I drove an Audi S5, BMW m340i and hesitantly - I decided to go with the G70. Having had it for a week now, I am in awe of everything from the build quality to performance. What started as a decision solely based on cost savings has turned into an affection for the brand. And having switched from a Tesla model 3, I am blown away by this vehicle’s performance. Its an absolute machine. Downfalls include the partly digital cluster, though you get used to it quickly. I think they could clean up the interior by getting rid of most of the chrome, but we’re splitting hairs at this point. I love the G70 and arguably will be a fan for life. Not to make sure they keep their promise on the service side and hopefully, this amazing warranty holds true too. Time will tell but I’m in love.

I took a test drive on the highway and then around a few city turns, then looked again at the features on the window sticker and the drive-out price and asked my sales person where to sign so I could drive it home asap. The G70 got my attention back in 2020 but at the time we opted for the Accord 2.0, which is no slouch, because of price and practicality as the grocery getter. This time, for our 2nd car, the G70 with advanced package and RWD sat in the sweet spot. The exterior looks even better after the refresh as does the dash. This machine is beautiful in and out. I also had to make sure my golf bag fit in the smallish trunk and it did. I drove MB and Audi between '06 and '20 and while I loved them both, the price/performance ratio on this G70 can't be beat.

This car has exceeds my expectations on so many levels. It’s power from the twin turbo awd v6 is a pleasure to drive. Extremely agile, yet luxurious. Fit & finish are very high quality. Looks are subjective, however this car has so many nice body lines. Add in the covered mainline (take note bmw/Mercedes’ Benz /Audi) plus the best warranty it’s a home run.

Love the car; customer experience, not so much

I’ve had my 2021 G70 for a month now and I love the way it drives, looks, feels, and sounds. This is a Prestige with every bell and whistle available. The interior is amazing: I just sink in and enjoy the drive, even if it’s just to the store and back. But getting this car in my garage was a torturous process of awful local dealership experiences that evoked third-rate used car lots rather than a luxury brand (I ended up traveling 200 miles away to get this car). I went in for my first service today (locally) and the experience was just as bad. Genesis/Hyundai: train your people! You will never be a competitive luxury brand when every customer experience is a joke. Up your game. Don’t make me regret that I bought this car. The 5 stars is for the car ONLY. Customer experience is 1-star.

Bought 2.0T AWD to replace muscle commuter

Riding in a friend's GV80 with Highway Driving Assist immediately convinced me to look at Genesis. I seriously do not like long drives and traffic so thought I'd replace an optioned out 2018 392 Challenger with something that could help make long trips and lines of traffic bearable. My initial concern was that I'd miss the 392's acceleration so I test drove both a 3.3T and a 2.0T, but to be honest, I didn't feel there was a huge "street legal" difference in performance between those two Genesis engines. In full disclosure, I also own an 1100 rwhp Camaro, so my yardstick pushed the 2.0T and 3.3T's performance well to the left of not simply the 392, but definitely that of the Camaro. Public streets being what they are, especially with rush hour traffic, I couldn't justify the extra $9k for a 3.3T AWD. Give me that Highway Driving Assist to deal with long trips, an AWD powertrain to deal with poor weather conditions, and the best factory sound system. Those 3 items can be found with the smaller engine, but I will say, the Lexicon sound system is not as good as the Harmon Kardon's found in any of the BMW/Dodge/Mercedes/RAM vehicles. And that's a shame, so one star off. I will say, in support of the 4 stars, that every day I drive the G70, I like it more and more. I was briefly considering a WRX, but the Genesis definitely feels more substantial, better built, comes with the best tech this side of Mercedes, and has more efficient powertrain. I do wish the 2.0T models had some of the features the 3.3T has, like HUD, buttonless trunk opener, digital key and...well, that's about it, and those aren't deal breakers for a car that does 12 miles (30 minutes) per day. This is a great 3 series type car, and that doesn't even consider the price point, so yes, great car!

2022 2.0T Advanced AWD. Aesthetically beautiful inside and out. Base engine has plenty of pep for me, with a nice purr. A drivers car so you’re riding low in the seat, which adds to the fun. Takes corners like a dream. Driving assist for long stretches of highway driving makes for a more pleasant experience. Trunk is small given spare tire and battery placement (fits a golf bag diagonally). Nice and tight overall with a firm ride but not harsh. Gets lots of looks!

