Used 2001 Ford Explorer Sport SUV Consumer Reviews
New Ford purchase
This is this first US auto purchase in over several years. Tranisisition from a Japanese SUV , has been an extremly pleasant experience to date (approx 8K mileage)on the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. The ride quality and reliability has been most favorable and would only improve the current MPS, which aligns with other SUV's in it's class (avr. 16 MPG)
Good value for SUV
Looked at other smaller SUV like the Pathfinder and 4Runner. Based on performance/price. The smaller Explorer is a much better value if this is a used as a second car and you already have a Minivan or something else that will seat seven. As far as reliability, you may use the money you saved on the purchase to but an extended warranty (just in case). The Pathfinder with similar options is low-mid 30s., The 4Runner is a little lower, but at 183 HP and lower tourque, it's a no-brainer. I'm happy with my choice and I saved at least 7-8K on the purchase price.

Great Truck
Bought this truck in 2002, had about 19k miles on it. This was the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Started ever time, ran smooth, lots of torque. Mileage was about 18mpg and the ride was rough, but it's a truck. This truck never had any major problems, kept truck for 7 years and was very happy with it. Sold it with 120,000 miles, still had the original tires, which were still not ready to be replaced.

Great Vehicle!! Fun to drive!! Great Insurance Rates!!
Truly Ford Tough
My second new Ford. Bought it in June of 2000, and still drive it every day. Needs only routine maintenance, and has been absolutely wonderful. The little annoying things scarcely ruin my overall satisfaction in ownership. (e.g.: The center console vinyl fell apart after about a year.) Lots of room inside. (Fit 6 bicycles and 4 people) 4-wheel-drive is powerful, if a little clunky at lower speeds when using 4-Hi, but hardly an issue as it's rarely required as such. I'm very happy with my truck.
