I knew that there was no way that this car would really average 47 MPG overall, so I had already adjusted my expectations down to think I might get 37 - 40 MPG overall, and I was OK with that. After the first 1000 miles, I'm getting about 37 overall, which is OK, but I want and expect it will get better. At least I hope so. I got the appearance package with 18" tires, so that may have a slightly worse impact on MPG, compared to the standard 17" Low Rolling Resistance tires. Not sure how much difference that makes, but presumably a little. Overall, I really like the car. I sold my 2013 Honda Accord to get one and I definitely think it was worth it.

Love the look and feel, but not the MPG

I purchased a Fusion Hybrid SE 4 weeks ago. The car drives great, handles turns with ease, and accelerates decently for a 2.0L. The seats too are very comfortable and the look of the car is fantastic. The MPG however isn't even close to the advertised 47/47. I've put 1500+ miles on the car and my best MPG is 38. In order to try to get better MPG, I've totally changed my driving habits, accelerating slowly, keeping the car at 60 on highways, breaking so that I get 100% power return, etc....I recently read an experts review and they noted better mileage in warmer temps. Maybe..but I also saw that Ford is being investigated by the EPA. I still love the car but the MPG is disappointing.

Possibly the Best Car I Have Owned

I was curious about hybrids after test driving an older Prius. When I learned Ford had hybrid technology on a model of the Fusion, I decided to buy one. On the whole, my 2013 Fusion Hybrid has been excellent. After learning how to maximize the hybrid feature, the average mpg as tallied by the onboard computer is 38.6. That average is from the first day I received the car. During the summer when the a/c is being used or in the dead of winter when the heater/defroster are running often, mileage can be in the mid 30's. During spring and fall, mileage can average over 40 for a number of tanks. A car is more than gas mileage. Handling, comfort, reliability, ride quality, quietness of ride are all features in which this mid-priced car excels. The car has had no repairs other than expected maintenance items. This car is impressive. I will likely buy another Ford someday. I do not plan to buy another hybrid from any brand unless there is a major improvement in value for the additional expense.

Updated 12-7-2016 I now have 82K miles on the car and have had no mechanical issues with the car. I still love the ride and overall comfort of the vehicle. The fold down rear seat has come in handy for transporting 10 foot lengths of PVC and baseboard trim when our other vehicle is busy. :-) I would highly recommend this car to anyone. Ford has a real hit here. BTW my lifetime fuel economy is 41.7 now and I have a heavy foot! I purchased this car as a work vehicle. I am a salesman who needs a comfortable ride for myself and clients. The Fusion Hybrid SE has been the perfect fit. The car is quiet and road noise is minimal. I have owned mine since May of 2013 and have driven it 68K averaging 42.5 mpg. Rear seat passengers always comment on the comfort and roominess of the rear seating. The 2.0 liter hybrid engine has plenty of pep when you need it and the CVT is smooth. My wife is not a "car person" and prefers trucks and SUV's but has stated on many occasions that she "likes" the Fusion. Overall I really love this car! Positives: Great styling, comfort, quiet ride, great handling, fuel economy, responsive, front and rear seats are very comfortable, auto adaptive cruise is a great feature, fold down rear seat is handy when shopping or carrying long or bulky items. Negatives: Bluetooth voice commands get garbled and people you are talking to on the hands free have trouble hearing you when climate control fan speed is above 40%. I have had to turn off/down the fan to make a hands free call or use voice command gps navigation.

Best Car Purchase I've Made - UPDATED

I bought this car Certified from a Ford dealership, 4 years old with 50,000 miles on it. I bought it specifically for the gas mileage of the hybrid. I had seen several reviews of the hybrid saying that they weren't getting the rated 44mpg city in the real world. Still, I figured I'd have to save a lot of money on gas upgrading from my old vehicle, so I went with it. I couldn't be happier with the gas mileage. I am a volunteer firefighter, and if I'm making a run and really accelerating hard (not all the way to the floor every time, but still asking for a lot of power), I see around 37 to 39mpg from a trip. If I'm really trying my best to increase fuel economy, I regularly get near 50mpg, no problems. And if I'm driving along as usual and not paying attention to my gas mileage or acceleration, I'll get around 46mpg, maybe even a little more. There are all kinds of driving aids and tips that you can configure on the dash to help coach you in getting the best gas mileage, and at the end of each trip when you turn the key off, it tells you how many miles you drove, your fuel economy for that trip, and a few other fuel economy related items about the trip. It didn't take me long at all to get used to driving the most efficiently for this car. I drive between 100 and 200 miles a day usually, between work, school, the firehouse, and any other driving I do, and I'd say overall I average around 46 or 47mpg. I bought the car hoping for great gas mileage, but really I'm getting even more than I expected without really trying. So with gas mileage, I am more than happy. Moving on, I love the look of the car, inside and out. My mom (who has owned a Mercedes before) told me she would have thought it was a Mercedes getting in the passenger seat. It's really a very appealing car by looks, both inside and out. Mine has the touch screen and heated seats and I'm very happy with the value and what all options I have (which I'm still discovering as I go on). I feel like I'm driving a luxury car every day. One random thing I've noticed is that you don't need to turn the A/C on to have cold air blowing. And I'm usually the person who will have the A/C on 11 months out of the year. With the Fusion, I rarely turn it on. I find myself getting chilly in the car with only the regular climate fan turned on and turned to Lo. Somehow, it cools the car down more than my old car's A/C did, without me ever having to turn on the air conditioner, which again saves fuel. My only two things I can point out that I'm not the biggest fan of (and this is only because I'm really looking for a downside to report, it's really not a big deal) are: 1) the bluetooth will lose connection with my iPhone 7 fairly often, to the point where I don't use the car to make phone calls because it will almost always cut out during the call, and 2) I'd rather have physical buttons than touch-sensitive buttons for controls on the center-stack, because I have to take my eyes off the road to adjust the climate, I can't just feel for the buttons or knobs. But really, that's just personal preference, and not a knock on the car itself. Overall, I am thrilled with the car. The gas mileage is better than expected and the only reason I can think that others aren't seeing these numbers is because they're driving the car like a regular gasoline motor without following the tips that the car gives you. It only took me a couple short drives to get the driving down, and now I do it naturally. And it's not like I'm driving extremely slow or anything. I got a ton of compliments on the car the first day I drove it to work. It looks and feels like a much more expensive car than it is. Absolutely no regrets with this car! 2 year update: My average mpg over the last two years is around 38. The fuel economy goes down in colder months as the gas motor runs much longer to warm the car up. 75% of the year, I still get up to 50mpg pretty regularly. My rating for the vehicle has gone down in a few areas. The Sync system in the car is VERY unreliable. It is slow to respond, sometimes won’t respond at all, and I can’t stream music via Bluetooth from my phone because every time I do, the Sync system acts like it has a mind of its own: it will skip songs entirely, play half a song then skip to the next song, the display will show Chinese characters, the display will be stuck on the first song I listened to and not catch up, and I have to do a master reset to the entire system about once a month because it will stop connecting to my phone randomly. Apparently these are common problems with Sync across all models. Heated seat only works about 10% of the time, also a common problem with no fix. Several of the dash back-lights have stopped working. Mechanically I have not had a single issue and just crossed 100k miles. Love the car itself and haven’t had to put any money into it except oil changes and tires, but not happy with the technology/electronics as they are very buggy and unreliable.