BMW to G70 - No Regrets, but Room for Improvement

I thought my BMW 330is was quick off the line and zippy enough to get me into trouble - but after test-driving the 2022 3.3L Genesis G70 Sport Prestige, I KNEW this car was fast enough to get me into trouble! Stunning sport-mode acceleration and a grip on the road as good or better than its sports sedan contemporaries made it easy to trade the Beemer in for this car. Really cool looking - especially in Havana Red. My BMW was good looking, but it never turned any heads. The G70, however, gets looks and questions - the most common: "What IS this?" G70 Sport Prestige PROS: Rocket ship acceleration; superb sports sedan handling but cushy in selectable comfort-mode; comfortable front seats; lots of cool technology; gets lots of attention (careful, that includes from the cops); massive Brembo brakes; smart cruise control with decent auto-pilot steering (not quite as good as Tesla); excellent climate control. CONS: Mediocre fuel economy; small fuel tank (short range); tight back seat; lacks some advanced features like automatic parking/unparking; driver profiles not stored in key fob like my BMW (a pain with a car shared with my short wife); someone's idea of "stereo" is a single main audio speaker in the dash. Excellent sound quality, but everything balanced to the center-front instead of left-to-right (can be "sort-of" adjusted with fader control to overcome this); trunk space is fair. That said, the G70 offers great bang-for-the buck high-end luxury and performance. Compared with BMW, MBZ, Acura, Infinity and Audi, I have no regrets spending my money on the Genesis.

Well balanced and solid car. Smooth gliding about town and rip roaring fun on the highway. It can do it all. The heated steering wheel and seats are welcome in the cold. Sure footed AWD. Head turner yet buttoned down and well mannered. On par with German offerings yet the tech is pleasantly intuitive and few inputs are required to get what you want. Bank vault solid build quality and the 365HP and AWD get it going any speed you want in seconds. If you had any reservations about buying a luxury brand Hyundai, give this a drive and you’ll be the first one in your neighborhood with the nicest car no-one has seen before.

Great car, but good luck with dealer maintenance!!

Despite the extravagant promises of concierge service, complementary maintenance, and bumper-to-bumper warranty, dealer support is almost none-existent. Service Dept at the dealer I bought my G70 from became non-responsive, and the one I have to use is a 2-hour drive each way. "Complementary" routine maintenance is a 2-3 month wait. And the "Concierge Service" they brag on is "geographically limited;" i.e., you pretty much have to live next to the dealership. Because they totally separated from Hyundai, there's really no dealer network to rely on. Love the car - better than a C-Class, if you ask me - but buy a Genesis, and you are on your own.

Vehicle itself is Beyond Expectations until 25000

Flawless vehicle. Unbelievable ride and quality finish. Don’t buy this car based on its price. It’s barely $3500 less than similarly equipped Audi A4. Absolutely no complaints. It exceeds my expectations of what a sport sedan should be in every way. The only downside is that you will be buying this car from a Hyundai dealership. So, expect the salesman to treat you as if you are buying a $15,000 accent with poor credit. If you can get over that, then you’ll be very satisfied with the car itself. 8/2022 Update: Again, great car, but the service department at Hyundai refuses to look into a problem with alignment. I had them fix it twice and paid for it, but the alignment was still the same. They told me on the third try that I should replace The tires before they try again. Instead, I went to a private mechanic in Roswell Georgia called five brothers, and they fixed the alignment to perfection in about half an hour. Until Genesis gets its own dealerships and service departments, I do not recommend buying this car. 11/4/22 Update: Engine misfiring at 25,000 miles - the engine started shaking at idle and power would get cut off to the engine. By 27,000 miles, this became a common occurrence. Yes, the car is still under warranty but you need the time to take it to the dealership and then hope that they will actually fix the problem. I lost faith that a car this new could have engine problems. I traded it in for a 22 Camry V6. After owning between 12 to 15 different cars, this is the first time I have ever had an engine failure, let alone at such low mileage.

I am breaking this review down in two parts; car and dealership experience. The car is great, appears solid and competes with Lexus, BMW, Audi, etc. biggest complaint is the Infotainment system is directly from an everyday Hyundai. Not a bad thing in a 20k car, but not a great thing in a 50k car. Genesis is trying super hard to be a stand alone brand like Lexus is to Toyota. They’ll never achieve that while selling and servicing through Hyundai dealers. Worst buying experiences of my life which has left a really bad taste in my mouth for what otherwise should be a great car. Buying a premium brand and premium car should come with a premium dealership experience. Look elsewhere if you want all three. Update: I traded in as couldn’t handle Genesis Consumer Affairs…the dealers totally wear the pants. I’ve tried working with 5 different Hyundai dealers. You want to make an appointment or get a call back, suggest you just drop in and do in person. Don’t let the selling dealer sell you on loaner cars either. Those are like finding gold in a silver mine. Nice car, but you’re taking a complete gamble should you need manufacturer support, warranty work or service.

