Got rid of my 8 year old Audi A4 after looking at a large potential engine repair. Looked at new Audi's, BMW's, Acura's, Toyota's, and Genesis. Liked the fit, finish, and quality of the interior of the Accord just as much as the luxury brands. Actually preferred the cockpit and control layout in the Accord compared to all of the other cars I looked at. I drove all of the variants of the Accord, from the 1.5T and Sport Manual to the 2.0T 10A. The power of the 2.0T is great, the 1.5T is fun in the manual and adequate with the CVT ... but I had to be honest about the kind of driving I do which is a mixture of city and highway driving with a fair bit of traffic thrown in. For that, the Hybrid made a lot of sense and cut my fuel costs in half compared to the Audi. The hybrid is quiet, smooth as silk, and unless you are pushing it hard is completely unobtrusive; the shift from electric to gas power is almost imperceptible. It really is an electric car that just happens to have a gasoline generator for power with a battery to smooth things out. It is a different driving experience to be sure with the pedal being quite linear and the engine revs being somewhat disconnected from the speed of the car. Despite it being a 'hybrid' which is usually not associated with performance, if you tromp on the pedal, it will go in a hurry particularly if you have Sport mode engaged. The overall performance of the hybrid is in between that of the 1.5T and the 2.0T. Unlike a gas car, in around-town driving situations, if you need a quick burst of power, the torque is available RIGHT NOW because of the battery / electric motor; low speed pick-up is better than a gas car since there is no need for the engine to down-shift or wait for revs to build ... I really like that part. Yes, if you are going up a long steep hill, the engine will get buzzy, but that's about the only time; in normal driving situations, the engine is barely noticeable. I'm seeing mid 40's MPG around town and 48-52 MPG in mostly highway driving (55-70MPH). If you go 75MPH+ mileage will suffer, but not that much. I've averaged a bit over 47MPG for the first 2K miles, so pretty much just as advertised. Actually really like the electronics and use Apple car play pretty much every day to anticipate the urban traffic in the Baltimore/DC metro area. The adaptive cruise control works great; lane keeping assist is a bit lazy and I would not count on it in areas with substantial curves, but for keeping the car in the lane of a fairly straight highway while you fiddle with the radio or deal with a momentary distraction it works just fine. Overall my wife an I love the car and are looking forward to a long an happy relationship with our new Accord. It's the same a the regular Accord, just quieter and with better gas mileage.

I test drove Toyota and Kia Hybrids and was intrigued by the fuel economy but the style was blah. The I drove a Honda Accord Hybrid 2018 Touring and just went "WOW!!!!". First it looks nice and sleek on the outside (with out the Hybrid badge, you'd never know it was a hybrid). When you get in, your sitting in technology. All of the info that can be displayed on the windshield so your eyes still stay on the road. The wireless cell phone charging, The NFC just let me tap my phone on the dash and it married up to my phone. Android auto gives me access to Maps, Waze, pandora, TuneIn Radio, etc. The ventilated seats are so nice to have in the blazing hot Florida sun.I can remote start the car to have it cool off before I get into it.It is extremely quiet when driving (just hear the outside woosh). The different doing modes are so convenient, like to merge into fast 5 o'clock highway traffic, clicking on Sport Mode gives me tons of speed (plants me back into the seat). The paddles on the steering wheels, once I got used to them, are amazing. It is used with the brake regeneration which recharges the battery surprisingly fast. Now I can calculate how to use them when approaching a stop. On my first 100+ mile cruise, I played it light slow acceleration , ac at 76 and a mix of highway and city driving. I got 51 mpg. Next weekend I went the same route in reverse, ac at LOW (which is pretty cold), using sport mode occasionally, and getting unto speed normally from a dead stop. I got 46 mpg. I went one step further and installed 3m Crystalline Tint (look for it on YouTube). The car is literally and figuratively cool.

Why five stars when not all of the areas above are five stars? Simply, it's the overall car I like so much ( so far, I have only owned and driven if a couple of days ). I drove the Camry, Fusion, and Optima hybrids. None felt as solid as the Accord, although I liked how the Optima drove. But the Accord drives even better IMHO. The CVT makes itself known on long uphill grades but is otherwise unobtrusive and works fine. It's plenty powerful - My ride home 65 miles from the dealer includes a long 6% uphill grade. The only potential comfort issue is getting in and out of the driver's seat - It's a little bit lower than the others and there is a bit of "drop" into the seat and pull up from it. The technology is comprehensive in the Touring ( top of line ) model I bought but from what I read good throughout the line. Touring has about everything you can imagine and lots you didn't that is useful or helpful The head up display is a favorite. The navigation is quick to accept entries and find what I am looking for. My Android phone hooked right up to Bluetooth. The Android and Apple apps for use in the car are both available. The drive is quiet and comfortable. You can use the paddle shifters to decelerate and get extra energy to the battery, especially useful on long downhills although the adaptive cruise control will brake to maintain speed and thus also store energy. The front seats are heated and ventilated, the rear heated. ( No heated steering wheel except in Canada, darnit. ) The automatic high beams work nicely, as I found on a dark highway drive home. I am guessing at some of the Value items as my ownership is short term for now. I am not filing in a mileage as too few miles driven so far to make a good estimate. Just driving home from the dealer, the first 15 miles in traffic and lights, averaged 49 MPG ( city ). UPDATE: Now over 14,000 miles and counting! Rating reduced to FOUR STARS. Why? 1) I am not getting the 47 MPG / 47 MPG rated mileage, although doing better now than when new. I know, "your mileage may vary". Started out averaging 40 - 41 MPG, now averaging 43 - 44 MPG per tank fill up although that's in "Eco Mode" ( which works fine in both daily driving and trips, no drawbacks ) and usually driving conservatively to hypermiling. 2) The electronics are proving a bit wonky. The infotainment system will shut down and eventually reset ( takes a few minutes ) while driving. This is very disturbing when navigating someplace strange. It happens more on trips than local driving and is averaging two to three times a month. The adaptive cruise control does NOT hold / limit speed on downhill sections like I originally thought. You have to "do it yourself" unless someone in front of you is going slowly and setting off the radar system to brake. The ( Garmin ) navigation system is poorly configured for route selection. It has sent me on some strange, longer, and less attractive roads for no apparent reason on trips. Locally, it selects routes, then, when I use local knowledge and go a different way, the estimated driving time goes down several minutes. Since I have it set for fastest time, why does it take me a slower route when it seems to know other routes are faster? ( Note - I have NOT set it for "shortest route". ) 3) The seat ventilation doesn't provide much volume or cooling. ( This was over the long, hot summer in Southern Nevada ). I had the dealership check it out. They reported it was working the same as other examples on the lot. Which IMHO doesn't mean strongly, means this car is weak in general, not broken or malfunctioning. This is IMHO the infamous "performing as designed" excuse common to most manufacturers when they don't get it right in the first place. All of this said, I still like this car. A lot. It's pretty comfortable, performs reasonably, and economical, although IMHO not as economical as it should be. I am going in to the dealer this morning to get the recall done for the rear view camera, which seems to me to be working just fine

