2000 Hyundai Accent
Reliable basic transportation.
Love my GS
Bought new as a drive-to-work car. Had 2 minor problems long ago-throttle sensor and driver window motor. Fast fixes under warranty. I've treated it well and it has returned the favor. This is not a race car nor an SUV so you can't abuse it. I suspect this is where most oil and other problems come from. Changed oil every 3-5K, the timing belt at 45K service. Clutch pedal throwout bearing started minor chattering at 65K. Warranty covered and dealer did clutch (not needed but did it while warranty covered disassembly and reassembly). Won't set records but accelerates just fine. 33 mpg city, 36- 43mpg highway depending on grade of gas. Age is setting in but it is still strong. Never leaked.
Sudden DEATH AT 80,000 miles
I bought my Hyundai used in January 2005. It had 74,000 miles. I couldn't have been happier with it until one day the timing belt broke, which broke our engine. $2,000 to repair it and it only had 80,000. I've only had it for 7 months and I'm questioning if it is worth fixing!
Fantastic Car Warranty and Price
after driving and breaking in my Hyundai ,I find it to be a great little car fro the mrs or car pool . For average size people 6 ft or so there is plenty of room front and rear ,I drive 65 plus to work with 3 or 4 people in the car with out problems , I do recommend after a 3,000 mile break in use CD-2 Engine treatment seems to add 20 HP. I also installed a K&N air cleaner ,now the 75 MPH and above are Yours. Am-Fm cassette is Good ,fold down back seat is nice ~Car rides good. I'm a very Happy Camper with my Hyundai so Far .
America's best warranty? Bull!
I could get over the small and cramped cabin and complete lack of power thanks to the amazing fuel mileage, but my tolerance for this car ended the same day the 5 year bumper-to- bumper warranty did. We always did the scheduled maintenance on it, but minor problems were always cropping up (these were covered by the warranty). However, once the vehicle turned 5 years old, major issues appeared, ranging from loud whining noises to shifting problems and constant brake replacements. After several months of $1200+ repairs, the final straw occurred when the engine caught fire leaving my wife stranded on the highway. (not covered) At 6 years old and approx 80K miles we finally got rid of it
below average car
bought the car brand new, and not worth the money. Once you go over 100 k or so, expect a lot of problems. Baseline model, do not expect much from the car. Just a box on wheels.
Great Little Car
I purchased this car five years ago when it was five years old and I haven't had any major problems, just minor repairs. The car is great on gas and the repairs I have done have been cheap. My only complaint is that the car is gutless and has a hard time making it up hills. This was my first car and I would purchase this car again!
Love it! Its like my baby
This car is a blast to drive. I bought it used with 116k miles, have had it for 3 years and its still going strong. Only a few maintenance issues here and there but can make long distant drives fine with higher miles! Although my car does not have a rpm gauge on the dash, I learned to drive it by ear. Its my baby and i love it so much!
the worst car i ever had-don't buy one!
1. i been to the dealership about 12 times so far for all kinds of problems. 2. the warranty is great if you want to live in the dealership for all kinds of problems. 3. hyundai usa would not include me in the warranty extension program that they came out with because of the mistake they made with the horsepower rating of their cars. 4. the dealership service is terrible. the mechanics brake more things than they fix. 5. do yourself a favor an "do not buy this car" even if it seems cheap. the reason why the car is terrible is because is cheaply made. In the end you get what you paid for, nothing more nothing less. i learned my lesson.
Bought another one!
I bought my Accent new for a 36 mile each way commute to work outside the city and it never let me down in 5 years. When the transmission started making an odd sound at 80,000 miles, the dealer replaced it in 2 days without a quibble. I drove it in all weather conditions at freeway speeds daily. I enjoyed it so much we just bought a brand new Sonata and my husband inherited the Accent for a work car. It has over 100,000 miles and is still running fine.
VERY GOOD CAR!
I got this car brand new and after 6 years the only thing that went bad was the MAF. can't complain its a good car. I do recommend follow the maintenance so you don't had to deal with mayor repairs in a future, for me is working like a charm!
