issue, I heard a hamming sound from the dashboard, it actually felt like some one was mowing grass, honestly I rolled down my window to check. They said it was at the back of the radio unit and they took out the whole unit including gps. Guess what I am driving, a car with a big hole on my dashboard,,that could be ok but I feel it is not reliable. Better spend ur hard earned money on reliable car!

hyundai overall fail

2011 Hyundai Sonata SE 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6A)

within the first week of owning this vehicle parts started falling off. The interior is cheap and I've had to have the fuel door replaced multiple times. Not only that but after maintaining my hyundai regularly it stalled our of no where (no check engine light, no oil light, no warning) and died. IT was towed to the local hyundai dealer where they said they had to jump it to get it into the service bay then stated they reved the engine and it died. Hyundai is now saying it is my fault for not maintaining the vehicle and they will not cover the cost of the engine. I am now completely with out a vehicle unless I pay over 8k for a brand new engine on a leased vehicle less than 2 years old.

I got my 2011 Sonata in March and I will say that I have never thought I would own a Hyundai again. I had a 2000 Hyundai Accent and then a 2002 Hyundai Accent and I was very disappointed with car. But since the new model came out for the Sonata I was totally in love with the way it looked and I honestly was willing to give Hyundai another try and I'm happy I did. I had a Mazda 6 and I'm happy I no longer have that car. The Sonata is so much better hands down. When I went to test drive the Sonata has soon as I sat in the car I was sold. My father went from a S class Mercedes to the Hyundai Eqqus and I thought why not try it out. I guess I can say that we are now a "Hyundai Family".

Great Value...suspect build quality

My 2011 Sonata GLS w/PEP2 is now 1-year old. From a value for the money perspective, the car is outstanding. High level of standard features that cost way more in the competition. The build quality of the car, however, is very questionable. After only 1-year and 14,300 miles, my Sonata is full of rattles. Door panels, dash, rear parcel shelf, center console...rattles everywhere. The dealer said they would need to remove the entire dash to "attempt" to fix the dash rattle. I normally keep cars 3-4 years, however the Sonata will be traded much sooner than that. Just need to find a suitable replacement.
