Foggy Windows and No New Car Smell
We have had our Honda CR-V for approximately 6 months. It was hot when we got the car, and I immediately noticed our windshield would fog up while driving. I naturally had the AC on, but I had to keep it set on the front vent to avoid continued foggy windows. Now that we are in winter, I find that the windows continue to fog on the inside, particularly when several people are in the car. Recently, 4 adults rode in the car and the windows fogged to the point where we could not see. I was afraid we were going to have to use an ice scraper on the inside of the windows! It was very embarrassing to have our friends see this problem with our car. They kept saying they felt sorry for us. UGH! I also noticed early on that my car no longer had a new car smell. I have had new cars before, and this was a red flag for me. Perhaps it is due to the ventilation/AC issue - I hope so. My husband experienced the diluted oil issue when he changed the oil the first time. He was surprised at how the oil "shot out" when he opened the plug. We had not seen posts on the diluted oil issue, so he figured it was related to first-time maintenance. We had a Honda Accord, which we loved, so I did not do any research when I purchased the CR-V. I trusted the company, which I now know was a mistake. Our vehicle was made in Canada. We have already received a product recall for a software update with A/C Control Unit Replacement. Hopefully, that will correct the window fogging issues. I am concerned about the bigger oil dilution problem, and I hope Honda admits to the issue and issues a fix.

Love it even though I still barely know it
After exhaustive research on crossovers, numerous spreadsheets, etc, I had narrowed my choice down to the Honda CRV EX, the Toyota RAV4 XLE, and the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. I ended up with the Honda and after approx 1000 miles, I have no regrets. This is a very practical car, but also quite fun one as long as I take it out of ECON mode. The turbo engine has some serious kick to merge into traffic, and then once I have merged, I put it into ECON mode. After numerous trips from Denver into the mountains for skiing, I am still averaging over 31mpg. I am still learning all the features of the amazing entertainment system. We are really looking forward to our first road trip with mountain bikes in it! The RAV4 just felt simple and primitive inside and the big 19" wheels on the Hyundai made it ride way too rough for my comfort.

Jack of all trades, Master of none
Before I get into details, let me say I have been a big fan of Acura/Honda over the years and the CRV is the fourth Honda product I've owned. But, it seems to me the company is becoming more bland with every passing year. The vehicles are lacking excitement overall. I unloaded my 2007 Sequoia in favor of modern efficiency offered by the CRV, and I think I was expecting more satisfaction in the ownership experience. The CRV is good at many things, but not really great at anything in particular (except gas mielage) once you get past the new car euphoria in the first few weeks. The positive: solid gas mileage and a ton of useful interior space for a small footprint, very comfortable seats, a lot of value in the EX trim. But, it's generally under-powered (a 2.0L turbo would be a nice option), somewhat noisy, and the CVT makes me feel like I'm sitting on a rubber band that sort of stretches but never quite does anything. Eco mode is dangerous if getting on the highway with any traffic at all due to dismal acceleration. The adaptive cruise control is quirky, and has unexpectedly and abruptly slowed the vehicle down on the highway causing me to be concerned about getting hit from the rear. The doors feel tinny, and the designers almost overdid the numbers of angles and curves that are incorporated into the dashboard design. I personally would prefer a traditional style speedometer and tachometer to the digital display. The phone integration is sort of a pain and very poor sound quality according to people on the other end of the call who can never clearly hear the person in the car. The radio and system electronics are just ok, but too many features are locked out when the car is actually moving. Could not get up my driveway in 6 inches of snow this past winter - not sure if it's the eco-friendly tires or lame AWD system. This vehicle is mostly used by our daughter who is a new driver. I appreciate the general safety features, excellent visibility, and not worried about her getting out of control with too much power. This vehicle will more than satisfy most people who are not really tuned into the driving experience and just want to get from point A to point B with minimal hassle. Sort of wish we got a pre-owned X3 or Q5. I'll stick to my VW GTI and let the kids use the CRV.

Save yourself a lot of grief...look elsewhere
I purchased my 2018 CRV new. I have had nothing but issues with the heat and defrost functions. I took it back to the dealer four times already and their standard response is that is just the way new cars are now, they don't produce heat. I have even purchased a thermostat for the interior because there is just no heat. The ONLY way I can get the stupid car to heat is if I drive it longer than 40 minutes, then it finally starts to warm up around 70. The windshield is a nightmare, the defrost does not keep it clean of snow and ice. In this area of Wisconsin, that is a necessity, not an option. Either I missed this, or the reviews by Consumer Reports and Edmonds are not reporting this defect. Shame on you, as had I know this, I would never have purchased this car. I can't say enough negative about Honda and the CR-V. *Update, it handles HORRIBLY in the snow and on the ice. I would recommend the Subaru Forester, much better handling in the snow and on ice.

Pleasure to drive
This car is easy to get into and out of and fun to operate. Visibility of the road ahead is clear and the added safety features are what I wanted and need at this stage of my driving career. The car is comfortable. My back feels the lumbar support. I love the turbocharged engine which gets me onto the highways quickly and safely. I would recommend the Honda CR-V to anyone looking for a new car.
