Update after a Year...

I have now owned my 2013 Civic EX sedan for about a year. I initially had issues with seat comfort due to the aggressively tilted headrest but have fixed that by modifying it somewhat. I must say the car has performed flawlessly for the year I have owned it. It delivers a quiet, solid-feeling drive each day to work. Honda knows how to build a solid, easy to drive car unlike any other manufacturer. The "connected" feel of the driving experience is something only Honda really does well in this price range.

Not perfect, but hoping for reliability

I bought this Honda for one reason and one reason only: reliability. So In one year I have manged to clock 28,000 miles and have done nothing to the car outside of normal maintenance, which is great. I have been able to achieve 50 mpg with careful, skilled driving on a one off, fluke of a drive. I can routinely obtain 42 mpg with respectable driving and 33-35 mpg with a heavy foot. The brakes are not the best as I have locked them up a few times without noticing the ABS pulse from the pedal. Also, there is a blind spot from the roof pillar between the windshield and left door that is very annoying on mountain roads. Altogether, a good car and I'm happy I bought it.

Updated review (Nov 4, 2019): This is a dependable car. It takes me to all the local places I need to visit: grocery stores, barber shop, community pool, concert halls and the downtown restaurants. It is super reliable. My past two years' expenses were standard upkeep related: gas, oil change, new tires, front end alignment new battery and new brake shoes. I am going to keep it for at least two to three years. Several locals already expressed interest in buying it. I know I will get something back to put towards my next car. The following was written in 2017: I am updating my review after over 4 years of ownership. One very annoying problem is fatigue in my hands; the steering wheel is hard. Steering and turning on trips longer than a couple hours are punishing on older people. Imagine if I have arthritis, how much pain I have to endure. Now my wife drives and likes it because of the fuel economy. She ( 5 ft 2 in) complains about the rear view through the back window. She refuses to look at the rear camera and is technologically challenged. After driving long trips my back started to get stiff. A lower back support may be the next item I should try. I also added a seat support to reduce butt sore from long trips. Maintenance cost has been higher than average at the dealership. (Nov 4, 2020) My kid now drives this car. He likes it. I mbought a different car.

I just leased a 2013 Honda Civic Coupe EX, and so far I'm loving it! Now, to be fair, I upgraded from a 2000 Ford Focus LX with manual everything, so being enthusiastic about a new car wasn't a very tall order. I probably would have been just as happy with a new Yugo if there still was such a thing. But overall, I love the body style and interior design of the Coupe EX. The dash is laid out very well and all the controls are within easy reach. The ONLY potential downside I see is the quality of the cloth seats...I'm just not sure how long that fabric is going to keep looking good. Handles very well, and is a nice smooth, quiet ride. Pretty good stereo system too with the 7 speakers.

'10 Jetta lease was up. I dislike the styling of the new Jettas so I went in for a '13 Accord Sport and left with a '13 Civic LX. Both great cars but I enjoyed the handling and overall feel of the Civic a bit more. I now prefer the Civic dashboard over a typical one (surprisingly). I also own a '12 Subaru Impreza which seems a lot zippier to 40mph but it's also not nearly as quite (loud CVT and road noise) which for a daily commute of 120 miles is very important. My daily commute broken down is 40 miles city and 80 miles highway. I average 37mpg not using ECO but I use cruise control often. Over 400 miles per tank. I get compliments from my co-workers for what it is...a nice compact car.
