My Review
Runs well, always starts, easy to work on, driver's side window motor failed after a few years, otherwise no problems except the A/C compressor self-destructed this summer (2007) and contaminated the entire HVAC system. Dealer wants $3200 to replace everything. I disconnected the drive belt instead. We are seeing much better fuel mileage since then.
uncomfortable
Gas mileage is excellent. Interior awkward and uncomfortable. Everything is too high. Cannot turn the smallest corners without everything sliding all over. Cups fall out of cup holders everytime you make a turn.

cr-v
I adore my car - somehow I lucked out and found one that is much, much quieter than most of the cars from this year. Handles well at all speeds, although periodically there is some steering wheel shake above 90 mph. I also have tested the gas mileage I get - several times- and I get somewhere between 25-28 mpg, as opposed to the reported 21 mpg. The breaks are excellent and very responsive. Tight turning radius. I love the column mounted steering design, but it takes some getting used to if you're switching from a regular sedan or SUV. The cup holders are weird, and the lock and window switch placement is bizarre.
Hated CRV
I hated this car. I was uncomfortable driving it - both the seat and the seat back were hard. The armrest was in an awkward position and was uncomfortable. The ride was awful - not enough power. Going up a slight incline was a struggle. Glad to be out of it and back into an Accord.
Timing Belt Busted, Engine Done
Bought at ~188k mileage used; took it to a dealer and had about $1500 of work done to get it in shape; regular oil changes thereafter. I had hoped to drive it for many years to come based on good reviews of Honda's reliability and high mileage; unfortunately at around 212k the timing belt blew and now the shop tells me the engine is done. Pretty disappointing.

Good
Very good, dependable car. Great gas mileage and very roomy. would highly recommend for a small family or single person.
I love my CR-V
It has been many years since I had a car that has been this much fun to drive. The manual transmission gives me control, it is responsive, easy to park, fits in the garage just fine and is comfortable and useful.
Overall great suv
i felt that i shoud give my review of this suv before i traded mine in.Over all its a great ride.just had a few problems.1)i have noticed that when u take a very hard turn such as a u-turn it make a wierd ticking sound like an axel is mess-up but i came to find out its comon in all crvs.It never hampered my driving.2) on long trips i found my feet going numb.well i am a tall guy about 6'0.i found myself shaking my legs awake while driving.my wife who is few inches shorter never complained about it.but i do most of the driving.3)for a 4cyl its pretty powerfull.
Honda CRV- Most dependable & Comfortable
I love my Honda CRV. I have driven two types of vehicles my entire life. The Honda is and always has been the most comfortable, safest, dependable.
A wonderful vehicle
What can I say - it's a great vehicle if you want comfort, ease of use, reliability, and room. If you want power, off road utility, or hauling look elsewhere because the CRV and Honda make no pretenses about doing those things well here.
Honda Employee Buys A CR-V
I worked for a Honda dealership for several years and this was by far the employee choice of car. When buying a gen 1 CR-V, installing the passenger side armrest is a MUST. For $50, why wouldn't you want your passengers comfy?!? I can load anything into my CR-V from furniture to a christmas tree and I can even haul a small U-Haul with it. Unload everything, flip the seats up and you can parallel park it anywhere. With today's gas prices it is a great choice and my favorite Honda.
Amazing Surprise
My wife suggested this vehicle. We were wanting to 'downsize' from our GMC Yukon that was costing $300 per mo for fuel and was hard for her to park. The CRV amazingly enough is comfortable for my 6'3" frame, my wife is tall as well and can stretch her legs completely out in the passenger seat, and it has plenty of room for our two kids too! Wow, what a difference, cheaper insurance costs, easy to park, plenty of room for groceries, garden supplies, books, backpacks and general every day utility. It handles well and the difference in quality between our CRV and the Yukon is like night and day. My only concern is the missing armrest on the drivers side... what's that about?
My Best Vehicle Yet!
My Honda CR-V works for me. I do a lot of yard sales and often need to transport large items. The back seats are so easy to fold down, that I don't hesitate to make the adjustment at a whims notice. My family was here on vacation this summer. They drove up in a full size mini-van. With the way gas prices were increasing daily, we opted to use my CR-V. My son and his family will be in need of a replacement vehicle very soon and I'm planning on giving them my 2000 CR-V and purchasing a new one for myself.
