Used 2018 GMC Terrain Consumer Reviews
Diesel engine (Iszusu) is crap
This diesel engine is crap. Beware. You might be traveling on the Interstate at 70mph when all of a sudden, with no reason or warning, this GMC will throttle you down to 45mph. So, get ready to use your hazards as you rush to the slow lane and hope your GMC Terrain TurboDiesel makes it to the next exit. Good thing this is a company car and I can get my company to NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH GM AGAIN. Do not buy this car as the diesel engine is crap and the Dealers have no idea how to deal with it or the weird messages, combined with the check engine light, that show up ion the dash, seemingly translated from Czech.

let down terrain
Very overpriced. Last year satellite radio standard on all SLE models and above, as were power up and down driver seat. Only back-up camera is standard all other safety equipment is optional, infotainment package (995.00), Driver convenience package (1375.00), Driver alert package-safety (980.00). Gm is also charging an extra 395.00 for any other color other than white. This makes this suv approximately $4000.00 more expensive than compared with the same relative equipment, i.e, Volkswagen Tiguan. Honda CRV. Very disappointing, especially since they moved production to Mexico that must have saved production costs. Gm considers GMC the premium brand, but may inspection and test drive disproved that, was ready to buy but too many let downs, very disappointed.

Incredible value and luxury at this price point
Really, an ideal SUV for anyone looking for compact fuel economy (40mpg) and high tech features.

Not very dependable
Numerous exhaust / DEF issues. Just put in the 3rd transmission. Turbo went out when shop test drove it after Trans was replaced. Parts are almost impossible to acquire. When it runs it is awesome. Currently at 42 days in the shop for this issue. It has left me stranded 3 times in 1 year. DEF sensors get replaced every 9 months. The last one GM warranted the part but no labor. Averages 36 mpg. It’s a great car when it runs. Still not very dependable. Current transmission has been in 1 year. It does slip sometimes but GM states nothing wrong. I’m pretty sure it will go out again before warranty is up. UPDATE: The diesel engine is the least reliable power plant offered. Transmission and turbo failures plague the diesel drivetrain. Lots of emissions issues as well. Buy the gasser and not the diesel.
