"I didn't know Hyundai built sports cars!"
"Man what kind of car is that??", ask the car wash attendant. "Oh it's just a Hyundai Genesis..." I say as I start to feel all giddy on the inside for someone talking to me while wearing socks and sandals. "I didn't know Hyundai built sports cars! That is much nicer than my new V6 Camaro.." the man says with slight disappointment in his voice. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is an understated performance sports car. Why do I say understated? With the open market of the FRS/BRZ twins, Ford Focus ST, Nissan 370z and Honda Civic Si, it is very easy to forget that Hyundai offers a competitive RWD, 300hp sports car for a cheaper price. After spending a week of searching, I was able to find a Genesis Coupe for $4,000 cheaper than a FRS and $6,000 cheaper than a Focus ST (Take a guess on the price gap between the Hyundai and the 370....Yikes!). After owning the car through both Winter and Summer I can say that this car makes a decent daily driver. I went for the top of the line "Track" package which includes 19' Wheels, a stiffer suspension, big Brembo brakes, and low profile tires which, in the winter, makes for a questionable journey. Though the weather was not in the Genesis Coupe's favor, it handle the snow and ice better than most cars on the road. Traction Control is a feature that will automatically prevent you from getting in-over your head, and the climate control system will keep you warm while the temperatures fall bellow zero degrees. During the summer months the car can come into its own. If you have never taken this car out on a back-road, it is highly recommended that you scare your local Hyundai Salesman. The stiff suspension allows you to feel the cars sports car spirit as you abuse it through sharp hairpin turns, the car does not buckle at the effort, it laughs and yells "More!". Though I have found this to be an excellent car, it is not perfect. The stiff suspension will really begin to make you feel your age, even if you're 2 years old. Long road trips can be rather tiresome and make you question why you didn't walk to your Aunt's house in Idaho. The interior is a nice place to be, but is filled with cheap feeling materials and more plastic then a aging supermodel. Though it has 300HP, I feel that the car under utilizes that power in the high gears and makes use of it in the lower gears. What was a major surprise was how roomy the car is (in the front seats), as a 6 foot 2 individual, I have plenty of space to bob my head to my fast and furious soundtrack. My dad (who let's say is a lot more "healthy" than I) felt that the race like seats was firm and quite comfortable to sit in. MPG has been much better than I could ever imagine, when driving home from an overnight party I had the A.C. on with the windows down (who needs logic?), I managed to get 31.3 MPG without even trying. Remember this is a 300HP, "Track Edition". Overall this is a great car for the price. This Hyundai looks greats, sounds great, and next to an RX8 or a Civic, it's fast. If you're like me and you want good performance out of the box you'll opt for the 3.8 motor because it is strong and capable of performance without being dangerous to a young driver. Tuners will go for the 2.0 turbo model as their is plenty of aftermarket support for the 2.0 to make it as fast, then faster than a 3.8. At the end of the day the suspension is very stiff but if you're looking at this as an option, you probably already have a yearning for back pain.

BEST CAR EVER!!!
I am a self-admitted car snob and if you had told me 5 years ago that I would buy a Hyundai, I would have laughed at you. I am also notorious for getting bored with my cars at about the 18 month mark. I have had my Genesis for 2 1/2 years and love it as much (quite possibly, even more!) as the day I bought it! It is amazingly nimble for a car it's size! It handles about like my 350-Z did stock and the back end isn't twitchy like the American muscle cars tend to be. It's definitely quick and it's very comfortable. Best of all, it has been extremely reliable! Only con is that people stop me everywhere I go to look at it and ask me all about it and there are always noseprints on the windows!

I would not buy this car again.
I love the style of this car as do many people. That said my particular car has computer/electrical issues. I have had to have the radio replaced twice, an amplifier replaced, the driver door button replaced twice, and the push button start had an occasional "interrupt" in the brake connect that kept the car from starting quite a few times. Now these may seem minor, but somehow the computer/electrical system is damaging components in the car! I'm very worried about what might be next. I have heard from another owner that his traction control siezed and caused him to have an accident. Hyundai replaced his car but the new one has issues too! Nothing worse than electrical issues.
Fabulous Car
I've had my car for almost 2 years now and I love it. Ride is acceptable. Handling is very good. Power is phenomenal. Absolutely no issues with it. Build quality is quite good. Sat nav is next to useless - maps are outdated. iPod and Bluetooth connectivity are fantastic - interface lacks a bit. Infinity sound system is fantastic. Maintenance is cheap. I have two formal complaints: the traction control is absolutely horrible. It allows for 0 tire slip - very safe, but not fun. It will practically put your head thru the windshield when it kicks on. Take it off and you'll end up backwards. Secondly, the exhaust sounds like it came off the Elantra. I'm in a big V6 sports car - sound like it!