Happy CR-V owner
My CR-V is now 6 years old and I have been very satisfied with its performance. Routine maintenance is all that has been required, except when I was rear-ended. Thankfully, after a rear bumper and the crumpled exhaust system was replaced, it was fine.
Great get around vehicle.
Great vehicle to get around town in.
best car ever owned
replaced driver side elect.window motor, replaced fluid in awd unit, replaced front rotors ( my fault) too much road noise, great car in snow and ice except when making turns even at slow speeds.
Great for SMALL family
I love the CR-V. It's reliable, runs well and (with the rear seats down) hauls a lot of cargo. Unfortunately, once my wife and I add a second child we will need to upgrade as it just won't carry all of our stuff when we travel long distances.
Honda CRV rolls on
No 8 off the production line for year 2000. Got it in Dec 1999. We had our first repair at 145,000, the hydraulic shifter, it's a stick shift. Runs great and we are at 155,000+ now. Seat fits my wife fine but a little small for me though we both can drive despite the difference in height. It is noisy, but the best vehicle We have ever had. The all wheel drive is a big plus. typically get 24-25 miles to the gallon.
A+ reliability
Very reliable Honda. drove 33k Mi without any problem. The CR-V is not really for racing or extreme off-road. It's a friendly fun SUV.
Honda Crv
A good used car that has held its value and will continue to do so as I own it and hopefully i will be able to trade it in and again have equity
Excellent small SUV
My CR-V has been nothing short of perfect for me over the past three years. Though it has had a few minor problems (the driver's door rattled for a bit) I couldn't be happier. For a college student who wants a good ride with space for a dorm room to take home at the end of the semester and decent fuel economy (I get 23 on average) this is a perfect car.
CRV Review
The CRV is great to get around town, but due to it's limited engine, highway driving is not as fun.
Love It
No worries. Replaced tires and brakes, oil and windshield washer fluid ... and of course gasoline. That's it. Like Timex, it just keeps on ticking. My husband wants me to get a new car, but I love my CR-V and don't want to change!
none
looking to buy, read all reviews and sounds like a champ!
Very Cool Mini SUV!
I love this vehicle. It is my first SUV, my first Honda. Perfect for my 80 mile daily commute in MN weather! It is very solid, sturdy and quick. I feel safe, confident & cool in this CRV! There are only 2 things that I don't care for: 1. cup holders: too shallow, cups tip over (I fixed it by putting 1-sided sticky foam inside the holder) and 2. the seat belts are awkward to fasten.
Great Car
I love it. This car was also a perfect fit for me. I researched for months before buying it. It is a bigger car that doesn't overwhelm you, it gets good gas milege for its size, just a really fun car to drive. Now I am about to buy a new 2002!!
MY VERSATILE CRV
MY CRV PROVIDES ALL THAT I NEED IN A VEHICLE. I AM ON THE ROAD EVERY WEEK. I NEED A VEHICLE THAT I CAN DEPEND ON, AND THE CRV PROVIDES THAT RELIABILITY. IT IS ALSO VERSATILE. I HAVE HAULED MANY DIFFERENT ITEMS AND HAVE CONFIGURED THE VEHICLE IN MANY WAYS.
Good car overall
Good Quality Build but needs lacks power. Built well for tall people (I'm 6' 2" and has a lot of room for cargo with seats down. A little noisy and the radio isn't the best
I'm first???
I did a lot of research before choosing the CR-V. I was most concerned about reliability, value, and maintenance. Looks aren't much of an issue when you're stuck in a snow drift. So far, I've been very happy with it. My previous vehicle was a '95 Windstar and I was never so happy as to dump that puppy. The CR-V doesn't have as much room as a mini-van, but now I'm not asked to tote the entire soccer team everywhere either. :-)
Excellent
This is the best of all the mini SUV's. fun to drive.
Thumbs Up
As a relatively short person I find an ease in getting in and out of the vehicle without needing running boards. It is large enough to see around other vehicles in parking lots yet not so big that you feel you are driving a tank. The only flaw which has since been corrected in the 2002 model is the lack of horsepower for its size.
Great Value
We needed a larger vehicle for our 2 small children when commuting and for vacations and the CR-V fits perfectly. Great ergonomics (except for window switches), gas milage, and storage capacity.
