I love my car, but it has some minor flaws common to all of them. First off the turbo waste gate does rattle but only till the car warms up, then your good. It's not loud like everyone says, just annoying if your windows are down and the radio is off and you near a wall or something. Some people are just sensitive to any noise at all. Second, don't get the Navigation, because the touchscreen sucks and always needs re-calibrated. But that does not last and you push in one place, and something else goes off. Bad design and Hyundai's warranty sucks on the interior. Don't get sold on the 100K warranty. It has a lot of holes in it. If your not the first owner, it only good to 60K not 100K. And it's powertrain only, nothing else. Other than these small things, it's a fun quick car and reliable. I have about 65k miles, and no problems yet. For the money USED, it's a great deal if you can get it around 16K, like I did. Don't buy new, they depreciate like crazy cause their a Hyundai, not a Toyota or Honda by any means for resale value. But for reliability, they do hold their own, great daily driver. Gets a lot of looks and questions on what it it, especially with the wing badge kit deleting the Hyundai logos. People can't believe its a Hyundai. Overall, I love the car, it's great for the money.

This is my first new purchase, and it's well worth the money. The power is fantastic, the sounds are great, and the performance is quite high, especially for the money. The gearbox is short ratio, but it doesn't drone on the highway. Clutch takes a day or two to get used to, but no problems. The shifter I replaced with a uuc unit because it rattled, and the radio I also replaced since I felt the sound quality was only ok. However, it is fantastic to drive, and I've been averaging 24 mpg COMBINED on regular gas. While the suspension is stiff, the ride is still comfortable due to the very nice sport seats. I've road tripped already with no complaints. Also, the rear seats fold down which is a huge plus. UPDATE: After one full year of ownership, I am sadly reporting that this car equipped with the manual has proven to be a lemon. This is limited to the design of the 6 speed manual. The synchronizer rings are a poor design and cause a lot of grinding shifts. The shifter design is poor too, with incessant rattling. The transmission itself has caused way too many problems to keep the car. Replaced with an Mx-5. TLDR; if you want a GenCoupe, get the automatic. I do believe that mine was a bit of bad luck, so if you get that manual, make sure you have the warranty. I think one replacement at around 60k might happen, but not as frequently as mine occurred.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Grand Touring 2dr Coupe w/Tan Leather (3.8L 6cyl 8A)

I wanted something sporty, reliable, and affordable. After a ton of research, everything pointed to the Genesis Coupe. I am so happy with my decision. I was comparing used FR-S, BRZ, Mini Coppers, 328i, and of course the Genesis coupe. The Genesis trumps the FRS, BRZ and Mini in power. The 328i was nice but the up keep was much more expensive than the Genesis. I've had the car for a month now, and I could not be happier with my decision. The only cons I found is that the Infinity speakers are not as nice as I'm used to, but not awful. I would also never feel comfortable putting someone in the back seat, there is just not a lot of room, but that is to be expected with a car like this. There are back up sensors but not a camera. I don't mind not having the cameras but I know a lot of people are used to having that in cars these days. Pros: The trunk space is decent for a car this little. The power is amazing and not a lot of lag when you hit the acceleration. The thing just looks so damn awesome too. I have a white exterior with black and tan interiors (tan leather seats). I constantly come outside and have people coming to my car and looking inside of it and asking me about it. They cant believe its a Hyundai. I also put on the wing badges so I'm sure that slightly confuses people.

People have to take this car for what it is, A road racer. Great handling, super performance, Good looks, and good fuel economy. 17MPG around town, 27MPG on highway. With Premium version you get sun roof and navigation to name a few extras. This car is electronically limited to 150+MPH. I will vouch for 135. This car has the ability to put you in jail in any of the 50 states. It is a car that wants to be driven. Good trunk space for 2 people. Con: This isn't a car for families with children. Back seat would be a pain to put a baby seat in and it's not designed for adults.