Best value mid size sedan

Some serious research went into my ultimate decision to buy this car. My previous vehicles were mostly sports sedans (BMW 3, 5 and 6 series) interlaced with a couple of Acuras. After my last appointment for routine maintenance on my 3 series cost me nearly $1,000, I decided I was done with German cars. Furthermore, I was tired of losing a significant amount in depreciation on these BMWs after my typical 3 to 4 years of ownership. My purchase criteria this time was based on reliability, economy, resale value and fun to drive. I also wanted something more substantive than a basic compact car like a civic or corolla. I think the Accord hybrid provides the best combination of those characteristics. Furthermore, the interior has all the elements I consider as luxurious in the Touring trim that I purchased. As for fun to drive, this is definitely not a Prius. It has great low end torque and will accelerate very quickly, either from a stop or on the freeway ramp when I need the pick up (0 to 60 in 6.9 seconds is what I have read). I will never drive this in the ECO mode, but have a blast driving with an occasional heavy foot and still getting 40 mpg. I read in some reviews that the seats are too low and cause back pain. I am a senior that has a herniated disc and have dealt with back issues for the last 30 years. However, I don’t have any issues entering or exiting this vehicle and find the seating comfort to be just fine. The stereo system is fantastic. I also love the safety features that are all customizable to suit my driving style. I also love the brake regenerative paddle shifters that feel like the old days of downshifting to slow down in a manual shift car. Trunk space is huge. Still learning how to take full advantage of the Android Auto program. I do think Honda should have sold this car with a compact spare instead of the inflator kit that is provided. However, I will incur the expense and buy a spare and jack. I really think Honda has done an excellent job with this car and believe this is the best “value” in the mid size car segment.

Efficiency Meets Luxury

I traded in my 2016 Acura MDX SH-AWD w/Technology Package for the ‘18 Accord Hybrid Touring. This vehicle is an upgrade (yes, UPGRADE) from the MDX in nearly every way. It even has more legroom in the backseat than my ‘16 MDX!! I would put the interior up against any entry level luxury sedan on the market right now. It rides very smoothly and is extremely quiet. So far, I have about 3000 miles on it and I’m getting 47.1 mpg overall (mix of city and highway driving). Nothing about this car says “Hybrid” other than the badge on the car and the great fuel efficiency. It has the same dimensions as the gas only models, including trunk space. The only difference is the gas tank is about 2 gallons smaller, but with such high mpg, you still get greater range per tank and you spend a little less to fill up when you do need gas. At 212 total HP, the car is plenty quick and with Sport mode, there is more than enough get up and go needed to navigate most driving situations. The Honda Sensing features are quite nice, though it takes some getting used to if you’ve not had similar tech in other cars. The nice thing is that you can turning those features off if you’d like. Another function in he Touring model that I didn’t think I’d care much about but now really love is the heads up display. It makes more of a difference than you’d think having the digital speed and navigation directions in your line of sight while watching the road. Another thing about the Touring, in addition to the basic Honda Link features, you can sign up for the remote and security packages that allow you to find your car if stolen, and remote start/lock or unlock the car using your phone. I rated Reliability 5-stars though there is no way to truly gauge this on a brand new car. That mark was given based on Honda’s reputation for reliability and my personal previous experience with a Honda vehicle. I will report back if this changes. All in all, it’s a great car so far. I’m hoping to keep this one for 200K+ miles.

Accord Hybrid MPG not what stated

I purchased the Accord Hybrid EX in September 2018, as of the last month my MPG’s have been dropping dramatically . The window sticker says 47 mpg , for about the first month or I was getting 43-44 consistently . Lately it has been between 35-37 . I am not heavy in the gas pedal and I always drive in eco mode . I took the car back to the dealership to be tested , they called Honda tech and were informed the reason that the miles per gallon dropped so far is due to California’s gas blend and it will be far worse while winter blend is in use . Apparently it affects hybrid cars more. I was told when summer blend comes back I should expect the 43-44 again . Very disappointed with this car since the reason I purchased was for the MPG, and I read reviews of people getting over 50 , but that must not have been on California gas . If you are planning to drive in CA , know your MPG will be much lower than the 47 stated on the window sticker . While it is getting better mixed mileage I am getting less highway MPG as the 2014 Camry (non hybrid) I had previously.

Almost perfect

I bought a Honda Accord Touring Hybrid 2018. There are mostly likes and a few dislikes to explain. MY LIKES: My opinion is that it is a very nice looking car. The doors close with a solid sound. The interior materials are very nice and buttons are easy to use. The cruise control is excellent. BUT WHAT COULD MAKE THIS CAR GREAT: In order to reduce weight the designers did two things I don’t like. First, I paid for the top of the line touring model and expected it to be very quiet, but I was disappointed. On the highway you hear the road noise much louder than expected. They reduced weight by reducing sound proofing under the carpet or cabin generally. The second thing I don’t like is no spare tire. Again this was to reduce weight, but I would prefer a DONUT style one. Honda tries to appease owners by giving free three year road service, but I have that with my car insurance already. I would like to read a report on the ease and success of using the canister system. Third, I was disappointed in the driver one and two system. All it does is adjust the seat. The sales person thought it adjusted the mirrors (rear annd outside) and spent about twenty minutes trying to make it work and then went on line and found that the mirrors do not adjust with the driver. I was expecting the outside mirrors to adjust for the different drivers. So after the seat moves for the driver, then you have to adjust both outside mirrors and the rear mirror; this should be automatic. I just checked the Lexus Hybrid and the seat adjustment does automatically adjust the outside mirrors and the steering wheel does too. Another surprise was that only the driver’s seat goes up and down, forward and back. The passenger’s seat only goes forward and back, not up or down. Also, the seat height is set low and so the driver looks down on the passenger. Another odd thing is one of the operations of the "key fob". When walking up to the car you can push the open lock button and do it for a second time and it will lower all the windows and the sunroof; great idea for those who live in the south and southwest. But strangely the closing function does not do it. If the controls open the windows and sunroof then why not close all that; I admit this is an irritation because of my stupidity; I went inside a restaurant for lunch and a storm popped up and the rain poured into my open sunroof. Next, the four corners of the car have sensors for detecting objects. The rear sensors has a middle and side sensors that flashes as you get to close so you have 100% warning from side to side. However, the disappointment comes when you find out that the front only has side sensors and neglects the front center of the car. I thought there would be a sensor in the center front, similar to the wide coverage in the rear. Don't rely on the front sensors to detect objects in the center front. Let me again tell you another mistake of mine. I pulled into a dark parking garage and pulling forward and I ran into a 3-4 foot pole meant to protect the wall so I dented the front middle of my car. Next, In the side mirrors is a small, and I mean small, indicator if a car is on either side of your car (blind spot). That is a good thing, but my personal preference would be larger indicator of a car next to you. In the bright Florida sun and doing 70 mph it is not obvious too show the car next to you. The flashing should be twice or three times the size so you don’t have to focus your attention from looking forward. Also, it could show on the “heads up” and in the information center cars next to you. In other words, the more you know about vehicles around you the better. My final comment is a disappointment in the warranty of the hybrid battery. In ten states the warranty is 10 years and 150,000 miles but in most states Honda did not have confidence enough to do that and went with eight years and 100,000 miles. I would pay a couple of hundred dollars more to get the better warranty. SUMMARY: I really like the car. Yes, I would buy it again. I hope the future models IMPROVE the few things I have pointed out. Then it would be a GREAT CAR. FOLLOW UP: It has been seven months since I bought the car. I still think it is a very good car and do recommend its purchase. Again, the miles per gallon is 35-40; but never 47 as suggested. SECOND FOLLOW UP: Almost all of my driving is city. That means I have never gotten over 40 mpg. A month ago I went to Tampa and got 43 mpg. Don’t believe anyone that says they get 47 or above; the only way you could do that is to be a fanatic on coasting etc., but not normal driving. I believe in honesty and admitting when things are not correct, because then you can work to get it right. So why does Honda keep saying it gets 47. Finally, it could use a nice sounding beep when backing up or for those that don’t like that then an on / off switch; but I would like to warn people when I am backing up and may not see them.