Worst car ever!
This car has been nothing but trouble since day one. My mother bought me the car when i was in highschool and the oil was burning, so the valve cover gasket was replaced. oil continued to burn so we replaced all gaskets... oil then magically disappeared. no spots on the ground and no residue on the engine, and is still doing this 3 years later. at about 100000 both CV axles busted, gas mileage went downhill, the AC fan in the cab broke, the engine now makes an odd whining noise and i can't seem to figure out why. car smells like mildew every time it rains, but i can't find any wetspots. breaks squeak nonstop even if new. I will never ever buy a Hyundai again this car is a living nightmare.
I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GET ONE!
The 2000 Accent GL 4 door/automatic was the first used car I've bought, but it's been the most RELIABLE! Bought it with 45K, now it has 70K on it. I love it so much! It's fun to drive, and more reliable than any of the new vehicles we've ever bought... maybe that's because it's a foreign- made car. Those Koreans really know how to make cars! Hyundai (along with Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi) knows how to make American automakers look like garbage! I think I'll do all of my car-buying with Hyundai now. I've been so pleased with their customer service when the seat belt locked up. It wasn't under factory warranty at that point, but they fixed it under the warranty anyway.
buyer beware!
the car is almost 3 years old... it has been in the shop atleast 5 times in the last year..the dash lights go off and on... the dealer can not find the problem. the alternator has been replaced once and currently being replaced again. you have to go to the dealer for parts , airfilter, timing belt, transmission fluid. it is sad that you can not go to a local parts store to get simple items as i just listed. the clearcoat is coming off of the front bumper. i have checked into lemon law and unable to pursue due to age and mileage...currently 60,000.
Warranty is Worthless
The car was ok at first. When, I moved north and commuting 80 miles a day(highway)trouble started. The car lost control allot even going slow. Parts cost allot and are only avail through Hyundai. The car started running poorly once the miles started going up. Final straw was a minor repair that cost 200. Only a dealership 1 hour away would look at my car & I was w/o it for 3 days because the closer ones couldnt be bothered and normal repair shops wouldnt do the work. BTW it wasnt covered under warranty and they blamed the place I had my oil changes done till someone from there called them. You get what you pay for!
You get what you pay for
I've had this car for 3 years and had to replace the brakes and roters twice already. I've never had a car go through brakes this fast. I just found out that have have to replace the harmonic balancer.(not cheap and no longer under warrenty). I have had other work done on it while it was under warrenty. It seems like an awful lot is going wrong with this car for it's age. I have to replace the flex pipe as well. I guess you get what you pay for. In the future I will spend more initially to have a fewer problems and hassles later.
Worst car I ever purchased!!!!
I bought it new, and always had problems, it burns oil (not a leak) i have to check it every week. The hood hinge broke, it doesn't shift right, even the clock and radio are broken. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. And the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty is crap! Anything that goes wrong, they say "that's not covered". The parts are expensive and for most of them you have to purchase from the dealer.
Good Overall Grocery Getter
I bought this car new after a recommendation from a friend. Overall good quality. It was in the shop once for a mass air flow sensor. Very good gas mileage, and not too uncomfortable. I'm 6'2 and can ride comfortably. Brakes are fantastic, 38,000 on the first front pads, and 53,000 and going on the rear shoes.
Economical
I bought this car because I needed a cheap, reliable, high fuel economy car. In the 21 months I had this car, I took it to the dealership two times for check engine light, once for flex hose on exhaust, strut leak and brake line leak and replaced the front brake pads twice. Needless to say, it fails in the reliability catagory. Considering the price, I should have suspected as much.
right
bought w/32k in dec 04, its noisy (weather stripping stinks) the dash sounds like a kitten, rear struts squeak (probably leak), replaced oil dipstick at 37k(rust...hmm?) mass air flow sensor at 43k, remapped the computer (whatever that means) 2nd & 3rd gear grind, driver and passenger side window rattle when down, speedometer or tach make noise, cup holders in a odd place.new front brakes at 48k.warranty is up in jan 06 eek!...so whats next to fix!
Never again...!!