I can't say anything bad about the Genesis Coupe. I love this car. When I first started looking for a car to lease I was undecided about the make and model - all I knew was that I wanted something that had some power behind it and something that looked nice. I test drove several makes and models from several dealerships and never walked away thinking 'this is the car I want' until I saw and test drove the Genesis Coupe. I got behind the wheel and immediately felt comfortable. I took it out for a test drive and even though it was a 4 cylinder engine, it was fast and it felt like it had a lot more power to it than it actually has. It handled well on both city streets and the highway, it was quiet inside, the speaker system is good, the gadgets are easily accessible, it handled turns very well, and when I gunned the engine I could really feel the Turbo kick in. As soon as I got back from the test drive I sat down and worked out a lease agreement. It's been three years now and I have had zero problems (well, one minor problem that was fixed with a single 1 hr trip to the dealership) and zero complaints. I loved this car and will be sad to give it up. If I didn't need something bigger, I'd consider leasing another Genesis or buying this one outright. If I did have anything negative to say, its that the gas mileage isn't the greatest. I do mostly city driving and only average about 310 per fill up, and its an 18 gallon tank so I was paying between 45 - 65 a fill up, depending on how high the gas prices were. The mileage did improve drastically when I went on road trips and traveled mostly highway miles - then I could get well over 400 mpg. The other thing that isn't so great is the back seat space - any adult sitting back there is not going to be very comfortable (but what do you expect from a sports car) and the trunk space is pretty bad - I often could not get boxes or other larger items into the trunk and would have to put things in the back seat - but again, its a sports car, not an SUV. Overall I give this car two thumbs up and 5 stars - mostly because it is a fun car to drive, has amazing power, and after three years it still drives like new. I had only one issue with the Turbo that the dealership fixed in under an hr, and I had to bring it in for a recall, which was also fixed in about an hr, and other than that I've had no mechanical issues at all. It is a solid, fast and fun car.

The car was bought new and I had never seen this model prior to purchase. Overall the car is reliable, has good performance, affordable, and has eye appeal. I have not had any major issues with the car except paint flaking/peeling on the front bumper and the rear fender. The interior is what I would call generic for the most part but I do like the tan colored seats with the GT model. Additionally, when I first purchased the car, most people were impressed or liked the LED DRL since in 2013 this option was relatively new. Unfortunately , the headlights are halogen and should of been HID. Overall, I would say it is a 4 star pick with my only concern being the resale value since Hyundai is not looked at as being a high level vehicle. I should close by saying after about a year, I gave the car to my wife and she loves it but unfortunately she was not accustomed to the horsepower and has had several speeding tickets which is easy to do with its 3.8 engine.

rarely do i ever write reviews but i was so compelled to write one for the 2013 genesis 2.0t. i see a ton of mixed reviews at least for the 2.0t. The 2.0t is an extremely fun car for 25k. Power from the 4 banger is more than adequate if you're not an enthusiast or a tuner. Car receives a ton of looks, love the fact that it's not a common car on the road yet, it gives you a sense of exclusivity. Handling is good can take corners relatively well, but by no means is it on the same level as an FRS/BRZ. i see a lot of concerns and complaints about the waste gate on the turbo rattling, my genesis has about 2500 with no issue so far (knocks on every piece of wood known to mankind) overall pleased

