2004 Honda Pilot
Took delivery of my 2004 Honda Pilot on November 1 2003, so far this vehicle has proven to be the the best car I have ever purchased. The quality is excellent (as you would expect of a Honda), fit and finish are supurb and is also very quiet when you drive it....nothing rattles! After driving mostly Chevy Blazers in the past, my neighbors were shocked to see this new Honda Pilot in my garage! Having compared these 2 vehicles in terms of quality and overall dollar value, I found the Pilot to be the bigger bang for the buck. This vehicle is great, highly recomended!!
It's the little stuff
Solid ride, easy to drive, great gas mileage on the highway. Acceleration is surprising for its size.

The Pilot
I love my Honda Pilot! It rides nice and smooth like a car. I love everything about it. The only negative I have to say is that it doesn't get the best gas mileage and that the stereo system could be better, but it's comparable to most SUVs. I will definitely buy another. I LOVE IT!
Pilot 04
The Pilot drives like the Accord. It is easy to handle, and has a smooth ride (not bouncy like other SUV's). We've purchased other SUV's in the past that were difficult to drive over 60 on the interstate. The Pilot manages easy and is enjoyable to drive.
Great suv
This vehicle is the best suv we've owned. Have had suburbans and vans none can touch this. Fit and finish is superb. Only small complaint is gas mileage is not as good as advertised, as with all cars!! Tight fit for 7, but o.k. for 5 folks.
Honda PIlot, the BEST!!
It is very roomy, drives very comfortable.
Pilot of our own
Our sixth Honda - waited for the Pilot before plunging into SUV ownership. Heated seats means my wife drives the Pilot all the time. Radio and cruise controls on steering wheel make for safer driving. Interior design results in great versatility. We've used the third row seat maybe six times in nearly two years, and it was useful. Lots of room for two kids, two labs, and lots of gear. Wish list - curtain air bags, six disk cd.
LoveOurPilot
Great car. Lots of room for our 2 kids and plenty left over for "stuff" in the back.
Honda Pilot Review
First time Honda buyer, pleased with vehicle. It meets all expectations except for outside temp gauge which seems to be 10 degrees off and not pleased with passenger seat not enough adjustments to make it more comfortable. Pleased with regular gas usage. Great for economy in an SUV. Lastly dealership claims not enough knowledge provided to them about this new vehicle.
SATISFIED BUYER
THE RIDE IS EXCELLENT.I HAD ONLY 1 PROBLEM MY GAS GAUGE WAS NOT READING PROPERLY BUT THEY REPLACED IT AT THE SERVICE.I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN FUTURE MODELS THE BACK WINDOW TO OPEN IN SOME CAPACITY TO VENT ALSO FOR MY PET.I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO SEE MEMORY SEATS LIKE I HAD IN MY TOWN & COUNTRY MINIVAN.
Perfect family car
I love my Pilot.Perfect for the children, they love the Dvd system. Electrical outlets for all the portable electronics. No problems with anything mechanical.
Honda Pilot 2004 EXL-RES
Love the car. Drives well. Comfortable Enterior. Not Great on Fuel Milage (No SUV is). Lots of room for family (3 kids) and friends. Needs more protection on door panels from dings/scratches (already got first dings along passenger door on trim plate only after 1 week). Gear shift should be on floor - hard to shift. Wipers turn on backwards (down instead of up). Roof rack end piece flew off on freeway. Rattle in right front dash. Quality may not be as high as on early Hondas.
Lousy Gas Mileage
The Pilot seems well made, handles well, and has good features such as 8 passenger seating and fold down seats for carrying bulky loads from home depot. However, gas mileage around town has been terrible- 10 to 12 miles to the gallon is all we can get! Its a gas hog and I would not have bought it had I known of this. The pilot was leased and the dealership changed the sales price(cap cost)between the time we negotiated the deal and when we came to sign the lease. They flat out lied and tried to snow us when we were signing the lease. I would never again trade with this dealership, White Plains Honda.
2004 Pilot rating
Everything on my vehicle seems to be great except for the fuel economy. My mileage averages about 12mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the hwy, quite contrary to what is stated on the sticker. I recently had it brought in for service for a leaking gasket on the driver side passenger door. The problem seems to be resolved. If your looking for a roomy but not oversized SUV this is the one to buy, but don't look for great gas mileage with gas prices being thru the roof.
Still love my Pilot after 6 months
This is a great SUV, more comfortable than 2004 Toyota Highlander. I made right choice.
Great SUV
A safe and comfortable ride--not only in the city but on long road trips. This vehicle makes driving a pleasure with its smooth glide--and enough power when needed. A GREAT FAMILY CAR!
