I recently took a trip and averaged 41.5 mpg. I get a lot of compliments on the style. Great safety accessories.

Have to open door to shut off dash display

This is my third Hyundai and I have been well pleased with the mileage, dependability and almost zero recalls on all three. The gas mileage indicator is not a true indication of actual mileage. When I want to check my actual mileage, I always reset my odometer to zero after a tank fill up. With the 2018 Elantra, I get around 40 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving and 37 mpg with city only driving. I now have 5,800 miles on this car. The aggravating problem that I don't like is the way the ignition key and dash display is wired. I often park and turn the ignition to lock, removing the key and continue to sit in the driver's seat while my wife shops. After a few minutes the battery discharge warning comes on and I have to open and shut the driver's door to power down the dash display. Occasionally, I find the trunk lid open because my key has accidentally bumped into something in my pocket. This was also happening in my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. We're afraid to put valuable items in the trunk due to this problem. The plastic panels at the bottom of the door frames scratch easily and I don't believe they are high quality material.

A car set up to fail!

elantra has a major design flaw. I have the 2018 Elantra and The grille has no mesh and is wide open. I've only owned the car for 2 months and my AC went out and their trying to make me pay 800 dollars for repairs because a rock hit the unprotected condesner and it's not covered under warranty because an object came through the wide open grill and hit it. So now every few months I'm supposed to pay 800 dollars??

Because it was late spring when I purchased this car I wasn’t thinking about driving it in the snow. My 2009 Hyundai Elantra did great in the snow. I could drive through 5 inches of it and be perfectly fine. It handled great in it. Because this car is so much lower and wider, it’s terrible in snow. The traction control must of came on 20 times on my way home from work with out first snow fall. It sounds crazy but I probably would have looked for a vehicle that was a little higher off the ground if I had thought of this. Otherwise is a good car so far. I was so fond of my last one that this one hasn’t yet grown on me. It handles great around turns. Lots of room, very comfortable. Never felt uncomfortable riding in the car for long road trips. Very stylish. There’s not that much storage space. Cup holders are limited.
