Hummer basics
Nice vehicle. Great in snowy conditions. Interior is roomy. Small enough for city traffic and parking-versatile enough for rural terrain and unimproved roadways.

I love my H3
This is a great vehicle. Traded in a Isuzu Trooper. This thing feels like a race car. Ride is stiffer than a normal SUV. Off road it feels very safe and stable. Traction both accelerating on ice and braking on snow/ice is excellent. I have owned nothing like it in the past. Rear visibility somewhat less than normal but huge outside rear view mirrors help out greatly. Gas mileage is right on based on the window sticker. It took 5000 miles to get that. Might even get better, who knows.

64,000 and going
Bought new in March of 2006, since then we have had 3 bad winters in a row, it is one tough SUV in the snow, no problems even in new 14" snow that hasn't been plowed. Only problem, portion of the left fender on rear driver side door paint came off. Other than that no problems. Great driver in any weather. By the way still have the original Bridgestone tires, they will make it through one more winter. I will put the same Bridgestone tires back on it.
Poor Front End
I got an H3 2 weeks ago and it had a bad vibration...The selling dealer exchanged it for another H3...This one has an alignment problem that the dealer says it cannot fully remedy because of a problem in the rear. So now Im' 2 for 2 with disappointment...I hope GM takes this lemon back
Fun to lease, but not to own!
I leased this H3 base model in white because the side of the vehicle is great for advertising my business. I leased it for 3 years and after 2.5 years I've been satisfied with it.I am 6'2" and have more than enough leg room and head room. The truck rides nicely and the interior materials are high quality. I live 1 mile from my office so mpg is not a big deal and neither is torque. This vehicle is definitely underpowered for it's weight. If I had a longer commute I would not have leased it. Unbelieveably good in the snow. The turning radius is so tight parking lots are a breeze. After 2 years I've begun to notice the typical GM build quality issues such as squeaks and rattles.
H3 A Solid Choice (but)...
I have owned my H3 for a year now and racked up 14,000 miles so I think I can say it is an exceptional vehicle. I see ratings dragged down everywhere by test-drivers and tree huggers but when you are considering a new suv guesses and fairy tales should not be good enough. In a word it is a solid 8 for anyone other than a moterhead speed freak and a 10 for on / off road mixers... Sadly - it is and will always be both a GM and a low end model under the hood so until the design a specific v6 for it - you will be risking your money (as with any GM)... The only real problem is the weight and some pushing on neg. camber turns...
My 2006 MEGSHMR!!!!!
I absolutely love my screaming red H3. Almost everything about it is wonderful. The only complaint I will voice is with regard to the stereo. Within weeks of purchasing my H3 the coating on the stereo/radio buttons started to wear off. I had to have my radio replaced - I was told they used "soft touch" paint in the design and it was wearing off for all owners. If it continues to happen I will have to have my stereo replaced yet again. Other than that...no complaints. The most wonderful car I ever owned - and I went from my beloved 20 year old BMW 528e that I drove off the lot brand new in 1986 to my H3 and I love it!!!
giant piece of junk
Bought this pre-owned at 5 years old. Conveniently everything started going down the drain at that point. Stupid things would break like the door... couldn't open the driver door from the inside. Sunroof leaks, passenger will randomly get quite soaked. It seemed like every week something would go wrong. Key fob just doesn't work... tried changing the battery..nothing. One day I tried to go to work and the truck locked me in park! Couldn't move the vehicle! Extremely unreliable. One day hazard lights just turned on its own and wouldn't turn off. Can't even drive up hills without a hard time. No interior lights that turn on when door opens - stupid. Poor handling.
This is a great SUV
This vehicle has gone where no other I own has, including my little jeep. It is the best SUV GM has ever made. It is a real off the road go getter, but still comfortable driving to dinner!
Its a four wheel drive off road vehicle
But its well suited for the street. It will get 23 mpg on the hiway if you drive 57 mph but it go down to 19 if you go 66. Its not a hot rod but its not supposed to be one either. It really is great off road and I have had 3 Bronco's. The ride is great also considering its off road gift. First GM truck so we will have to see how it holds up. No lease I own it.
Nothing
I bought on 3-17-2010 we had it for 2 weeks gas mileage is horrible, it wore one tire very bad had to go back in to check out, then one week ago the wiring harness burned up and we ended up paying for some of it, also the tire I had to pay for half of it. I personally think it's a recall?
Best bang for your buck
Armrest on driver's door too far back. Can't reach window or seat controls easily. Needs power seat option without leather seats. No leather wanted, i live in florida. Went to mountains on vacation and got total 19.7 Mpg. This suv is just fun, fun, fun. Our son bought one and he loves his also. It is alot better than the big fords and lincolns. We are treated with respect and admiration everywhere we go in it. Our dealership is very serious with these vehicles and their owners. This is one of the best vehicles i have ever owned. I also own a black c5 corvette. Both are quality automobiles. Not bad for an old mopar lover, huh ?