So let's start with the entertainment, just to get the only bad part out of the way, it doesn't have an infotainment system, just a basic radio cd aux ipod Bluetooth system which is usually part for the course for a baseline model but I really feel like hyundai could have spent a few more dollars and put in a screen even if it didn't have navigation (which I don't prefer to have built in anyways) because there are many ways to get your phone screen to show up on those regardless of whether the screen supports it or not. The Bluetooth uses the older a2dp profile for music which is fine for the average user, but someone who leads more towards the audiophile end of the spectrum will definitely be able to hear the degradation at the high end from the compression. I just use the aux now to get the best sound from my phone, which the stock audio system actually sounds pretty good, it's factory amped so it's got a fair amount of bump out of the existing speakers. Adequate for every day listening but I will say if you're into car audio this is not the car for you, of course you can cram a 12 in the back with an amp, and you could fit a double din in up front, but you really shouldn't this isn't the car for that. Performance is stellar, acceleration is great whether you're starting from 0 or 60 it's very responsive but this car does not throw you back in your seat it's fairly heavy at 3500 pounds and the shocks are very good, so it's a very comfortable ride even when accelerating. Enthusiasts may be a bit turned off by that as my brother who's been a sports car enthusiast all his life felt underwhelmed by the perceived acceleration, but conceded that it's deceptively quick when driving it himself. It's very easy to find yourself driving along at 90+ mph on Texas highways without even realizing it because the ride is butter smooth. The engine compartment is actually pretty accessible and if you plan to mod the car this is a great one for you there is a HUGE online community dedicated to genesis coupes and modding them and have lots of information to provide to everyone. Overall I'm very satisfied with the car and plan to keep at for a long time especially considering that I bought the hyundai extended warranty from the dealership, 10 years 100,000 miles for the entire car, not just the powertrain, what a deal at 1300 bucks.

A beautiful and comfortable ride ruined by terrible transmission and waste gate design. She's quick, relatively inexpensive, comfortable to ride in but she has a fatal flaw. She sounds like a bucket of bolts after three thousand miles. My friends think there's something broke but there isn't. The waste gate rattles loudly and the transmission grinds. Hyundai claims this is normal and won't do anything about it, essentially their build quality lacks.

Bought brand new in June of 2012. Have not had a single issue with the car. I did some upgrades, full exhaust, after market brakes, turbo mode, and misc exterior stuff. I have put a little over 80000 miles on it and still going strong. Starting to get some rattles in interior that are annoying nut other than that both the exterior paint and interior are holding up exceptionally well. It gets great gas mileage and is pretty comfortable for road trips even for my 6'2 and 230 lb frame. For the money I think it was worth it.

Purchased this R spec 3/22/13. Coming up on first 1000 miles, Love this car so far! This is our 2nd Hyundai in 2 yrs, My wife drive a 2011 Sonata 2.0T and we love that car as well. The 2.0 direct injected variable valve timing turbo engine is very stout and with 30k on the Sonata, trouble free. I hoped Hyundai would put that engine in the Genesis coupe, so when they did it was a done deal for me. That engine mated to a 6 spd manual is really fun to drive and I love the new look of the coupe. I also appreciate the simplicity of a rear wheel drive 4 cylinder. I am a experienced auto tech (30+ yrs) and find this car to be well thought out. Looking forward to a long term relationship.

Bought this car essentially new (4300 miles) five years ago (74k miles now). I've replaced the tires twice (Michelin SuperSports- every 25k miles), and the front Brembo pads (Hawk HPS @50k). Oil changes ~4-5k miles. Belt tensioner replaced at 50k. No other repairs! It's fully stock. Seats are comfortable and bolstered. It rides on rails with a tight, taut suspension, though not particularly forgiving on bumps. 6-speed MT is fun to drive even if the clutch is truck-like. Trunk is reasonably sized, but the opening is limiiting. Instrumentation could be better: cluster of three on the console includes only one useful gauge: oil temp. Suggest volt/ammeter or oil pressure could replace the Torque and MPG gauges. Interior materials are quite good. 360-degree visibility is good, though a camera would have been nice. Entertainment/GPS are typical for the time, but Bluetooth quit at 65k. A/C is excellent. Warranty is outstanding. Wish they'd still make 'em!

