Luxury Truck With Incredible Resale Value

Owned a Dodge Dakota that treated me well but it's time had come. Wasn't looking for a brand new truck, so I test drove a few used ones that had ~30k miles on them. After driving a Tacoma, F-150, and a 2019 Ridgeline with 30k miles, the Ridgeline was truly in a class of its own. Drives like a luxury car, but can do everything I need a truck to do - tow my boat, haul mulch and other stuff around the yard, and house projects. After searching the few available used Ridgelines, I went and test drove the best deal I found. During the test drive, I found out a brand new top of the line RTL-E was only $4k more. Why would I buy used if I could get new with a full warranty for $4k more? And it's incredible to me that it keeps its value that well. Love my new Ridgeline. Leather seats, sunroof, heated steering wheel/seats, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, truly flat bed (no wheel wells) - which is really nice by the way, trunk in the bed, active noise cancelling while driving - and music adjusts volume with speed, and a ton of other features. Wife bought a new VW and almost immediately after she started driving my Ridgeline, she said "I thought my car was nice. This is way nicer." Feels like a luxury car that can do everything a midsize truck should do. Love it. Can see why there's so few used ones available. Definitely recommend. Update: Still love the truck and I've been getting 29 or 30 mpg pretty consistently! Yes, this is mostly freeway driving and I try to stay at constant speeds on the freeway, but my old VW Golf Turbo couldn't break 28 mpg in those same conditions. I'm impressed. Another Update: Gas mileage dropped pretty significantly recently to about 24 mpg driving the same route on the freeway. It's been cooler here in MN (was about 55 degrees the other day when I paid close attention to mpg). I looked up when winter blends start and sure enough, I'm thinking that's the cause. Will see if mpg goes back up in the summer. I'm not complaining - I'm pretty happy with 24mpg from a truck!

Best Outdoorsman truck for Upper Michigan!

Dec ‘24 update: Still runs like a Swill watch! Zero issues with it. Not burning oil and average fuel economy is >23 MPG (after almost 78,000 miles. Put on Cooper Discoverer Road & Trail AT tires in Nov ‘23. They are wonderful and the truck is even better off road and snow with these tires. HIGHLY recommend them - I couldn’t be happier with my truck and tires! Dec ‘22 update: No issues to report. I don’t like the Firestone tires and can’t wait to put new ones on. I highly recommend Cooper Discover AT3s. I’ve had those on other vehicles and they’re very grippy in winter, quiet and wear very well. I’ll wait another year before investing $1000 on new tires though Dec ’21 update (almost 2 yrs owned): Everything I’ve said below still holds true. I have almost 30,000 mi on it and have had no issues. The trunk and the wide bed are the best parts of the truck. I have a 2015 Honda Rubicon and it easily fits in the bed with room to spare. In the summer I average ~25mpg, in the winter (cold & winter blend fuel) ~21mpg. The AWD system is amazing and keeps me planted no matter the road conditions - and in Upper Michigan I’ve had it out on BAD roads. The ride is so nice my wife prefers us taking the Ridgeline on longer trips than her Accord. The engine/transmission is the smoothest I’ve ever driven - you can’t tell when it shifts. I travel a lot for work and have had many car/truck rentals and I’ve yet to drive a vehicle I prefer over my Ridgeline. It’s not too big, not too small, has plenty of storage, great mpg, great power, awesome handling, awesome AWD, awesome ride quality. Perfect. If you know about Michigan's Upper peninsula, then you know they get snow. LOTS of snow. They also have lots of dirt roads, ATV trails, great hunting and fishing, and everything an outdoorsman wants. In my experience, the Honda Ridgeline is the PERFECT truck for the outdoorsman - no contest! It's iVTM-4 AWD system keeps the truck "stuck to the road" no matter how much snow or slippery the road is; all without the driver needing to do anything other than put it in "snow mode" if they want. No more questioning whether you should put your truck in 4WD or not, or whether you should lock in the diffs. No worrying about if you're going to fast to put it in 4WD or not - just drive and let the Ridgeline do all the worrying. Off-roading - it does that perfectly as well. Now while we don't have a Rubicon trail here, it has easily handled all roads and trails I've thrown at it. Have logging trucks rutted up the road to camp in the spring? No worries, the Ridgeline will get you there! Want to drive out to Keystone Bay past the end of Highway 41? No problem! There's nothing in MI or WI that has gotten the Ridgeline stuck. Want to haul your ATV to camp? I can easily fit my 2013 Honda Rubicon in the back with room to spare. Want to haul 4 kids, food, water, generator, chain saw, gas AND the ATV to the cabin? Throw everything but the kids in the trunk, drive the ATV up in the back, load the kids up with their electronics in the spacious cab and go! No more spending hours trying to figure out how to pack all the food, gear, luggage AND kids in the cab while still bringing the ATV. The trunk is awesome and you'll find a million uses for it. Is camp or the cabin a 100+ miles away? Not to worry - you'll get 22+ MPG hauling the family, all the gear AND the ATV in the back. With just you commuting to work you'll get 23+ MPG. Have to drive downstate on the interstate for hours? 26+ MPG. The Ridgeline is awesome! The ride, handling, size of the cabin, versatility - it's all excellent. And how much does all this cost? Mine was mid-$30's - CONSIDERABLY less than other trucks that you'll have to compromise ride, traction, handling, storage, MPG, etc. with. I'm a truck guy (and a Yooper) so I didn't want leather, sunroof, or fancy bells and whistles. Just give me an old-school cloth interior with manual adjusting seats and I'll keep my $3000 thank you. Anyway, don't let people tell you it's not a truck. Or get sucked into the "frail male ego" syndrome which compels you to buy a body-on-frame truck because otherwise you're not a real man. Show them you're smarter than the average bear and buy the Swiss army knife of trucks - the Honda Ridgeline. I promise you won't be disappointed!