Traded my Challenger. No Regrets

Jaila, 06/11/2018
2018 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
21 of 22 people found this review helpful

I purchased this vehicle because my commute to work puts me at over 70 miles per day. The 19 mpg I was getting from my 2014 Challenger was costing me too much. I bought this car to save on gas, but I actually feel a little guilty saying I like it better than my Challenger. When it comes to style, the Challenger has that old school muscle car appeal that I have always been a big fan of, but the Honda has a style of it's own. It's a modern, aerodynamic design that helps the car fuel efficiency numbers in the upper 40s, and depending on how and where you drive you can even experience numbers in the 50's. I usually get mileage around 49 mpg, but high speed highway miles are going to be a bit worse than that. I took a trip from MD to CO, and experienced mileage around 36mpg while traveling at an average speed around 75mph. That's still great, but not quite the 47+mpg you'll experience at lower speeds. Around town, I've experienced mileage for 20-30 minute trips around 54mpg, but usually 49 is about the best I get. The trip from Baltimore to Denver cost me a little over $100 in fuel costs total. Moving on to the interior, we'll start with the trunk. Trunk space is equivalent to that of the standard Accord due to the batteries being under the back seat. The back seats fold down from inside the trunk, which is a neat security feature. There is a switch inside the glove box to disable the trunk release that essentially turns your trunk into a secure mobile safe. The back seat is comfortable for a 6' tall adult, and there are A/C vents in the back of the center console for the rear passengers. The batteries under the back seat have a vent that needs to remain unrestricted to prevent the batteries from overheating. The Driver seat is power adjustable with two driver settings that go along with numbered key-fobs. The passenger seat adjusts manually, but both are comfortable for long trips. The aesthetics of the cabin are very functional. The faux-wood is very well made and fitted, and adds a touch of class to to the cabin. The unorthodox infotainment system takes a few seconds to get used to, but once you get over the styling you'll love it's futuristic, functional design. The Honda Sense is awesome, and both the advanced Cruise Control and the Lane Keep Assist functions work great. You'll love how the car decreases the stress of driving in traffic as it speeds up, slows, stops and go's pretty much on it's own. The engine and motor are more than adequate to get you going, and I get people off the line all the time with the cruise control enabled, without really even trying. All in all, it's a great car, and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

47 mpg is a joke

Our 2018 Camry Hybrid gets better gas mileage by far, and has had zero reliability issues. The Accord is supposedly rated at 47 mpg. After 3750 miles, my average is 36.9. In colder weather on an interstate highway trip last week, I got about 32mpg over 220 miles. My daily commute is 12 miles, about ten is 45-55 mph and the in town part is with well timed lights. If it's above 60 degrees, it will get well into the 40s for mpg, but the colder weather mileage is poorer than even the base gas version EPA rating. Reliability? After 4 weeks, the electronic control module failed completely. The car had to be towed ans it took them nine days to diagnosed, get the part, and fix it. The lumbar support has already failed too. Too bad; it's a nice car otherwise. The handling, performance, features and quiet are remarkable.

Forget the 1.5 Turbo models

The combined power of the hybrid system offers more horse power and torque than the 1.5 Turbo models and only adds about $1,500 to a given Accord trim level. The 'sport mode' is very responsive when needed and the normal mode consistency gives me about 45mpg in high traffic commuting. I've driven about 30,000 miles in 36 months and have no complaints about the powertrain. I have to check the dashboard to tell if the engine is running sometimes. If you need higher performance or live in a hilly area, the 2.0T might be a better option, but I can't think of a reason to go with the 1.5 turbo model. The $1,500 premium for the hybrid includs remote start which is great in the winter.

Makes more sense than Tesla 3

Sunny D, 11/04/2018
2018 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
11 of 11 people found this review helpful

I have a 30 mile/day commute, and bought this car after a lot of research into hybrids and plug in electric cars. Everyone in my neighborhood is getting a Tesla 3, which is a sexier car and more fun to drive. However, this car is half the price, much roomier, has a very nice interior, has a much more friendly dashboard layout, and has a range of 450+ miles (which only takes 5 minutes to "recharge"). My prior car was a 2016 Mazda 6 which was a bit more nimble and fun to drive, but the Honda is pretty close and gets much better mileage. The cabin is very quiet. I test drove the Insight, which was not quiet at all, and chose the Honda for this reason. This is my first hybrid car, and I have learned the hard way not to be too optimistic about the EPA mileage (which is a common issue with many hybrids). When I drove it in my usual style (not aggressive but usually above 70 mph on the highway) I only got about 38mpg. I am 50, but I really have to drive this like an old man to get 40-44 mpg. I still drive over 70 mph, but accelerate to it much slower. You really have to use the regenerative braking paddles a lot to slow down way in advance. When I look at other peoples comments, it seems that some drivers have no problem getting over 45 mpg while others seem to get numbers like mine. Wish there were a way to know if it is truly the driver and road conditions or whether there is some variation in the cars. I think the automaker and dealers should be a little more up front about this with their customers and explain the range of variability in mpg in the real world. Nevertheless, It is a very roomy sedan, very quiet, and gets over 40 mpg for me. Overall it is a great car for the price, and I am very very happy with it.

