Used 1996 Honda Civic del Sol Consumer Reviews
Best value for a roadster
Great little car, my second, no major problems with either. Great little engine just pulls all the way to the incredibly high redline (8250) Fun to drive, easy to maintain. Moderate body flex, but can be remedied by re- enforcing the chasis. Targa top is great, seals need to be lubed about once every 2 months to prevent squeaking, but this is only a 5 minute job.
VTEC model
I picked up my del Sol VTEC a year or so ago and have loved every bit of it. I was lucky to find the top model with the DOHC 160 HP engine, and still get 30+ MPG highway and about the same in city. The acceleration is great, ride is smooth and driving with the targa top off is possibly the most fun next to a real convertible, it's a blast cruising around in, even with close to 180K miles! Aftermarket upgrade are easily and readily available for it still which is great. Overall, if you have the opportunity to find a del Sol and drive it, it would be well worth it at any age.
Car of the year!
This is a car that I would reccoment anyone have as long as it is the vtech and has some power with aftermarket parts. Featured in Fast and the Furious
Better than new at 13
This is a great car. I have driven the "heck" out of it (340,000 so far) and still get over 40 mpg highway. Have no complaints about its performance even though it's not the VTEC version. I'm actually glad I went with the Si. The trunk space is amazing and I have been able to carry things most people would never imagine a car this small could handle. I laugh at the commercials for new "economy" cars that brag 35 mpg. This "old" car beats all except some Hybrids and even those can't claim much better. Now the car is old, with a lot of miles on it, but I really can't justify trading it in on anything new. I'd be trading down!
High RPM
Just bought my 95 del so dohc v-tec. Can't stand the high revs on highway speed. Feels like it needs a 6th gear. Any ideas how I can adjust to lower rpm, through computer? Will tranny change help? Need better gas mileage like my standard 95 civic coupe. Going from close to 50 mpg down to 30 mpg on del so. Don't need the extra power. I drive about 250 miles a day, so the mileage does count. Just trying to increase mileage if I can.