Mods needed to make this car GREAT AGAIN

Shane, 02/03/2021
2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T Premium 2dr Coupe (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

I’ve owned a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8 Premium and now a 2014 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T premium(manual). First, I must say that this car turns heads. I wrapped my car in Ocean Shimmer Blue vinyl wrap and people stop on the street or in the middle of a crosswalk to take pictures. The first thing that had to go was the exhaust. The 3.8 had a much better exhaust note as opposed to the 2.0T. I got rid of the first cat and put in straight pipes, with 2 small resonators and have had nothing but compliments. However, I did just get a ticket for “loud exhaust/no muffler”. Which was completely ridiculous as it’s not that loud, just nice sounding. Secondly, the air intake had to go. Put in a SRI which sounds spectacular when accelerating hearing all of the air being sucked in. Right after the air intake you obviously need a BOV. With the intake and BOV riding down the street, hitting the gas and hearing the blow off valve people will literally do the OWL (turn their heads 90 degrees to see what is making that noise). It sounds amazing. Lastly, what I recommend to every genesis owner (mostly those with the turbos) is to tune the car. It’s expensive, but it’s worth every penny. Tuning from BTR or SFR changes your car 100%. You think it was fast before? Wait until you have that new ECU inside. With 1:1 throttle response, the extra 60hp and 80tq makes this car faster than the 2013+ 3.8’s. I find that the more you upgrade your genesis with bolt-ons the more turbo lag you get. At one point I asked a 2010 3.8 to race from 0-100 and I took him from 1st into 2nd... once I went into second and shifted the turbo lag felt like I slammed on the brakes and he bested me. After that I tuned the car and it got rid of all that turbo lag and the car is extremely linear. Revs to 7,200 RPM, no governor, increase HP/TQ, better fuel economy, tuned for 91 gasoline, launch control, o2 sensor disabled, etc. This car is now a beast. It’s the best $1,000 I ever spent. There is a wide variety of companies out there that offer so many different options for mods/upgrades. There’s an entire community dedicated to genesis cars like the previous review stated. All that being said, without doing any sort of modifications and keeping your car factory. I must say it’s still a peppy sports car. You can still get many tickets with it and still turn heads. The stereo system in the premium is pretty good. Comes with a factory subwoofer in the back that’s capable of shaking your mirrors, I believe it’s an infinity system. The power is there, but I still say it needs to have bolt-ones and a tune to really unlock its capability. Always tune on a separate ECU in case you take it in for repair or maintenance you can swap out and not void your warranty. Pros would be: Great sound system on the premium model Decent power that can still get you in trouble Overall great looking car Huge community for modifications Cheap repairs for any break downs Decent gas mileage if driving like normal Reliable Once fully modded you can beat BMW 300 series, focus ST, genesis v6’s, Volkswagen, etc etc. Entertainment system on the premium is easy to use and very functional. Decent size screen with navigation. Cons would be: Factory tune does not unleash its full potential Too many bolt-ones with no tune = TERRIBLE TURBO LAG The tires could have been 255/265 for the rear for more traction and more aggressive look No head room in the backseat. Anyone over 5’6 will have trouble sitting back there. Transmission could have been fine tuned a bit more. They just carbon coated the synchros after the 2012 models. It still feels off. Terrible handling in the snow even with excellent winter tires. Interior still has a lot of cheap plastic pieces. Including the pedals which could have been made with metal. Premium should have came with the limited slip diff, instead it’s more expensive and only the r-spec comes with the LSD. Hood scoops look cheap and aren’t functional Front end plastic looks cheap, but after a wrap it looks really good. Overall I give this car a 4/5. As you need to spend about $3,000 on the BOV/SRI/EXHAUST/TUNE/ETC... to really unlock this cars full potential. Once done it’s an incredible machine that will slam you back in your seat. Without the mods this car just feels like it’s lacking that extra giddy up. The transmission still leaves more to be wanted. The turbo lag without a tune is completely ridiculous. All in all, great car, but leaves more to be desired.

If you want a family-toting, long distance trip taking car, look for another style. This car is pure fun! Don’t try to squeeze a family in, just enjoy your daily commute, errands, quick trips to the beach... and all the admiration and questions you’ll get. Most fun car to drive I’ve ever had! *Update after owning for almost 6 years- longest I've ever kept a car without trading in on new! Still runs fantastically. Still gets comments, turns heads, and spurs compliments. I truly wish they still made this car! If they did with upgraded technology I would trade- otherwise, I am still happy to keep it.