Superb sports car for the money.
After researching various vehicles, I decided on the Genesis Coupe, and boy am I pleased with my decision. Walked into a dealership without any intention on buying that day, but after one test drive, I was sold. The car handles great, performs even better, is surprisingly refined inside (especially with the new 2011 interior changes), and literally screams "Look at me!" from the outside. Even things that other critics cited as potential issues, such as a very bumpy ride on the track model and sub par sound from the infinity sound system, didn't seem justified from my experience so far. My only advice, leave the ESC "ON" until you become accustomed to the power and handling of this beast!
5+ yrs and 100k miles and I want to buy it again!
I didn't set out to buy this car, or any car until I spotted this at the dealership and fell in love. Walking in with your mouth hanging open probably isn't the best negotiating strategy. This hadn't happened since spotting my 1978 Toyota Celica GT5 right after college! It isn't unusual for people to walk up and ask me about the car and compliment me - it happens every week. Happened just today in fact. Love driving this car and have had very few issues. Handles well and has all the power most mere mortals need. My only issues are minor - one annoying one, the media screen is for some reason unreadable when the dash lights are very dimmed. Not sure what people are complaining about with the seats being uncomfortable... I'm 60 and drive routinely over an hour with zero discomfort. The only repairs were when the buttons on the doors malfunctioned and were promptly repaired under warranty by dealer. Also had a battery die and have to be replaced. Me, I wish I could just turn back the clock and start over with this very same car.

Best Bang for the Buck
I've been watching the GC for a couple years and waited to see first year impressions. After test driving the equivalent Camaro and Mustang, by price, what sold me was the handling of the Genesis. Going fast is nice but where other than the track can you do it legally? However, get the Genesis on some curvy mountain roads and the competitors pale in comparison. I am in love with this car and have no regrets or complaints.
Love it! Love it! Absolutely love it!
I own my Genesis for more than a year. Never regret of buying it. I love my Genesis more and more everyday! I didn't know driving can be so much fun before having my Genesis. Visibility is excellent, controls are easy to use, and the blue lighting in the panel looks very attractive. The backseats are little bit tight (very common in sports car, so not a surprise for me) with limited head space but plenty of leg rooms. My family has domestic, Japanese, and high end German cars. The Genesis Coupe is our first Korean car but it gets the most praises and compliments. Highly recommend the Genesis Coupe to anyone who wants a fun and attractive sports car.
Great first car.
This is a great first purchase. On the used market it hard to beat the value of these cars. You get so much for so little. You get a well laid out interior. Some material quality is questionable, such as the some cheap leather, but most the plastics are soft touch or have a rubber coating. And the exterior is gorgeous in my opinion. You get a great power plant under the hood, that gives other cars of this price a run for the money. Only real issue is the 6 speed transmission, it feels cheap and clunky. Can you live with it daily though? For me, yes. The total value out weighs this one problem. The seats hold you in place very well, and feel nice for the price point.
I still love my Genesis Coupe!
I still own my 2010 coupe and still enjoy driving it as much as the day I bought it. Enough said...can't say that about any other car I've owned. Love the power and speed and still get great looks and compliments. It's just fun to drive!

Cheap yet Expensive parts = Buyer aware
First of all I want everyone to know I love this car. But to my surprise it is very, very expensive to fix this car if there are issues. The warranty is also useless. I went over a speed bump at an odd angle and apparently the Transmission Pan got cracked. IT IS PLASTIC. I had the car towed to the dealership and was thinking that this would be a pretty simple and cheap fix as it is just a pan and fluid replacement. Well guess what. IT cost $1238.00 to replace the cheapo plastic transmission pan. They tried to tell me the fluid costs $70.00 a quart to replace. I was infuriated and had to clean out my savings to pay this rip off bill. The warranty does not cover it of course...