I had a Ford f-150 4x4 which I traded for my Ridgeline. I don't tow, hunt, fish, go off roading. I belong to a HOT ROD group of guys that like to help each other out with our projects. Each one of us has his specialty, upholstery, paint, wiring and suspension. Mine is engine. I need a truck in name only to haul engines and parts to the machine shop and back, or to someone's house. The swing out tailgate is a wonderful option for getting the engine into the bed without the tailgate getting in the way. Engines can weight up to 700 lbs, so the Ridgeline has no issues with this task. All the while, my passengers and I ride in comfort. There is a lot to be said for independent rear suspension. Rides like a car, works like a truck. Be ready to get a little ribbing from your friends.. It all stops when they go for a ride. Couldn't be happier.

The Ridgeline is the perfect vehicle for me. I need a pickup truck to haul motorcycles and parts. The towing capacity is only 5000 pounds which is more than enough for my needs. If you need to haul heavy loads you might as well buy a full size pickup. The Ridgeline rides like a dream. The storage is tremendous. I am more than happy with this vehicle.

It's a real truck for today's living

I upgraded from a 2012 Honda Ridgeling and what a difference. I loved my 2012 and it's utalitarian features. That truck had personality. This one has everything. I bought the RTL-E and I love it. The interior is top notch... to me, it is the Cadillac of the midsize segment from that perspective. Exterior looks more like a traditional truck than it's predecessor, too. Admitedly, I did love the look of the old one. All that being said, I know the knocks on the truck from the "purist" who don't use their trucks for their offroda capabilties often, if at all. My truck can tow my boat (3500 lbs) effortlessly. It can handle all types of weather. It can go off road beyond the ability I need it to. Has the best gas mileage in the segment. And did I mention it's a great daily driver. It's a great versitile, good looking, capable truck that holds it's value. I'm not sure whate else to say... oh yea, it also has a truck-bed audio system that sounds great!

Boy...what a dichotomy and dilemma. I have owned my 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E for just over a year now. For the most part I love the many great utility and safety features built into this truck. It is comfortable and practical in almost all aspects. Love the dual function of the tailgate and the under bed trunk etc. One big caveat; after being hit with a good blast of arctic air recently, I've seen some things I didn't like. Several issues cropped up during this cold spell that were both irritating and concerning. After the temperatures dropped to below zero, some problems arose that would otherwise have been masked. The heat to the floorboard area is completely inadequate; my feet were freezing. Even when the heater was set only to direct heat down, not even close to sufficient. More concerning, it would barely move when engaged to reverse or drive. It felt like you were trying to pull a house down the road. I'm not a mechanic, but would suspect that some of the lubricants are not sufficient for this extreme cold; ( transmission, differential, oil, hubs ?) Not only that but my gas mileage dropped as precipitously as the temperatures. From a normal of about 23-24 MPG , I've gotten in the 13-14 range. This isn't due to excessive idling etc., we're talking about little idling and long winter drives. Very disappointing as I like much about this truck, but these are game changers if you live in cold areas. Tried to address these issues at the dealership where I bought the truck. After talking to the service department, I got the distinct impression I wasn't the only one experiencing similar problems. I also got the distinct impression that nothing would be done about it. Warm areas, I'd endorse this truck, but if you live in the far northern areas of the midwest, Alaska, high mountain regions or northern New England, I'd be leery of this vehicle.