From Excitement to Regret: My Journey with the G70

Keith Rogers, 10/02/2023
2022 Genesis G70 2.0T 4dr Sedan AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)
12 of 15 people found this review helpful

I purchased the 2022 Genesis G70 2.0T AWD Prestige model in November 2021, straight off the truck. My decision was based on months of research, and I was so certain about my choice that I didn't even feel the need to test drive it. However, my initial excitement soon turned into regret regarding the 2022 G70. From the very beginning, I encountered issues with the brand. It started with a subpar pre-delivery inspection and detail of the car. The person responsible for removing the vinyl shipping wrappers did a poor job, leaving light "zebra-stripes" all over the paint. Additionally, one of the wheels had sustained damage during shipping. It took weeks of persistent effort to address these problems, which were eventually resolved months later when I switched to a different dealer for servicing after my original dealer stopped selling and servicing Genesis vehicles. Unfortunately, the problems continued to mount over the course of a year and a half. The G70 exhibited peculiar electronic glitches, such as proximity sensors going off randomly, even when nothing was nearby to trigger them. The passenger-side power mirror frequently failed to fold in/out when locking and unlocking the car. The infotainment system would occasionally black out, necessitating a hard reset to restore functionality. Fit and finish issues also arose, including loose trim pieces on the roof, paint chipping around the edges of the rear bumper, bubbling in the adaptive cruise control sensor plate, rattling in the headliner, and complete failure of the dampening struts for the rear trunk lid (which I had to replace TWICE). The leather used for the seating surfaces turned out to be of poor quality. After just a year, the bolstering on both front seats appeared wrinkled and worn, while my wife's 2022 Mazda3 Carbon Edition still had seats that looked brand new. The driver's seat even began to bubble. After enduring these problems for a year and a half, I had finally had enough and decided to trade in the G70 for a 2023 BMW 430i xDrive Gran Coupe with the M Sport package. It was unquestionably a superior car in many aspects, including quality, fit and finish, and the overall dealership experience. Considering my experience with the Genesis G70, I cannot recommend either the car or the brand to anyone. The quality issues I faced, coupled with my customer service experience (which I should note is not necessarily the fault of the dealers, but rather Hyundai for not providing the necessary resources to enable dealers to represent the Genesis brand as a true tier-1 luxury competitor), make it difficult to endorse Genesis at this time. Perhaps in the future, Genesis will address the quality and dealership experience needed to compete effectively with established luxury brands like Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes. However, that transformation is likely to take years and won't happen overnight.

I bought a 2022 Genesis G70 with a 3.3 engine and the Sport package. While I have only owned the car for about 72 hours. I am loving it so far. Interestingly the gas mileage has been surprisingly good, around 22 highway/city combined. My 2019 VW GTI was only slightly better than that. It is a rocket-ship and handles like a slot car. This is the best under $50k car on the road.

My 2021 G70 2.0T AWD Experience

Gene, 07/19/2021
2021 Genesis G70 2.0T 4dr Sedan AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

I've had my G70 for about 1200 KMs (approximately 1000 miles) - 3 weeks. Here are the highlights the car feels solid and taut, handles very well and although you feel every imperfection in the road it is never harsh. The interior is a study for both functionality and design. There are so many features and design details. Everything is driver oriented, accessible and the materials are excellent. The technology is excellent, works well and can be easily turned on/off with physical buttons (thank you Genesis!). The overall luxury sports sedan experience is excellent and you combine that with a price that is more than competitive with the likes of Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, etc. and you can see why this vehicle makes so much sense. Any cons? Of course no vehicle is perfect so here are mine. As you probably know by now this vehicle is small, therefore if you regularly shuttle more than 1 person around I would make sure you are ok with the tight dimensions (same with the trunk space). Also fuel economy is not great if you do mostly city driving like I do (I average about 20 mpg in the city with the AWD model). On a long distance highway trip a few weeks ago I got 36 MPG after a two hour drive. Finally I noticed a small rattle coming from the touchscreen display on hot days which I confirmed creaks when touched - this should be improved. I strongly recommend you check out the G70!