Fast, Fun to drive coupe at a budget price
I love my gen coupe - its fast, its sexy. Not the best looking from the front, but the shape rocks and the rear is superb. Turns more heads than any other car under 50k The 3.8 GT and track features are more than those found on the base models of cars upwards of 30k.. Superb value at its price the rear seat has great legroom, although headroom is limited. Short people and kids will fit in comfortably
My first new car
I had a 2003 Kia that died at 98000 miles so I was nervous at buying a Hyundai. However, the sleek look and the quick burst of the turbo sold me in just one hour! I feel amazing when driving it and I love cruising at 65 mph then hitting the gas without down shifting. I have only seen a few others on the road in my area whereas you see hundreds of civic's on the road daily. My father who was with me at test drive still "ooh's and ahh's" each time I pull-up to his house. All in all a fantastic buy!! 34 average mpg (stop & go freeway traffic mostly) BUT issues I have found is rear view mirror blurs/vibrates at 65mph & bluetooth is not compatible with a LOT of phones!
What a car!
At first glance of the stylish exterior you would think that the Genesis coupe is an upscale Italian designed wonder for the super rich. The car is much more stylish and classy looking in black and white but for the "younger" generation the bright colors make it look extremely young and fresh. I personally love the black and white color choices as well as nixing the spoiler option. The cabin is a lovely place to be and is very quiet and livable with automatic climate, leather and touch screen navigation. The automatic is wonderful as well and the sound of the exhaust is intoxicating willing the driver to push the accelerator down. Steering feel is excellent. Bottom line a driving pleasure!
IN LOVE with this car...Civic SI Convert
27 yo female, I have a 2.0 R-spec, and couldn't love it any more than I do. I previously drove a 2009 Honda Civic SI, and never thought I'd love any car in the same price range more. Well let me tell you, the Genesis beats the SI any day. Granted, there are amenities I wish Hyundai would add to the 2.0 models--I was initially irritated that I couldn't buy a 2.0 model with a 6spd manual transmission AND a sunroof, the R-spec model lacks cruise control and automatic headlights. However, the car is sexy and GORGEOUS (my friends all think it's a BMW at first), it handles like a dream and is incredibly fun to drive. I literally get questions and compliments on it ALL the time. R-spec is awesome!
Not to be expected of Hyundai
Fantastic car to drive. I have had a few longer road trips and the car feels the road like you would expect from a european model of $20K more. I am a tall man 6'3" and sitting in the drivers seat feels extremely comfortable and has great visability. I fell in love with the look from the 2009 model and have received numerous compliments from people. Each one has been shocked this was a Hyundai. The car has aggressive lines and the two-tone interior really adds the extra sportiness to the black exterior. Very happy about my decision.
genesis 2.0 had for two years
I bought this car new 2010. I love it, it gets lots of lookes, excellent handling, excellent braking, fun to drive....only minimal repairs. good sound system. Tranmission (manual) no the greatest, seatbelt position is horrible for short people. Back seat folds down but you only get about 20-24 inches of go through space because of design. Gas mileage disappointment for 2.0 4 cyl...21 in city, 24 highway
Bang for your Buck
Alright first off* I owned nothing but 4door Sedans with All Wheel Drive (AWD) with turbo. If you are transitioning from that kind of rally platform this might be tricky for you. This car is Rear Wheel Driven (RWD). With those things to consider, the Genesis doesn't handle like those platforms-- You don't drive the car in that sense, it drives you. You trust the vehicle with all its electronics (e.g. safety, track control) and also the entering and exiting of turns etc. The rear window feels like driving a 350z or 370z where the visibility is INCREDIBLY low. HOWEVER, if you ARE transitioning from that platform there are way more positives than there are negatives. The interior is amazing if you get the Grand Touring 3.8. Leather seats, Navigation, AMAZING sounds, everything is customizable from the screen. The driver seat is adjustable to your height and comfort. The passenger has A LOT of room, Plenty of foot space, and if they wanted to be on their laptop its VERY spacious for them, however can't say the same for the rear seats (There's seating room but not too much space, but what do you expect? its a 2dr coupe. You should be lucky there's even seats back there *ahem* Nissan 350 *ahem*. This car is fun, its fast, AND it was very affordable.

Best car I've ever owned!
I have owned nearly 30 cars, and the Genesis Coupe is by far my favorite. It's comfortable, fun to drive, reliable (no problems after 30,000 miles), and it looks great. Hyndai name or not, this is one of the best values for the money, and one of the best sports coupes - period - on the market today. It may not be the fastest 0-60, but it sure is quick, and it has amazing handling characteristics. If you are looking for a PURE sports car that is liveable & reliable, this is the car for you. I can't wait to drive this car every day!