Powerful and Practical Daily Driver

New Ridgeline Owner, 07/02/2020
2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E 4dr Crew Cab AWD SB (3.5L 6cyl 9A)

After test driving a Tacoma, the RTL-E trim was the most practical and comfortable ride. Since it’s purchase, it has hauled bicycles, coolers, luggage, tools, book shelves, and a variety of other odd shaped home furniture. The truck comes with tie-downs that work well with ratchet straps and generic rope. As for the inside—and this was one of the biggest selling points, the rear seats are roomy unlike the Tacoma. There’s a volume control from the steering wheel which is simpler to operate allowing you to pay attention to driving. After a 3 hr road trip, the drive was exceptionally smooth. The Ridgeline absorbed the bumps in the road with ease. Turns were precise though it takes a few times to acclimate to the lane assist and sensing features. It is an incredibly intelligent vehicle. For all those examples, the pluses are the dual tailgate feature, truck bed audio, and in-bed storage. The Ridgeline is an overall powerful, practical, and fun ride.

A truck for 99% of what you do in a truck

Laugh out loud at people comparing a full size 4X4 to the Ridgeline. If you want that in a truck then go buy it and stop comparing apples to oranges. 99% of the time you are traveling on good roads and hauling minimal if any cargo. Which means 99% of the time you are enjoying a great quiet ride with comfort and great mileage. Power is good and storage is better. I'll go with that 99% and gladly forego the 4x4 rock climbing. To all of those Toyota Tacoma users who drive through puddles to get their truck dirty....enjoy your kidney busting ride and small headroom/comfort while lounge in my ridgeline. If you don't haul huge trailers or heavy stuff this is a no -brainer. If you do, you should be looking at a RAM 2500. Whatever you do the most should be the reason to buy.

Good Truck That Could Be Great

Love many things about the 2020 Ridgeline. The ride is superior, the seats extremely comfortable, and the interior is very nice. The 2 way tail gate is very handy, and the under bed trunk is genius! The bed is composite, and wide enough between wheel wells to haul 4 x 8 plywood and drywall flat. It comes with a hitch already installed too. The downsides are few, but correcting them could be so easy and cost effective, I find it curious that Honda left them in place. 1. The entertainment/navigation system is more lacking than the review illustrates. I use Apple Car Play, and the Honda head is very slow to load, and bulky. Not having a volume knob is just stupid, although controlling it through the steering wheel controls offsets that a little. All of the cars driving parameters are setup through the entertainment system, so that precludes using any other head unit but Honda's. I can't imagine how much more out of date it will be in just a few short years, and how much a replacement might cost from Honda, if it's even available. My biggest gripe is the wholly inadequate front headlights. Although LED's are available on the top trim line, the lights on the lower trim levels are wholly inadequate incandescents. They are unacceptably dim even for incandescents. I find that completely unacceptable in a 2020 model year vehicle. My other vehicles have had the old style HID lights, or LED headlights for several years. Night driving in the Ridgeline is like driving at night with sunglasses on! That bad! If you haven't been driving on LED, or HID lights for years perhaps it won't be an issue for you. But if you have, the dim driving is very fatiguing. Come on Honda, LED headlights are a VERY cheap safety upgrade!

Fix your infotainment and drivers aids Honda!

Forget all the “real truck” nonsense. This is a real enough truck for 90% of us suburban folks who want some truck utility without the bulk of the typical full size. I drove Ranger (too crude compared to Ridgeline for my needs) and after F150 and Ram 1500, I liked those trucks but they’re way more truck than I need 90% of the time . I came from a 2017 VW Golf into my 3 year lease non a Ridgeline RTL-E and gave up nothing in comfort or utility. The VTM AWD system works well in snow , though I’m not sure about true off-road ( there are some good videos out there though). I don’t tow or off-road, but I have driven 4 hours in just as much comfort as our 2020 Odyssey. If you want a sometimes truck that’s rather car like, the Ridgeline is very good. Two big annoyances: Honda really needs to fix their touchscreen infotainment systems. Slow and laggy, it really detracts from enjoying the vehicle. Our 2020 Odyssey is no better. Same complaint goes with the drivers aids. They are slow to react and overreact when they do function. Or, they give a false alarm and overreact. Compared to other makes I’ve owned and rented, they are truly below par and what I expect from Honda. Turning off the drivers aids turns quite a few warning lights on and is annoying to look at and I don’t want to cover my gauges with electrical tape ;). Also, the one time the safety aids are needed, if they aren’t on they won’t work. Honestly, the worst part of two brand new vehicles is electronic equipment that in the this day and age can easily be fixed. Fix them Honda! I like my Ridgeline but seemingly little things like a slow infotainment system and obnoxious drivers aids (almost dangerous at times) need fixed as they greatly detract from the ownership experience. Update: Nearly a year in, all my previous complaints are valid. Infotainment system is bad and the drivers aids(especially the forward collision warning) are intrusive and obnoxious in their function. Other than that, it has served me well in truck capacity and car capacity. Truly a versatile vehicle, very under-appreciated because "its not a real truck" and admittedly goofy looks, which Honda has kind of addressed for the '21 model. Update 2: Now a year and a half into a 3 year lease, the infotainment and drivers aids complaints are still my biggest complaint. A shame, because other than that, this is a wonderful and wonderfully versatile if odd looking vehicle, especially in RTL-E trim. But, as strange as it is to say, it's still just a bit more truck than I really need. Seeing the recent success of Fords Maverick (high on my list after the Honda lease ends) perhaps trucks just below the Ridgeline in size (and importantly price) will become more common. Civic based truck, Honda? Again, I'm not your typical truck user, most anything I've done with our Ridgeline could be done with our Odyssey, with a lot more clean up other than sweeping out the bed. But having the versatility of the truck bed for dirty and bulky things as a homeowner is great. But I'd prefer something closer to the Chevy El Camino, Ford Ranchero or VW Caddy and the new species of small trucks is closer to that than Ridgeline.

