I have been a big fan of Edmunds for a long time- but I have to disagree here. I have a 2005 Durango and recently purchased a 08 Aspen (because we enjoy the Durango so much). While I agree that the trucks look very similar there is a huge difference inside the two vehicles. Even though they are similarly equipped, it is obvious that they went to great lengths to differentiate the two vehicles. The gas mileage is worse even with the same engine (hopefully because its new).

I purchased this 5.7 limited Cool Vanilla Aspen with every option but tow package. I got it used with 35k miles. It has nav, dvd, rear heated seats, flat folding 3rd row seating. 20" rims, The car is beautiful and comfortable. After 35K the car runs and drives perfect. My mpg have been 16 city, and according to the computer 23+ ave. hwy. When I filled it up I got 19+ I think this is excelent for a ture 4x4 high and low and full time 4x4 options. I paid 23800 + 1800 full wrap life time warrenty and 1000 for gap. So I got a great deal. There is not a car with all the options and saftey out there. This truck rocks.

This SUV has been a really nice surprise. Essentially it's Chrysler's luxury version of an SUV that lasted only a couple years as I believe it eight into Durango sales. Also I don't think it was very popular. It's looks are very understated but it's fit and finish is second to none. The interior leather and sort of suede is super nice everything is organized on the dash very easily and the buttons for lights and cruise control are easy to reach and figure out. It has a really good navigation system as well as stereo and DVD player front and back. It has a flip down screen for the back seats. It does have three seats and it will pretty easily fit five or uptown 7 8 maybe. It has the hemi engine which has a ton of power and gets respectable 15 miles per gallon down the road and averages about 11 or 12. It's a big heavy vehicle and it takes power to move it. I also got it with the towing package so although it can't handle a whole lot of tongue weight it can pull very heavy trailers or campers very easily as the transmission has its own cooler and I think it has auxiliary coolers for the radiator plus it has more than enough horsepower and torque to do that without a problem and it has towing mode which will not let it go into gas saving mode which is when it cuts out some cylinders. It's been quite a vehicle. It's not your average SUV performance wise it goes very fast well over 120 mph if you want to do that and 0 to 60 in less than 7 seconds it's not a race car but it has a good passing gear will say that. But with gas prices going up vehicles like these are going to be cheaper and cheaper and I can't say that I would buy another one although I am going to keep this because it's just too good all around it's good for piling a bunch of people in and good for pulling trailers like snowmobile trailers or a camper not a problem. It takes 7 quarts of oil and I tend to use semi-synthetic and thankfully it doesn't take premium but it does take mid grade so it's not terribly expensive gas. It will cost you $80 to fill up which coming from a Camry sucks. In the end I've made this my second car my utility vehicle and drive a four-door V6 around. Also insurance for some reason on this vehicle is ridiculously expensive maybe it's just because it's a full size SUV I've never had one before but even stripped down just to liability it's $360 a month. You only major thing that has gone wrong is the water pump. I've also had some problems with electrical in the back for trailer lighting and I have a dummy light on that seems to be impossible to get off as it's a light that's not properly or fully grounded.

Great Full Size SUV for the Money

Bought my 08 this month. There were only 2 left on the lot and this one had all the extras. Love it. Love it. Love it. Best SUV for the money and I haven't found a flaw yet - other than the gas mileage, but I knew how bad that was going in and was willing to make the sacrifice. It wasn't any better than the compact 05 SUV I was driving, but it was certainly better than some of the other full size models I was shopping for.
