Rethink the 8sp trans.
18' GMC has the best looks, ride is good, stability in wind is amazing. I love the comfort and they made the cabin very quiet, road noise is not noticed. That said, the 8spd trans clunks, bangs 2nd to 3rd to 4th. Under throttle I hear no issues, city driving idling along, say 10 15mph, roll on and off the throttle and there are serious bangs going on, up and down. Its reminds me of a old drive line ready to spit u joints at any time, its not in the rear end(ring n pinion lash), seems to be in the tranny. I have parked the truck, sits for +-2hrs, level, on start up the rear tires jerk the truck hard, defiantly gets your attention. Does this about once every 10 15 start ups. Took to the dealer and of course they say there is nothing wrong. Do your homework, look on social media about the 8spd trans, they are a problem. Buyer beware. Such a shame, love the truck otherwise.

Don’t buy. You have been warned!!!
This truck has an absolutely terrible transmission that clunks and bumps everywhere you go and the dealer wants nothing to do with it, acting like it’s not part of the warranty. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

Complete disappointment
Purchased 2018 GMC Sierra all terrain in July 2018 due to overall styling, handling and I once had complete faith in GM. Approx. A month after purchase the transmission started the hard shifts and I took it in for service and all was well for a couple more months. Had my 10000 mile service completed in December and had the transmission reprogrammed and fluids flushed. All seemed to be functioning satisfactorily. 1/15/2019 I was backing out of a driveway and I lost all guages, power steering, heated seats, transmission and about every other vital system all while blocking both Lanes of traffic. A positive note these trucks are quite easy to push with one person pushing but you'll need someone stronger than my ten year old to steer if the power steering is out. Got the truck towed to dealer, left overnight since it was after hours and when the technician got to it codes were present but they claim it started and operated as it should. called GM to see what they would do as I don't feel this truck is safe or reliable enough to be in the road or to be used as my work truck pulling trailers and will absolutely not let one of my employees drive it knowing what happened the last time I drove it and they were unwilling to do anything at all. We purchased two of these vehicles at the same time and the other one has been great so far but at $50k a shot and a50/50 chance of getting a good one vs a bad one and GM unwilling to stand behind their product I would recommend spending your money else where.

Worst truck I have ever owned
Driving Gm for years, this truck is extremely disappointing. Transmission issues from day one and they still can not fix this awful 8 speed. Lifters on the right bank were replaced after one bent at 6k miles. This truck is nothing short of junk. If you want proof look at the resale values or just go into a Facebook forum an ask a few questions. Cant wait to get rid of this junk. 4x4 grinds, transmission bangs and clangs, and rear end failures are all things that I have dealt with. No trucks are perfect but this is not a good option. The think that I find most frustrating is that GM will not stand behind their warranty, they deem these issues as "normal" when clearly any truck guy/girl knows that its an issue. Please do your homework and a quick google search on the generation 5 GM truck 2014- current you have been warned.

SLT Premium with 6.L 8 Speed Auto
I love this truck. Had the first gen 2014 with a SLE crew cab 4.3 Liter. Although I loved the truck I couldn't help that I settled on the small v6 (that they have since replaced for 2019 moving forward). Went and test drove the new 6.2 with the 8 speed trans and I fell in love! Love my truck. Had to bring it in for warranty already for bad AC compressors... but all paid for and treated right with a new loaner for the day. I'll look to keep this truck for many many years. Especially now with the new gen....boo. I can't stand the 2019s. This gen was a good one and I'm glad I got the one I wanted before they went another direction.