Grinning all the way
My wife and I both love this car. We are retired and gave up her 2003 Acura 3.2TL and my 2004 red Z06 Corvette to go to one car we both could live with. Its a great fun car fully loaded with features. Enjoy the spirited, quick and agile drive. Fit and finish is superb and the best warranty in the business. Some details that dont show up on the feature list are side door windows that move down a half inch then up into a groove for a water tight seal when the door is closed. Under the hood it has an ignition coil per plug that bolts down over the spark plug eliminating the plug wire. It has a ram air intake from the front grill through duct work to the air filter.
2nd Hyundai and LOVING IT!
Prior to this car, I was driving a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon Base. Like everyone out there, I was not sure if I wanted to buy a second Hyundai, but, once I drove this car, WOW, that's all I can say. The interior and build quality has improved by atleast 10 folds, from 2004 model and the soft touch is just perfect. The 2.0T, is fast enough to compete with the likes of IS250s, 328i, GTI, and many other high end imports out there. Don't be fooled by the name, Hyundai, has truly made a sport car that everyone can own and drive without, paying premium. If you are looking for a fun car to drive, this is perfect for you!
Great car with nice powers and acceleration.
For the price and reliability this is a nice lil sports coup. I will maintain and keep it for the fun driving and great looks, it ages well. Will be getting a everyday car but tinkering and upgrading the Genesis for the fun.

Features and performance that undercuts the segment.
2nd owner 2011 3.8 RSpec Imola Yellow. After looking at several vehicles and test driving even more at the $20k pricepoint, there's just not a lot of other cars that ticks of as many checkboxes that this does. My only real gripe is the lack of cruise control on the RSpec (but it's standard on the Track edition - wat.) This car compares favorably to the 350/370z, although interior materials fall a bit short of a G35/G37. I can't comment on the stock navi, as the previous owner has replaced it - no complaints with usability however you might want to look to other reviews if this is a must have feature for you.
FLYING OUT THE WINDOW..
This car was my first brand new car I have owned and I had it for a year and one month. I have decided to trade it in. Within the first month the back tail light had a small hole and water was getting in, so I had that replaced, At about 10 months the driver window rotator burned out so my window would not go all the way up and I had to get that replaced. Lastly I was driving back from a road-trip when I hear the "helicopter noise" a car makes when a window is open. I look at my side mirror and see the small backseat window FLY OFF! It literally de glued and flew off the car in the middle of the highway! Clear as to why I am now trading it in. I really loved the car :( w/out all this.
I cant stop looking at it
I had it for exactly a month and a half. It is great! For the money, I could've gotten a used BMW, G35, 350Z, etc., but I wanted a new car. Although I have the 2.0T model which isn't the fastest, I can still have some fun. The interior is extremely driver friendly in my opinion. Since not too many people are aware of this model, I get so much attention/comments when I get on or off the car.
Fun but unrefined
The car is fun to drive and look at, but has many flaws. I've had multiple transmission problems to include a total replacement at 4200 miles. Traction control doesn't work all the time, the bluetooth radio is horrible as it syncs and won't allow calls until complete (which can take 15 minutes each time you get in the car). The paint on my hood had to be buffed and polished due to it being "soft", the speedometer is inaccurate, and Hyundai refuses to act on many of the issues. I would not recommend this vehicle and am in the process of using the lemon law on mine.
"Hey man! What kind of car is that?"
