Used 1999 Ford Explorer SUV Consumer Reviews
work horse
This truck took a bad rap for the tire thing. I've owned my from 99 and just now put in the shop for the the first breakdown--a thermostat gone bad in 90+ degree Texas.
Loving it
Handles great, good turnning radius, not much of a blind spot, low maintenance

99 Explorer, tie rod end replace 37K
At 37000 miles all four tie rod ends needed to be replaced. This seems too soon. The cup holders and extra storage in the front area is extremely poor. Driver seat does not go back far enough for leg and arm comfort. Performance is very good, and gas mileage is surprisingly good for such a large vehicle. Side to side rocking on rough roads seems excessive.
Buy one!
This was my first Ford purchase. I purchased the vehicle with 60,000 miles. The only major problem I head is both heads cracked at 90,000 miles. Ford was great about the problem and replaced both heads under warranty even though the warranty had expired. I pull a boat with my explorer and has plenty of power.
Explorer
Great on trips. Great off road. Great in city.
