Used 1996 Honda Civic del Sol Consumer Reviews
A Blast!!!
I've had this car since I bought it new. It has over 200,000 miles and is still going strong. Cockpit wraps itself around you...you feel one with the car. I've replaced the clutch, various parts of the exhaust system and wheel bearings. Not bad for 200,000 plus. This car truly is a blast to drive! Plenty of torque, enabling you to zip in and out of trouble with equal alacrity.
Fun Reliable Car
OVERALL I loved this car. I owned one for over seven years. I have driven in six different states and across the country into Canada. I have NEVER had a major issue with it. This would be a FANTASTIC second car. PROS: * This is a FUN car. * Nice engine, good pick-up. * Easy to park. * Decent handling even in icy weather. CONS: * Roof gets squeeky after awhile. * Limited space (although more than you think)
Sydney's Review
Compared to the new for 96 BMW Z3 and the Mazda Miata the Honda del Sol had more interior space and comfort for $5000 to $10000 less!So I bought it. It is my fourth Honda product since 1982.I have driven cross country for 10 hour stretches, but 3-4 hours best. Disappointments are the mileage [no better than 30 mpg] and the small disc brakes ... and yet, at 75K I still have 50% left, go figure.
Roadster re-born
I went 40+ years between "roadsters" & this is wayyyy better than the old English/Italian cars. A little hard to get into, but much more leg/head room than any modern convert I tried. Handles amazing; quick, but always feels like there should be 1 more gear. Unbelievably tight for 13 years & 160K miles. It rains a lot where I live so you better be sure the windows are up, but it doesn't leak when they are. Much less wind turbulence with top off & windows down than any convert I've ever been in. Can't wait for next summer!! My wife loves it despite low entry & she's >60 too.
Fun 2 seater yes, but reliable too? WOW!
I've always been fascinated with 2 seater cars. 1st car 84 Fiero=looked nice but ran like crap, 2nd car 86 MR2= reliable but cramped, 3rd car 89 Buick Riatta=nice, lots of gadgets like touch screen controls but all the gadgets broke and needed engine replaced! So in 1997 I bought a used 95 Del Sol SI. I fell in love. Being 6'3" it was the first 2 seater I truly fit into. And it has been the most reliable car Ive owned. Over 150k miles on the SAME CLUTCH! Now at 225k miles it still gets great gas mileage and drives straight and fast. Luckily no leaks or squeaks in the targa top (use HONDA spray lube!). BUY ONE!
