Love to hate my car- filing a claim with BBB

So as most of you have posted you love/hate your car as well. I love the luxury of this car in looks as the sportiness comes to mind as well. However, I have had my car less than a year! I bought it with a little less than 66,000 miles on it. Now after reading reviews, I'm not the only one having issues with this throttle problem. My car too died on the freeway while going 72 miles! After reading the reviews I'm happy I have the extended warranty, but they still want to charge me the deductible. I've gone to the BBB dept for help. I do not feel anyone should have to pay for a known issue.

brake problem

Purchased 2010 Fusion Sept.2012. Loved it. May 2013 stepped on brake and car failed to stop. Hit my Doctor's building. Car not damaged but extensive damage to building. Towed to Ford Dealership where purchased, after checking it they said no problem with car that I probably stepped on gas instead of brake. March 2014 same problem, almost sideswiped another car. This time I slammed on the brakes and luckily it stopped. Took it to my Mechanic (not to Ford)The same thing happened at the garage. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I feel very fortunate that no one has been injured or killed including me. Now I won't feel safe in it.

Test Drive Carefully

2010 Ford Fusion SE 4dr Sedan (2.5L 4cyl 6M)
1 of 1 people found this review helpful

I bought this car in July of 2009 and am favorably impressed by its handling, except for the blocked rear view which forces you to rely on the side mirrors to see when backing. Also the dials are too small and hard to find. The air conditioner controls are almost impossible to see in strong daylight. Also there is no outside temperature gauge, which is inexcusable in this day and age. My real problem is that the ride feels like there is at least one out of balance tire. I have replaced the original Michelin tires and got no relief and put the Michelins back on. The dealer says this is just natural for this car and Ford knows nothing about it. Before you buy this car, drive it carefully.

Why would you buy a Camry?

The 2.5L is a great I4. I never feel the need for more power and I still get about 30 mpg on my commute. Love the interior, exterior design, and the sync system. Very quiet. I've read some reviews claiming there are too many buttons, but personally I like having all the controls at my fingertips. (It's really not hard to figure out what they do.) I test drove a Camry to compare and I can't see any reason to take that over a Fusion.

Horrible transmission!

As the title of my review says, the 6- speed automatic transmission is horrible. It hangs between gears. There is a delay from when you step on the accelerator until you actually start moving. Downshifting is clunky and jerky. It feels as if they assigned the development of the trans to a fresh-out and forgot to watch what they were doing. That or they released the alpha version and forgot to go through the usual refinements, like every other automaker. This is unfortunate, since I do like other aspect of the car. Nice ride, good features, competitively priced. The trans is a deal breaker though, and I fully expect to have it fail me. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! Look at other reviews with same issue!

We have had our Ford Fusion for year and have had it towed twice. First time, engine wouldn't turn over; second time, engine turned, but immediately stalled and couldn't continue. Both covered under warranty, but when you are used to trouble-free Camrys, tough to swallow. Also, dealer sold us new car with repaired tire that eventually went flat and necessitated purchasing a brand new tire. We are awaiting a replacement check.

I've had my Ford Fusion for 9 months and I now have a recall on the solenoid. Soon after the notice I began to have severe problems with the transmission. I took it in and now the entire transmission has to be replaced. I'm not pleased that a new car has major transmission problems. I bought it based on a review from edmunds so I hope others read my review. Perhaps it's a fluke but now I've had a smokey rental car for a week which I had to ask for rather than have it offered. Now I'm wondering if should have bought a Honda like last time.

I bought the S with automatic due to dealer promotion. In test drive, it drove better than 2011 Sonata and costs a lot less. Just had 1500 km on it, seems a fuel sipper on the highway. I got 6 L/100 km highway (~40 MPG I believe, I am in Canada so we use metric), about 10-11 local. Driving is very smooth, hardly any engine or wind noise, although the road noise can be noticeable at highway speed. Only time will tell the reliability.