Everything about this car is great except for the MPG. I mainly do city driving and avg. 35 mpg after 1,100 miles. Sometimes I can work really hard to avg 45 mpg, but the work to rev slowly in rush hour city traffic is too much.

For the price has a lot of nice, upmarket features, such as a heads-up display, auto-wipers, auto-dimming headlights, heated rear seats, and ventilated front seats. The car drives nicely, and the think steering wheel is nice as well. Fuel economy is the reason for purchasing the car and is not bad, average about 37 mpg. The features I like best: 1) walk-away auto door locking, wish all cars had this, never have to worry about remembering to lock the car. 2) heads-up display 3) fuel economy 4) Bush button gear select 5) Wide range of adjustments for most of the features of the car 6) Memory seat recognizes each key fab. Things I don't like: 1) The glass has no UV protection, the hottest car I've ever had, very hard to cool 2) not enough insulation, can be noisy, especially the back seat, they should have installed dual pane glass in all windows, not just the front windows. 3) sounds like you're in a hatchback, so much noise from the truck area 4) no electrochromic outside rearview mirrors 5) heated steering wheel is a dealer installed option, should be from manufacture 6) ingress and egress is horrible, didn't think much about it when purchasing, after about 6 months, time for car to go 7) you can open sunroof and all windows with key fab, but can't close them. For some people, I guess the car is great, for me just not a car I would buy again, and after six months of owning, ready to trade it in for something else. I can't complain about reliability or gas mileage, it's just hard to get in and out of, hot and hard to cool in summer, and just noisy.

Update 11/7/2020: I still think this car is fantastic. My gas mileage has been in the 45-50mpg range. Honda finally pushed a software update which had some useful features. Most importantly it included an Email option which was missing. This was long overdue. On another issue, while I find the use of Android Auto very useful for maps and Internet searches, I actually prefer the Honda interface in making and receiving phone calls. The interface is much easier to use. I still wish the speedometer had a digital display. Lastly, this is the first car I've owned that tells me when it is time to change the oil. I am surprised how long I can go between oil changes. After 10 years of driving a Toyota Camry Hybrid, I decided to modernize to the 2018 Accord Hybrid. My primary reason was the wide array of safety features which are standard in the Accord. I have not been disappointed. The Accord is unbelievably quiet, gas mileage is exceptional, and the electronics are easy to configure and use. But instead of going on and on about how wonderful the Accord is, let me spend my time addressing a few issues. SAFETY FEATURES: Exactly what I was looking for. In some cases a little too much. I do like the rear cross traffic alert and the lane departure warnings but there is a feature where the car tries to keep you centered in the lane you are in. I used this driving on the interstate and found myself constantly fighting the car. The Accord actually tries to steer the car to where it thinks you should be. I didn't like the fight so I turned this off. Otherwise, the safety features are fantastic. DASH BOARD. My biggest complaint is the positioning of the dashboard in relation to the steering wheel. I like to drive with the steering wheel in its lowest position. The view of the dashboard is obstructed b the steering wheel. I am constantly adjusting to height of the steering wheel to see the Dashboard. ANDROID AUTO: This is a great feature. It allows the use of Google Maps for navigation (and other things). It uses data so keep that in mind. But in addition we ran into one big surprise. My wife and I were driving from Denver to Mt Rushmore, going through east central Wyoming. We evidently went out of our cell phone providers service area and our google maps went poof! We never even considered we would have this problem but now we know. Fortunately we had put our old Garmin GPS in the center console and quickly dug it out and plugged it in. Without it we would have been lost. Never considered printing maps. PADDLES: I had to get some additional training on using the paddles. They are not for shifting gears as found on most other cars. They are used for downshifting and regenerating the battery. This sounds contradictory but it is not. The paddles are used to slow down and not speed up. I was able to find some good information on the internet and I recommend you get a complete understanding of how to use these. My dealer rep did not really provide a good explanation. TEMPERATURE CONTROL: I think that Honda tries to get too technical with the temperature in the cabin. When I set the temperature to 72 degrees, I can be sweating or freezing. I constantly have to adjust the temperature control to stay comfortable. EXTERIOR BODY: I had the unfortunate experience to get a couple scratches on the car less than a month after we bought it. First, while riding on the interstate, a tire on a semi truck exploded and pieces went everywhere. A couple small pieces hit the car. Secondly, someone opened their car door into mine and put a 1 1/2 inch scratch on the drivers door. When looking at these I could see black metal or whatever it is under the paint which surprised me. I have had dents in cars before but I don't recall being able to see through to the underlying metal. It leaves me wondering about the quality and durability of the finish. Because these scratches were so noticeable I did go to a body shop and had them repaired. I'll keep the cost to myself.

Miles per gallon on the decline

Like Wendy who posted a review in November, I'm seeing the same decline in mileage. I purchased a 2018 Hybrid touring in June 2018. Upon initally driving the vehicle I would get on average 43-44 MPG on my daily 15 mile commute. Now on that same commute after 6 months, that mileage has gone to about 39-40 MPG. Same commute, same driver, same conditions, same driving habits. I'm now fearful that I'm going to continue to see a decline in the MPG's in another 6 months. I think Honda should consider looking into this or it might cost them future customers. This is the first Honda I have ever purchased having previously owned a Lexus hybrid that I was extremely pleased with. Everything else about this car has been great and really a great rival to my Lexus in terms of functionality, comfort, and styling. I do feel the safety in this car is better than my Lexus among some a few others features (like touch screen Nav.).

I had zeroed in on the 2.0Turbo, but my kids convinced me to get the hybrid. Boy, they were right. The car is zippy, silent and luxurious in the touring trim. I have put 3000 miles in about a month and have averaged close to 47 in combined driving. On a 240 mile highway trip, driving on eco mode at 75 mpg, it was close to 43. But in short 5-10 mile within city trips I get close to 52. I The infotainment does restart occasionally and I hope the dealer will be able to fix it when I take it in for the first service. Otherwise, all else looks good.

