Love my new C-Max!

I have had my C-Max for about a week now and I could not be happier. Still in the "breaking in" period with an avg mpg of 34.1, but I'm watching that number climb every time I drive it. I have had highway driving trips with 55 mpg and city driving trips around 47. With only about 400 miles on the car I expect these numbers to improve or at least become more consistent. Obviously not built for speed, but that's not why you would want this car. Still, with the combined 188 hp there's enough power to move when you need/want to. Comfort, space and fuel efficient with a kick.

I had thought for some time I would own a hybrid, but it wasn't until I went shopping for a newer car for my wife, that I actually bought one. I had ridden in a Prius, which may have been an older model, because it looked cheap inside and rode poorly. The inside of the C-MAX looks like Ford was trying to make it for real people who liked things that looked nice and not cheap. Both my wife and I like the C-MAX and, with the dealer installed rear camera, it is a very useful vehicle and rides well. The 8 year warranty from Ford on the engine-battery-transmission system plus a 7 year warranty on the whole car made the investment worthwhile. The car is even fun to drive because of its tight steering and braking. Because of the preceding, we bought a new one in 2017. This time a C-Max Titanium which is well equipped. It is a very nice car.

New Hybrid Benchmark

Being a very high mile driver my last three cars, before my new C-Max, were a Prius and two Altima Hybrids, each driven over 100,000 nearly trouble free miles. I never expected or got the EPA mileage rating on any of them so the C-Max shortfall doesn't bother me a bit. It started out in the low 30's and at 2500 miles is now in the high 30's while driving hard and fast without paying any attention to maximizing gas mileage. Build quality and performance put the Prius to shame and it's substantially smoother and quietier than the Altima. If it's reliabilty ultimately comes anywhere close to the Prius and Altima the C-Max will simply set a new higher bar for the entry level Hybid market.

I bought this little beauty only to get good gas mileage and did not expect very much. It turned out to be the best car I have ever owned. And I owned many cars over 19 years of driving. First off, please do not let looks fool you. It does appear very simple on the outside, but considering all the pluses this car offers it is well worth anyone's attention. First off is the power. It is very sufficient for a hybrid! I used to drive a 6 cylinder outback and this car would probably beat the subaru off the line. It does rev up from time to time due to a variable tranny, but it gets the job done if you need to pass someone or get the needed pick up on the highway. Interior comfort is beyond great. Lots of head room, good space especially in the back seats and controls are very comfortable. It may appear small on the outside but the inside area allows good stretch space and I would compare it to any midsize SUV. I have looked at the Kia Sportage and that car makes you fold in half just to get inside. The C-max if far more spacious in comparison. The faux leather seats are actually better than leather in my opinion because they do not get so hot in the summer. The only downside to the interior is lack of storage compartments to put small items which is a small design flaw for 2013 model. Performance continues to blow my mind after 2 years of driving it. I have had ZERO problems to date. It drives like a little cloud, swift on the turns, quick on the pick ups and very stable overall. Brakes response is good, but I've noticed while driving over dips it tends to slide over it which is likely because of the complex braking system of a Hybrid. But I never had issues with having to brake quickly whenever somebody in front of me snoozed away while texting. One little issue I do have with my beloved C-max is sometimes the engine may rev up for no reason at all, and it will always happen right when im driving next to a huge truck, it's a bit of a nuisance but I've gotten used to it. Consider that this car performs a lot more tasks with 2 combined engines than your regular Gas guzzler, it makes sense for it to overthink when to produce more power and when to conserve it. Turning radius is also a bit wide. Im still in love with it because It has served me well so far. And I actually use it for work putting in 100 miles a day, and it has never let me down. I highly recommend using full synthetic oil because regular oil will effect the performance of its engine. Overall it continues to surprise me up to this day. Its beyond me how such a great ride would go down in value so quickly, but some people like to judge by the cover and miss on great opportunities like this!

C-max Sel

Had a 2012 Ford Focus that I liked very much except for the rough shifting trans and cramped rear leg room. Drove the C- Max and fell in love with it. Better visability, more comfortable seats, Love the cvt transmission, floor it and it just goes, No gear hunting, good handling and good rear seat leg room. As others have stated gas mileage is not as good as advertised. Cold weather really effects mileage. Driven as instructed in the owners manual in 50 degree weather have averaged 46 in suburban driving on one tank, when its cooler 42. Highway mileage over 60 is 38 to 40. To get the best highway mileage you can't go over 60. Most hybrids get better mileage in town than on the highway.