I bought the Accent GL as my first 'brand new' car. From January 31 to April 20,2000 it was in the shop 4 times for the transmission, it was slipping as it shifted. Every time they told me that they found the problem and it was done but after having the car home for less than a day the same thing was happening so I had to bring it back again with the same result every time. Also, I took the car from RI to MD (350miles)and back one weekend and when I went out to start it for work Monday morning, it wouldn't start so yet again, I had to have them put it in the shop. I wouldn't ever buy this car again!!
Should be Called Accident
Oooh the pain of owning an accent. Oil seems to magically disappear in this car. Standard transmission pops out of gear all the time. Master cylander replaced twice, brakes twice, oil constantly, rusting already can't wait to get rid of it. Warranty useless, product useless avoid this car like the plague that it is!
horrible engine
At about 57,000 miles the car stopped on me and a " new" engine was replaced a t Diamond Hyundai. They had it 5 weeks as they had to get the engine from Korea. Today at 138,000 which is almost 80,000 miles on the "new" engine I find that my car has done the same thing... just stopped. Both times ,the mechanic has said that the timing belt broke and that the pistons and values were bad. What is wrong with this fraudulent engine ??? oh and the last mechanic has told me that the engine put in last time at Diamond Hyundai is not a new nor manufactured engine. They lied and did not need to ahve my car for 5 weeks as it did not obviously come from Korea. Maybe the local junk yard.
Great car for the price
This is the best new car you can buy. I got this as my first car and I dont regret it. Great fuel economy. If you're tall like I am.. make sure the person sitting behind you is small :- ). I've had mine for over 2 years.. and I've had no major problem.. I drive it a bit rough.. so had to get brakes changed.. other than that, I've had no problem. Even had an accident and I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the safety. Bottom line.. GREAT new car on a limited budget.
Owned one for 5 years-Good car
I bought this car used with 18,000 miles in Jan 2002. Car now has 67,325 mi. Very reliable after the first couple times in the shop the first year I owned it. Needed Mass air flow sensor to stop pinging & some automatic transmision shifter sensor found in TSB to smooth out shifting. Great city car, great gas milage. Car has functioned extremly well no problems. Brakes and tires around 42,000 mi. Very basic low cost transportation. I have been very pleased.
High depreciation means used car bargain
I bought this car with 16K on it although it had been in service for three years. I purchased for $4,900 from a Nissan dealer who took in on trade. It looks and drives like new and is bumper to bumper warrantied until 60K or five years. I have found it to be very pleasant, much quieter than other similar basic transportation. While it does not accelerate very quickly, it cruises on the highway very solidly and comfortably at 70 mph. Seats are very comfortable. Radio sounds great. Feels zippy around town. Perfect for a basic, no frills commuter car--and risk free if you buy a low mileage used one.
I WOULD BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI!
I AM VERY PLEASED WITH MY CAR. IT WAS DIRT CHEAP AND ALMOST NEW. THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE IS THE SMALL TIRES BUT A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS FOR BIGGER RIMS AND TIRES AND SHE'S PERFECT. I AM A BMW OWNER AND I KNOW ABOUT SHIFTING, HANDLING, PERFORMANCE WHEN I DRIVE A CAR. IT DOES ALL VERY VERY WELL. IT'S BEEN 4-5 MONTHS IT RUNS PERFECT, NO PROBS WITH ANYTHING. I WAS GOING FOR VARIOUS YR 2K ENTRY CARS LIKE THE FORD FOCUS, PROTEGE,COROLA, ETC.. I TEST DROVE THEM ALL AND THE ACCENT WAS SUPRISINGLY BETTER IN ALL ASPECTS! REAT DEAL. I WAS SICK OF MY BMW'S SUCKING ALL MY HARD EARNED SAVINGS MONTHLY IN MAINTENANCE & REPAIR! HYUNDAI PARTS ARE A WELCOME CHANGE!
frijss
I bought my hyundia in 2000. The reason i bought it was for the warranty it turns out you really need it. I had no problems the first year of ownership. Just after a year it seems like i was at the dealership every couple of months. Some work was under warranty. Some wasn't . I wouldn't consider buying another one in the future.
would never buy a hyundai again
This car has been in the shop 3 times for various things that were covered under warranty, along with another hyundai we have that has been in the shop twice.