Update on the MPG: we're now at 16K miles and we consistently ran 38 MPG for over 2 years, then we had a software update in 01/2021 and a few months later the MPG went up considerably. Now it's about 43 MPG. Cannot really tell why the sudden change, and whether others have noticed it, but it's a welcome change. Previous review from us: This is Honda # 5. Three Accords LX, one Civic, and now an Accord Hybrid. This is the most stylish Honda ever made, its large, plenty of room inside, plenty of tech, quiet, and its runs with confidence. The engine sounds a bit stressed when you push it, but overall it just goes, and it keeps on going with good MPG. The hybrid drive makes perfect sense, it uses regenerative braking - meaning when you put the brakes on it charges the battery instead of throwing all that energy away in heat, and burn your brakes out. That energy is then used when you "step on the gas" again, makes sense? Yes, and it saves you a bundle in gas. The car looks awesome, and others notice it. Mileage is far below what it should be, it's advertised at 47 MPG and we're getting about 37 MPG in mostly short distance driving. The car is now 1 1/2 years old and we've not had any issues. We highly recommend the car.

Drives just like any gasoline only powered car. You don't feel any transition from electric to gas power. Very roomy, as I am 6 foot 6 inches and have plenty of room in the driver seat. However, I wish the passenger power front seat gave me another couple of inches in the front. As far as economy goes, my wife has a heavy foot but still manages to average 41 mpg, without using any of the economy increasing features. When I drive, I take advantage of regenerative braking (with the paddles), and try to keep the power meter in the first group (blue solid line), and I have managed between 46 mpg and 54 mpg with air conditioning on. The safety features (Honda Sensing) are nothing short of amazing. However, this is not an autonomous driving car, even though it will stay in lane and take curves at highway speed, never take your hands off the steering wheel. We find that the feedback in the steering wheel with LKAS on keeps you more alert when you drive. The traffic sign recognition feature is very handy, as the built in Garmin GPS system does not track speed limits as my discreet TomTom does. The heads up display is great, I will never buy another car without this feature. Shortcomings? The Touring trim driver seat memory does not adjust the outside mirrors (wish it did), and there is no power outside mirror folding (manual only). That is it for shortcomings. Great car, now we have to see how reliable the electronics and mechanics turn out to be. Because repairs will likely be costly, we took out a zero deductible 8 yr/120,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Well, 20,000 miles and no issues at all. Mileage is as high as 54 mpg (when I drive it, about 46mpg when my wife drives), and I find in the cold winter months it is about 10% lower. The built in Garmin navigation leaves a lot to be desired however. My discreet TomTom does a much better job with more direct routes and accurate time of arrival estimates. Of course, we can use any maps app with Apple Play. Uses zero gas when stopped at red lights, and still keeps the AC running. In the winter, heat is almost instantly available. The extra cost for the hybrid was well worth the cost, as the electric drive is silent and vibrationless. The only quirk is an occasional reving of the generator, which can occur at any speed. This lasts at most for 10 seconds or so. Overall, very happy with the car. Update: Three years and 34,000 trouble free miles, could not be happier with this car. We took a 620 mile vacation over the summer, and used only 12 gallons of gas. Do the math (50+ mpg). My only complaint is the low stature of the car, as I am 6 foot 6. But plenty of room for me once I get behind the wheel. Hybrids are the way to go - pure electric technology just not here yet. Update: After 4 years of ownership, no issues with the car. Still as fuel efficient as day one. I have noticed that on very cold winter days mileage drops to the low 40's. This is due to the gas engine running more often, even at standstill, to supply heat to the cabin. It is now 5 years and 56,000 miles. Last trip was 180 miles, and we averaged 48 mpg. No mechanical issues or repairs. Very pleased with the performance of this car. At 68,000 the air conditioning stopped working. Brought it to the dealer for repair, and was informed that the condenser had a leak, which was very common for this car. Honda had extended the warrenty for this part (we were never notified). There was no cost for the repair. Our last trip was 360 miles, got 49mpg.

I purchased this car last month, drives nicely the gas mileage on the first tank of gas was about 42 and has progressively been getting worse. The quiet car is no longer quiet, the fan noise from the engine can be very loud and can be heard inside the car, the service guy told me that this was normal ( I don't think so.) This morning driving into work my display for the navigation, radio, etc was frozen, so, non operational, had to lower the volume on the radio via the steering wheel, I am stuck with one radio station just like my old mustang. The low tire pressure light is on, I took it to America Tire for an air check and all the tires are fine so they reset the indicator, it light up again yesterday, this really worries me because I don't have a spare, I am not crawling under the car to repair a tire with the puncture repair kit they provide. Had I known this I would definitely not have bought this car. I have ordered a spare tire and jack. So bottom line is be very mindful that the quality is not there and the dealer support isn't either. 36.5 mpg is all you will get. We don't just drive downhill we have to go back up.

There's lot to like about this car, but one big disappointment - the MPG. I bought the car 7 months ago and was consistently getting about 43 MPG in town, 45 highway. I rarely go on the highway because my work is 4 miles from home. I was very happy with it. A few months later it started to get poorer and poorer mileage. Well, it has continued to deteriorate until now I am getting high 20's/low 30's in town. That's a hybrid??? My overall average is down to 36 MPG. The dealer is no help about why this has changed so much. NOT the mileage that Honda claims and I'm very upset about it. I have it set for Eco drive only, by the way. My 4 mile drive to work (lots of downhill) was always 56 MPG the first couple of months. Now it's about 35 MPG for the exact same drive, driving the exact same way. How could this be happening? UPDATE: It turns out that using air conditioning or heat dramatically affects the gas mileage, I found this out not from anything from Honda, but from a US government website. Now that it is spring and I am using neither heat nor A/C I am back to 43 MPG. What a difference! ANOTHER UPDATE: I am 4 years and about 30K miles into this car. Still really like everything about how it drives, its features, etc. MPG continues to be a disappointment, but I guess it's because I'm using it in the Boston area where I need to use heat in the winter and A/C in the summer. Overall average since I bought it is 39 MPG. In the spring (right now) when I use neither heat nor A/C I'm getting 40-50 regularly.

Updated Review: I've only been getting around 37MPG after owning the car for about 8 months. I'm not happy with that since I was supposed to get closer to the 47MPG sticker. I know people with a Prius that report getting more MPG than the sticker says. I was accepting of the 42mpg I originally got but now that I've dipped into the 30's and I'm a little annoyed. The engine noise is also more prominent that it was when I first purchased it. I feel like the engine is kicking in more often and sooner than it use to. The car is wonderful and all my passengers tell me how comfortable the ride is, but don't buy this car if the main purpose is MPG. First Review: It drives great and looks great. To quote my friend about the interior, “why would someone spend 2x as much on a Mercedes when you can now get a car that looks like this”. Drive quality is excellent. It drives very smooth and has good acceleration. The MPG I thought would be better but I don’t care too much. I tend to get between 42-45mpg on most drives and get the actual rated 47 on longer highway drives (traffic/no traffic). My only complaint is that I wish the backup camera was better. It might be me, but I often find it hard to judge exactly the space I have.