The ride is firm but comfortable, steering is taut without being overly so, vehicle corners well and the interior is a class act, but unfortunately all this is marred by a transmisson that takes all the joy out of the driving experience. I purchased a demo w/16000 miles on odo. Clearly I didn't take the vehicle for a long enough test drive. When going down hill or coasting to a stop when speed drops to about 40 the transmission down shifts & slows the vehicle so quickly you end up having to give it more gas. This vehicle is supposed to have a CVT transmission which is supposed to shift smoothly. Well apparently no one at Ford got that memo. This is my third and last Ford.

I am 73 years old and this is my 13th. new vehicle. Ford got it right and Motor Trend did the same naming it Car of the Year. Best car I have ever owned by far. Just completed our first road trip from Nashville to Chattanooga TN over the treacherous I- 24 MT. Eagle. Except for the drive over the mountain I set the cruise control on 70 mph. The engine turns just at tat over 2000 rpm at 70. Overall trip mileage was 38 mpg. That is with an automatic running the AC as well.I have to laugh at the snobs who bought Toyotas.

Perspective: Bought this car after driving a 2003 Honda Accord V6 w/Nav for the past 7 years. Wanted all the things I loved about my Accord, but with AWD and some driving fun. Fusion fit the bill. 1200 miles into it the car is very fun to drive and impressing me everyday. Corners great and accel. is equal to/better than my Accord (but Fusion is AWD) Quiet cabin but enough engine noise to feel sporty. SYNC=Amazing. I have Nav screen and love every feature. BLIS/cross-traffic/back up cam work great. Stereo Rocks! Just missed the last snowfall, so AWD review will have to wait. I'm an Average Joe who needs to haul two small kids safely in WI, but want to have fun doing it. So far, this is it!

I bought my 2010 Fusion used a year ago and only 1 issue happened and that was the power steering failed. My dealer was very help full in the cost adjustment as I had the car about 3 months at that time. I was told that was the first time they ever saw or heard of that on a FUSION......the throttle body also failed since I had written this report.....NO MORE FORD FUSION FOR ME I GOT RID OF THIS PROBLEM FILLED CAR........THERE WERE ALSO ASSORTED ELECTRICAL ISSUES NOT REPORTED ON THE ORIGINAL REVIEW THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED A GREMLIN....... My only complaint on the interior is the controls for the air/fan/ heat etc are in an non convenient location as to ease of reach and adjustment while driving. I notice on the 2013 Fusion that the issue has been addressed properly. This is a very rewarding purchase for me as I have owned many other vehicles in my life and some sure sucked as to quality. That is usually found out after a person buys it! . SOLD THE FUSION......WENT BACK TO A FORD ESCAPE......MUCH BETTER FOR MY DESIRES AND NEEDS THE ESCAPE I BOUGHT IS MILES AHEAD OF THIS CAR.....I HAVE NOW OWNED THIS 2012 ESCAPE FOR 2 YEAR AND COUNTING. FORD IS STILL NUMBER ONE MANUFACTURE OF NORTH AMERICAN MADE .

Average about 22 mpg and need to replace first set of tires and will not go with the Good Year RS A tires again. Ok tire but not great.

This is my second AWD Fusion , had a 2007 ,the car probably saved my life with it's 5 star crash rating as some one ran a red light at high speed and hit me in the drivers door (didn't even break the glass or door panel) Went out and purchased a new 2010 AWD SEL , best car I've ever had . So far the only problem Iv'e had is the recall for transmission reprogram , but last few day's the 6 speed transmission has been slipping or jumping when heavily accelerating , has even popped into neutral once ,it is scheduled to go into dealer in a couple of day's any advice ?

This is by far my best business commuter/ travel car yet! I'm now going on 10 months of ownership and I'm coming up on nearly 50,000 miles and not one issue yet. I drive about 80k miles a year usually, and this car so far is super reliable. I love how comfy it is on the really really long trips (longest so far is 9 days and 3100 miles). The only thing I've replaced so far is the tires at 29k. I can just go on and on about how much I love this car! My last 4 commuters were all Accords but no more, Fusions from here on out.