Disappointed Chevy Man ?
2018 Denali 6.2L Transmission clunks, lag shifts, hard shifts up and down. 14 k would not go in gear, codes pop up. Dealer replaced battery 🤣 15k appears low idle miss. No codes dealer had no answers. Poor file mileage 13 - 16 mpg. Dash averages state 19 , no answers from dealer. To Be Continued! Transmission continues to shift poorly 23 k now Trans still problem at 32 K , fuel mileage poor, as of 2023 gets worse radio not functioning as intended, electrical issues, and only 42k miles, out of full coverage warranty.. Very disappointing 7/12/23 Truck only get worse only 44k miles out of full warranty, infotainment center screen goes out, GM does nothing cost me a $1200 , lost clarity of back up camera, dealer says it’s bad now $300 more, still no clarity can’t even see out at night. Dealer finally changed out torque converter, still have cold slip in first to second in morning. Electric issues now fuel gauge only reads 3/4 tank, bumper sensor flashing while driving. Truck is a lemon and GM will do nothing!! 1/14/2024 Still same problems. I’ve contacted GM for help with very little received. Fixing to be out of power train warranty as well. Sorry I didn’t push the lemon law when I could!! 7/16/24 Transmission is crap 💩 , Contacted GENERAL MOTORS got a complete run around, asked them to please extend the warranty for fear of serious transmission failures. Told me kiss off. Very disappointed with GM . Now I understand that a class action law suit is happening, Hope GM LOOSES ITS butt. Chip O’B

2018 denali, 5.3 , 8 speed transmission
purchased it in 2020 brand new, going on 14 k miles, so far, I love this truck, yes, I noticed every now and than that the transmission jerks a bit between 2 and 3rd gear, sometimes is noticeable, sometimes it is not, but other than that, I am very happy with my truck, love the fuel efficiency, i can get up to 22 mpg on highway , as compared to 15 with my 2018 tundra, smooth ride, lots of comfort, very quiet , plenty of power

2018 GMC Denali 6.2
Traded in 2015 Silverado 6.2 4x4 because 8 speed transmission clunking for a 2018 GMC Denali 6.2 ultimum. First issue, sunroof driver's side drain hose not connected. Water inside driver's rear tail light. Now my truck has 18,000. Loud chirping noise from engine. Service technician removed all serpentine belts. Started truck still chirping, engine has mechanical issues. Mechanic and I both notice excessive play in water pump bearing/pulley. If it wasn't for it internal chirping don't know how long before the water pump would have gone out. At, 18,000 miles I beginning to wonder if buying this Denali made with inferior Mexico parts was a wise decision. Was given a rental car. Too many issues so far not including what recalls I may receive in the mail.

Shifts at low speeds like an 18 wheeler
I’ve taken my 2018 GMC Sierra more times to the dealer in this first year than I did my Ford F-150 Lariat that I owned for 13 years. The vehicle shifts abruptly at low speeds. Was told by dealer that it was the lesser quality of gasoline I was using. Well I have been fueling with 93% octane since then but it stills chugs along at low speeds. At high speeds it rides smooth and quietly but it is not shifting gears. The dealer says there is nothing wrong with the truck. But I dont like they way it chugs salons around the neighborhood when running errands.

After 11k Miles the AFM Lifters had to be replaced
All was good with the truck until 11k miles. 1.5 mi run to run errands and the engine tried to stall in the middle of traffic. 11k miles. Dealer towed it in and found the AFM special lifters failed and all had to be replaced. A KNOWN issue on GMC engines with AFM. Not happy with GM who continues to sell defective features and engines.

1.5 yrs, 15k miles - 18' is very good, 19'?
*Disclaimer - I am car snob and admit it, my only vice in life. Having been a truck owner for years (Tundra, Ram Limited) as well as an owner of a few high priced European (Audi, BMW, MB and Rover) brands, as I have gotten older, I just expect more (read: better) and the GMC Denali, for the most part, has delivered. I traded in a 16" RR Sport HSE when I bought the Denali as I needed a cargo hauler - ok, a comfy fat-ass chushy hauler, but a truck none the less. Having owned other trucks in the past, I always loved the look of the GMC so off I went. The 18' Denali is the Ultimate version (6.2L, 22" tires, completely loaded) and so far, has been just great. Seating, view, controls, performance are spectacular. This engine is strong and surprisingly, gas milage is other worldly (for a truck this size with this engine) as I average 20+ mpg (measured by hand, not computer) on the highway and usually run 75-80mph. This truck easily seats 5 comfortably and back seat space is enormous - as you would expect, plenty of cup holders, USB/plug connectors, storage, etc.. What don't I like? The touchscreen for entertainment is small - this dash is the size of a kitchen pantry and they could only go with an 8" screen? Also, single pane moonroof? The Ram clearly kicks GMC's butt in this area. The Bose sound system is fine, Apple/Android apps work great, heat/vent controls are intuitive and overall good, quiet, interior. Only other gripe, the suspension is not my favorite. While the truck handles remarkable well at lower speeds (under 40mph or in around the city), it can get a little "floaty" at times, especially when riding over expansion seems at higher speeds. Last note: I was in for a routine oil change and looked at the all "new" 19' what in the world did GMC do? The interior seats looked/felt cheap and the screen.. really, I mean really, put a bigger screen in there for old guys like me who don't want to squint :). Net/net, this a very good truck.