Eye Catching!!
I love driving my Hummer. I purchased the luxary package in Boulder Grey and put 450 miles on it the first week I owned it. I have three kids in car seats, so it is a tight fit on the back seat. I have to be careful closing doors so no ones hand gets smashed. The cargo area is also smaller the expected. Again, it is a tight fit for the double stroller I carry. Overall, the kids love the Hummer as much as me. It get good gas mileage and the sound system and onstar are nice to have. The salespeople at our dealership bent over backwards for us to give us the best deal ever. We will definitely be repeat customers.
In love with my H3
At my age of 61yrs I feel so good when I am driving my Hummer not to mention just looking at it. It was given to me for my 38th wedding anniversary by my husband. I was a Saab girl until I test drove a Hummer. My grandchildren love it as well, everyone in the family wanted me to choose little less flashy car
Just bought this yesterday
I just bought the first one in MS yesterday. I am a 51 year old woman and I love this vehicle. My grown children are trying to steal it. I was so very surprised at how easy it drove and handled. I could not belive the handling on the highway. It was a much smoother ride than I was expecting. I have driven Cadillacs for years and I actually traded my CTS in on this truck. I am very excited about owning this truck.
SUV that actually goes off road
This is an SUV made for outdoors enthusiast not soccer moms. If you are a hunter, camper, hiker, etc., you will greatly appreciate the real value of this vehicle. If you really need a station wagon that is good on the road when it snows, you will be better served with a BMW X5/Lexus GX470, which are fine autos. Edmunds, knocks the H3 for cargo space, acceleration and towing capacity. The towing gripe is lagit (4500 lbs), but the acceleration is quite good especially 0-50. You only notice the power slump 50-80 when passing, but it is NOT bad and you will appreciate the improved mpg. As far as cargo space goes it is actually one of the best? Compared to a Touareg, BMW, etc. it is HUGE.
Lived up to expectations
I've read about this vehicle being sluggish but I have to disagree. It has plenty of power for the hills I travel and I live in West Virginia. The H3 is smooth, has a great turning radius, gets 20 mpg and turns heads in town. Handles very well. I love it, as does my wife.
Best value
Having owned a H1 I didn't know what to think about the H3. Now I am convinced it gets the most bang for the buck!!! IT has the looks, the on and off road feel of a very capable SUV. When compared to other HUMMERS it has a remarkably low price. Together with good dealer service this is an unbeatable vehicle.
Dirt Hummer
Got my H3 in Sept, went to Western Colorado and Moab Utah. Took out back seat to allow sleeping in back (getting old, don't like the ground any more, pitching a tent takes too long) Yes needs flat floor and about 4 more inches. Climbed everything, I Have off road package,( 5 spd)did need low range, didn't have to lock up the rear axel.Used the locker ounce at Moab, nothing too challenging as I don't have the nerf bars on yet. Gears are whinny in low range, the hold back feature on down hills is great, saves brakes. MPG on Hwy 17-18.5 in town 18-19!! Needs something up front to cut wind improve aeros. Door seals keep dust out, but allow it inside doors, pain to clean. needs 25 more HP.
Attention getter!
This SUT is a real attention getter! Everywhere I go people stop me and ask about it. I've taken it on a 200 mile road trip and driven it in city traffic. So far, it has been a blast. I was not sure what I was getting into when I bought it. I read the reviews about the lack of power. I've found it to be fine on the highway. I've hit passing gear a couple of times with no issues. In a perfect world it would have more power, but at this point I'm not ready to give up the gas mileage. The four wheel disc brakes stop on a dime. I hate to admit it, but I have already found this out first hand.
Hallelujah I got a Hummer
Purchased this H3 for my wife, really! She loves it. Daughter thinks its GR8. Tested lots of vehicles(Hondas,Jeeps, Acadia,Vue and Extera)and we still liked this one the most. Forest green, nice color.I dont understand the complaints by some.I am 6'2" 198 sz 13 feet and I fit very well. Back seat also has plenty of room. Can't believe how far back the front seats will move. Don't people realize it's a truck not a Honda Civic. It's a very utilitarian vehicle. Throw in your tools/climbing/hiking/boating gear and you are all set. Went from Syracuse to Old Forge NY recently and got 22 mpg RT with travel around town and the lake. Received complements on its looks. This is my 34th vehicle in 34 years. Love it
3 year Owner of H3
I purchased my Hummer in August of 2006 and I have ZERO regrets to this day. I have had no mechanical problems or anything that needed major repair. I have enjoyed my H3 and I consider it a great buy. Regardless of what you hear about being a gas guzzler, my H3 gets approximately 14 mgp on a 20 gallon tank.