WORTH THE MONEY

This is my second Genesis sedan. First was a base G80 AWD and this a G70 2.0 AWD Elite. I love my G70 for the value quotient. Drives sporty and fells like a sport sedan with more than adequate power for everyday use. Solid brakes and real good steering wheel road feel. Brakes are more than adequate and confidence inspiring. Sport mode really brings things up to a different level of excitement. However, comfort mode is just perfect for daily use. Have not met a corner yet that I couldn’t master with my G70 2..0T. Hits the corners hard and comes out looking for more. Adequate trunk and rear seat room if you think it through. Great stereo and the interior layout is spot on intuitive. Seats are comfy and have lots of adjustments. They hold you in place quite well. Interior Materials look fine to this observer and love the way they look and feel. Could use a heated steering wheel but at the price it was well worth the money anyway. Wish it had a remote start on the key fob rather than on my phone but the car is such a good value it is insignificant imo. Ride at 75+ is quiet and confidence inspiring. If you don’t need the badge status you’ll find the G70 to be a great purchase with gobs of warranty thrown into the mix.

I've had plenty of cars in 45 years of driving, and the G70 is by far my favorite. It manages to equal or out-do the germans at almost everything for significantly less and since the badge doesn't carry quite the weight of BMW, Audi, or Mercedes, the value proposition is even more pronounced if you're looking at used or CPO options. Hardcore enthusiasts will point to the 3.3L Turbo as the one to get, but I have to argue that the 2.0L Turbo is a real winner. It has more than enough power and torque for pretty much anyone who's not going to take it on a track or street race it. Plenty of power to get you in trouble with the law if you don't watch it, and better fuel economy, plus a lower price. Available in RWD and FWD, I went for the AWD option. AWD has advantages that everyone understands in winter weather, but has definite plusses in warm dry climates as well when it comes to stability and the ability to put power down to all four wheels. The AWD system in the G70 is heavily rear wheel biased, especially in Sport mode. The 2021 in Elite trim gives you pretty much all the safety and driver assist functions you could need in a daily driven sport sedan. It lacks things like a 360º surround camera, blind spot cameras, heated steering wheel and ventilated seats, but those features can be found at higher trim levels. Personally, I can live without them. The interior is elegant, comfortable, and functional. If you're looking for an affordable luxury sports sedan, do yourself a favor and check it out. Maintenance costs will be far lower on the Genesis than any of the Germans and you'll get more bang for your buck.

Unless you are a Nascar driver, the 2.0 4-cylinder turbo is an outstanding match. This engine is the boss and it's performance is just amazing. Why spend another 8 to 10 grand for the 3.0 engine, seriously. I'm floored by the performance, available technology, comfort ride, quiet interior and quality craftsmanship, The ride comfort and steering feel is the best. This car plays two roles for me. #1 Comfortable luxury ride and sound. It will spoil you! #2 Sportscar drive when I get a bit rambunctious. Goodbye some Mercedes at the light along with others. LOL. The warranty and valet service is bar none, the best. The fit and finish is just top notch! Here's a secret I'll share with you. Find a new g70 with less than 8k miles or so. Mine was the Prestigue with a MSRP sticker of 45k, yet I found it listed at the Genesis dealer for only 36k and 5k miles!!!!!! I saved NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS OFF THE LIST!!!! and the car is new with a full warranty. I nO DEALER MARK=UP, NO DEALER "PROTECTION PACKAGE". I just paid the 1k dealer fee. Did everything on line, never set foot in the dealership! Brought the car to me for a test drive, took it back, I signed the paperwork on=line and they delivered to me the next day!

2023 G70 - Not what I'd hoped for

I have a 2023 G70 with only 4000 mi, that I bought new last year. It already has quality issues (2 medium and 1 minor) which is frustrating when you're used to Lexus quality. What I'm completely disappointed in is the customer service and lack of white glove treatment that I get at Lexus. I went with the Genesis over a Lexus because of the price point and awesome looks of the G70 and now I'm regretting that decision. This will be my last Genesis... going back to Lexus asap. Advice: If you want the best quality and top notch customer service go with a Lexus. The price difference isn't worth it. If you don't care as much about quality then I'd go with one of the German cars.

Not the Same as older models

We had a 2013 Genesis that we kept for 10 years, were ready to purchase another one. Still a great car, but decided against it because the back seat in the newer models (G70) is so small, and the luxury seemed minimal. It was like driving a fast compact car, with limited features. To get something comparable to what we had before, we would've had to purchase the G90. The appeal to us was the "affordable luxury", Genesis no longer represents that. We purchased a Toyota Highlander Platinum instead.

Don't Believe The Hype!