I like the car but I’m frustrated by the bad gas mileage. The car averages 33-35 mpg but has declined to 30 mpg with the colder weather. I took the car to the dealer, they test drove it and did get somewhat better mileage but nowhere close to the 47 mpg advertised. At that point they said they could not help and said I could contact Honda USA, which I did. I was told by Honda USA that they could not help but I was free to write a letter. Overall, this is upsetting! I traded in a 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid that routinely achieved 40 mpg. I wish I had purchased another Toyota! 1/29/20 update...mileage has decreased significantly (30mpg on 500 mile trip) now that’s its cold.

So I've owned my 2018 Accord Hybrid a little over 2 months now and have driven 3750 miles. The day I left the dealership with my complimentary full tank, I got an average of 48 MPG. That was the last time I received such MPG. the next 5 or so fillups averaged 37 MPG until today. Well, turns out Honda does not work well with AR#O. Approximately 10MPG difference. As far as the rest of the car is concerned, better than expected comfort, trunk is much larger than 2017 model. Technology is better than expected. I took Edmunds recommendation and got the EX. MSRP $29980. That comes with drivers side power and heated seat, sunroof, great intertainment screen, Gracious sitting room for driver and plenty of leg room in the back. Still getting use to the CVT transmission. Not to say it's bad, just different. Way to go Honda.

This is the quietest car I've ever driven; when you start it up, you have no idea it's on when judged by sound. Strong acceleration and the car's MPG got better as I drove it. I'm now at 3500 miles and am getting 48.5 MPG today, all at default mode; I've never used the eco or EV settings - no need to. Massive cargo space for a sedan and very luxurious. If I had to find a flaw, it would be the stereo system; speakers crackle when you want to blast it.

Just bought my 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring edition three weeks ago so still learning more about it. Great car and very happy so far. Seems smoother and more quiet than my 2014 model. Like the sound system and support for Android Auto - just wish Android Auto didn't require use of an old-fashion cable. Love the wireless phone charging - works great with my Samsung S9+ - even with the case on. Love the adaptive cruise control combined with the lane-keeping driver assist - have experimented on the highway and the car will pretty much drive itself using those two technologies. Heated rear seats is also a plus. Remote engine start is nice on hot days. The ability to update the native Honda navigation maps (for free) is nice - I just updated to the 2019 Garmin maps. I have noticed the Garmin-based navigation system is still nowhere as good as Google Maps. There should be a USB charging port for the rear seat - that is a glaring miss by Honda. Was on the phone with Honda Customer Service yesterday to report back they need to support more than 2000 contacts in their Bluetooth/syncing process which then enables hands-free calling and texting. If you have 5000+ contacts like most sales people, that's a showstopper issue for use of native Honda hands-free calling/texting. Meaning Android Auto is then the only solution and that requires an old-fashioned USB cable - so was disappointed to find out about that limitation as I thought I was getting away from cables... December 2020 and can report I still really like this car - just noticed I got an average of 47 MPG on my last tank (around town driving) which I think is amazing considering the size of the car. June of 2022 and can report we still really like this car. Mileage in all weather other than the cold winter months continues to average 45-47 around town. This has become more important as gas prices have risen so much. A bit less in the cold months - assume this is just based on battery efficiency as it is consistent with other hybrids I've owned. Ride is quiet and refined. Love the full-size trunk so no compromise for a hybrid as with previous models I've owned. This is my update after my four year anniversary with this car. We've been thrilled with this car as it hasn't required a single trip for maintenance aside from normal oil changes. Continue to enjoy the adaptive cruise control, lane assist, heated seats, very large trunk and outstanding gas mileage - we average about 44-45 MPG around town - slightly lower in very cold weather. Have been very happy with this car. Five year update - still very happy. Found a great deal on new Honda sport wheels so went ahead and swapped out the wheels at the same time putting on new tires. Expected mileage to go down of course. And indeed, mileage went from averaging 44-45 around town to 40 or so but much prefer the look so happy to make the mileage sacrifice which provides a new look after five years - a lot less than buying a new car! Year 6 update: Still very happy with this car - the only thing I updated this year is I tried using a Motorola device to enable wireless Android Auto - which did work fine. However over time I went back to using the USB cable as I found it helpful to keep my phone visible while fast-charging on the cable vs trickle/slow charging sitting in the wireless charging station. No maintenance issues yet on 6th year anniversary in Dec of 2023...

Bought this car and absolutely loved it. I have a 120 mile round trip commute in Chicago traffic. Much like a review that I read here, I was getting about 49mpg for the first couple of months. For the last 3 months I’m averaging right around 36mpg. Driving the same roads at the same speeds. ~13mpg makes a huge difference when you drive 600 miles per week. That’s less miles per gallon than the non-hybrid Accord. The worst thing is that I love the car. Comfortable, great ride, for a hybrid acceleration is outstanding, but you can get all of that with a regular Accord. Went to the dealer, they said everything looks fine. No issues. I emailed Honda and have not heard back... so unbelievably disappointing..

Almost the Perfect Car

Jonathan Paul Quick, 09/26/2018
2018 Honda Accord Hybrid 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

I've owned a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring sedan for the last two months. Mileage is currently at 2500 miles. Fuel efficiency is running consistently between 42 and 44 mpg. In all meaningful ways, the Accord is a top performer. Handling, acceleration and braking are first-rate, delivered with minimal NVH. Build quality is exceptional - no uneven gaps or persistent squeaks and rattles are to be found here. The car is basically silent, thanks in part to noise reduction technology. However, the suspension is a little too firm from my point of view. Automatic climate controls also seem a little flaky - nearly always defaulting to recirculate regardless of outside air temperature. Honda's vehicle safety systems for lane keeping, collision avoidance and blindspot monitoring improve safety without being too intrusive. The vehicle backup cam works well, although the picture resolution leaves a bit to be desired. Available Active Cruise Control works predictably on the highway without taking a significant toll on hybrid fuel economy. The vehicle infotainment system is one of the best designed that I have seen - controls are intuitive, menus are responsive, and infotainment features are stable. Audiophiles should have few complaints with sound quality from the outstanding audio system. The cockpit is well designed for passengers, but I have found the drivers seat leaves much to be desired. The drivers seat sits very low in the vehicle, which places the knees above the hips and creates unwanted stress on the back. The extra large and mostly unnecessary side bolsters coupled with inadequate seat padding make the driver seat an inhospitable place to be on long drives. Adjusting the seat angle and raising the seat height has mostly solved my back pain issue, but at the cost of reducing leg room. Overall this is a great vehicle that I would strongly recommend to prospective sedan buyers. However, would be buyers should take a very thorough test drive to understand if the front driver seat position works for daily driving.