197K miles and going strong
Purchased my CRV in 2002 with 50K on it. I am 6' tall and there is plenty of headroom. Comfortable seats, could drive all day in it. Love the visibility. Dependable. Lost radiator this year. No other problems. Gas mileage has been good, about 28-29 mpg highway doing 70mph. Once in awhile I'd like a bit more pep, but overall no concerns. I'd like to keep this vehicle for many more years.
2000 Honda CR-V SE
I notice a litle more road noise than I expected.
Transfer case/rear differential problems
At 60,000 miles I am having to replace the transfer case and the rear differential. I am told that the bearings have worn out. The total cost of these repairs is over $3500. I am very dissapointed that the car would need such major work. American Honda has agreed to pay 75%, but it still means almost $700 out of my pocket, not to mention the headache.
Best Economy SUV
This is an excellent economy SUV with all the features the average person needs. Like any Honda you never have to turn on wrench. They will run forever. This was my 3rd Honda and never had one single repair with over 250,000 miles total.
New Owner of Used CRV
Recently bought a used EX in great condition and 68k miles. Runs like a champ and very easy to drive. The quality is so top rate - and maybe the previous owner took good care of the car - that it scarcely feels used. Now I know when people say that Honda builds good vehicles.
Happy as a Lark
Everybody complains about the power. Well the later year CR-Vs, you got what you asked for, and the MPG dropped right along with it. Now the gas prices are out of sight and the most fuel efficient SUV of its time now gets a lot less than the 25 MPG it got in 2000. I'll never get rid of my 2000. It goes anywhere that any SUV can go. Great in snow. Roomy. Great on gas, and looks good. What do you want?
I love my car!
Cutest car ever! It is the perfect size; big enough that I can see but not like I'm driving a bus. I highly recommend!
My new toy...
I bought my white 2000 V SE just before the new year, 12-31-03, for $13,100 (40,103 miles). I don't believe I could have done any better. Everything, from top to bottom, screams "HONDA QUALITY". Driving position, ride, and steering feel top notch. Gas mileage (~21/26) could be better.
Love my Cr-v
I loved my cr-v very much. Good on gas, reliability is a plus. I was surprised with the picnic table, thought that was thought of Honda including it. Only thing I didn't like about the cr-v is highway uphills driving. There is a loud noise when you drive 70 mph or more. I hate that it can't handle curves and mountains. Other than that, I love my cr-v. I will be buying a 2006 next time. Hopefully honda has improve the cr-v.
Best Car I've had
Yes. It's my Honda CRV.
Waranty woes
I recently purcahsed a low mileage 2000 CR-V. An ABS sensor failed just outside of the 3 year bumber to bumber warranty ( Canadian) . By just outside I mean 7 HOURS. Warranty expired on a Thursday at Midnight and the ABS sensor failed on the Friday morning at 7 AM. The Honda dealer adivised me i was out of luck and would not consider goodwill as this particular vehicle had not yet been serviced at the dealership. I only had owned it for 5 days. . I am appealing the decision to Honda Canada. Needless to say , I am not impressed or happy.!
2000 C-RV
Not one service repair in 2 years and 30,000 miles. Perfect for small children because the back seat sits up higher and they can see. Never use the picnic table and get teased about it quite a bit. Only thing to be aware of is that there is a lot of road noise in the vehicle. We looked at cute-utes from Toyota, Suzuki, and Kia. It was well worth the extra money to get a Honda.
Disappointment
This auto is a disappointment in view of the repair bills on a low mileage auto. It is not solid and has a noisy effect on the road. The gas cap sensitivity with "check engine" lights is infuriating. I will switch to another and better quality vehicle at the next trade. I have owned this car for 4.5 years purchased from dealer.
Great SUV
Purchased new in July of 2000. Put new tires on last week at 52000 mi. replaced wiper blades. That's it. Going to give to my 15 year old daughter to drive to school and her mother and I are going to buy a new one.
Great SUV
Great Car/SUV; not too big, not too small and it's fun to drive!
2000 CRV
Careful design makes it a delight to drive and own. Quality is top flight. Gas mileage could be better.
Great Car for the price
Great Car for the price
It is a Honda
I am really happy with my first generation crv. Mine is 2000 and it has 216k miles and runs like new...not a single problem. I will keep it until the wheels fall off.
