Used 2011 Hyundai Sonata Consumer Reviews
Styling and bang for the buck can't be beat.
This is a lot of car for the $$! The styling is a head-turner. Not only have people stopped to ask me about the car, but when I see one on the road ahead of me, I mistake it for a Jag. At 11,000 miles, mileage has improved and returns a consistent 38mpg on the open road at 70+ mph. Slow down to 55, and the reading jumps to 40+ mpg! City driving returns about 24mpg if there is a little freeway driving mixed in.
Too good to be true? No! Got my cake and ate it too!
I've had my Sonata SE 2.0L Turbo for 3 weeks now and still can't understand how Hyundai can offer a 274HP Turbo sedan with BMW like build quality and safety, for less than $25K off the lot. Even on the 2.0L Turbo, you can still negotiate with Hyundai and get it for at least $1K under invoice. I did. The turbo is quiet and makes for a quick car. If you don't kick the turbo constantly, you will realize the posted fuel mileage. Voice recognition system is a little clumsy and the XM radio sound quality is subpar compared to MP3's through an iPod. Be aware that Hyundai hides the warranty on the NAV system; it's only 36K or 3yrs. Handling is not an Audi, but awesome for $25K sedan.

Time will tell - Getting disappointed day by day
When we bought this car in April 2010, we were so excited and thought it was great value - good looking, great freeway mileage etc. There were some minor problems (the handle bars fell off within 1/2 year) but we were okay as long as the engine runs well. However in less than 2 years, we kind of regret it. Since January we have visited the service department 4 times in less than 2 months: 1. Engine lights on 2. Starter broke and was replaced 3. Oil leak 4. More oil leak after less than 2 weeks This car only has 29K miles. Although these were all covered by warranty, it's not fun to visit the service dept. every other week. I don't need free car wash anymore.
Great vehicle, one complaint
I have nothing bad to say about my 2011 Hyundai Sonata in regards to the performance. I feel it is a great car for the money and you cant beat the warranty.
A Major Defect
My Sonata is 3 months old. This review is exclusively to warn all potential buyers of a major defect that Hyundai is aware of, yet is doing nothing about. Namely; the steering wheel locks up when you turn the car off. This was supposedly an anti-theft device the company came up with. However, when the steering wheel inadvertently locks up, the driver must furiously shake the steering wheel back and forth to disengage the locking device. Naturally, my family and I learned this the hard way. Getting stuck, being unable to get the device to disengage. 2 Hyundai dealers now tell me that the company is aware of this problem. Wow, that's impressive !