For a budget performance car, this car is great! The handling is great, the car is quick (despite being heavy for its class), and looks amazing. The front bumper has a plastic piece that looks pretty cheap and the hood vents arent functional but other than that, the exterior is nice. The interior is great! I love the looks despite radio display that looks like it came out of a 2002 Pontiac (unless you got the premium trim which has navigation etc.). The seats are nice and hug you tight so you dont move much when taking sharp turns, and the material is nice quality. Back seats are small but that is expected when buying a coupe sports car. The car sounds nice and looks nice. I have not owned the car long (4 months) but http://gencoupe.com/ is a forum with a great community of Genesis Coupe owners and almost every owned expresses how reliable their Genesis Coupe has been. Almost everybody runs the car to high miles with nothing but routine maintenance. Overall, very impressed with this car.

My 2013 2.0T premium has a horrible rattle coming from the turbo waste. Hyundai refuses to fix mine or anyone else's saying its normal. Trust me when you hear the loose washers on a bolt sound coming from our cars you wouldn't like it either. Its awful! Wouldn't recommend this car to anyone since Hyundai refuses to fix them. It cost way to much money to own a car you are embarrassed to start around people.

This is my third coupe (have owned a 2009, 2011 and now the 2013) and I must say this car is the best yet. Great power, very good built quality and comfortable. All the best things in the g37 for thousands less and with a great warranty to boot.I find the stereo to be fine (300 plus watts more then enough for me), the navigation works great as does the Bluetooth. If your looking fort a sports coupe that will leave some bucks in your bank account, then it is a no brainer.

This is one really impressive car. From nose to tail. I owned a 2008 Infiniti G37 Sport and this car is a very close second to it. In some ways better. The design is a real head turner. The interior is quite comfortable and spacious. The interior and exterior illumination is fantastic. The sound system could be vamped up a bit but still sounds good. The ride is decent. A little rough and the road noise can be loud but not overbearing. Compared to the G37 it feels way lighter. Most standard features are the same in both cars but the Genesis does have a little more. I lease this car and I'm excited to see how the Genesis Coupe progresses in the future. I'm extremely happy I picked this one.

I have owned this car for 6 months and is by far a fun car to drive. I change the front and back emblems to the wing emblem and looks fantastic. Great Coupe for the $ Tony S

Overall nearly perfect for a sports car. I own the r-spec which means handles amazing but rides poorly. Back seat is hard to use even for groceries so i don't. Trunk is small but seats do fold down if necessary. Acceleration is very good once u hit 3000 rpms. It has a 6 speed that takes practice to master but works well. Seats are perfect including leather. All gauges and buttons excellent. Radio is disappointing for a 29k car. MPG is excellent; driving 75 gets u 27! Insurance and tires are too expensive but it's a true sports car. Understated but excellent looks.

The decision for me came down to a used FR-S, Mini or Gencoupe. I chose a 22k miles Gencoupe for a lot of reasons. The head-turning styling, fantastic performance and interior trim all set the Gencoupe apart. The FR-S, with less HP and MUCH less torque, it looks great in the rear view mirror as you blow them away. Plus the Gencoupe has much more rear seat room for my kids. The Mini was the handling choice but lacks power. I love the wastegate chatter (I want to hear my turbo work!) but the turbo overall is not loud enough. The 6 speed tranny is fantastic- tight and precise, it's taken some time for me to learn to heel n toe with it (that's made a big difference in smoothness).