H3 Heaven
This is one fine Hummer. Everything anyone could want and more. Great ride, great milage and go anywhere. This Hummer has everyone turning their heads and saying ,what was that!
My Hummie
Overall satisfied with exterior and interior design, but engine seems very loud, including squeaky belt.
Love this truck
Driving this truck is so much fun, its a show stopper. Everyone stares and looks at the vehicle. Land Rover owners are jealous and try not to look. Could use more storage spaces inside, need to relocate the electric seat buttons to somewhere else other than the bottom of side seats, hard to reach with the arm rest in the way.
Hummer Love
Have owned over 70 Vehicles, This rates up at the top 5%. As the engine breaks in it runs better all the time. It is not the Hemi engine, but I don't plan on towing anything. We have the moonsoon stereo, a must have! We have the auto, talk about handling on slick roads... WOW!
Hummer H3
The Hummer is a exciting suv to drive. It has a tight turning radius. But the engine lacks power, especially when towing. Otherwise it seems to have adequate power although I would like to see GM up the horsepower to 275 or more. The ride with the off road package has been great especially off road. It also rides well on paved roads as well. Visibilty is low, but on the outside it looks great with the chopped look. It handles very well on snow covered roads.
Worth it!
I've owned several 4wds and I must say none are like the Hummer.Looking forward to the snow. Comfortable, quiet, 20mpg, fun and what an eye catcher. Is it ugly? Is it cute? Who care's it's a Hummer!
Room for improvement
Although exciting behind the wheel, great looks and comfort, the biggest disappointment is engine performance. The power lags tremendously and is far less responsive than what would be expected from any HUMMER. This shortfall is impractical for on-road driving conditions (e.g. city traffic) and therefore lessons the H3's appeal.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
200% recommend!!! This has been the best vehicle I've ever purchased! Has gone through snow like no other vehicle I've owned! Love it!
I love my H3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just purchased the H3 in November '05. I love just about everything about it. One thing though ... they didn't put enough interior lights especially on the visor mirror. Very happy with the way it drives. :)
Awesome
Before my ordered H3 arrived I was concerned about power. Don't be. This vehicle is a great performer, great ride and its got class. Thanks GM.
Oops, reality check
Update to my 11/22 review. On 11/26 the transmission went out. Dealership says no others have been reported losing the tranny. They loaned me an H3, so I was happy with that. They took 2 1/2 weeks to fix it though! They have now had it longer than me. I got to drive one with the Adventure package, though, and liked the performance in a heavy snow that we had. Got my H3 back two days ago and seems fine. Keeping my fingers crossed. Love most everything else about it. Can live with the mileage and power. Lux pkg is nice. Do watch backing up, however.
Move Over Wrangler
I've fallen in love with Hummer H3. It has great stock performance on mud terrain, and it can be submerged in water. The ride is comfortable, and since it's manual, it's a blast to drive. It rumbles like an F250, but thin enough to get through off-road trails in the woods. When I first heard of the H3 I felt it wasn't going to be "manly" enough for me, but the first time I drove it, the car changed my mind completely. It's extremely spacious, and the interior is perfect for it's off-road, military look; yet it's very modern and designed well for the not-so military-type. Speakers are great as well as the subs. Seats are comfortable. It handles well at high speed, and has so-so acceleration.
Great Truck w/quirks
Just purchased the H3 a few weeks ago. I'm impressed with the styling and the overall vehicle quality. I am happy with my decision so far, however, the engine could use more torque and HP, which I am actively seeking aftermarket products for. I actually use my SUV for hauling materials I need during my remodel project, and so far, I've not been disappointed. Believe it or not, I traded an '04 Cayenne for this, as I was tearing it apart hauling tile, lumber and concrete in it....trust me, Porsche hasn't figured out what an SUV is for...however, the Cayenne S would smoke this H3 on the street. Anyway, I'll use this for a few years and see how it goes....so far, I'm impressed.
H3 BRKDWN
Sluggish response, quiet interior, good ac, smooth ride and good handling, good visibility - nice height, roomy intertior, plenty of elbow room from driver to passenger side, back seat could use some leg room, decent rear storage, heavy rear door.
I love this truck
This is a girl's Hummer. Drives great, looks fantastic, and I cannot stop driving it! Where has this truck been all along?
Just ok......
We ordered the vehicle in Feb 05. After months of anticipation, we finally receievd in June 05. Nice fit and finish. Vehicle runs and drives out ok. However, the 5 cylinder engine is anemic and the vehicle is severely underpowered. In addition, while GM was offering lots of incentives on all other GM vehicles, MSRP was the best we could do on this one. Since the lux-H2 is being offered at $49k with the employee discount/incentives program, it is a much better value for the money.
