Used 2016 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
114k Explorer Sport
Purchased to replace our F-250 Superduty as it was eating us alive in gas and maintenance. Vehicle had 114k miles on it and had definitely been put through the ringer by a family with at least 2 kids and a pet (dog/cat) judging by what was found when I detailed it. As someone that has historically like Fords I was slightly un-impressed with how the vehicle had held up for that time. Numerous covers had popped off, trim clips had long disappeared with seals becoming worn faster as a result and now needing replaced. Leather seems to wear faster now and the actual covers had clips pop off there as well, with replacement of those being needed in the near future as the leather upholstery shifts on the passenger side. Some of the paint defects can be notes throughout the body of the vehicle but panels are in decent shape otherwise. Mechanically this thing is a beast! the 3.5 ecoboost is something here, with strong output and no blowback at this mileage. Was a slight misfire (changed the sparkplugs and fixed) when first fired up from cold and outside that everything was in good order. I really do enjoy the look of this generation Explorer and our paint color in particular is awesome (bronze fire) which is why we ultimately bought this after everything. Gas mileage is entirely better than our Super Duty, it's roomy and it has enough features to keep us happy (we don't need every option). Will update this as time goes on and see how things go!

Worst Purchase EVER made! 2.3L EcoBoost AWD 4-Cyl
We've had our Ford Explorer Since March of 2018. Since we've had it, we've had to change the Engine, get a whole new transmission, change the steering shaft, get the oil pan fixed and guess what!!! It is in the garage again. We own a 2006 Venza and we've never done anything to that car. I prefer to drive the 2006 than the 2016 because at this point I CAN'T trust the Explorer and would NEVER recommend one to anyone.

Worst vehicle I’ve ever owned, beware!!!
I bought this car used with 34,000 miles as a trade for my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland that I kept having issues with. I told the salesman that I would give up the bells and whistles I had on the Jeep for more of a base model as long as it was RELIABLE. I have 3 kids and I am constantly driving, so safety and reliability are priority. Long gone are the days where I had the luxury of worrying about style and speed. I had this car no longer than a month (clean car fax and perfect maintenance prior to purchase, mind you) and the power steering went out. Got it loaded on the flat bed tow truck just to find the serpentine belt dangling on the ground. Yes, that’s a relatively minor problem. It’s what has come after that infuriates me. To make this shorter, I’ll just make a list. ~Failed transmission at 50,000 miles. ~Battery replaced, but within a year it’s leaking acid. Corrosion covering the lines. Car won’t start half the time. ~Failed brakes needed to be completely replaced. (While driving with my kids, I might add) ~Electronics shot- back right window stuck in rolled down position, front windows roll up/down on their own, side view mirrors will not adjust, etc. ~Driver’s side back door jams and will not open most of the time. ~Rear air blower has recently begun starting on its own. I’m sure there is more, I’ve just lost track. I’ll just say this... buyers BEWARE! If I were the only one coming forward with issues, I’d be more than willing to think maybe I just got a lemon. But after reading these reviews? Yeah. Never Ford, never again.

Why I'm Breaking up with Ford
I purchased this vehicle new. Not only does the hood of this vehicle already show corrosion (and it's been garage kept), the paint is also flaking off in that area. Of course it's not covered under warranty. I also had the keyless entry go bad on the driver's side panel and the battery needed to be replaced (again not covered under warranty since I was over 36,000 miles). I'm already beginning to have transmission issues with it and can't help but feel there will be some small print somewhere as to why that's not covered. I can't decide if I should dump this vehicle now or just keep it until it falls apart... which by the looks of it, may not be too long. For a vehicle that is two years old, this is just unacceptable. After this, I'm DONE with Ford.
