2024 Black Edition Ridgeline
Traded in a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited a couple weeks ago for the Ridgeline Black Edition. I had been looking awhile and test drove a 2023 Ridgeline-E. I didn't like the offer luckily because the 2024 Black Edition turned out to be a lot nicer! I used the online give me your best deal and they did. The 2024 Black Edition did away with the adjustable arm rests for a much nicer and more comfortable arm rest, center console cover. I live in the Gulf South and can't believe how good the seat cooler feels, that's a new addition for sure that is much appreciated if you live in a humid area. The lane assist crushes the Outback in handling curves really well and staying centered in straight a ways. The adaptive cruise control won't bring you to a complete stop like the Outback did and you better do your own braking when it beeps at you. They both start working at 45MPH. The ride is very quite and comfortable for long drives. The app screen is a nice size and easy to use, the stereo is awesome with the Black Edition. The suspension handles the pot holes well and makes for a very comfortable ride. Dislikes, the tailgate won't open if you have the key fob in your pocket, have to use the key fob to open it and the back doors if you are not in the truck. I also don't like how low it sits, the Outback is higher. Overall, I REALLY like it, took a few dealers to get a great deal though.

Great truck
Just got my second Honda Ridgeline truck and so happy with the decision. Excellent truck with good looks. I can pull my small trailer without problems at all and the mpg is good.

Systems power issues
I love my new Honda Ridgeline Trailsport but I have been having issues with the idle switch. All summer the message was adjust climate and now the message reads system is charging/warming up. Half the time the passenger side window doesn't work from the driver's side. I have taken it back to the dealership numerous times and they said there's nothing wrong. As much as I love Hondas, I wish I would have just kept the one I had. I feel the response from the dealership is unexceptable considering how much these vehicles cost. I still believe there's something going on with the electrical system.

Caution on Drive Train
My first Ridgeline was a 2017 rear wheel drive (2WD) purchases new. The EPA fuel rating was 19 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, for a combined 22 mpg. I typically met or exceeded the EPA rating for the life of the vehicle before I traded it in January 2025 for 2024 Ridgeline. But the 2024 model has a significant flaw. The overall trim and finish are nice for the price and what you would expect from a Honda. The 2024 version had an EPA fuel rating of 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, for a combined 21 mpg and the 24 falls below this bar where my 2017 model met and frequently exceeded the EPA rating over its life. In addition to poor fuel economy, the transmission appears to have a bad reputation which is deserved. It is very sluggish and feels like you are always towing a trailer. It requires a lot of accelerator pressure to make the vehicle move which is probably why the fuel economy is so low. It also freezes and will not accelerate at times. I discovered this passing a car on a two-lane road and it just stopped accelerating and froze at the speed. I had to brake and slide back in behind the vehicle I was passing to avoid the situation deteriorating into a potentially hazardous event. There are some class actions related the ZF9HP transmission which likely contributes to the sluggish performance and fuel economy. The 2017 shifted clean and smooth compared to the 2024 model. It is possible the ZF9HP is the culprit behind the poor shifting, acceleration freezing and bad fuel economy. Honda should be ashamed because it will tarnish their positive record. It has with me.

2024 Ridgeline RTL
Comfortable ride up front, back is tight for full size adults. Camera has low resolution and somewhat disappointing. With that said, the truck, overall, has nice features and rides well. I’d been waiting for a hybrid but unfortunately that was not in store for the 24. I think adding 6 inches in length to the cabin and upping the tech level would really make this truck a standout for 2025.