I have been researching a midsize truck for six months, But I’ve only owned this vehicle two weeks/900 miles. These vehicles seem to hold their value well, so you might want to look at a 2020 model as they close them out over the next few months versus buying a 2019 or less. We got a great deal on a 2020. We were surprised today when GPS landed us on a washed out, rocky road with no way to back up, in the North Carolina mountains. I shifted into the mud mode of driving and we moved safely through large rocks and deep ruts on this narrow pig path of a road. I’ve got some mud to clean off, but no problems with traction with the standard tires. I like the nine speed transmission; allows you with paddle shifting to downshift going down steep hills and in normal situations smoothly shifts without confusion. Running in the “green mode” shuts off the engine at complete stops (I like it!); even that is on/off with one push of a button on the console. Contrary to what some say, the brakes are quite adequate and handled the mountains in western North Carolina well. In the first 800 miles I’m getting 22.7 miles per gallon overall with regular gas. This includes highway driving and a loaded truck trip into the mountains and city use. The trunk inside the truck bed, the swing to the side tailgate, and if that’s not enough for speakers in bedded in the truck bed plus the 110 outlet in the bed sold me on this truck over the Ranger and Tacoma. I wouldn’t want the jeep gladiator is I wanted a daily driver that would be comfortable and roomy in the cab in addition to doing the rough stuff appalling stuff in the bed and pulling an average trailer. I would definitely choose the RTL Dash E version again. Hopefully in the next three years they’ll be a hybrid version of this truck that’s just as powerful. That’s when it will be trade in time.

I've been considering buying a Ridgeline for sometime and have read many reviews and am so glad I did. The cab is so comfortable and features amazing and I love I can fold up the backseats and use all that space behind along with the awesome bed trunk. I love the way it drives and am glad that it has a V6 engine as it drives very smooth.

The 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E was my choice after many weeks of shopping around and test driving some of the "other" trucks. I occasionally tow a smaller boat, make some local trips to home improvement stores. I live in a seasonal climate so I do encounter a fair share of snow. The Ridgeline easily handles everything I've encountered so far. I love it! I have the comfort and luxury of a high end SUV along with a "bonus" pickup bed. Not to mention all the unique features this truck has, Two way locking tailgate, trunk in bed, convenience charging/power ports. Safety features all around! And much more... I feel that the Ridgeline is underrated as a pickup truck and I was hesitant to even shop for one, But I quickly changed my mind and opinion after driving it myself. If you are looking for a pickup truck, I suggest you at least test drive a Ridgeline before making that final decision. I know that this review reads like a Honda commercial, but I am being completely honest! Good luck. -Frank

If you are seriously looking at a Ridgeline you already know what type truck you want to buy. It's a "city" truck with moderate off road usage and towing. Highway driving is a dream for a truck. Smooth, quiet, responsive, good acceleration, safe with all of the features, AWD, good sound system. Rides like a good crossover. Off-road goes well because of the unibody design and independent rear suspension. Payload capacity is best in class. Disagree with Edmunds review on the touch screen - have no problems with it at all or the controls on and around the steering. Also disagree on the gearing down as mine has the manual shifting with paddles if desired. Honda also fixed their dim headlight problems in past models. These are excellent. Future model years are supposed to have a bigger screen. I added an Extang hard tri-fold bed cover, AVS vent shades, Weathertech on the floors and splash guards, Honda storage under the rear seating, separation panels in the locking watertight trunk under the bed. That's a great feature that can also be used as a large ice chest for picnics/tailgates. Mine has the inverter and truck bed lighting as well. On a vacation with interstate driving we got 26 miles to the gallon and only used the economy mode for half the trip. Have driven for a few months now and literally have nothing negative to say, only positives. It fits our purposes for a mid-size truck exactly. UPDATE 7/21: Still perfectly describes our opinion of the truck. Could not be more pleased. Added a bug deflector and panels to the console storage. Have been pleasantly surprised by the factory Firestone tires as well. Really good traction and ride. Hope Honda always makes Ridgelines in the spirit of this model. Update 1/22: Totally satisfied. Still averaging 26+ mpg on the highway with AWD. Rides great. Operated well with a full loaded bed of decking boards/materials. Appearance has remained great. Don't let people tell you it's not a "real" truck. It is. The manufacture of it is innovative using frame rails and the unibody. You will love the waterproof trunk in the bed. Interior remains like new.

