Ripped Off!

We bought our Windstar as an upgrade from a Honda Accord, only because that's all that we could get financed for, unfortunately! From day one, the "door ajar" arlam constantly goes off and the dome lights don't turn off. No mechanic can seem to figure out how to fix the door ajar problem. We've had a "clunk" sound coming from the front end since day one as well, we can't find the problem. The AC cuts out all the time, our brakes squeel even when brand new....We paid a little over $9200 for this vehicle and will never buy another Ford again! This is the worst vehicle I've ever owned!

UNRELIABLE

If I had only known. We thought we were getting a deal purchasing this in '00 with only 20K mi. for $11K...since then we have spent more than we would have to purchase new! Transmission 2 times; once at 30K and now at 80K, chews up brakes, tires annually and is driven less than 12K per year! Lost brakes completely 3 times, something to do with the ABS/traction control. Does not hold an alignment, creeks, squeaks, clunks still after everything replaced...bearings, struts, bushings, steering rack. And than there is the elusive fix to the interior lights staying on, no one can figure it out so battery needs to be replaced frequently! Wish I had known...never would have bought it.

When I was pregnant with our second child we needed a reliable family vehicle. So we decided on a van. I have always driven Ford so we naturally looked to the Windstar. This car has not only been unreliable (requiring numerous trips to the mechanic as soon as a month after we purchased it) it has at times been unsafe to drive. We recently had to replace the transmission and to tell you the truth this space is not large enough to list all the mechanical difficulties we've had. Do yourself a favor don't buy a Windstar.

Last Ford

We purchased the vehicle new from the dealership and had great luck until about 30,000 miles. We then kept having basic problems including continual brake problems, Blown head gasket, Intake manifold, Electrical problems on windows and door locks. I have spent an additional $6,000 over 7 years to keep it running with no help from Ford. At this point, 113,000 miles, I will keep it because it's not worth anything unless the transmission or something else goes. This is my last Ford, they have made a loyal Toyota customer from me.

Run away as fast as you can!

This is by far the worst car we have every owned. Multiple brake jobs, sensor failure, door lock failure, tie- rod failure. I could go on and on. The transmission has failed 3 times; 52,000, 84,000 and and 96,000. Each time slightly outside the warranty. I called for and they told me "There is no inherent problems with the Windstar transmissions." BALONY! Ford didn't even offer a discount as a goodwill gesture. Buying a new car next week... a HONDA!
