Miss my 2000 Accord!

Beware the electrical system! Just traded my 2017 CR-V EX L with 3684 miles due to ongoing electrical failures. Sensors drain the battery, warnings lights flash, gas tank warning when tank half full. Worse, now the sun roof cracks open and the windows roll down when the car is off! Dealership has tried to fix, but new problems appear. Loved the car for the first 2 years, but it had to go. This was my third Honda, and my last.

Watch your oil!

Some of the amenities offered are done half way- remote start- only puts on defrost - doesn't heat seats, turbo engine- no get up and go..., V6- not an option etc... We have dealt with a cracked mirror casing that they would not replace- $750. A battery that died and left me stranded at 30,000 miles that they would not replace. And now we have an oil plug that magically came out (no evidence of scraping or tampering) and our engine is damaged but because it has been a month since the oil change (they are the only ones that have ever serviced the car) we are stuck with a $6600 bill. I will never buy another Honda- EVER!!

There are issues with this car

I purchased a 2017 CR-V after seeing the redesign. I previously owned a 2014 CR-V. There are a lot of issues Honda needs to work out with this car. First, the technology. The touchscreen routinely freezes and glitches, even turning different colors, and Apple/Android often don't work or glitch out. I got the touchscreen replaced and this didn't fix the problem. The safety features often don't work in anything but completely perfect weather. If it's raining, forget having the lane watch or adaptive cruise. The road noise is loud, and the USB ports are not in very good places. The shifter knob can break easily. Also - like others have said, the oil dilution issue. It honestly feels like Honda rushed this one out, and is not the gold standard of reliability and quality that Honda used to be known for.

lots of room but poor on tires and support

We shopped around for quite awhile until we found what we wanted. The honda crv- exl is easy to get in and out for my 6ft4inch frame that weighs 285 lbs. Through edmunds . com we were steered towards Ziegler Honda in Kalamazoo. I got my final out the door price and other dealers could not match or come close so we purchased from them even though they are 70 miles from our home. There was no pressure and so far they continue to come through on questions, plates etc. Sales person gave us a specific web site to go to that answers many questions on operation of the vehicle. We are getting up there in years and this vehicle and dealer meet our current needs. Vehicle rides nice, has good visibility and steers fine. With so many various controls it is hard for an old man to remember everything but we are getting there. After only 13000 miles the tires went bad(cheap low grade tires I guess) called the dealership and got no help whatsoever, just" we do not guarantee tires," I wanted some satisfaction as to how to resolve the issue. Doubt if I would purchase again. The only help I got was you should have been offered a tire upgrade upon purchase and I was not and what reputable car manufacturer would put "cheap Tires" on a car that puts the owners at risk? Disappointed with this and hope it is not the case with other parts of the car. Purchased tires from a local tire dealer and they have 50000 miles on them with very little wear. For my second review I have to say a little disappointed, gas mileage has gone down, in winter the back up camera gets snow covered and does not work properly, slush and snow get under the bottom of the doors, takes awhile to warm up(heater) compared to my other vehicles Now the gear shift control fell apart and had to be replaced. No recall but the dealer said Honda is aware of it and will cover cost of repair, in some cases it has broken within the first several hundred miles. Expected more quality control. My new tires(not from HONDA) have over 57000 miles and show little wear and tear. Regarding technology we appreciate the ability to "pair" our phone with the car but too often it just switches over to the phone with no prompt from us, also when changing from AM to PM or Sirus it freezes or goes to the phone, not always but enough to drive you crazy. Wife likes the car so happy wife happy life. For my third review, we have had problems with various technology, on a long trip we got a message that there was an error with the tire pressure system, low tire pressure, we were 300 miles from home. Ended up at a gas station and purchased tire gauge and yes we were loosing air. Pumped it up at the station and looked for tire repair place that was open, no luck. Spent the night at hotel and checked in the morning and pressure was ok. Got home , had tires checked and they had no flaws or leaks and everything has been ok since. Have had similar issues with headlight system giving error codes but they go away and dealer could find nothing wrong. Gas mileage on long trips (1000 miles) was excellent with 35.6 average with a nice smooth ride except the low tire pressure issue. Now in 2020 the gas mileage on trips continues in the mid 30's but around home for short trips it is down somewhat but still good at around 28, when new it was about 32mpg on short trips. The spot to plug in the phone to charge is in a terrible spot, continue to have issues with technology ( screen goes blank, have to reset it) Prior to a trip this summer the car would not move forward at times and we would get a message on the "hold Brake system" Garages closed and we went on our way Happened again while on vacation, no Honda dealer within 75 miles so went to Toyata dealer-low and behold it is a problem with Crv caused by a battery going bad. New battery and months later still no problems. U tube solved our problem along with Toyata. sorry to say. Wife continues to like her car so I have to be pleased with that! Next review, wife continues to love her vehicle, have had no further problems. She will want to keep it forever. Mileage continues about the same.