Well built car with some caveats

Vehicle is very solidly built but feels too heavy when accelerating. Fuel consumption is awful. Power output of the engine is delivered in a series of surges and not smooth or even predictable. The computer seems to randomly decide whether you can have full throttle or not and this hampers performance (traction control off makes no difference). Traction in wet is the worst of any car i've ever driven with stock Bridgestones. Traction control is not very good. This car absolutely needs a limited slip diff even in the base trim. Front seats are very comfy. The car corners impressively flat at speed (dry roads), but is hard to keep tracking straight ahead on freeways (lots of self steering due to road imperfections). Manual transmission is ghastly and won't let you hurry through the gears without embarrassing grinding. Gear shifter transmits vibration into interior of the car causing buzzes and rattles when in top gear. Wheel balancing is impossible, maybe due to imbalance in drive train. Exhaust sounds great. Sound system is incorrectly equalized for the car and is far too treble heavy, but can be somewhat dialed in by decreasing treble almost all the way, midrange about half the way and bass left flat - I suspect that the tweeters in front need attenuation. Dealer knows almost nothing about the car and service is an exercise in futility, even though they are polite. They wanted to remove the whole transmission to replace a rattly shift knob! In summary: while I mostly enjoyed my time with this car as it is fun and nice to look at, it was frustrating and at the end of the lease I decided not to purchase it due to the issues mentioned. It is, however, reliable and very solidly built.

As a previous 2010 coupe owner all I can say is that Hyundai has improved this car inside and out. I think Hyundai has done and outstanding job of responding to the earlier owner surveys, it's no wonder how they have become so competetive in todays market.

I'm the second owner. Bought this car two years ago. Best gas mileage i have gotten was 31.2 and i average on long trips 29 with 27.9 acheived easily. In town driving i get 20.2 to 21 mpg. I get compliments every time I drive this car followed by what is it / who makes it. I have no regrets buying this car. Hyundai today is not the ones from the 1990s. Fun, sporty, quick not fast. Although bone stock even with the 8 speed auto (Hyundai's in house made ZF clone) this car ran 13.57 @104 mph at Cecil county dragway in Maryland. I cannot comment on the 2.0 turbo. My friend has a 2010 track model, the interior trim isn't as nice and the quality is lower. That was a huge complaint so hyundai fixed this starting with the 2013 model year. Also added Direct injection to the engine as well as some beefed up internals. 2012 and older are rated at 306 hp compared to the 2023 and up mods getting 348 hp. Torque is 267/295 respectively. My car dynoed at 312 hp and 278 tq at the rear tires, although i do have many bolt ons. The trim levels are base model, rspec model that gets a racing suspension and Brembo brakes. A grand touring (GT) model that has softer suspension and open rear differential. And the top of line fully loaded, leather interior track model. The track model enjoys the performance upgrades of the rspec while adding all the luxury's of the top trim. Starting in 2014 the track edition was renamed the Ultimate package, and is identical except in name.

I was in love with this vehicle when I first purchased it -- I was 20, and I made the purchase all on my own. Instead of listening to my mother and getting something economical and practical, I chose to instead get a performance/sports car. Do I regret it? Some days, yes... other days, I deal with it. Some things to note: - Performance is awesome - Ride is bumpy - Backseat space is obviously cramped - Trunk space is small as well - Technology is lacking... the Bluetooth connectivity could be MUCH better; Hyundai hasn't manufactured a lightning-compatible iPod cable; the entertainment display is very dated - Outward visibility is awful However, I do have the base model, and the upper models are much more luxurious than mine.

I bought a 2013 Hyundai Genesis three years ago after trading my 350Z in. I thought my problems were over only for them to resurface again. The engine went out with only 62k and the warranty company wouldn't buy a new engine, because I don't receipts when I did the oil changes. I ran 10-30 weight during the summer since I live in TX and 5-30 in the winter. I babied it and only drove it on the weekends which explains the low-mileage. Now I'm stuck with payments and a non-running junker for the next two years. The engines are trash and weak nothing like Honda or Nissan. Buyers beware and steer clear from the Genesis. Enter at your own risk

Sporty car that can still function as your daily driver. Hyundai should have given it a hatchback. That would increase it's practicality. Give it a sunroof and it would be perfect.

