I love this car. I've had mine a little over a year, and I have wanted one since this model year was new. It is built extremely well and they last forever with minimal expensive repairs. The engine is pretty peppy and it handles like it's on rails. The interior is comfortable and the exterior styling is beautiful. One of the best cars available for that price, in my opinion.

I used to own one of these. Some don't know, but in 90 and 91 you could get a from the factory built up 2.0L that was actually closer to 2.1L that had 197 hp. That is what I had. The car was amazing. It beat damn near anything you could possibly race on the street. Sadly it was an automatic, but it still did 0-60 in 6-6.5 seconds depending on tire spin while taking off. All that I can say is that I'm sad that I no longer have the car.

I found this one in excellent conditions. It has been very reliable. I have had three cars, a Ford, a Nissan and this one. The Nissan Sentra was brand new and it was a nightmare almost from the moment I bought it !!! Once I test drove the Prelude, I knew from that moment that it is real car !!! With proper maintenance it will run practically forever.

Only 2 previous owners. I bought this car off of a guy that was moving to England and HAD to get rid of it in about a week. I fell in love with the awesome styling and handling. I'm pretty new to manual transmission but It wasn't hard to brush up on with such a great clutch that hasn't had to be replaced. I already replaced the intake with a ram air and the muffler with an HKS slide-on. The car looks at home with much newer cars and runs as good if not better. I'm looking forward to keeping her running for years!

LOVE MY CAR... did I mention I love my car?

Had this Prelude since the day it was born. Love it.... love the 5 speed, love the handling, the gas milage (although 27 years later there have been improvements which I do not have in this car.) I've got 96000 on it. The trunk is enormous and has a passthrough as well. The seats are copies of Recaro and quite comfortable with a lumber pump. Highest visibility I have ever seen in a car. Ever. PS: It shouldn't matter, but I'm a female who loves her 5 speed.

Out of all the vehicles I have owned...Ford, Chevy, Lincoln, and Toyota, this car has outlasted all of them. All with only a minor Timing belt and AC problem. This Honda is still running strong and gets me to work every day 32 mi one way. I have over 145K miles and will love to see it double that without much maintance. The only thing you have to do to this car is change the oil. Shoot if you forget it will run on air!

The Prelude is a very reliable and fun to drive car. It looks great even by todays standards and always gets compliments. It's over 13 years old now, and it runs perfectly as if new. As soon as I test drove this car, I knew I had to buy it.

I always wanted a Prelude and I found one cheap. This has absolutely been my favorite car that I've owned. Very easy to drive and handling was excellent. Much faster than I expected. I was in an accident where I was t-boned on the highway that spun me 2 times in the center of the road. The car hit my rear wheel at about 55 mph and I was still able to drive it home. I'm planning to purchase a 1999 or 2000 model in the near future.

I purchased this car a year ago, and even after a number of part replacements, I still love the car and enjoy the ride. For those looking for an economical, sporty, and practical car, the 1991 Prelude fits the position. The car is cheap on gas, provides power and handling when needed, and offers a spacious interior and sufficient trunk space.

The 91 Prelude is a great first car. Its sporty, fast and powerful. The only downside is that performance parts are hard to come by. Also the B21a1 engine burns oil very quickly. Other than that, it's a great car.

I bought my 1991 Prelude from a friend who needed a bigger family car. He had it since he bought it new in 1991. The car is fun to drive and very responsive. I have the 4WS model and it corners very well. I love the body style of the 3rd gen. Preludes. It has 157,000 miles on it but still drives like it was new! These are getting harder and harder to find in good condition so I am glad I got one!

Had this car for 11 years before handing it off to my husband who drives many miles with it everyday. Excellent car! 136,000 miles now and still going strong. Spoiler and sunroof makes it. Fold down rear seat nice for moving items. One little rust spot on rear quarter panel and if not for that, looks brand new and still receiving compliments on it!