The Genesis Turbo Coupe impresses me. It's A Rear-wheel Drive turbo sports car, just the platform I wanted. The body of the vehicle appears as if it was shaped by the wind. It has an aggressive stance, and it seems to stand out from other cars on the road. It isn't uncommon for someone to ask me what kind of car it is. They've have stopped at lights and rolled their windows down to ask on multiple occasions. One guy even said he followed me for four blocks to ask. Aside from how it looks, mine is a 6-Speed Manual. The car runs strong through the gears/power band and sounds great -it's very satisfying behind the wheel, and luckily the Genesis Turbo Coupe can be easily modified for those who wish for more power. Shifting the Genesis is smooth and easy. The traction control button on this car is extremely important. To the left of the steering wheel there is a button: "TCS" - Traction Control System. If traction control is turned off, you must be careful powering through turns as the wheels are free to spin and slide the back end out. With TCS ON, the wheels use electronic control to prevent them from breaking loose. I have rules: If I'm on the highway, TCS must be ON. If it is raining, TCS ON. Winter time...TCS ON. And don't floor it going into corners...basic RWD rules of thumb. The winter in this vehicle makes for a questionable journey if conditions are very bad. Winter, with snow covered roads, is not fun. It is drivable though if only and inch or two. I've made it though the last 2 mild winters here. I now run snow tires in the winter, I HIGHLY recommend having 2 sets of wheels if you get snow in the winter. OVERALL: The Genesis Turbo Coupe looks incredible, sounds and performs terrific. When treated with care and well maintained, this car is good looking and fun to drive. UPDATE: Year 5 of owning the car now, and I've driven it pretty hard. Not to excess, but I accelerate aggressively and shift around 4k pretty quite a bit. I've changed the oil at 3,000 miles every time with full-synthetic. My last car payment is this month, and I'll own it. The only 'major' repair was it needed a new timing chain at around 115,000 miles, which cost me about $1,500. Be aware: I got lucky. Upon inspecting my timing chain, it has become so loose it actually had enough play to make contact with the 'oil nozzle' that provides oil to the chain and sheared it closed. Had I waited even a few weeks longer, had that chain broke the engine would have been ruined. I also had no warning lights to indicate the issue, only a faint 'rattle' kind of noise that was coming from the chain when shifting into the next gear, and it as I moved through the gears shifting it it become more difficult to make perfectly smooth transitions. Just change the timing-chain at 100,000 miles and you're good. My right front strut is blown I think, too. The suspension could probably be replaced now at 125,000 miles. I've had the little 'bump-stop' noise from the right front strut for about 10,000 miles now. It's very vague, and not urgent. It's a 2010 and people still shout at me across parking lots, "Hey man, what kind of car is that?" I'd do it all over again if I could go back, no regrets with the Genesis Coupe here. ___ Update: 2 new issues. 147,000mi. now on odometer. Small coolant leak from radiator. I cannot seem to see where it is leaking from though yet. It's only losing 1/2 a quart per week, so I've been just adding coolant on the weekends until I locate the leak source. Something is inside the passenger door panel is sliding around. It sounds like a small screw or something inside the door panel. Will soon remove and investigate.

Genesis coupe buyers BEWARE
Got car brand new with 30 miles in odometer, @ 1500 miles dealer replaced tranny under warranty because of grinding gears on 2nd and 3rd gear, after several trips to the dealer tranny still grinds, tried to talked to consumer affairs and so far no responce, do your research before buying this car, this is not an isolated problem many customers complaining with the SAME issue and Hyundai so far have not find a fix for the problem. This is from the 2010 brochure: Triple-cone synchronizers on first through third gears help ensure smooth and durable shifting, whether youre headed up or down through the gears." Smooth??? No way it is smooth, my 2001 honda civic sounds better than this car, durable??? my tranny lasted only 1500 miles. This is just for them to sell you the car, then once you get it they will ingnore you
Drive before you buy!
This auto performs and handles excellant. The problem is the ride ( of course it is a sports car) and the road noise. I own a 1968 RS/SS Camero that rides better. I drove this vehicle 400 miles on interstate and wasn't impress with the quality of ride and road noise. I bought new drove 400 miles and 3 days. In contacting the dealer. He would take it back if I tok a $10,000.00 hit on it. Not a very good deal. Wouldn't recommend. Stick to American sports car.
Hyundai's moving up in the world
Although I've only had mine for a little while, I can still say that the Genesis Coupe is a very impressive effort by Hyundai. Honda, Toyota, and even BMW are probably going have to sharpen their pencils in response to this car. After driving several competitors (and wincing at their prices), I stumbled onto the Coupe. Even if you don't factor in its lower price, the Hyundai is hard to beat: great style, good fuel economy (on regular gas!), just about every option you'd expect (with the Grand Touring option), not to mention terrific power and handling - it all adds up to a great car. I'll admit that time will tell when it comes to resale value, but for now, I'll just enjoy it...
Stay away from the 2.0T
have the 2.0T premium coupe. I've had it for almost 5 months. Beautiful car, fast car, love the navigation (hate the ipod interface), comfy car in the front seats, BUT The sticker of 20/30 mpg is a complete lie. You would have to be going downhill all the time to come close to either of those numbers. When I drive like a grandpa I MIGHT get 16.5mpg in town and 24mpg on the highway. The 5 speed doesnt seem sufficient. ALSO, the T in 2.0T is for Turbo and Turbos use supreme gas only. Personally with the trash gas mileage, slow to shift paddle shifters, crap iPod interface, and supreme gas, I hate that I bought this car and wish I had gone with another.