traded my 2017 GMC due to transmission problems for a 2018 GMC same style and model it 1,000 miles on it and headed to the shop for transmission problems same problems as the 2017 I work in an automotive factory that makes parts for GM when your buying a 59,000 dollar truck you want a good reliable one maybe I should try ford or dodge they stand behind their product.

Truck won’t start less than 2 years old
I have a 2018 Denali 1500 less than 2 years old. GM wants their customers to pay out of pocket for manufacturing issues at 42000. My truck won’t even start and they won’t fix it.
If you test drive it you’ll buy it. Period.
6.2 accelerates like sports car pinning you to the seat. Very quiet cab. Amazing side quit ride. It is still a pick up. Hard shifting at times and not the best at handling. But smoothest pick up that I’ve been in. Cool dash and components not confusing easy to learn

Outstanding Truck
I purchased mine from the loaner fleet. It had about 4000 miles on it. My wife uses it every day to go to work and run errands. I drive it when we go places together. The truck is quick and responsive with a nice engine pitch. Handling is outstanding. Headlights are far better than the 2015 HD that I own. The only thing I wish it had was a better gps. I'm glad that I purchased this truck.

A Tank without breaking the bank!
Ten thousand mile review, I've driving this thing all over the place. It gets excellent gas milage and hauls with no issues. I was skeptical but now strongly believe the v6 engines of today are more then enough to do the job. I have vinyl seats and flooring, have not dealt with stains. Wipe everything up. No issues with bluetooth, sound system is great. Would definitely recommend and buy again. Only nag or complaint would be the engine is little bouncy at idle. Engine has idled like this since new.

Loved my first so much I bought another!
I raised my children farming trees, hunting and maintaining property - though it’s not my profession. I treated my truck right but it is definitely a sturdy and reliable vehicle. I gave the first one to my second son and went through the truck thoroughly after 7 years the brakes didn’t even need changing - the guy said I still had 30% - that’s after 7 years of hauling tractors and pontoon boats! They are expensive as hell - but I love gmc trucks - I do believe you get what you pay for - I love my 2018 - it is a big boy Cadillac fer sher!

Love My Truck
This is my second GMC Sierra. Traded my 2014 Sierra SLT for my new 2018 GMC Denali. I only have 985 miles on my new truck , and no doubt, I will enjoy my new Denali as much or more than I did my 2014 SLT. We use the truck for towing our pontoon boat, and about locally. We also use our truck for travel, from upstate NY, to Charlotte NC area, down to Miami and back and totally enjoy our GMC for its comfort, ease of driving and reliability.

gmc
• What I like from the GMC and not from the Chevy is that the gmc in more luxurious inside even if is not to off road, I will rather still have a GMC then a Chevy. The Chevy Silverado is more of a working truck. But If you are not using the truck for work, I will rather have a GMC.

Don't buy complete waste of money and overall junk
Bought with 30000 miles on it and has been nothing but problems especially the transmission and dealers give you lip service like nothing is wrong to avoid the warranty. Im hate how gmc is treating people with these issues with this particular vehicle and shows the professionalism within this company. Complete joke

Dash
All the dashes are busting across in the middle. No recall. Putting 30 to 40 thousand in a new vehicle and u hate getting in it. That's pretty bad. Everyone I know that has a gmc or chevy has the same issue. We will be tradeing for a Toyota. Would keep gmc truck if they stood behind the quality and covered the price to have this fixed. Loved everything else about it. The dash makes it look like junk. To buy a New dash around1200. Was told there is no support and it will bust again. That price was not including having the dash put in.