What do I now buy for my daughter

Bought this car for my son. It had only 46,000 miles and got from a fellow townie. OUTSTANDING. I had to put a timing belt, new exhaust, and a new battery over last 5 years. Shows no signs of wearing out. Classic look. Now my daughter is getting her license and it will be hard to find something comparable. Trust me I have been looking

One of the best cars ever

I have had a lot of cars in my driving lifetime (16 years) and this is the 3rd prelude I have owned. It was my favorite car in high school, so when I saw an opportunity to purchase this one I sold my motorcycle immediately to get the $4000 asking price. I have not been disappointed in the 2 years that I have owned it. From the appearance, it looks as though it was stored in a garage. The only thing that I would change it the trans (it is an auto) but with the sport selection it drives very well. Has great acceleration!

My uncle bought this car back in 1994. It's a 1991 Honda Prelude SI with 4WS. I felt in love with the car when I heard that it was 4WS. He then sold it to me for a very nice price. =) The handling on this car is awesome and you can feel the acceleration when you hit on the gas. The 4WS is very handy when making U-Turn and parking.

Old trustee

I owned this car for almost 8 years. It was my second car and it set the bar high considering I bought it at 10 years old. The steering was nimble and the handling was crips, with a lot of feedback. The brakes were excellent at stopping the car, with little fade. The B21A1 took quite a pounding from me in the early years, and kept on ticking. The hydraulic clutch was excellent and I never had to replace it. The first owner never had to replace it, so as far as I know it was original with 131,000 miles on it! It was by far, one of the best cars I drove in the snow and it was only front wheel drive! I traded the car in last night and miss it already. Goodbye old trustee!

A perfect first car, or even a car to just get from point A to point B. My Prelude has 185,000mi on it, and has always started up without a problem. This car is about 16 years old, and still many people tell me how much they like it.

I bought my Prelude in 1991 and have had almost 13 great years with it! I've never had any unexpected problems with it - just the routine stuff like timing belt, etc. If I could buy a brand new 1991 Prelude with 100 miles or less on it, I would buy one all over again!

After all these years the car is still a blast to drive and It gets its fair share of looks on the road. Electronics aren't that great but you can get by with the stuff that works. The cruise control died a few years back and the tail light indicator on the dash is always on but that can be ignored when the trade off is race car like characteristics on the road.

Bought the car off of a visual effects producer for the iron man movies here off the coast off NC. WILMYWOOD!!! He was on his way to hollywood for bigger and better things. Not a lick of rust. Car did not run off initial purchase. Did the normal tune-up, replaced the battery fuel filter and pump... Ran but had issue bogging out. BAD GAS TANK!!! Completely removed the gas tank, installed a fuel cell in the trunk, (am currently working on a slip-in insert to replace the factory one) after market pump, and regulator, factory filter. Fired right up!!! Drives like a dream. As many have said there is no love in the aftermarket world for this motor(B21A1). Even 27 going on 28 years later this car is slick black, gets hella stares, my mans before me had a dual tip exhaust installed and she roars rather than farts. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

2.1 4WS--Light, Nimble and Always Fun to Drive

Frank ODonnell, 01/02/2020

Few of the cars I have owned in my lifetime are as much fun to drive as the Honda Prelude. If you are familiar with these cars you know they are a product of the Japanese "bubble" period of over-engineering. The '91 SI example is probably the best Prelude of that generation. Add the four-wheel-steering option and you have one of the best made front-wheel drive Japanese cars ever. Magazines of the time diminished the value of the 4WS as an over-priced option, but buying one now with the feature is mandatory if you believe that the most important feature of a car is its steering and handling. (Isn't it what you do most every moment when you're behind the wheel?) During the late '80s and nineties the Prelude was Honda's technology tour de force and always got the newest features and safety upgrades before the other models in the lineup. The car I own now is my second Prelude. Even though this one is an automatic, it doesn't affect the fun you have every time you get behind the wheel. My advice is look for the lowest mileage example you can find and then drive it. You will not be disappointed.

I bought this car with 257,000 miles on it. It starts up right away every morning and has been more dependable than some new cars I have had. I get about 25 MPG.