I bought a brand new 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe 6 speed, when I pressed the clutch the car makes horrible clanking and rattle noises. I took the car back and they told me that normal. I then switched the car for a different one and that car makes the same horrible noise. THe master mechanic at Hyundai states lots of people have complained but hyundai says they do not recognize this as a problem. I hate this car with a passion, it sound like your driving a 1980 sports car that rattles and clanks. DOnt waste you money the car is a piece of crap.

I had a 2012 GenCoupe auto that I was disappointed with and traded for this 2013 2.0T Manual which is a huge improvement in performance, economy, interior fit and finish. Having owned 5 mustangs I was ready for a change. With it's modern look both inside and out, better suspension, and value for the dollar I am happy I switched.

This car is amazing. I purchased after doing months of research. The others I considered were the Nissan 370Z, Mustang GT, and BMW 128i coupe. This car has impressive handling, a spacious front for driver and passenger, instant power, and awesome styling. I recently drove on a 4 hour drive and got 30mpg. I almost chose the 370Z, but I wanted something that had more trunk space and the possibility of carrying more than 1 passenger. The back seat is tiny and some passengers will find they have claustrophobia, but I like it for the extra space for stuff and like knowing that I can fit up to 3 passengers legally. The trunk is huge. 2000 miles so far and I love it.

Genesis 2.0T Premium, affordable little sports car

UPDATE After 4 years of ownership: At 145,000 km's only routine maintenance required. After 3 years of ownership: At 130,000 km's minor issues only but annoying. Battery harness collar cracked and it took ages to have the replacement ordered. After that just routine maintenance. Wouldn't recommend purchasing unless you can get it at a good price and are a mechanic. Still looks good, performance and handling are the same. Fun car to drive but its the reliability that will get you. After 1 year of ownership: AT 105,000 KILOMETERS (just over 60K miles) THE ENGINE SEIZED WHILE DOWNSHIFTING (automatic transmission) REQUIRING A COMPLETE REBUILD costing over $11,000 Canadian (USD 8,700). It appears the crank rod bearings failed. Near identical issue with two other friends cars. How this could happen on a vehicle that was well maintained and while it was operating under normal conditions is brutal. A bunch of irritating squeaks and rattles in the interior dash have come out of nowhere at 125,000 km. Review on Purchase: Genesis 2.0T is an affordable entry level sports car, especially used, delivering good value. The other cars I looked at and took for test drives were the BRZ/FRS/86's but I couldn't get over the lack of HP (decent little track cars but the pickup was a showstopper). The turbo has some lag but if you control the revs, manually or through sport mode and paddle shifters with the automatic tranny, its very responsive at lower revs. It definitely has some go to it. The tracking is good. The steering feel is a bit soft in the middle and numb but it turns in well and corners consistently. The suspension is marginal and you should factor in the cost of a decent set of coilovers (I added Bilstein). Road noise isn't great. The cockpit is roomier than competitors (BRZ, FRS/86), gauges and layout are fine, and you can fit someone short in the backseat but the headroom can be lacking. The touch screen is frustrating for a 2014 model as it can be unresponsive and the buttons work better. The aftermarket for parts is not as broad and deep as other brands but intermediate enthusiasts can likely find what they're looking for but you might incur significant shipping costs as there is nothing in stock locally for me (I added a Seibon carbon fiber hood and diffuser plus a basic catback). It surprisingly gets a lot of looks and questions from others that don't recognize the brand (pretty near every owner de-badges Hyundai emblems for Genesis). All that said, it combines an element of good looks, decent interior, horsepower, reasonable handling and is fun to drive.

First off, this car is soooo much fun to drive! I have the R-spec 3.8 trim.with the 6-speed manual trans. It has great acceleration and handling. But you must get to know her. The 6 speed manual is quirky and notchy. Timing the rpms during shifting is crucial and that’s what’s so fun - you have to LEARN how to drive this machine and that challenge is what makes this car so enjoyable! Gas mileage is around 26 mpg highway. The wide wheel base makes it a bit difficult to park sometimes.