Hyundai Lies About Its Warranties
I faithfully serviced my car at the dealer but immediately after servicing it for a problem, they left me stranded in the desert w/the same problem just after the first warranty ran out. Before the 2nd warranty expired, it burned and leaked oil like crazy. I had to fight Hyundai tooth and nail for everything. If anyone buys a Hyundai & believes their ads, they're missing a chromosome. Spend the extra money & buy a HONDA or anything else.
Owned one for 9 years without problems
I bought new. This is my third car.I am inlove with it till now. If you make the services on the time,it will never leave you on the road. Until now,the counter says: 172000 klm and it goes on. I haven't until now any serious problems. I have change a set of clutch disc at 110000 klm and four shock absorbers at 100000 klm. But in my opinion, this is normal for a car that keep mooving. I take care my car, so it takes care of me. I know that I have an ordinary car but now I'm sure that this is a really good car. It's a great value for money.
It is what it is
This is a quality commuter car. Despite its slight appearance, it will take a beating and keep delivering. Mileage is great and the annual maintenance cost is minimal. An ideal car for those with a long commute, or a good first car for a teenager.
Accent
Good car for the money
First Hyundai
Three years and 38000 miles with no problems.Consistantly hit 40 mpg on highway & average 35 around town. This car is no sports car, but for the money I couldn't be happier. Just changed original tires with Coopers & what a difference in ride, noise and handling. Hyundai I am impressed so far with your entry level car.
Not a pocket rocket, Not a fuel hog.
With today's struggle over fuel costs, consumption, and supplies. It is a great value to have ownership of one of these little cars. The Accent has good lines and really good airflow which allow it to move down the road with very little wind resistance, making it feel as though you're barely moving while you fly down the road. It has the capability to corner on a dime, although it would not be recommended that you do so at speeds higher than 25mph as the narrow wheel base makes the experience feel a bit unstable. The fuel economy of this vehicle makes a drive from Illinois to Virginia still seems reasonable even with our current fuel crisis. The ride is a smooth one. I would recommend this car.
Do not buy Hyunday Accent
Five times in repair shop for different reasons. After 75000 miles burns oil.
I have one!
I own one of these cars. although i tinted the windows and put a few small in-expensive little gagets, like seat covers, window stickers, and just kinda tricked it out a little bite, i love driving my car, its great on gas, so i dont have to stop at every station i see. YOOHOO!handles great on wet and snowy roads, thats the front wheel drive doing its thing! although, it gets great gas mileage on the HWY 400+ miles,to A TANK, i can handle the 250-270 miles A TANK In town driving. i love this car. its agreat car for a single person,, or if you dont want to haul all your friends around for free. three friends and yourself, thats plenty in one car, great car overall. I love my car
Great car for the money!
This car is excellent in just about every way. I have to try the new tires some of you suggested. It helps to be going downhill but the car moves right along. I have no complaints. I bought it for the gas milage, not the horsepower. (obviously) Car looks much better than the older ones. Great inside and out.
My Best Car Ever
I brought this car brand new, it now has 147,000 miles and still running. With gas prices nowadays I can not complain at 33 mpg. I am currently looking for a 2008 but .. Hmm I love my car and don't want to sell or trade in. I guess I'll keep it for one more year.
Fantastic Little Car
reliable, wonderful mileage (37 HWY, 30 CTY). puchase w/out CD, PWR windows, locks, mirrors, cruise control-minor factors. overall, great buy. good design. spacious trunk. MOON ROOF. decent acceleration. 62,000 miles, $4,200. great car for the money. i don't like the steering wheel (personal preference: i like to steer from the bottom). minimal body damage, easy oil change, good tires. bad sound system, but i bought a new one to put in. good design. i'll never buy another american car. i absolutely love it. interior is a little ugly, but i can deal. i suggest you buy this car, it's cheap, reliable, pretty, fuel efficient (i fill up every 10 days, and i commute 30 miles to work every day).
you get what you pay for
By far the worst car I have ever owned. If it was'nt for the hatchback feature the car would be useless. Its so bad that the people at the service center not only know me on a first name basis they recognize my voice when I call to make appointments. This car is mechanically inferior and what is the point of 32 miles per gallon if you have to fill up 3 or 4 times a week because the tank is so damn small.