I'm a former BMW and Audi owner and read other reviews thinking I would get a much better car for less money. WRONG! I've owned this car for a month now and I've already contacted the dealership to see if they'd buy it back. Not because it's malfunctioning. It's just NOT a good car. Maybe... I mean maaaayyyybeee... if you were upgrading from a Hyundai or Kia or if this was the absolute top of your budget could I see buying one. But honestly, I think a honda civic sport touring with better tires would be an equally compelling option that would save you $8K-$10K. I'll start with the few things about it I find redeeming. 1. It is in fact peppy, but at significant cost of fuel economy. 2. The exterior is well designed, but how much time do you spending riding on the outside of the car? 3. The seats are decently comfortable, although I've not driven it more than 100 miles at one time. Now for the bad... 1. Again the fuel economy. It's horrid. Maybe 25 combined on premium fuel if I don't go punch it. But what fun is that since fun to drive was the reason to buy it. My BMW X7 doesn't do much worse. 2. Highway driving assist makes the care feel insecure in its handling. When activated, it bounces back and forth so much that you feel like you are about to lose control of the car. It's worse in the rain. MUCH worse. 3. Those "soft touch" surfaces on the center console and door are anything but. While driving my knee generally rests against the center console, but after about 30 minutes it starts to hurt because the surface material is so firm. Genesis covers it in a synthetic leather type material (I suspect vinyl) to make it seem "soft" and on a quick touch it might seem that way. But after a few minutes, you realize it's not. 4. The WIRED Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a bigger annoyance than you might think. Generally the wire ends up getting wrapped around the gear shifter or lodged between my cup and the cupholder. 5. The "auto adjust" head lights reset to off every time you turn off the car. So when you turn it back on, you have to remember to re-activate them on the stalk. 6. No HUD unless you spring for the $55K plus 3.3T Prestige trim. At that price, you could spend just a little more for an Audi A5 Prestige or BMW 3/4 Series with Msport package. 7. No ambient lighting. Period. Not available at all. 8. Trunk is extremely small. A couple of duffel backs and that's it. Certainly you aren't making a Costco run in this thing. 9. Unlocking the back doors is a pain. You can't just walk up to the rear door with the fab in your pocket and pull on the door handle. You either have to take out the fab and unlock from there. Or you have to go to the front door handle and hit it twice to unlock it. 10. And what about that leg room in the back seat... I mean it's cramped. My 9 year old who's 4' 5" even has trouble back there. 11. Probably one of the biggest shocks was that after owning it a month and putting not quite 1000 miles on it, I'm already received a notification that I need to schedule maintenance. When I go to schedule the "concierge" maintenance because it's "included" right?! Wrong, the dealer I purchased from doesn't offer it because of "low inventory". Nor would they even offer me a hyundai. Best they could do was a shuttle. Do yourself a favor and if you can afford luxury. Look elsewhere. If the G70 is the top of your budget, save yourself some money and go with a fully loaded Civic.

I came from a 2018 Q60 RS 400. That car was awesome but this one is so much better. I have more room in it. More tech and nicer amenities. It is just as fast as the Q. Many say this G70 has limited space in the back seats and trunk but the Q had far less, besides it is only me most of the time so it is not a problem. The fuel mileage is about the same. This G70 is rear wheel drive as the Q was all wheel drive. Handling is near the same. Both cars are the same length even though this is a 4 door. Don't get me wrong I loved the Q60 but I think I like this much better. Now the biggest difference is that the Q60 was red and this one is white. I got a lot more comments with the Q60. But most don't want to race me in the G70. Again people don't know the power this G70 has. We'll so far I love the car .

You are behind the wheel of car and you look ahead at your tachometer and what do you see its 2/3/ Yes some design genius decided that the rpm circle should be about 2/3 of a circle and the MPH circle is a compete circle with a awkward box in between pushing into broken circle. I do not get it, never ever have seen this on any car ever made and yet here it is in all its glory! Looks like you want to believe some circut is out behind , but no this is what it is? lol/ Simply cant buy a car with such a design flaw that if right in front of you ever single time you drive

I really liked this vehicle. When the threat of recession calms down and interest rates become reasonable. Beautiful vehicle. Reasonably priced. Customer satisfaction reviews positive. The G70 will have my primary consideration.

This is the first brand new car I have ever bought and it was money well spent. I got the red exterior with brown leather interior G70 Elite. Absolutely gorgeous car and pretty quick really. Not necessarily quick off the line because it doesn't hit its power band until the turno spools up but once it does she gets up and goes. Overall awesome car and very glad I bought it.
