Great options, including a trunk. Easy to enter and exit vehicle. Comfortable ride. Sporty and fun to drive. And you can tow with it.

So I moved to the mountains and the gravel roads that go with them, and i needed a truck. Being a toyota guy, i wanted to like the Tacoma. It’s the most popular mid-sized truck in america—-what’s not to like? Well…it turns out there are a few things. After reading the reviews and realizing that i only needed the utility of a truck in small doses, the Ridgeline was by far the best choice for my occasional truck needs. After 5,000 miles in the 2020 RTL-E, what has surprised me the most is the ride quality and the creature comforts. The quality of the leather and comfort of the seats is better than my Avalon; i just drove over 500 miles last Sunday and the highway miles were a breeze, and the fuel economy was about 25 mpg with 87 octane despite exceeding 80 mph at times (my city driving yields only about 18 mpg). The Apple Carplay is a slow and twitchy disappointment that requires hard wiring the phone to the dash, but i have learned to just switch to bluetooth mode for wireless music streaming and phone connectivity, and the sound quality is quite good. i could not care less about the lack of a volume knob—-the steering wheel controls are terrific for volume and for all other functions (cruise, etc). i love the fold up rear seats for my older dog, a yellow lab that would have struggled mightily with another set up. i love the dual function tailgate. i don’t love the front end looks but i’m way too pragmatic to buy a truck just because it looks cool. It functions like a light duty truck and it rides like a dream. I may not love the more frequent maintenance schedule that this truck requires (differential, etc) but with what i have experienced about the Ridgeline so far, i’m willing to put up with that as long as it remains reliable. So far so good. UPDATE: I have now owned the truck for 9 months and 17,000 miles (I bought it used with about 9,000 miles so now have 26,000 miles on it). It developed a brake judder at speed and i had to have the front rotors resurfaced at 25,000 miles. That’s a disappointment. Otherwise it’s been flawless. No regrets—I would buy it again. October 2024 update: Now at 78,000 miles and still love it. I do full synthetic every 7,500 miles and do all the other maintenance as required, and it’s a bit pricier than my last Toyota—-but not unreasonable considering it’s AWD with differential, etc. Original tires lasted just past 40,000 miles, not bad—-but were noisy. Mileage is about 24.0 in mixed driving with 87 octane. All in all a very good, very comfy, very reliable truck. I’d buy it again.

Excellent compact truck with plenty of power and All Wheel Drive. I have had it a little over 2 years and no problems whatsoever! Drives like an automobile or high-class SUV, very smooth and reliable. The best vehicle I have ever had in the 57 years of driving.

Why I do not recommend this vehicle. As of today 2/24/2023 the backup camera has not worked on a 3 year old vehicle with just over 20,000 miles. Dealership has ordered the parts to fix it, but it’s on back ordered and would take months to get. Brakes are spongy. When placed in park, the truck moves up and down before coming to a complete stop, slow acceleration. Head lights are very dim. Updates 2/27/2024 - dealer fixed backup camera. A recall was done on the auto idle stops. Software updates made it worse. Auto idle completely stalled out engine at traffic lights, happened mostly in cold temperature. I fear this may cause an accident. I hope Honda gets its acts together cause it’s going downhill fast. Can’t recommend this vehicle. My vehicle has just over 30k miles. Oh, and the squeaky noise that comes from under the driver seat. You can hear it at every turn, bumps, and potholes. Sounds like a 20 year old vehicle. My 12 year old Prius with over 160k miles doesn’t even make a peep

I needed a modest sized truck to haul straw, brush, and wood on the farm. I liked the looks of the Ridgeline and heard glowing reports from other owners. I still like the bed size and looks but, operationally, it's been a real disappointment. I ended up putting a lot of miles on it the first two years, exceeding the warranty. Imagine my disappointment when the original battery was failing after two years. No longer under warranty, I had to pay full price for a replacement. Fast forward to 2024 when I parked the Ridgeline for the summer in late May and found it with no electrical system in late June. A four hour hook up on the charger was enough to make it crank but not turnover and the battery was fully dead several days later. Today we spent two hours getting it out of the garage and onto a tow truck to return it to the dealership for diagnosis. The biggest problem was getting it to start so we could back it out of the garage and load it onto the rollback. There was no way to shift from Park to Neutral when the vehicle wasn't under power. Fortunately, AAA operator had access to a super powered charger and we finally got it out of the garage and onto the truck. Accessing the battery for charging was a real challenge given the protective inner hood over the engine. Take a few aspirin before you try to line up the pegs and snap this in place. As mentioned by most, the electronics are challenging but this was my first new vehicle since 2011.