Torque Converter / Transmission

at 2000 miles we experienced slight vibration when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Dealer found the torque converter was not functioning correctly and replaced it. After researching this issue, I believe Honda has an issue with the Torque Converter / Transmission over heating to the point that the fluid is breaking down and causing other issue. (damage to: torque converter, needle bearing, solenoid) This has been in an issue in Honda models since 2005. I expressed concern to Honda of North America and I was stonewalled. I have concerns that the repair made by our dealer will not last. Torque Converters / Transmission issue should not be present for 200000 miles plus.

125K UPDATE: Kudos to Honda

After three months, 32-33 mpg (measured). PROS: Mileage, comfort, room, handling, ride, quality of materials, cargo capacity, value, push-button start, walk-away locking, collision mitigation, android auto, shifter location, up-front bag storage, standard equipment on EX, visibility, styling. CONS: No tuning knob, digital instruments, small gas tank (14 gal), funky gas & temp gauges. It'also easy to turn off the info illumination when adjusting the volume. The cloth seats are of high-quality fabric and well-styled.. We like the matte wood trim, but we would prefer that all dash panels not be black regardless of the interior color chosen. Too bad the safety equipment is not available on the lower trim level. UPDATE: 15,000 mi. 31-32 combined mpg. on mostly hilly, rural roads. Still the top compact SUV even among recently-redesigned competitors. Brakes are a bit touchy. It takes a heavier foot to get the CVT off the line quickly, otherwise the tranny is indistinguishable in normal driving. Digital instruments are easy to read (except for the hockey-stick fuel & temp), but we still prefer analog dials. The constantly-moving instant mpg gauge is useless and cannot be deleted by itself. All audio functions should be dials and real buttons...touch screen is useful only for default settings. Still wonder why Honda would install such a small gas tank. The safety features are a mixed bag. Lane Keeping Assist mostly wanders and auto headlights do not anticipate oncoming traffic while dimming incessantly to lighted road signs, billboards and Christmas decorations. Blind Spot detection and Rear Cross Traffic warning work well. If you approach the car in your garage without your keys, you can't get in without disabling the auto-lock feature. Despite the few nits, we are still very happy with overall performance, comfort, cargo, materials, ride, noise, and most features. We also like that all CR-Vs are built in three US assembly plants. UPDATE: Now 32K and not much has changed. MPG remains 30-32. Small gas tank still a puzzle. Turned off Lane Keeping Assist and Road Departure Mitigation which proved over-active and unreliable. The rest of the safety gear works well. Note to all automakers: Place shifter on the dash to free-up floor space like most minivans and pickups do. Our '02 CR-V had a handy mini-shifter next to the radio. Maintenance schedule is a bit aggressive, but this is our first CVT. Replaced chintzy original carpeted floormats with rubber. No visible wear on any materials. Original tires have become noisy and probably will not last another 10K. No oil dilution issues. The dealer says they sell 30 CR-Vs per month and he has only seen one with the oil problem. The trip odometer resets when fueled and you can access previous trips on the touch screen. Headlights are poor...all style and little illumination. The lever for rear seatback release is handy. Works well in snow and long, icy driveway but there is no way to tell if or when 4WD kicks in. Others in this segment are closing the gap, but, in our experience, there is no reason not to pick the CR-V. 39K UPDATE; Replaced original tires at 37K. Why no mileage warranty? Why don't original-equipment tires last as long as replacements? Mileage may have crept up a bit. All is well. 47K UPDATE: Replaced shifter button which flew across the cabin one day. Honda covered under recall. Consistent 33-34 mpg combined. Touch screen has gone blank twice, but came right back. Other bloggers have noticed as well. I notified the dealer before warranty expired. Replacing the windshield which has developed a crack across the bottom. The glass company says an aftermarket piece will not work with the mounted safety gear and only original Honda equipment will do. Update: 60K and all good. I still prefer analog gauges and a geared transmission, but the rest of the criteria are all hits. The CRT is a bit slow off the line and requires a stab to que the horses, but when going does so with adequate oomph. Every once in a while I get a message that the safety gear is inop, but, upon restart, all is well again. Mileage remains a consistent 33-34 mpg (m) and I keep wondering why only a 14-gallon tank. No significant issues and my dealer is affordable, although they insist on the questionable-but-common practice of adding "shop supplies" to each bill. Now four years and counting, I can't think of another vehicle I'd choose over it and there is no reason to trade for a new one. I think I'll keep it. UPDATE 84K: Runs like new. No issues. Nice ride, comfort, reliability. Still not a fan of digital dash, CVT, or small 14-gallon fuel tank. Indicated MPG now 34-37 combined. Needs real buttons for audio. UPDATE: 111K; all warning lights came on, cleared and did not return. Diagnostics showed miss on #1. Glitch? New plugs & battery. Still rides well, comfy, roomy, fuel economy, no wear on cloth seats. Road noise more than competitors. Honda: return shift lever to dash & fold-up tray between seats as on 1st & 2nd generation. Newest generation shows little change. Still the top choice for compact SUV. Keep on truckin'. 125K UPDATE: At about 120K, all warning lights illuminated. Off and on every couple of days negating all safety systems. This problem occurred several times before, but thousands of miles apart and only for a few hours, but I informed my dealer early on. Now, after several unsuccessful reboots, resets electrical tweaks, my dealer recommended a $1,700 fuel injector replacement, and, although thousands of miles over the warranty period, Honda agreed to foot the bill. Now, 5,000 miles later, all is well, at least for now. Kudos to Columbia Honda for convincing Honda to do the right thing. I think we'll keep her.