In my opinion the 2020 Honda Ridgeline is the best mid size truck on the market. I checked all of the other mid size trucks and found the Ridgeline to be more competent in all categories. It has the most and best storage, rides like a Suv, and the bed speaker system is awesome. If you are looking for a everyday truck Ridgeline is the way to go. If you are looking for a work truck then you should consider full size trucks and not the Ridgeline. All the other midsize trucks that I drove are not up to the standards of the Ridgeline.

The Ridgeline suits my needs perfectly. I can transport grandkids and cargo with equal ease. It’s a cinch to buckle a kid’s car seat & I can carry a sheet of 4’ x 8’ plywood in the bed (with the tailgate down). I was hauling stone and landscaping supplies the day after I bought it and grandkids the next day. It is quiet and has a smooth ride. It handles so well I could forget it is a truck and not a passenger car. The instrument panel is well designed— easy to read at a glance. The headrest is as annoying as all of them are these days, but the seats are otherwise quite comfortable. I am finding the lockable trunk built into the bed to be quite handy. The gas mileage is as good as my last SUV.

I went to a 2020 RTL-E Ridgeline as it was the best choice for an all around vehicle. My wife and I are familiar with the brand having owned a 2007 and currently owning a 2013. I say best choice because I wanted to go to owning just one vehicle rather than a half ton truck and small errand runner. We vacation and tow twice a year and the rest of the time I have no need for a large truck. The Ram 1500 was great, but parking and errand running are a bit cumbersome due to the size, and the mileage with a Hemi V-8 was not the best. I give the 2020 4 stars instead of 5 based on a few minor gripes. First off is the touch screen head unit which I find a bit slow and cumbersome to use, especially without a volume knob. Honda would do well to study the UConnect system in Chrysler vehicles. The other minor gripe is interior quality......it's very good, but not quite on the level of my RAM. The MSRP on the Honda is over $43,000 and at that price point the quality should match the window sticker. You also cannot get ventilated seats unless you buy a Canadian model, which I find puzzling. On to the good. 1st, the ride is great. Compared to other mid sized trucks the RL is a limo. 2nd, the cab space. The Ridgeline is wider than its competitors which allows a greater degree of comfort and roominess. 3rd, the trunk. Very handy place to carry things, and it locks!. 4th, the 2 way tailgate. Swinging the door instead of dropping it allows much easier access to the bed. One of the reasons for choosing a 2020 was the 9 speed along with paddle shifters providing the ability to select gears instead of having the transmission hunt and possibly overheat as reported by owners towing with 2017-2019 models. Would not hesitate to recommend the Ridgeline.....it's a nice choice as an all around vehicle. UPDATE: I now have 10,800 miles on the Ridgeline. It has towed our large trailer more than a few times and although it has to work on steep inclines, the V-6 is happy to sit in the 3,500-4,000 rpm range to gain the needed power. I did have a front strut replaced under warranty as it was noisy. It would creak in turns and over bumps so Honda replaced it no problem. Other than that it has been rock solid and still the most comfortable and spacious mid size out there. UPDATE: Liked the refresh in 2021 so much that I traded my 2020 for a 2022 RTL-E. With 10,000 miles so far, it is just as comfortable as the 2020 albeit with a prettier face. No problems to report. Gas mileage on this one is a bit better--chalk that up to variance due to mass manufacturing. Assembly quality not quite as good with a rattle or two to track down-mostly rear window noise over bumps.

Ok very simple I bought a new 2017 RTLT ; 2018 RTL,2019 RTLT AWD ,2020 Sport and a used 2017 RTLE .I strongly recommend to buy the RTLE because is the best option. Unfortunately the 2017 RTLE had some mechanical issues and sold it. Now I bought a 2020 RTLE and it is the best of the best everything is ok my only remark is that the front parking Sensor do not detect narrow objects in front of the car probably is because only have TWO sensors they need to add at least one more sensor also the info system is too slow so they need to increase the speed and the last one is the headlight low beam is LED but the high beam is YELLOW not LED I do not understand WHY they did not install the same LED QUALITY , the rest is PERFECT.