Why I hate my Hyundai
Sunroof leaks, heater broke, replaced rear wiper motor twice in 1 year ($400each), the brakes completely and calipers? twice in 2 years. I have also replaced the exhaust, the clutch which when it broke damaged the transmission so badly i had to replace both. Also goes through oil like crazy. Spend about $3500 per year on repairs. Doors swing back and slam on your legs as well. Oh loses power trying to go up even small hills. Also bought for $10000 was worth $2500 within 2 years. I hate this car. it is currently in for repairs again. Horrible car. would be great if it ran. Ever. Not worth it even for free, use the money you save on repairs to go on a vacation
don't be fooled; this car is not safe
Do not buy this car for your teenage driver. The handling is poor - coupled with the small, narrow tires, this makes the car unsafe. I had the exact same accident two years in a row - lost control on a slick patch on the freeway and banged up the bottom of the car but good. Each time, I know I would not have skidded in practically any another car. The second accident totalled the car - I'm fine, but it could have been really bad. This car is cute and fun, I'll give it that, but should you get this car, it's probably a really good idea to get bigger, better tires and not drive too fast (i.e., not faster than 55 mph) or be fooled by the "zippy" feel.
80,000 miles and not one problem
I bought my Accent new and it has been used as a commute to work car ever since. The only extras are the AC and the rear spoiler. My vechile is about to reach the 80,000 mile mark in just 3 1/2 years with not a single breakdown or problem. I enjoy driving and maintaining so the manual tranny and easy engine layout fit me fine.
My Red Rocket
Just surprised at the avg. rating of 5.8. I inherited this from my daughter (had to have a firebird). No major problems so far (first 45,000 miles). Any other issues have been taken care of by the dealership and they have been great. I wish a little more power, but I sacrifice that for great mpg. I wish cruise was an option but not for mine. No knocks, little more road noise then higher priced cars but the warranty is so super. I have thought about other cars but cannot convince myself to get rid of this gem. I highly recommend this car
Not bad for the price
I bought this car to go to and from work, thats it...With auto and air and the warranty you cant beat the price..
NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
I was in and out of the dealers for lots of problems you can say about 10 times a year. Well I have the car no more, someone was not paying attention to the road and rear ended going about 40 mph I was at a complete stop well my car was totaled, the trunk was smashed and both drivers and passenger side were buckled all the way to the front bumper. Not repairable at all, the in surance co only wants to pay 4500 and I owe 6500 they are cheap but dont stand up in a crash and what its worth after you drive off the lot, ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT buy the right car
safety in an accident
We were in a car crash that involved a wall with three kids in the back seat, NOT A SINGLE PERSON WAS INJURED. . . they car took all the force of the collision so that we were uninjured. . . That one accident sold me on that. . . sure it could have more guts and other stuff, but you can't buy a cheap car and think how safe it truly is. . .
Be Prepared for Panic
Our unfortunate and frightening experience of owning this car. We feel as though it is unsafe. On three different occasions, after about an hours driving on highways, All in a sudden "BAMM" Scared, thinking we hit something, after the car suddenly jerks, as in "the whole car locked up instantly. What would have happened if we were on ice or a curve? The third time in the shop the computer, relay and a connector was found to be the problem. Make sure you keep good maint. records. Now we are left with a car driven 15,738 miles on their assumtion it was OK. Will this car last? I found large metal shavings and a thick grit in the trans. pan. More important. IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE?
ECONOMICAL AND RELIABLE
I bought it for the 5 years warranty and never regret it. It runs very well, I did not have any problem at all in 3 years. It is not very powerful, but it is a good choice for somebody looking for a reliable and economical transportation. I went all around California, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico with my car!