I've been an account manager for 35 years and this Fusion SEL is my 25th company car and it's the best I've ever had...so much so that I plan to buy it when the lease is up. I got 31 MPG at 75 MPH on the interstate. The SYNC. leather heated seats, heated side views are wonderful. My only problem was a rattle in the back that ended up being a faulty set of trunk hinges. I really love this car and I'm very pleased that it's American

I purchased a 2010 Ford Fusion S back in 2017, where it had 72000 miles on it, and was allegedly well-maintained, according to the Carfax report. Performance was below average, where the 170 hp engine was able to adequately push a 3500 lb curb weight, but it didn't come anywhere close to the alleged 8.8 0-60 time. On a good day, with the air conditioning off, it was much closer to 10 seconds. The reliability wasn't very good, though. There were quite a few open recalls on this vehicle, and some were fixed, but many weren't. The canister purge valve must be replaced, or else your vehicle will stall out all too easily when you first start it. The passenger side air bags made by Takata are available for recall, but the driver side air bags are not in stock. Also, the exhaust gas regulator (EGR) valve needs to be replaced as well, or else you'll get more stalling when you first start the vehicle. You can overcome this by gunning the gas after starting it, but that's so much of a hassle, and you'll trigger every maintenance and check engine light. The valve gasket covers aren't designed very well. I had to replace it and the cylinder boots, since it was leaking and spewing oil into the engine. I also had to replace the spark plugs (even though they were allegedly replaced at 50K) since they were smeared in oil. Also, the coolant thermostat is likely to break down around 150K. That's about a 500 dollar fix, but at least it's straight forward. The oxygen sensors tend to die out very quickly. I've had to replace them two times during the 90000 miles that I owned the vehicle, and when they die, you'll definitely notice your engine being very sluggish. It got to the point where it would take about 13.0 seconds to get to 60 MPH. Fuel economy isn't very good either. For a vehicle that's supposed to get 24 / 31 MPG, it was much closer to 20 / 27 MPG.

Impressive car that won us over with its comfort, solidity, safety record, gas mileage and fun quotient! We have the smooth-shifting 6-speed AT. Tested a few mid-size sedans; came down to Accord (when will Honda ever install split fold-down rear seats?), Mazda6 (a blast to drive but odd "tiger lounge" interior fabric) and Fusion. The Fusion won in part because we wanted an attractive car (like Mazda6) that doesn't look like every other car on the road (like Accord). Have put 5K on in two months (double our normal mileage) in part because it's now our regular "go-to" car--so fun to drive!

My Fusion is an SEL with the 3.0 V6, bought mid-2010. Since then I've already put upwards of 25,000 miles on it, mixed city/highway. In short, I've put it through hell. It still drives like new. Unlike "Big Three" cars of just a few years ago, there's not a squeek or rattle to be heard. I've had none of the transmission issues some people are complaining about. One must realize that unhappy customers are more likely to speak up than satisfied ones...I highly doubt the number of complaints here are indicative of the actual frequency of the issues (this goes for all cars). I seem to recall though that a change was made to the 2010 transmissions in early 2010 to resolve some issues.

I am a long-time Hondaphile. Have owned Hondas for years. If not a Honda a Toyota. This time around I decided to try a Fusion because of a test- drive offer at the autoshow. HOLY COW. Quiet, smooth, fantastic transmission, very cool design both inside and out. Out went the Accord, in came the Fusion. Driving one would make you a convert too. It really out-Hondas the Accord. Imagine a quieter, smoother Accord and this is the car. The price point is very good too. I saved thousands over a comparably equipped Honda. Lastly, it is a recommended car by Consumer Reports and the reliability ratings have been stellar. I am happy that I tried out a Ford dealership.

This car is phenomenal, I traded in my 2004 F-150 for this car as I was in need of a car that gives me better mileage. I ended up test driving a Hyundai Sonata 2010, Honda Accord 2010, Toyota Camry 2010, and Nissan Altima 2010. To keep it short and sweet, this car came out the victor of the test drives, it gives you a great interior with great standard options, that the Japanese automakers nickel and dime you for. The drive of the vehicle is very smooth and A LOT more fun, it beats the Accord which to me was the 2nd of the lineup in value and fun factor. Overall give this car a try I assure you wont be disappointed in what Ford has done to compete with the japanese.

