This has been the biggest headache of a car I have ever owned. Every time I think I have the problem solved, something else breaks! I have put in a new transmission, ball joints, breaks, drive train, and steering arm. I cannot get through the payments to trade the lemon in. The people I bought it from can't stand behind it and Ford won't recognize the "lemon law" as well AWwwwww!

Ford CVT Transmission problems

Our 2007 Ford Freestyle was purchased used in 2009 with 17000 miles. Immediately a traction controll light kept coming on on the dash. When we took it to the dealership, they couldn't find a problem and we were told to ignore it. Now at 66,000 miles, it has severe problems with the transmission not working. Worse, when we took it to two local dealerships, neither worked on the CVT transmission and wasn't able to diagnose or repair the problem. From reading reviews on the internet, I find that this problem is common in the Freestyle and the lack of Ford Trained Transmission specialists is common also. This car isn't reliable and I would pass on buying another with the CVT transmission.

I had a 2005 Freestyle and loved it, then I got t boned 😡 my husband's cousin sold me his 2007 and it was sweet but smaller. 2 days after I bought it before having it insured it caught on fire...the ac compressor was the cause. My mobil mechanic friend literally put it back together from the compressor to the wiring. It had 160 something thousand miles when I got it and the transmission is still good but after 300,040ish miles the motor is kaput! That car went from Knoxville, TN to UTC in Chattanooga to Kentucky and so many more states! #noregrets

Just bought the Freestyle after looking at minivans. No real competitors to this vehicle. Decided to go with the Freestyle after other minivans felt too bulky while driving and the comfort was not as good. Took a 500 mile trip over the weekend, love the ride, very smooth and very comfortable. Also have an Expedition, Freestyle is more comfortrable. Replaced a Honda CRV because it was too noisy, a stiff ride, and fuel useage was no better than 25mpg. Freestyle got 25+ on trip, very good for a heavier vehicle with V6. When compared to CRV it's outstanding.