Comfortable for the Long Haul
I Purchased mine on 06/20/2009. I drive 90 miles a day round trip. I find the ride very comfortable and relaxing to drive. It performs just like or better than my XJS Jaguar ever did. The handling on the curves, is like riding on a rail. I find the acceleration is there everytime you hit the gas. No slow response from the engine, it's up and running before you know it. I do recommend when you buy this car you better buy a radar detector, because you get lost with speed of the car and feel as if your not traveling at a high rate of speed, even though, you really are. It's a must buy if you like a fast running, head turning, hand waving, second look fun driving car. And yes it's a HYUNDAI.
Genesis Coupe 2.0T
Just picked up at the dealer yesterday, traded in a 2009 Sonata, the Sonata is a well made luxery family sedan but when my new Genesis Coupe turned the corner I said to my wife this is a Hyundai? From first glimpse you can tell this car is special. Turn the key and the motor purrs like a big cat. It handles like a dream and stops on a dime. This car is for anyone who ever wanted a nice sports car without the big ticket price. Hyundai has scored a winner here!
It Sold Itself
While my wife and I was looking for a decent economy car for our daughter, we bought one of the best driving experiences I've ever had. The steering is tight and precise, and the turbo is more than quick enough for a normal commuter dodging cell-phone-users on the interstate. People in every parking lot I've been in stare at it. The fact it's a Hyundai blows them away. The only downside for me is that it is my daughter's...
Great car for the money
Frist of all this is a great car. If you are going to buy it, make sure you shop around first, I got my Genesis Coupe for $18,500 + tax, title, processing fee. The turbo model is great, it's not super fast but it has enough power with great handling and great looks. I get about 420-450 miles per tank of gas, that is great for a sport car. The interior is beautiful, comfortable, and the whole cars looks great. No other car out there in this class can offer you the options, looks, and fun this that this car gives you. I have people stop and check out my car while it's parked, that says it all. I can't wait to go to work in the morning just so I can drive my Genesis, love this car.
Driving the first Genesis Coupe in town
Happened to be on the lot when this one arrived at local dealership. Looking for replacement of Elantra totaled this week. It catches your eye immediately. First thoughts, this isn't a Hyundai, but do the walk around and you know. They have really taken this one up a notch. This is the seventh Hyundai for our family and my son has a Tibaron GT. The Tibaron is great but really doesn't compare to the Coupe as far as I am concerned. Drivability is excellent and exciting. Front seat comfort is great and back really isn't terrible, what you'd find in any coupe. As a female I am loving the thought that I know what I've got under me. Drive one, you'll see! Parents, drive before you buy for a child
Ridiculous value
I've only had this for a short while, but everything about this car has met my high expectations. For Hyundai's first venture into the performance arena, the Genesis Coupe is a stellar debut. With comparable equipment, the Infiniti G37 listed out over $10K more & the only real edge I'd give the G37 is in the aesthetics of the interior design. The Gennie Coupe is comfortable, quick off the line & navigating in traffic, nimble in maneuvering, & very stylish---talk about turning heads on the road! I would definitely recommend it as a quality performance car that represents a clearly superior value to anything in its price range, & it can compete with others priced several thousand dollars more.
Good car
Better than the Tiburon only problems pin holes in tran cooler other wise no problems ,fun to drive plan on keeping it. Grew up driving mopar muscle , then supras and now this.
They Broke the Code!
OMG! I am a 62yo professional who's had lots of luxury and a little performance, and this Genesis Coupe is the hottest thing I've ever had, in so many ways! People ogle it! I love the way it responds to my subtlest tickling of the pedals and steering wheel! Great acceleration, nimble as a cheetah, and so well-balanced it's a dream to drive, easy or hard. Love it! The fit, finish, and style of every little detail is unsurpassed! And the car is intelligent! It wouldn't even allow my wife to lock the key in the trunk--it knew it was there! Mileage on regular gas is far better than I expected, and the engine has a great sound. No detractors! I could sell these things!!
The car!
If you're in the market for a sports car this is it! Drove all the American muscle, very big and clumsy. The Genesis' coupe suspension and steering is tight and nimble, throttle response is fantastic and the paddle shifters are responsive for the money. Can't believe this is a Hyundai. They have come a long way from the 80's when they manufactured crap. Go test drive one and you won't have to read another review. The Genesis coupe speaks for itself! Under normal driving conditions leave the traction control on or you may leave a skid mark and not the kind you find on the road.