Great Honda, Great SUV, Not an Acura

This is a very high end Honda, but this is not the quality of materials (the leather seats), or the fit and finish (particularly the rear hatch seams.....), of my Acuras. I assume it will have the same reliability as the 8 other Honda products I have owned. Details: average mileage is ~25 MPG; when you go over 78 MPH the turbo is on all the time, mileage drops fast (to around 22 MPG?); transmission is good, even acts like it is shifting when you push it hard (I like it?); rear seat room is awesome; handling is awesome; the leather on the front seats is weak, really weak, it will wear fast; get the all weather floor mats, they are awesome; the fit of the rear hatch baffles me, it is so bad I can almost get my finger in the seams....weird; the infotainment system is aggravating at best, very confusing; bluetooth is crazy, out of control, takes control of your phone even when you have deleted your phone; Android Auto works fine, but be prepared, Android Auto messes up your phone bad; Apple Car Play also works fine, but that product is terrible; love the deep white Touring color; AWD is awesome and seamless; There is a slight vibration at 78 MPH, I think it is the turbo not being isolated - I am getting used to it, so not a problem; we have 6K on the CRV. This CRV looks so much better than any of the previous versions, that is why we took a look at it. We do love it, quirks and all. We have 4 grown kids, and 2 grandkids, and we think this will make a very nice hand-me down at some point in the future - as did my 99 TL, my 05 Odyssey, my 08 Fit, and my 09 TSX - and 92 and 93 Accords....ugh....yeah, that is not all the Honda products, but most of them..... 2 Updates 10-12-2017: 1. The vibration around 75 MPH+ continues. We took it to the dealer, they said there was no vibration. There is a vibration, and it is annoying on long road trips when you are on cruise control. 2. Mileage is better, we are now consistently above 25 MPG, even when accelerating hard.

The good - I love the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping features. The car handles well for an SUV with a high center of gravity, and it has a tight turning circle radius. The auto-walkaway locking system is nice - it just locks itself if you forget, and walk away. The sound system is not very good, certainly not like any of the name-brand ones, as in other brand cars. The road noise is vary loud, and may be due, in part, to the tread pattern on the tires. My back-up sensors work fine, but the warning speaker is in the rear of the car, and the volume (not adjustable) is so low the it cannot be heard over normal conversation in the front seats. I have the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) systems in my car, but they are inoperative even though they're turned ON - *another* dealer visit soon. And, if they did work, the manual lists so many exceptions that their usefulness is uncertain. My mileage, in ECO (economy) mode is around 30 mpg, with the 1.5 liter turbo engine. The same mileage that I got in my big Chrysler 300 with a 3.8 liter non-turbo V-6. And the Chrysler was way quieter inside. I'll probably be looking at ways to add soundproofing to this car in the near future - it needs it. All that being said, I like the car - mine is the Obsidian Blue color - I didn't get the Lava (which looks really nice in the brochure) because I couldn't see one in person (none on the lot). One really bad thing I have discovered is the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). It uses the axle speed sensors used by the abs system. As the Honda book states - all four tires must be the same "brand, model, size, and of equal wear". So, if you, like I had to do, have to replace just one tire, it will not be identical to the others, and the TPMS warning system will constantly alert and alarm. This CANNOT be reset or turned off. I have confirmed this with Honda. This means that, if you need to replace ONE tire, you MUST replace ALL FOUR. Update: After a year with this car, the mileage is now around 37 mpg, it's still very noisy, the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is still inoperative and the dealer can't (won't) fix it. The fit and finish seem to be holding up quite well. Mileage on the car is now 13,000. This is my first car with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and I love it. Also, while driving in ACC mode, the CMBS works, but not otherwise (advertising to the contrary).