I’ve been so impressed with the mpg on eco mode- consistently 48 to 52mpg. The design is slick both inside and outside; a lot of latest technologies- Honda Sensing, HUD, pretty much everything as positively reviewed by many auto journalists.

(keep in mind that listed mileage is probably made with 100% gasoline and we all use 10% ethanol which has 4% less energy. At 50 mpg this is 2 mpg less than with real gasoline) with 70 mph freeway driving, i get 43 to 47 mpg. with 55 mpg local road driving, i get 45-47 mpg. BUT WITH CITY DRIVING, I CONSISTANTLY GET ABOUT 37 MPG. this is far from the 47 mpg that one is supposed to get.

Accord Hybrid-best car I’ve owned!

We bought the Accord Hybrid for the safety and assisted driving features. Driving on a freeway in congested traffic is easy now! The Honda Hybrid pretty much drives itself, and makes stop and go highway traffic a breeze! We also drove our old Honda Accord 300,000 miles without a problem, and sold it for a good amount too! Can’t beat ‘em!

I have now had my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring since July and have approximately 3700 miles on it now. The mileage I am getting is a consistent 45 - 48 MPG and I have hit as high as 58 mpg. The car handles great, smooth ride and no interior road noise. Sound system is very good and the safety features are excellent. The interior has plenty of head and leg room and storage is bountiful for a hybrid vehicle. As a previous Camry hybrid owner for 11 years naturally I compared the new Camry to the Accord. I found the Accord interior provided a higher quality appearance, interior design was better, while the exterior appearance has a European Sporty yet Sophisticated look while the Camry has a pure sports car look without the amenities of the Accord. I would recommend the 2018 Accord Hybrid in the touring model if you want an affordable luxury vehicle that gets great gas mileage.

Beware The Bugs

I have owned my Honda Touring for a almost a month, and was very surprised to find out two things. 1. the audio / navigation system has rebooted itself without warning on 4 occasions now, it's like having Windows 95 running it. 2. This is UNBELIEVABLE to me in this technology age - there is no recording of audio / navigation system failures, You read it correctly the dealer told me there is NO logging of issues with audio / navigation system, so they have NO way to find the issue. It could be software, it could be a short in the usb connections. Also, as some reviewers have pointed out, the seating is a little short and I am only 5'8", so on long drives you can find yourself getting uncomfortable. But wait there's more - BUYER BEWARE - this car does NOT have a spare tire, to save weight and money, they only provide the small compressor with tire repair spray to fix a small tread puncture, if you get side wall damage you are out of luck. Last one that surprised me, the audio can only retain 18 pre-sets, if you have satellite radio you will want more than that, and since this is a computer chip, it should be able to store a lot more than 18, why the limit? Overall, I still love the car, however, if they can't find / fix the bug I will push to have it swapped for a new one under the lemon law in my state.

I really like the car but the only way it will get the advertised mpg of 47 city and 47 hiway is if it is all downhill with a strong tailwind. Even with the econ turned on and driving like a grandma, 41 is tops. Disappointed in the need to falsely claim a significantly high mpg that achievable.

The only other hybrid we have owned is a 2011 Prius. That car was loud, slow, cramped, and was the opposite of fun to drive. This car is spacious, luxurious, quiet, and a joy to drive. Handling is actually good. Back seats fold down with trunk access. So much tech. I do wish it had a heated steering wheel, 360 camera, and wireless Apple car play. For the money, it’s a steal. Update, MPGs are lower than expected. Never got over 40+ MPGs, got 35 on my worst, 38.5 on my best. Does great around town, not good on highway. update, now averaging 41mpg overall the tire monitors are not great on this car, and OEM battery replaced at 2 years. otherwise, awesome car. efficient, quick, and resale is now more than i paid new after almost 4 years, still love the car. 42 MPGs for touring. no problems (other than a new battery needed). another quality Honda product. after more than 6 years, still best car ever. efficient, reliable, comfortable, quick. love it 🥰

Excellent sedan with a smooth, quiet ride and very good handling characteristics. Hybrid drivetrain does not take away from overall performance and acceleration when needed. However a heavy foot will reduce average gas mileage. New design is attractive and sporty. Interior room is generous and comfortable. The EX L is the option/trim sweet spot.

I own both a 2017 Accord EX-L hybrid that I drive and a 2018 Accord EX hybrid that my wife drives. The two cars make an interesting comparison between the redesigned Accord and the older generation one. Both use the same basic hybrid technology - the Atkinson 2-cycle engine design - and both claim to get 47 or 48 mpg. However, I've experienced widely different results with these two hybrids. My 2017 gets as much as 53 mpg in the summer months and 42-45 in winter months. The 2018 I purchased in March gets only about 42-45 in the summer months. I haven't yet tested it in a cold winter. So, why so much difference? My wife tends to lead-foot her accelerations, so that accounts for some loss of mpg. I tested it across a full tank with my gentler acceleration and started off with 49 mpg on a long highway trip, but saw it drop to about 45 after several stops and cold starts on the same tank of gas. Overall, the 2017 drives more like a boxy, older sedan and the 2018 feels more sporty and more like a driver's car. The acceleration is the same for both on paper, and I can't tell much difference in torque from a dead stop with and without sport mode. Both have more horsepower than the gas engine version, so you won't feel like you're driving a Prius with one of these. So, I can't explain the 5 mpg or more difference in these two models. Others have complained about lower than expected mpg in Accord hybrids for both 2017 and 2018/2019, but I can say with certainty that my 2017 gets outstanding mileage throughout the year. For the size and luxury of the EX-L, you are getting the same or better mileage as a golf cart-like Prius (I've also had a Prius, so I can relate to driving a low-power hybrid). The Accord redesign is fantastic. The EX has every amenity you really need in a car - sunroof, satellite radio, power seats, heated seats, auto headlights, multifunction display. Just no CD player. The 2018 also reduced the size of the gas tank from 15.8 to 12.8 gallons, so cruising range went down from 700 miles per tank to about 500. The improved battery placement in 2018 also greatly expanded trunk room and re-introduced the fold-down rear seat. The lack of fold-down and loss of trunk space is the number one negative of the 2017 model. The Accord hybrid is the hidden treasure among Accord models. For only $1500 more, you will save 30-50% on gas costs per year. The sticker price estimate is about $800 annually compared to $1200 for a standard gas Accord. If you can stretch your budget to at least the Accord EX Hybrid, I believe you will be very satisfied from a cost value/luxury perspective. The EX-L is nice too, if you can spend $2500 more for leather and better stereo, mirror, and memory seats.

