Great Value 5.7 Hemi

So when I was looking at a 3 row SUV, it came down to these choices, 4 Runner, Explorer, and Durango. I'll Open with what I liked about the Durano, plenty of space and a usable 3rd row. the re-design is quality and refined. 5.7 hemi has great low end power. Uconnect was easy, and displays friendly. For the same year 4 Runner or Explorer, with similar miles and features, I saved 5K with Dodge. If there is one thing, I will have to take points away, is that the 5.7 hemi is a gas eater, but I knew that going in. For the other reviews that talked about the transmission and shifting, I can see what they are talking about, but for me it recovers quickly and should not be compared to a sports car.

I wanted a vehicle with third row seating that gets decent gas mileage and this perfectly fits the bill ...AND it looks really good!! It's not a hot rod with the 6 cylinder but as long as it climbs any hill (which it has - North Cascades Pass no problem) it serves my purpose. Fuel mileage has been surprisingly good and as long as I keep my foot out of it, it's easily 20mpg average. Like I said: PERFECT. 3 year update - this car has been low maintenance and I still love it to this day. Even though our kids are now older and have their own licenses (i.e. don't really need 3rd row seating) I still choose to drive my Durango.... not to mention the MULTITUDE of times I've laid down all those seats and have hauled home my thrift store, garage sale and Craigslist treasures. Seriously - a TON of room to do any hauling that I've ever needed to do. 4 year update - car has around 150K and still going strong. A current issue/complaint is it's virtually impossible to replace a headlight... you basically have to take off the bumper.... NOT a good thing. That being said, it's a rare ocurrence. Also, there is a common issue with these cars after a few miles where the check engine light comes on due to an evac leak. It's not catatrophic and theoretically it can be ignored for awhile if you don't mind the annoyance of the light but I did read it's a common issue.

I'll Never Buy Another Dodge

SunnySideSouthPaw, 01/24/2017
2012 Dodge Durango Citadel 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 5A)

I'm so disappointed to write this review. We bought the 2012 V8 Citadel which, was mentioned in another review, is not listed in the trim options for this review. I have a friend that had an older model Dodge Durango. He had horrible issues with the transmission but I had heard those issues went away with the newer redesign. We had just sold a Saturn Outlook that let us down and this was the car that we expected to come and redeem us. However, Dodge Corporate and the dealer totally ruined that experience for us. We purchased our car and had to have the transmission totally rebuilt within the the first 20,000 miles of ownership. It was a major concern but luckily our warranties(both factory and the extended we purchased) protected us. Then in 2016 our Durango began randomly stalling on us. It started out random at very long intervals but the intervals began to decrease. The dealer seemed uninterested in addressing the issue at all. Soon enough, the car began stalling while we were on major highways which caused a huge safety concern for us. The dealer kept the car for a day but couldn't reproduce the problem. Finally, the car stopped three times within 4 weeks. We tried getting Dodge corporate involved. Even though we owned two warranties Dodge claimed they couldn't fix our car because there was diag code. As we researched the problem, we found out that there had been a recall for this very issue for our year model but our VIN# was just outside of the recall. The problem was so bad that Dodge was buying back vehicles with the same symptoms we were having but by the time we found out the window to have your vehicle purchased had already passed. For owners who chose to keep their vehicles they were replacing the TIPM (this part is a huge problem with thousands of Daimler Chrysler vehicles). Dodge, AutoNation Katy(the new owners of the dealership where we purchased our car), and the Service dept all refused to replace both the fuel relay (another recalled item previously replaced on our car) and the TIPM. After numerous trips to the dealership, certified letters, multiple phone calls and meetings, and service appointments we finally met with the Area Manager. When we told him we wanted a new TIPM he said, "Oh, that's all you want!". Yes! That's all I want so my family can avoid imminent death in this death trap. We realized that all manufacturers have issues but I can't even estimate how much lost time, work hours, and gas is gone for both parties when some knucklehead could've just said, "Fine. We'll replace this part. Hopefully this will work. If not, we'll see where we need to go from there." Dodge makes beautiful paperweights; nothing more, nothing less.

3.6 V6 isn't fooling anyone....

This vehicle is slow. It's very, very slow. If you have a situation where you need to get into traffic, This vehicle will NOT get you there. It seems like it has to downshift 2x to get to a passing gear, then the engine will wind up to astonishing RPM's before it finally kicks up in speed. A Standing 0-60 is so unbelievably slow, I worry about merging onto the interstate. It's not fun to drive, it's terrifying. The vehicle feels very good. The drivers seat hits me a little close on the back of the legs, somehow making my feet fall asleep, but nothing a seatcover won't cure. It looks very nice, interior is set up pretty well. Stock Stereo is vile, and should be destroyed.

This was the biggest letdown experience I have ever had in a vehicle purchase. I could not even drive this truck! Every time the vehicle would shift my head would go forward as it lagged until the RPM's slowly got up there and which shift again and my head would go forward and lag.. Anybody to say different its just a Dodge fan and there sticking to their guns.. and that's it!! I have a 2002 trailblazer that the durango don't even come close too! I believe the newer ones with the v6 they put a better transmission in. Dad should have a slap on the wrist for putting this vehicle out I will never buy a Dodge again because of it