Pilot review
Have only driven about 2500 miles so far, but love this vehicle! It is well engineered and manufactured. Lots of glass amd low cut hood allows wonderful vision. Very smooth engine and transmission. Very comfortable.
great engineering
The fit and finish is the best of any SUV/Van I have owned. There are no rattles and squeeks. Lots of interior flexibility/space for large or small families. Sharp turning radius comes in handy for tight parking spots. Climbs over hills/mountains effortlessly with 255 HP engine.
I love my Pilot
Perfect for the family! We load up the kids, grandma and grandpa and all ride to the beach for the weekend! It handles very nicely and corners far better than I have ever experienced in an SUV. The Pilot just feels safe on the road.
Best SUV Value on the Market
We litteraly drove almost every SUV on the market: Ford, Nissan, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota. In the end, we bought the Pilot for several reasons. When you compare the build quality, features, and long term residual value, especially when you add in the 4WD, it completely beats everything on the market. The ride is outstanding, more like a large comfortable car than a truck, and it's wisper quiet. The LX is the best value of all of the models due to the lower initial price, and the same resale value after 5 years as the more expensive models. Plus, the Gray Body side moldings look better!
Pilot rating
This is a great car, it has a cup holder and places to put your cell phone everywhere you look. Drives just like a car.
Pilot Wins
Best bang for your buck. Big n roomy for a midsize and very quiet and smooth thanks to the car based not truck based chassis.
Not Great, just Good
Don't get me wrong, the Pilot is an excellent vehicle. This is my 6th Honda product and could be the best to date. At the top of the list of attributes is value. You get more for your money and you know its a reliable vehicle. When I place the key in the ignition it will start. Sounds simple, but that doesn't happen with all vehicles. I owned a Ford before and it left me stranded on more than one occasion. We added an aftermarket hitch and hauled a trailer with no problem. The plastics are a little hard and the leather isn't the softest, but still a very good grade on the interior. A big minus is gas mileage and style. I'm considering the GMC Arcadia, but I love Honda value.
Love this SUV
After much research, we were torn between the Highlander and the Pilot. After test driving both, we chose the Pilot. It is roomy and dependable. The smooth ride can't be compared.
SMOOTH RIDE
I HAVE ENJOYED THE QUIET RIDE VERY MUCH. BEING ABLE TO RIDE WITH MY WHOKE FANLIY OF 7 ADULTS AND BE COMFORTABLE IS FANTASTIC. GREAT FAMILY CAR
Smoooth
I purchased a 2004 EX, the 2003 had too much road noise(tires I presume). So I waited. I was impressed with this 2004, quiet, handling, comfort, and quality. I have less than 1000 miles showing but getting 20-21 mpg average driving which is not bad for a suv that weighs in at 4,440! We bought it because most Hondas with automatics can be towed flat on the ground behind a M/H.
Pilot
I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SUV. IT IS EXCELLENT!!!
My 2004 honda pilot
I have one and love it..nice on the road..and great gas mileage, especially since gas prices are going up.
SUV Perfection
After owning the Ford Explorer for 8 years, I was delighted with the Honda Pilot. The contrast between the two is dramatic. On every measure of quality and enjoyment, the Pilot overwhelms the Explorer.
SO FAR SO GOOD
Would make the Honda Pilot a perfect Vehicle if the doors locked automatically when put in to drive
Quality and Affordability
I've had my Pilot for 3 years and my wife and I couldn't be happier with it. It has never been serviced for anything other than scheduled maintenance. Plenty of passenger and cargo room. We drove it to Maine the first year we had it, which was a 10 hour drive. I drove almost the whole way and I have never been more comfortable in a vehicle than with the Pilot. I'm very impressed with the quality of this vehicle, with ample features for around $30k brand new.
I love my Pilot
I love it.After driving small cars all of my life I found that the Pilot was roomier but still just as easy to drive. The interior is comfortable and the car is fun to take on trips.
First Class Vehicle
We bought our Pilot new and have been extremely satisfied with it. It rides very smoothly and is very comfortable on long trips. Our maintenance costs have been minimal. I definitely intend to buy another Pilot.
2004 Honda Pilot
This is my first time driving an SUV and I'll never go back to a car. I've owned Honda Accords and have loved driving them. But after being up so high now I don't feel as comfortable when I get into a car. My husband and I are thoroughly pleased with the entire vehicle inside and out.
Very Powerful
Very powerful car requires less fuel. With 250HP and 5 speed AT, this car runs very fast and so I sometimes forget this is SUV. Inside is big and quiet.
My wife's best friend.
Purchased the Pilot labor-day weekend 2002. This is my wife's car and she loves it. Refers to it as her best non- human friend. We have had no problems with it whatsoever.
great car - horrible on fuel!
great suv but horrible on gas. please honda do something about the fuel ecomony! i'm lucky to get 17 mpg on hwy and 12 or 13 in town. thats not what the sticker price said!!! i could have got an expedition if i wanted that type gas mileage. i'm doing good to get 230 miles a tank. that's horrible!!