We bought this Honda in July of 2020 after selling our Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Yes it is a bit pricy but we found trucks are very pricey. This is one really nice comfort ride in a truck. You get all wheel drive too. Plenty of space in the cabin. Seats are all leather and very comfortable on a long ride. Some of the driving and safety aids are a little more annoying than helpful but you can disable most if you choose. One example is adaptive cruise control. It requires at least a car length space between vehicles. In the meantime vehicles jump in between you and slows you down more.however, we rarely use cruise control but if we did we would just disable the adaptive portion. The parking aids have excellent cameras for backing up or even backing up a boat with adjustable views. The electronics suck as phone, navigation and audio are ok. Occasionally it may lag or be a bit slow but we really have noticed it enough to matter. Just compared to others the touchscreen seems to lag behind others a bit. We are averaging about 20 mpg in our mainly city driving. On the open highway about 24. We love this vehicle and the comfort ride factor. It fit our needs with a really nice flat bed compared to all others that are annoying with the wheel barriers. Add in the extra storage/cooler in the bed and it really is an added bonus. We compared this to a Ford Ranger and the look on the outside is very much similar. The Ford will set up higher off the ground. The Ridgeline does have a lower ground clearance but we do not go off road at all. If you do it would be a good idea to think about how you will use this truck. Ours is just for a few home remodeling projects and daily driving and trips. There are no comparisons as far as ride quality. Add in the Honda reputation and I think the value will be much better in the long run. I would do it again but hope not for many years. Highly recommended.

While there are a few features I like on my 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E, there are many more I don't like I'll point out below. First, the ride, interior, seats, and two-way tailgate are great! But there are a number of things I don't care for: There is an annoying Auto stop idle feature that has to be disabled every time you drive, and there is an unnecessary ECO mode The no gear shift requires you to have to look every time you want to switch gears Blindspot activation comes on too close to rear end of your vehicle to take evasive action and the indicators would be better if located on mirrors Remote control features are confusing- for example tailgate will not unlock automatically with fob in pocket--requires pressing unlock button two times, then doing this will not also unlock all doors, requires pressing unlock two more times There is no instant radio mute on the steering wheel requiring you to decrease volume to lower radio Blue tooth phone requires multiple commands to make a phone call Collision monitoring system goes off continuously when going through a fast food drive through--can only be stopped by putting transmission in park! If you disable adaptive cruise control, you cannot use the lane keeping feature There are over 30 settings you have to decide on in the cumbersome and confusing NAV/Radio screen, its all touchscreen and confusing going back and forth Overall, unless you're a technology nut, I'd recommend a more straight forward vehicle

The Honda Ridgeline truck is the best riding truck that I have driven. This truck drives much like a car and is much easier to maneuver than my former GMC Canyon. The composite truck bed and hidden cooler under the bed is a nice touch. There is now ample room in the back seat area to transport my bicycle. The storage is much better than the other trucks that I considered. I am very pleased. with my decision to buy the Ridgeline. This “truck” has plenty of room in the back to haul items if you do not want to use the truck bed.

I purchased this Ridgeline when my wife commandeered my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. After researching several trucks, we decided the Ridgeline best met my needs. Purchased online as the only dealer who had the Pewter color I liked was 4 hours away (Thanks Gunn Honda San Antonio). There are lots of things to like about the Ridgeline. It rides very comfortably. The mileage is good. I love the dual tailgate and trunk. And the rear bed audio is cool. The engine offers ample power for my needs. And the AWD is good for little off roading I need to do (some ranch work and such). I am mostly happy with the "Ridge", yet there are times when I look at it and think..."it just doesn't LOOK trucky". It's not ugly by any means, but it just has such an SUV look to it. The Firestone tires that came with the truck are, again, adequate, but not very truckish (I do plan to replace them with all-terrains). One big complaint is the stereo interface. I knew about it going in, but didn't realize how annoying it really is. It's not very user friendly, although the actual sound is pretty good. My last complaint is that the turning radius is kind of wide. Remember this when parking somewhere. These complaints are really overall very minor. The truck does what it needs to do and does it well and comfortably. If you can find one at a good price, I highly recommend it. However, if you like a beefier look, hold out for the 2021 which seems to fix alot of these issues. Update 2021. The Ridge is doing fine. Runs well (did great at the beach) and is comfortable as a daily driver. Other than the aforementioned stereo and less than trucky looks, I have no complaints..

I test drove the 2020 ridgeline the same day as a tacona. The ridgeline is a fine vehicle. I narrowed my truck search down to the ridgeline and the tacome, no small reason is Hondas reliability (I've owned 3 hondas) I really liked the read fold away seats, two way tailgate, underbed storage, and the sunroof. There were a few things I didn't like, such as the 5 ft bed, a gearshift know, and difficult rear sight lines. It turned out that the rear sight line was the biggest deal for me as my house has a long driveway and I back down that every nite into the garage. Other than that, a fine vehicle