I am pleased with my 2010 Ford Fusion SE with V6, select shift automatic, appearance package, and sync system. It handles great, has more than enough power, and gets better mileage than expected. In mostly suburban driving I average 23.5 MPG. One complaint would be that the transmission could shift smoother, especially from second to third. It shifts a little like a stick even in fully automatic and after a recall to adjust the shift controller. Another complaint would be rear visibility. The trunk is deep reducing height of rear window, making it hard to see when backing up, even for someone of average height.

This is the first domestic car I have owned in 20 years. Ford got it right with this car. Build quality is great and no squeaks or rattles after 6000 miles. Got 34 mpg on a trip average around 26 in town Plenty of room for me at 6 ft tall and a little wider then i used to be. This is one of my the nicest cars I have had in a long time. Spend the extra money for the SEL the leather, heated seats and the vision package are well worth the money. The SYNC system is second to none. I have most of it figured out by now. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a great value for your money. The 4 cylinder engine is a little loud at times but the better gas mileage is well worth the trade off.

This is a flawed car for Americans: 1) More than 50% of the car is made or assembled in Mexico (the engines), and Japan (the transmisions). After adjusting the front power seat for myself, I'm 5'8", I noticed there is no seat memory as in my wife and myself: this is not a big deal as it uses the cars' main computer and would only involve one switch and about 4' of wire. The last nasty surprise is, after setting the seat for myself, I did something I always do at this point: I got in the back seat, and I smacked my head twice (I ducked after the 2nd time, and still hit my head). This isn't exactly rocket science, I don't know how Ford, a company I like, let this one out like this.

I own a 2005 Camry and a 2008 Altima coupe. The Fusion meets or beats those cars for ride quality, power and comfort. Ford has done a great job in building a car that shows America can build and engineer a quality midsized sedan. I have 1200mi on the car and have been averaging 28 mpg 60% city) by fill-up. the computer shows 31 to 34 mpg on the highway. This is my first American car purchase in ten years and I am very picky. You will not be disappointed if you choose this car over any of the Japanese or Korean competition. Drive this car then drive a Camry and Accord and you will be amazed at how quiet this car is. The Fusion is by far a much quieter car. The 4 cyl has tons of power.

I have never owned or driven a Ford product. I was always a GM person. Due to the fact that Ford was the only company (of the big 3), not to take Government bailouts, led me to test drive a Ford. Would I ever buy another one? Definitely!!! I purchased my new Fusion SE and love every minute of driving it. The vehicle is very well built and rides like a dream. It meets or exceeds my expectations, as compared to all other vehicles, in it's class. The 6 speed manual transmission shifts as smooth as a hot knife going through butter. It's stylist and responsive. Ford has done their homework and impressed me, to no end. Take one for a drive and see for yourself. It's a great value.

When I sat in the drivers seat I told my wife this was the car. At first the front door wouldn't close until I opened a window that showed me the body had good sound engineering. Believe me I did my homework. The seven cars were almost identical in all dimensions. I was not going to buy a Fusion but one drive and I was hooked.

My wife and I are extremely pleased with our Fusion SE. Whatever shortcomings the previous model had Ford has addressed them. Compared to a couple other competing sedans we were immediately impressed by the style of the interior, the tastefulness of design and quality of materials. The exterior is sporty and the honeycomb taillights are neatly shaped. The adjustable lumbar support is really nice and the six-speed automatic is very smooth. The ride is quiet and the suspension has just the right amount of compliance. This is a quality car-do check it out.

2010 SEL 3.0 V6 with sport package

Before I purchased this car I looked at the Accord and Camry. Fit and finish I would say the Honda was a hair better but the Ford was much nicer then the Toyota, especially in design. Performance and driving were very close with all models but I found the ford more fun. I liked the idea of a V6 without having to go to the sport. Mileage was about 27mpg during the summer but I'm down to high 23's this winter. My 3.0 doesn't seem to like the winter blend. The car is very fun to drive and with a manual transmission it would be almost perfect. I do have two issues, one is a high pitched wine from the fan motor and a clunk from the driver's side rear door. I will be taking it in shortly.