This is a follow up to the review I placed over a year ago. My biggest complaint I had was with the gas mileage, I wasn't getting anywhere near the 47mpg advertised. However, I am now averaging around 45mpg. I am pleased with that. A new complaint I have might not seem like a big deal to some, but there isn't a light in the glove box. As I said in my previous review, Honda cut a lot of corners with this car, I feel like it is a great riding, comfortable and reliable car, Honda just needs to improve on some of the little things, such as the quality of their stock speakers and adding a glove box light.

The best car that I have driven or owned!

I loved the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring but the 2018 version of the Honda Accord Hybrid Touring trim is beyond fantastic! Finally Hybrid owners can enjoy a full sized trunk with the 2018 Accord Hybrid. I love the safety features, and sensors. I miss the passenger side real time blind spot camera but the mounted sensor and flashing yellow indicator is more than ample replacement. I like the "Break Hold" which allows you to take your foot off of the break pedal when stopped. The "heads up display" which projects data like current speed limit, compass, and next turn during the navigation process onto the wind shield. I love the wireless charging PAD, Apple Car Play, and Android Auto (I have an Galaxy S9 Plus and an iPhone 8 Plus) interface. I also love the way the seat automatically moves backwards to ease getting out of the car then returns to the programmed when you get in for the next drive. I the Touring has seat coolers in addition to the seat warmers. I'm sure I am leaving features but this is by far the nicest feature-packed car that I have ever driven or owned!

Other than getting in/out of the car becauce of its low stance which I already knew from owning other Accord, 2018 accord hybrid is great car. 1 week after I bought the car i had appointment at the dealer.only ro find put that I had non repairable flat and had to call tow truck to take car to dealer. this car DOES NOT come with spare tire so I had to pay approx $240 to buy new tire. Dealer would not and said could not help me in any way since I had flat I had no choice. After this incident I try almost everyone at the dealer to find the solutions they keep refer me to orhers. Their part dept told me it would be almost $340 for me to purchase donut spare which is ridiculous. So BE AWARE IF YOU BUY WANT TO BUY ACCORD HYBRID WHICH DOES NOT COME WITH SPARE TIRE. THANKS THIS IS AFTER 7 MONTHS OF OWNING. I have driven over 12000 miles and am happy with my car. Longest drive was 1100 mile round trip and over mostly over the freeway. I wanted to see how it would be mostly over the freeway driving. I do have a lead foot but I still average over 35mpg which is still very good. I am saving good $$ on gas. I still tried with 4 Honda dealers. But REALLY NO HELP ON SPARE TIRES. THIS IS ONLY THING MAKES ME ANGRY OVER THE CAR AND MFG. SINCE THEY RELOCATED THE BATTERY TRUNK SPACE FOT BIGGER BUT NOW I HAVE TO CARRY SPARE IN THE TRUNK WHICH IS FULL SIZE IT TAKES ALMOST 1/3OF THE SPACE.

Great car except for the reason purchased...47 MPG Hwy/City - This car will not perform the high MPG rating unless it's by accident. Owned the car since August and put nearly a 1,000 miles per week on it (mostly highway). Who wouldn't want 47+MPG right? Reality...43 MPG if lucky! To get anything close to what was promised by Honda, one has to be soooooooo actively engaged that it is distracting and perhaps dangerous to you and other drivers. I've driven multiple autos on this route and it is the only one that doesn't meet or exceed its MPG promises. One of them, another hybrid, rated at 31 hwy...gets nearly 35 MPG in it. Honda is grossly overstating/deceptively marketing this car's capabilities in the MPG category.

I’ve been a Honda loyalist since 1982. I was waiting for my Accord Hybrid since reading the first reviews of it in 2017. Finally got the 2018 in model and color I wanted in November 2018. Splurged for the touring model since I expect this to be my “retirement car.” Beautiful car! And I was thrilled to be driving a larger sedan that would get mid 40’s in mpg! Until I wasn’t! Over 3000 miles in I get a consistent 37, driving only in Econ mode. I work hard at milking most mileage out of it and get 38. Very disappointed in Honda for being so deceptive! Mileage was one of the main reasons I was eager to get this car. I’ve taken to dealer 3 times for them to check it over. No difference. Not 47... 37!!! And the car will not run for more than a mile in EV mode so can’t boost it that way! If I could swap this car out tomorrow I would! And remember, I’ve been with Honda for 36 years. If you honestly don’t care about mileage you can buy this car. But if that’s true, skip hybrid and get the regular Accord and save the money. Or maybe get a Camry... Update 2/20/20... By accelerating very slowly (have to get used to driving like an old person) I've been able to get mpg 40ish over course of a tankful. One other note - there was no disclosure that this car DOES NOT HAVE A SPARE TIRE and there is no way to add one without giving up the trunk! Better have a good towing service like AAA.

I’ve read a few reviews about the mpg not matching what the EPA sticker says. My dealer told me I’ll start to get that mileage after the first 100-200 miles when the car learns how you drive. I’m at 1k miles and have hit as high as 62mpg on a 10 miles trip and the lowest is in the upper 30’s but I’m averaging about 48 mpg thus far, so has exceeded my expectations. This car has extremely comfortable seats with a lot of support- I’m 6’5” and I have plenty of room, especially in the now extended back seat. The A/C blows cold even with the 110 degree heat we have here in Scottsdale AZ. The drive is actually quite sporty and the tires hug the road nicely. I got the EX-L and added the parking sensors. I bought using the Costco auto buying program and with the sensors, I saved over $5k out the door getting it for $28.7k. I had the 2015 accord gas model so the new safety and tech features are very welcome and provide more eyes on the road. This is a great family sedan for those who want to save money on gas. About to take it to Vegas for a “surprise” bday party and we have decided to take this car over our 2018 Volvo XC90 based on comfort and all the stuff we can bring. I do have a led foot but drive “safely” with a great radar detector and I still beat the EPA estimates. Everyone drives differently and I don’t have to drive like my Mom to get the higher mpg, just let the car work at its best with its battery. Update: after driving this car for 4 years, my mpg is typically 50/50 mpg, although I have got some city trips in the 70/80’s. The car still drives smooth, seats are just as comfortable as my wife’s volvo and the quality of materials both in/outside are holding up very well. I’m hopeful Honda will make an EV Accord-this w/b the only I would trade it in

live in South Florida which is very flat. I drive like an old man on I-95 setting the cruise control at 68mph. I accelerate very slow and have never gotten over 40mpg on any full tank. Sorry but the 47mpg on the sticker is a complete LIE!!!! Don’t buy the hybrid if you think you will get 47mpg!!! You won’t! Not worth the extra money for the hybrid! I have had the car now for several years. The MPG keeps going down. I’m averaging about 35 MPG now. I just put brand new tires on it about three months ago. Thinking new tires would help. They didn’t! Do not buy this car if you think you will get great gas mileage, you won’t!