Complaints - i hate the push button shifter , and the start stop feature- which i bought a relay online to override that- so it is not an issue anymore . Holds strong resale vs a nissan or ford. Something I learned at 45K miles: XPECT TO HAVE TRANSMISSION AND DIFFERENTIAL OIL CHANGE AT 45K (most highway) miles. Honda recommends timing belt and water pump at 60K. Those are very expensive. Personally I am shocked that anyone will make an engine with a timing BELT in 2017... Honda warranty handling is appalling and you are buying into a gamble- stacked against you. They will not hesitate giving you used "remanufactured", or otherwise said "someone else's problem"), and do so even after repeated failures. You can show them 100% proof of an intermittent problem, but as their own guideline say, if the tech cannot replicate, the process ends and you are screwed until the warranty is over. I understand that the radio/nav is the same as in my 2017, which failed intermittently several times/ When by accident I managed to show it in store they replaced it TWICE with a used unit. If you buy a Ridgeline or any other car with this radio/nav, you are stuck - you cannot replace with non-Honda since you lose the capacity to set most car parameters, and you purchased a piece of junk that Honda will not stand behind. They will just replace one problematic unit with another, because for them an intermittent problem they cannot see apparently does not exist, even if you show video and pictures as I did. In short I am forever on my last Honda - car, motorcycle or airplane (Yes, I do try to warn my pilot friends of their airplane). The issue is less the technology than the lousy corporate attitude. I am now looking to replace my first and last Honda. From top cars they became... you decide.

How does one receive a top safety pick with such paltry braking performance? forget the nanny driver aids, as they cannot slow this car any quicker or shorter. I value shorter stopping distances as to avoid a collision altogether. It took Honda decades to rectify both the civic and accord brakes, perhaps next decade the ridgeline will follow suit,

My 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E is a fantastic drive. It feels like driving a car, but with the capabilities of a truck. It may not tow as much as other trucks it size. But the payload is just the same. And it's actually 4 inches wider, which makes for lots of comfort in the cab. The stereo system is as good as any home sound system, with 540 Watts and a subwoofer. The extra compartment underneath the bed Is amazing and great for tailgating. This is one of the best smaller trucks there is although small is relative. It has great acceleration and great handling. Love it,! Cheers,!

Safety features a hazard!

Love the Ridgeline after ten months at an average 24mpg over 9500 miles of mixed driving and light towing. However I detest the so called safety features and push button shift. On the highway if a little slush from a passing car gets on the radar sender the dash lights up like Christmas and warns of a variety of system failures and cancels the cruse. Frequently the collision avoidance will shake the wheel and brake as a car approaches around a curve in the opposing direction. Dangerous in the winter as it will brake in the wrong places on occasion. The start stop is just a pain particularly at momentary stops where you want to turn as you start out, as the lack of power steering for just that moment can disrupt the normal flow of events. All of these should be able to be disabled on a one time basis not as some are each time you start the vehicle. Adaptive cruse can be switched to standard cruse and some of these things managed. The worst part is I'll bet all the newer cars have these expensive disruptive pains promoted as wonderful. They are not ready for prime time regardless of the representations of the companies.

My 2020 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E is a well built vehicle however it has flaws that impact its desirability. Pros: Believe the reviews that say this is all the truck you need for 99.9% of all your mid-sized truck needs. Payload is almost 1600 lbs. I can fit 1.5 yards of bark in the truck bed. The truck is quiet, has excellent power and handles superbly. Road traction is quite good during wet and snowy conditions. 2024 Update-I still really like the appearance of this truck. Cons: The Honda Sensing technology is marginal on this vehicle. I’m experiencing problems with the Adaptive Cruise Control throttle mapping set for too slow of a response, multiple false brake alerts, false lane keeping assists alerts, automatic headlight dimming is unusable except on flat, level ground.

I have not had it long enough to make an informed rating, I will say that the vehicle has a very nice ride. I’m still adjusting to the push button shifting. One thing that I will say is the sport mode gives the Ridgeline a nice sound. So far my only complaint is that for the amount of money spent to purchase the vehicle, I feel that the tailgate should come with a locking mechanism. Yes the tailgate does not lock. I will update this post from time to time. The four star rating is because I have not owned it long enough

Do not purchase any Honda Ridgeline vehicle unless you don't mind an obnoxious intermittent motor noise coming from the dash board that Honda knows about but either refuses/can't fix. The factory claims it is a "characteristic of the vehicle" that the dealerships are aware of and yet AutoNation Honda in Tucson sold it without disclosing that this annoying noise occurs. Since purchasing, I have had other people tell me they have had the same noise as far back as 2009. (maybe why it was off the market for a while). Don't be fooled by the nice drive and gas mileage--the noise will drive you crazy as it becomes more frequent and louder. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Drives beautifully, comfortable, cabin is well appointed. The electronic interface is beyond frustrating and the owner's manual is useless. If you buy one, don't use the key fob to save settings; if you do, you can not cancel settings, that in my case show the ground while backing up- totally useless. The avoidance system activates without notice and shakes the front wheels, which is disconcerting at any speed. The bed cover is almost useless as it does not fold up completely; the useable space is less than 3 feet. This is not a pickup truck, it is a suburban van with limited bed space and terrible electronic controls. I plan to sell my 2020 ridgeline and buy another GMC 1500. I need a real pickup truck.