The 2010 Ford Fusion is an exceptional American made car. The styling is outstanding, and the mileage is impressive for a non-hybrid car. I have had the car for three weeks now, and I have yet to find any defects. The power is sufficient (it's a somewhat small I-4 for gas mileage), and the six speed transmission is great. The interior has been improved significantly from the 2009, and nothing in it seems cheap or out of place. The guages and switches are all in reasonably located positions. I particularly love the main guages, their colors and lighting, and the way they reset themselves each time you start the car. I love it.

A very fine inexpensive car, well built, excellent handling and fun to drive. Engine is smooth and powerful, wish it got better mpg, oh well. Sync is fantastic, luxury cars should consider adopting the system. Steering wheel controls are very handy, particularly the volume control, my hands never leave the steering wheel -- safe and secure. Heated seats are a must now as well, climate control works perfectly.

When we set-out to replace my reliable old Camry (170,000 mi), our first thought was an Accord since we already own and love our Honda Odyssey van. After a number of test drives (Accord, Subaru and Ford), we just couldn't get over how much we liked the Fusion. The car has been so well thought-out from the ground-up, that there is no question why it secured the MT COTY award for 2010! After 3 Honda's and 2 Toyota's, we're sold on the Fusion. Hoping for years of reliable service (the true test).

So impressed with this car. Numerous times on the drive back from the dealer I would say, "This is so much fun to drive, I cannot believe this is a Ford." Mine has the voice-nav, and I love the huge 8'' display. Sync is wonderful, and it is just a treat to drive. I enjoy getting in a car again and driving. My MPG is up to 17.5, but the oomph from the 3.5L duratec is phenom. The sport suspension takes turns like no other. So happy. Sirius Sat radio is another plus.

I absolutely love my Fusion. It's very roomy, handles well, and just loves when you open the throttle. I have the Monochrome Appearance package, and I love the individuality that I have. A winner all around!

Bought the sport after internet research and test drive. The ride is smooth and tight, with a leather interior second to none. Excellent acceleration and braking. The fit and finish is better than the Accord and Malibu which we compared it to. So far we have been averaging 31mpg on the highway and 22.8 in the city(with air on)6sp auto a plus. Backseat room is excellent and instrument cluster sweet.Ths sport is comfortable, spacious and definetly a great ride over the accord and chevy.Sync system puts you cell and i pod at your fingertips with no interference in driving attention. Dual zone air is excellent.

Handles very well. Smooth on the road. Tires are rated 44 psi and they had 40 when I drove off. A bit choppy so I dropped pressure to 34 PSI and it made a nice difference. (Door sticker states 31 psi) I have an SE model but it is nicely equipped with optional sun-roof and spoiler. I love the style and the crisp handling. Gas Mileage seems to be in the 30's avg. but I do a lot of highway. We'll see as it breaks in more. Very happy with the purchase. Fit and finish is excellent.

This is the first 4 cyl vehicle I have owned and so far its been great. I though it would have taken me longer to get used to a 4 cyl but it has been a great drive. I really think Ford has done an excellent job with this car. Of course, I got all the extra features on mine. Moonroof, Sony system. BLIS this feature is great when changing lanes, back up camera, cross traffic which helps when parked between two large vehicles and want to leave the space, and the sync system. I really love my car (I never thought I would be saying this about a 4 cyl car). I really like the new inside and outside styling.

problem transmission body valve

got this car in Sept 09and loved it, at first. It handles nicely on the road, and is a comfortable drive. Unfortunately, around 10,000 miles I started to have a problem with the car not being able to shift properly. So i took it to the shop and they tell me i have a transmission body valve problem, but unfortunately I cant get the part for 1 1/2months because they are back ordered. They also don't offer me a loaner, but say i can continue to drive the car "but will have problem with quick acceleration, like getting on a highway." this is very disturbing and want to know how other people have done that have had this trans valve problem, b/c it seems to happen to a lot of the 2010 fusion