Returned it
I was sold the truck and told that it had adaptive cruise control. After 3 days of trying to figure it out, I took it to the dealer. After 20 minutes of investigation, it was cuscovered that there was no adaptive cruise control. In fact GM does not put it in any of their pickups.I got my old truck back. I fail to understand why GM always seems to be a step behind in giving customers what they want. Inexpensive Toyota’s and Honda’s have safety and driver assist options on their cheapest cars, and GM can’t put it in a $60,000.00 pickup.

Truckin with Denali
The GM Finance interest rate for my truck was 4.5-5 % even with excellent credit. This high rate of interest however was offset by the rebates that were provided. Ask for the "out the door" price so that there will be no risks to increase the cost of the truck. Should you have a trade in do not inform the dealer until you have received a document that lists the "out the door" price. Also be sure to check the Blue Book value of your trade in. The finance department had attempted to sell me an extended warranty. These warranties are very overpriced but worth it to me as I was able to price negoiate. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali has additional cargo options and a tail gate with advanced functions. These features are not worth the additional $ 6,000 price tag. I have owned 4 pickups in my lifetime. GMC has outdone themselves with the 2018 1500 Sierra Denali package !! It has everything you would ever want in a luxury truck and rides like a luxury car. It is stylish, yet practical. I plan to drive the wheels off this baby !!

Denali or De Notty
Purchased the 2018 Sierra Denali Crew Cab last year (2018) thinking we were getting the Top of the Line model. We love how the truck handles on the open road. The gas mileage wasn't even a deal breaker. We also love most of the bells and whistles the truck has. BUT, ...... let me tell you what your Top of the Line truck should also have had included for a $50,000 plus price tag .....a separate Climate Control for those in the backseat, ...Factory Tinted Windows,... And!!! A bell and/or whistle that notifies you you that the Tailgate is down while you're driving!!!! Lucky for us, our luggage was heavy enough to stay put in the bed of the truck while we were traveling to California. I see your newer model added the extra little "step" to help you get up in the truck bed. 👏👏

Headlights
Headlights are not bright enough I have to drive with the fog lights on because headlights aren't bright enough also they don't shine down the road far enough or lights up the sides of the road. They need to do a recall to replace the bulbs with brighter ones or replace the whole light assembly. I won't buy another one with these headlights.

poor resale value
I have traded every year for the last 5 years for less than $14000 this year I go to trade the best trade value I get is 18000 to 21000 difference all my trucks when I trade has around 32000 miles in a year. I keep my truck super clean even have fiber glass painted bed topper on them, all have been white frost tri coat. with leather interior. I had dealer in Collinsville IL. has their 2019 denalis mark off the sticker $7770 still wants $18565 difference never in years see a truck lose it value very disappointed.

Too early to tell how it will last and perform. But my first impression is very favorable. The truck seems extremely solid, good condition and well built. Rides fantastic and is very quiet for a truck. Now to see how the gas mileage is. Time will tell

NO TRANNY NO ENGINE
Bought my 2018 gmc sierra crew cab new. so when i retire in 2022 i would have a good truck. I drove it 184 kms per day to work. I retired jan/22. In sept/22 my tranny broke. Because i had 168000 kms i was over my kms for coverage. Well if the kms weren't there my warranty was good til july /23. well pretty pisted. But gm paid for half the bill, which was $3300.00 .it was better then nothing. Well on nov/22, my engine code was po 324 and po 300 which ment my engine had push rods bent and faulty lifters and rockers. Well i was by myself. Total job cost me $6617.34. sent gm an e-mail. No response. Not plsed at all. happy retirement. Not happy camper

Failed lifter
2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2 Cylinder 5 lifter got stuck. This is a non DoD lifter btw. Don't have a clue of why a non DOD lifter would get stuck? This lifter should always be active. Damage cam and lifter bore, to a longer story short. This is my 2nd Rebuild on this engine. It's really pathetic the GM is not doing much about This! My recommendations are stay away from purchasing unless you plan to have the lifers replaced with LS7 lifters and deleting the DOD system and have it removed from the PCM. !!! I must say the obd port kits sold online that claims to disabled it... DON'T WORK!!!