I bought the E-trim level new in Jan 2020. Since then, the windows open, including the sunroof, on their own from time to time. This happens when I lock the truck using the key fob. I've been lucky that this hasn't happened during a rainstorm as it would be quite a mess if rain entered through the open roof and side windows. Honda's answer, beyond a shrug, is to not put the key fob in my pocket after locking the truck. So, I guess I'm just supposed to carry the fob around in my hand?! It's not a practical solution. For this reason alone, I would not buy another Ridgeline.

To be fair, I read the other reviews here. Truly, this is not a bad vehicle, though I must admit, I haven’t driven one for enough miles or years to know this for sure. Pros: lockable trunk under the bed ; twin-action tailgate; nice looking; nice comfortable ride. Even entry models have neat features and the low models do not sacrifice any of the other ‘Pro’s’ listed.: Con’s: interior is entirely too small, unless everyone in your group is around 5 feet tall; tires are way too small for any kind of aggressive driving needs, and it would be difficult to upgrade to a larger size due to the technology and the lower powered engine; it rides great until you add a load but then feels taxed and even a bit unstable; even though it can tow, you can’t tow much; rear doors are very small, and they don’t open very far making it difficult for an adult to comfortably access in and out. Overall, if you’d like a truck, yes, you can call this a truck, which is trendy, with a complimentary smart feel, giving you an ability to perform very light duty, in the event this is all you need, and you’ll be mainly the only passenger as the driver, with the possibility of one other front row passenger, the Ridgeline just might be for you. From what I read this is a Pilot with a bed. Since the back seat is non moveable though, you’ll need small rear passengers or they’ll be uncomfortable, unless you want to be uncomfortable yourself during driving while nearly making body contact with the steering wheel. In other words, you sacrifice comfort for the bed; so make sure it’s what you want. If you are not sure, buy a full-size. Yes, I know, this means you won’t be buying a Honda, but the bright news is, most vehicle manufacturers have progressed so much in the last 15-20 years, leaving Honda’s trusted old ‘dependability’ a little in the shade. Plus, you’re most likely not buying a car to keep for 20 years anyhow, which means practically anything will do quite well.

New SUV - SUPER Utility Vehicle

Love my new Ridgeline. Does everything I want it to do very well. It's part luxury cruiser, part SUV, part truck. It rides great, has all the tech, looks great, has a nice amount of storage, passenger capacity all while allowing me to hit up the local Big Box store to haul home construction materials, landscaping supplies, etc. So many cool, smart features that make this a Super Utility Vehicle. Update (7-11-21) Enjoy the Ridgeline for 7 months now and still really like most things about the Ridgeline but there are I couple things I'm not too enamored with. I really despise the door locks. I drive three vehicles and I don't want to have to read and memorize 18 pages of options and settings just for locking / unlocking the vehicle. I doubt even the vault at Fort Knox has 18 pages of instructions! Also, some of the tech,i.e lane keeping assist, etc. is impressive, it has limits and can even get annoying while driving so I don't use it. As such, not sure how much it adds to a price of a vehicle but until you can reliably depend on it, I don't like the idea of paying for something that I don't use. Would you pay for cable TV if it only worked sometimes? Well maybe that's not the best example but you get my point. ;) Other than those pet peeve's, I really do like my Ridgeline! Drives well, handles well, nice interior, lots of room and provides the versatility I was looking for.

All The Truck Most People Need

I have owned a base model 2006 RT and now just purchased a 2020 RTL-E. Simply amazing! I loved my 2006 (172,000 miles+) but it was time and Honda Days deals were pretty good...especially that they are doing midcycle redesign for early '21. As great as the '06 was, the '20 is leaps and bounds better...this truck is like driving a BMW with none of the hassle, costs, and maintenance. Home improvements, sports, mild offroading, and family vacations it does everything I need. Some find the infotainment clunky, but I don't have an issue with it. Drives, handles, and shifts seamlessly though pushbutton transmission is different but you get used to it in a few days. It is bigger than than G1, but seems to drive smaller. Only downside could be rear doors they are more narrower than G1 but honestly i am nitpicking now. Unless you need to tow boats or large items you don't need a traditional body on frame truck.

Drives like a sophisticated high-end car and does everything you’d expect from a heavy-duty truck. The tailgate party compartment is fantastic for secure storage.

Our Ridgeline did its job. It’s interior case saved the occupants after a person barreled into them (skipping a stop sign). Due to the weight of the truck it spun when the other car flipped. Grateful for the superior craftsmanship.