2004 Honda Pilot
Great SUV. Good Power, Fun to drive. Fuel $$$ POOR. We Have a Odyssey also. Reliable & Good Value.
LOVE THIS THING
ITS WELL DESIGNED. THIRD ROW IS ROOMY AND COMFY. EASILY SEATS 3 ADULTS.HAS A LOT OF FEATURES LIKE HEATED REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND HEATED SEATS. EXCELLENT HANDLING ON THE ROAD AS WELL
A Great & Practical SUV!
I am 30 days into driving my new Pilot and I love it! With three kids it gives me the flexibility to load all of them with friends at anytime. The DVD w/headphones allows me to listen to my favorite CD's or to actually talk with my wife! I especially appreciate the width and headroom...very comfortable. The interior design is well thought out and of high quality. Though not the most exciting exterior design it provides great visibility while driving. An excellent choice for a family man who wants something enjoyable to drive yet needs the flexibility to drive the cub scout den, baseball team, soccer club......
Second Honda and Lovin' It
Traded in my much beloved 2000 Odyssey (97,000 miles) and couldn't be happier. Why the heck can't an American manufacturer make a vehicle as nice as this.
My Pilot experience
The Honda Pilot is the best vehicle I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I have had BMWs', MBZs', Toyotas', Fords', Chevys', Infinitis', Nissans', and VWs', they do not compare to the reliability and effortless performance that I have received from my Pilot. I highly recommend this vehicle.
Pilot is performance perfected!
The car off the lot is well equipped; however, if you're looking for bells and whistles you're gonna pay! e.g. running boards/ air deflector/ ski rack/ cargo cover/liner/ wood trim/ 6 disc CD changer/ etc./ These can easily set you back another 5 grand or more depending on your ability to negotiate. Bottom line off the lot all the right things are right with this car. You can't go wrong, especially if you're looking for craftmanship, performance AND gas savings!
A Great SUV
Excellent preformance .... superb handling and best in class brakes
Absolutely love it!
I bought my Pilot after researching it for a year. I am so impressed with the room inside. It is definitely more spacious inside than it looks outside. I really love how the middle row can seat three people comfortably, something you don't get with most SUVs. It rides great, and I love how nimble it is. It drives just like a car, and I can get in and out of parking decks and parking lots with no problems. It is great for my family, and I can't wait to take it on a long vacation. It will be me, my husband, my young son, and my parents. My son fits fine in the 3rd row and loves it back there.
Saved my life in accident
I had an accident two weeks back with a deer and I was driving Pilot. Deer jumped from the woods on roadside and hit fast at high speed on driver side. Deer got killed on the spot. Hit was directly on the frame attached with the driver side rear view mirror. My pilot's windshield got shattered. Damage was on the side door.No one was injured. I own another Toyota Corolla and if the same happened in that car, it would have killed me. I thank god that I was driving Pilot at the time of impact.
Fine Vehicle
The Honda Pilot is a fine vehicle, loaded with amenities, it is larger inside than the outside appearance would make one believe; also we are pleased with the short turning radius and that the car takes regular fuel, a real economical plus. The only complaints I would have with the car is that on our Pilot the front passenger seat is manual with few settings for comfort. Another problem I see is the lack of ac/heat vents in rear of vehicle this does cause some discomfort for passengers in back area of car in hot weather. And on our 2003 model the outside temperature gauge does not register the correct outside temp.
Why spend more for the Acura?
The 2004 Pilot EX is the 2nd Honda I've owned. After doing a great deal of market research and sitting down to identify the characteristics I needed (and in some cases wanted) in an SUV, the Honda stomped the competition. Bottom line, I was ready to step up to a more refined vehicle. The Pilot is the best all-around vehicle on the market. I bought the vehicle at Edmund's True Market Value and was happy to get the deal. If you're in Southeastern Virginia, Checkered Flag Honda in Virginia Beach is worth the drive. No high pressure sales pitch. Test drove one day and came back two days later and bought the vehicle.
A Good Choice
Having done a lot of research I decided that the Pilot EX model was the best overall value for the money. It rides nice, has excellent pickup and a boatload of room. My kids love it and as far as reliability or resale value it kicks the pants off of the Trailblazer or the Highlander. If you're not sure, I recommend you drive one and then shop around to get what you really want, a good reliable suv that you can be proud you bought. I am.
Disappointed
I've now owned my Honda Pilot for 10 months and logged 20,000 miles both in town and on trips. I'm finally giving up and turning it in. My major complaint is comfort...my 6'2" husband and two pre-teen sons feel like sardines on trips. At 5'10", I can barely stand sitting in the second row seat. My second complaint is gas mileage. Despite a 17/22 rating, I'm lucky if we get 18 on trips...initially we were getting 15 in town. When I returned to the dealership they said the mileage would improve after the first 10,000 miles. It has improved slightly, but still nowhere near the stated rating. This SUV is fine for the driver and front seat passenger, but is not a good family trip car!