SO FAR SO GOOD
Purchased the 2006 h3 last month used with 22,000 miles on it. It's fun to drive, great looks, and for having a 5 cylinder engine, does a great job for handling it's size. I did not have this for a very long time, but it's doing well. This is not intended for racing, but for normal driving.
not so great H3
Engine is way too weak for a truck this size 3.5 l. 5cyl it's a JOKE!!! This truck is clearly made for women driving to and from grocery stores Every single friend of mine who was driving my H3 is saying same thing great handling more like a car not truck, quiet and comfy inside, good looking interior but engine is so weak !!! beige leather got dirty after two weeks of driving ( I'm driving to work 22.5 miles one way) probably because my black leather belt and jeans believe me I'm using AC and I'm not over weighted & 200lb. (by the way enough space inside to get in and out)
Not safe for children
My husband bought an h3 for me for christmas coming from a ford expedition i was really disappointed. The h3 is cute from the outside ,but it is really small, worst part the h3 does not i repeat does not have child safe rear doors. which means that a child can unlock the door from the inside back seat of the vehicle . I called the number in the back of my owners manual and was told that hummer could not even install them for me. I do not believe that a car that a child can open that easily is even remotely safe for them.
Satisfied Customer
I just purchased the vehicle a couple days back and it's been amazing so far. I sold my Volvo XC90 and I'm very glad I did I'm enjoying the H3 much more. Everyone I know has been giving me compliments about the design on the inside and outside. The only thing I can compare it to is my old SUV the Volvo and there is no comparison there this H3 is simply much better. It's a better drive on road, a better look, and better off-road. I had so many problems with replacing Volvo parts and their service was terrible it feels good to have an American vehicle now. I have a feeling I will be sticking with Hummer vehicles for a long time after this one.
LuvsMyHummer
I've had my H3 since August and love it more every day! For those who question the power - This hasn't been an issue at all for me. I've had no trouble passing vehicles (though I have had a hard time keeping it under 70 mph on the hwy) and wouldn't give up my good gas mileage to go back to my old V8. The styling is great. Looks tough as nails going down the road (or mountain) but with a smooth ride. Love my leather seats & dash design - looks modern. The turning radius is fantastic & the moonroof is huge. I've had to get use to backing up - limited view, windows are pretty high (my arms have a hard time reaching the drawer at bank drive-through) but I love 98% of it! A head turner!
Hummin' a Little Tune
This is the best Factory offroad vehicle in production next to the Jeep Rubicon. I have the Lux package with the OffRoad option. The aftermartket is sure to jump on the upgrades and everybody can personalize to there own likes. I am 6'1" tall and have no trouble with leg room. The back seat is roomy enough with the drivers seat all the way back for a 5'8" passenger to sit with their knees just touching the back of the seat. GM/Hummer will sell alot of these great Midsized offroad SUV's. The ride is very comfortable on the street and you feel very safe in this vehicle.
Like nothing else
Been Driving this truck for a few months now ( 11,000 miles ) and still can't wait to get in a drive it.... Fun to drive with the 5 speed trans, Great on the beach, in the snow, Anywhere.... GREAT TRUCK
Ten jeeps later
After owning 5 new Jeep GrandS The new 2006 just looked to much like a van sorry I wanted a four wheel dive not a van! I looked at all of the big names, but they all looked the a same van van ect. last but not least the H3 True love at first drive! Why! ride fit and looks. Point it were you want to go and you will be there! Down side? Backing takes about the day or a week to get use to, Driver side controls a litte hard to find but no big deal. The ride says I CAN DO IT! An the H3 is the one to do it! My first trip was 800 miles, 19 miles to gal. Looks to many to be true! If you do not want to be seen do not buy! Onstar is great , for the real thing at great price just drive a new H3
HUMMER Heaven!
We love our Hummer! We can't believe how many looks we get while driving this H3! People actually stop and point and ask us about our Hummer every time we drive it. We're getting about 19 mpg, which is unbelievable given the huge size of this SUV! Our H3 performs great and the turning radius is fantastic. After driving this car, we will never buy anything else! We are now HUMMER collectors!

This SUV is a blast. Well built and sexy. I bought it last mo, so I'll be back in 3 or 4 mos to re-review when I know more about its character. This SUV is well worth looking at for the money.
Its great!
I have had my eye on the new H3 ever since I heard Hummer was going to make one about one year ago. This vehicle lives up to the hype. Its all the tank that the H1 and H2 are, but more economical. It gets great gas mileage, and fits in my garage. It turning radius and its torque are what impress me most. This is an exceptional off road vehicle....
H3
Two cons to consider: * L5 engine does not provide enough power but great on gas. * Rear window too small and spare tire blocks half of it - technically you are backing up blindly (back-up camera is a necessity not an option).