Fun to drive, poor fuel economy
Upgraded to this car from a 2001 Toyota Celica. Like the looks, fun to drive, but the fuel economy is a sham. Best MPG so far is 20mpg on the highway with cruise control on. My Celica got 30+ doing the same driving. Paint is already chipping on the bumper. Also, a creaking/clunking noise started in my rear axle/wheel hub area TWO MONTHS after purchase. I researched this car top to bottom along with the Accord, went for the "fun" car and I regret my decision.
Very, very fun
I waited a while to review and after almost a year the car is wonderful. Chopped off the resonator for a bit more power and changed to a k&n intake, but other than that stock. Car is quick, not fast. Handling is superb. Very reliable, no issues. Can't wait to take it to a track day and see what it can do in a safe environment. Great for 2 people but back seat is only for storage. Paddle shifters are in the wrong place though, should be mounted on to the column instead of the steering wheel making it clumsy. Use the sequential gearbox instead. This is a great car until I go get a vette or a jag s-type. You won't think it is a Hyundai.
Love it, but not unconditionally
Love the car overall but it does have limitations. Car handles and drives great and looks even better. Love the saddle leather interior though seats are very firm. Ride is a little rough, when coupled with road noise makes any trip over an hour tiresome with back/butt aches. GT was $27k out the door (incl the $500 military rebate), VERY well equipped for the price. Cockpit feel is great with everything within easy reach but has limited storage. Clutch is VERY hard to master- HATE IT! Very difficult to shift smoothly w/o skipping gears to improve smoothness(i.e. going 1-3-5 or 2-4-6 instead of 1,2,3,4...). Was a die-hard 6-spd guy, now I'm cured. Nav is easy to use but screen is a tad bit small
I was fooled for months.
I purchased my 2010 Genesis coupe 2.0T on April 8th.2009. I bought a base coupe automatic and added the rear spoiler, fog lights and front chrome myself that came as a trim option on the 3.8 models. First of all, I drove by my local Hyundai dealership for 2 months and there were 2 red coupes on display right in the front. Everytime I would drive by I'd question why Hyundai was promoting 2 Nissan Z sports cars on their lot, seemed like glutening for punishment to me. Then on a Sunday evening in late March of 2009, I decided to stop and look at these 2 cars with my wife and our son. When we parked our Jeep some odd 20 ft. away, the 1st. thing I noticed was, these aren't Nissans at all! These are Hyundais! Little did my wife or son know, but I told myself I'm buying on of these cars. Not one of the two sitting there, but a Genesis coupe in general. I wasn't fond of the red version and they worked with me to find the color I wanted, I told them either a white one, or a blue one, even a silver was fine, but not red. They found what i was looking for which was a base model Silverstone silver in Danville VA some 375 miles away. I agreed on the price and put a down payment on it and they told me to look at it further online and I could see exactly what I was purchasing. The one main point about the car that stood out to me, was it only had 15 miles on the odometer. The salesman said he was sending two guys there to trade out one of their red models for the silver one I was buying and would drive it back to my hometown and their dealership. I looked at the salesman and said, no thanks, I don't want the car then. He looked baffled and got a little upset and he asked me why not? I told him that the car I was purchasing had only 15 miles on it, not 390 miles on it. He looked at me and laughed, then said, you are going to let 375 miles of it being driven back here, keep you out of buying this beautiful car, I looked at him and I then laughed and said, no sir, you are. I walked out of the showroom and before I could get to my Jeep, he stopped me and said, we will send a car hauler to VA to bring it back and assured me that it would have 15 miles on it once it arrived here. The evening it was on its way back, the roll back it was traveling on was sending updates of it's location and eta back to the dealership. Once they arrived with the car, they called me to come to the dealership to pick it up. Not onky did I pick it up, but I also backed it off the hauler as so if it turned from 15 to 16 miles then at least it would have been myself putting that mile on it, and not their driver. I owned this car from April of 2009 until October of 2022. During this time, I put 46000 miles on it. That was all. The car had never been smoked in, it had never had a passenger ever ride in the back. The back seatbelt restraints still were wrapped in the factory plastic. I never used the embroidered floor matts, I had put them away and put a cheaper carpet floor matt in it to use. I sold the car in October of 2022 for $13000.00 with 46000 miles on it and a one owner at that. I had the window sticker, and all available paperwork that came with the car at the point of which I sold it 2 months ago. I never once had any mechanical failure of any kind with the car. It was by far the best handling car I've ever driven. It wss like riding on a rail. The factory potenza tires it's fitted with are the most perfect tire for that car. The front tires are slightly more narrow than the rear wheel drive powered tires are. The rear has a wider footprint and stance with the road. I absolutely loved the car, the stereo system was adequate and I found it loud and most importantly, it had a clean crisp sound to it. I would advise that a person become familiar with the car before turning the traction control device off. I did not get very familiar with it and decided to take the traction control off and shift through the gears myself, needless to say, once I shifted from 1st to 2nd gear, the rear wheel drive little beast got away from me and I lost complete control and spun it completely around. The greatest thing about this car is that, it's a blast to drive, it's soo mych fun to run around town in. This 2.0T has unbelievable top end speeds within it, the car is registered 160 and I can honestly say, I had mine 149 miles per hour. Some V8 cars and their drivers didn't like me much, although I'd struggle in the take off and mid range speeds and performance, I made up for in top end. The Dodge Challenger V8 would have an advantage over me in take off, would carry a 2 sec advantage through the mid gears and range, but when I'd hit 6th gear and that turbo was glowing bright red, the Challenger was pegged out at 136 mph and I would drive right around them and continue to increase distance on them. V8s or their drivers don't care much for that. Yes, obviously I wasn't racing Hemi hellcats but was still running V6 and V8s very competitively. Bottom line, this car handles with the best of them, runs with the best of them, has looks with the best of them, and is as reliable of a sports coupe as you would find on the road then, and now. The only downside I had for the 2010 models, was Hyundai didn't find it as a priority to outfit the interior dash cluster with individual gauges for the oil pressure, water temp, the volts, or a turbo boost gauge. These were added in later models but not the first few years of production. The 2.0T is much more versatile than the 3.8 and has a greater upswing to increase and add power and performance to it's engine than the V6 has. If you have a chance to purchase one that hasn't been used too badly and abused too much, I'd encourage you to go for it. They are really tons of driving fun to have.

My Butt Hurts
Comfort is lacking. This is my only main complaint. I had to keep changing my butt cheeks after 4hrs. Horrible side support are like rocks.Gas mileage is next. The best I could do was 28 full highway. When a V6 Accord or Camry can provide better performance in a straight line and achieve above 32 mpgs.....hmmmm. Not a very efficient motor from the Mitsu Evo group. Should have bought a v6 accord coupe. Thought it was quick until a Mini Cooper S was coming up on me at full throttle. Now it is just a daily commuting vehicle.
Poor interior quality
The interior, door panels, arm rest, glove box door, leaves marks that can not be removed. The factory is looking in to this. It is a big factor and poor quality.
Don't buy a Hyundai Genesis
We bought a new Genesis coupe in 2011. This is the worst mistake of our lives. It is by far the cheapest vehicle we have ever owned. The ride is so stiff and uncomfortable. We don't dare take it on long trips. The road noise is so bad you can't even hear the stereo or hear yourself think. The interior is so cheap just touching the interior causes marks that will not come off. The navigation system has taken us to places we never programed it for. After owning it for just a few months we had to take it back to the dealer to have the seats replaced because the stain on the leather was wearing off and white spots are coming thru. The transmission is very difficult to shift. Don't buy!
love my Genesis Coupe
Best Toy anyone could ever buy with 32k.
I've been waiting for this coupe to come out since last winter. M3, Infinity G37, Mustang were on my list, and I tested them all. M3 is not a daily commuter, it is more a race car on the track, so I passed. G37 I liked, yet the styling was too plain. Mustang was a nice car, yet everybody already has one. Then I got into Gen. Coupe. The first impression was stunning. Then I test drove it, I was sold. It was the perfect balance between M3 and Lexsus IS 350. It has great low end power, smooth all the way to 6500 rpm. I had so much fun in the Topanga Canyon Road next to PCH in Malibu. I was not much a fan of Hyundai, but ask me now, gotta say I'm a big fan. Gotta drive one to believe it
This is a Hyundai?!?
If you are looking at this car, make sure you drive the track model. I drove the touring and liked it, but the Track Model blew me away. I first looked at the 2.0t. i liked the power, but thought it needed a little more. Should be an easy fix for anyone willing to make a couple changes, but I prefer my warranty. The 3.8 has plenty of power to spare though. Turn the traction control off and the rear end swings out easily. The car picks up great and the throaty growl of the engine is awesome when you get on the gas. There is minimal body roll and the car stays composed as you fly around the corners. The big 4 caliper Brembos scrub off the speed in a hurry too.
