I've had 4 Trax's since 2014. No problems with any of them! The new 2024 Trax is definitely my favorite of all them. Price, comfort and styling most of all. Chevy did a wonderful job on this vehicle. Lots of room inside and out. Touch screen is larger also. Brakes are better too! No more rear drum brakes. Don't let that 3cyl. engine deter you. Its actually faster than the 4cyl. version.

Great looks, value, functionality and drivability

I was all over the place when I started looking to replace my car. My wife's car is a Honda CR-V, so I didn't feel the need to have another sport ute. I looked at various used cars and suv's, but, the prices and quality didn't make much sense. So I started looking a new cars and mostly sedans like the Sentra, Corolla, Civic and Elantra. I did look at the HR-V, Kicks, Corolla Cross and even the Trailblazer had some appeal, but, it just felt like I would be buying a smaller version of the CR-V that we already own. I wanted something different. Then the redesigned Trax came out. It checked all the boxes. It has sporty looks, a non-cvt transmission, roomy, very functional and compared to all the above cars, it feels pretty peppy. It feels and looks like a lifted hatch back. I'd say it is most similar to the Subaru Crosstrek, but, at a lot cheaper price and bigger "trunk". And for being a high demand new model, it is fairly easy to get. I opted for the LS model with the convenience and safety packages because that felt like the sweet spot. The silver/light grey color really works well with the chrome trim parts and the silver alloy wheels. I get heated seats, remote start and all the safety stuff for less that 23k. An amazing price for any brand new vehicle, let alone one that isn't boring to look at or drive. I like having actual guages as it feels more sporty to me, but, also love the fact that it come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The 8" screen feels plenty big to me and the backup camera image is large and clear. I love the overall looks of the interior and offers lots of overall storage. I don't mind that it doesn't have a rear folder armrest or rear a/c vents as we don't have back seat passengers very much. The only thing that I'll miss from my old car is a sun glasses holder, but, ordered something I can mount to my sun visor for that. Overall a very practical vehicle wrapped up in a visually appealing package... inside and out! Obviously I can't comment on reliability yet, but, another advantage of the base trim is that I believe I will be less likely to have problems that the upper trims may be having with their electronic dash (I've read a couple negative reviews about that). The lower trim has a lot of reused parts that have been on other GM models, including all the electronics, that have been out for quite awhile. Anyway, the couple short weeks that I've had it, I haven't experienced any problems. But, I do realize that I'm taking a bit of a chance on a 1st year model.

Trax 1RS has been a pleasant experience so far

I've had my Trax 1RS now for about 3 weeks and have just under 2k miles on the clock. I bought this as an extra car for my teenage drivers to use, as it was similar in price to some of the late model used cars we were looking at and had all the latest safety equipment and a fresh warranty. The sticker was right under $24k and I got mine for $20k (+tax & tags) after applying my GM points, educator discount, and the dealer discount. First of all, $20k is a tremendous value for what you get here. It's sharp looking in the RS trim, has heated seats and steering wheel, wireless Carplay (which none of our other cars have) and remote start, is roomy enough for 4 people and their gear, and is easy to drive with good access and visibility. Really has me re-thinking all future car purchases - you can get features and style for less than $40k. After 2k miles the only feature I really am missing is the push-button start (this has an old-school key) but that's one of the features of the next trim levels starting with the LT. The kids liked the looks of the RS over the LT, though, and we did not want the leatherette that is on the 2RS and Activ, plus we were trying to stick to the $20k price point. As far as performance and mileage, it's exactly as expected. My wife and I took two long test drives to make sure it would be enough to get out of it's own way but not too much for the kids to get in trouble. It definitely won't get you in trouble from the powertrain side. And while I think the mileage should be better from a 3 cyl, I was fully aware of the 28/32 rating and am getting right in that range. Around town for the first 800 miles of break-in we got an average of about 27 and then I took it on a 1200 mile trip from PA to FL and the average was right at 30, and that was doing 75-80 mph with some mountainous terrain at the beginning of the trip. And this should improve a bit with the warmer weather. Plus, no hip or back pain at the end of the drive - the seats are on the firm side, but perfectly comfortable (for me.) As far as reliability, all I can say is no issues so far. I saw other user's complaints about glitchy infotainment and intermittent windows but so far have not seen that. Mine was built in Nov 2023, though, so it should have all of the known software remedies already in place. There is always some risk of these issues on the first year of any redesigned car, so there is a bit of risk here. Time will tell if this ends up being a reliable car, but because of the value proposition we were willing to take the risk. If you are in the market for this class of vehicle on a budget I definitely recommend you take a look at the Trax. But take a nice long test drive on local and highway roads to make sure you are happy with the driving dynamics, performance, comfort, and features. It's amazing when I read some of these reviews that people don't seem to understand what they are buying. When I return to PA it gets turned over to the kids and I'll sell their old beater, but I really am enjoying my time with it! Update 9/21/24: Still a happy customer for the price paid. Now just under 9k miles on the clock (includes 2 round trips from PA to FL), average MPG right around 30, and trouble-free. The kids are very happy with it. Only complaint I had from the multiple long-drives are the very hard door rests - definitely a cheap improvement they could make. But the kids are younger and they don't care... Update 3/24/24: Kids do all local driving so only around 11k miles in total but seems to be holding up well. No problems to report. Will definitely look at getting another one when sharing a car is no longer practical.

Better than a Used Car and Same as my Buick

I owned a 2021 Buick Encore GX mid trim. When I saw this was sporty looking I became curious at what it had. To my surprise a loaded up 2RS bests most Encore gx Features and certainly is better than a Used car of any sort. I sat in a Trax LT and it amazed me. THE SEATS and space. It makes other brand models seem boring in comparison The detuned engine means great Torque and 19" wheels! The six speed transmission seems real without gear hunting.

Bought it, love it!

I had my heart set on a Jeep Renegade, but when I saw the Trax, it had the look I wanted, and I went for a test drive. I decided not to look at any reviews and went into it blind. For city driving, this hit all the requirements. It is certainly not the fastest to accelerate, but that is not always bad. I mean, I'm never going to race with this thing. It's also not the slowest in the acceleration department either. Going into the features, I purchased the RS2 trim. There's no moon roof, but that's ok. Apple Carplay was a must if there was no built-in navigation in the infotainment system, which there is not. The infotainment system isn't as fast as the Uconnect system on Stellantis cars. This is a little annoying, but once Apple Carplay is booted, you don't notice. Another annoying thing is that my phone doesn't always connect to the in-car wifi hotspot, and I need to connect manually. This can be a problem if you do not have unlimited data on your phone, which I do not, and have not downloaded your local maps and music to your phone. However, at an extra $29.99 a month for the wifi hotspot that only works in your car, I am considering upgrading my cell plan as I am not transporting children, and no one is using a laptop. This is my first car with OnStar, and I am unsure if I will keep it. If I do, I will keep the hotspot as it cuts the cost of the hotspot in half, which is worth it. I would then drop my AAA membership because I am not paying over $100 per year just for travel discounts I get with my job. My problems with the car are all first-world problems with features I have never had before. For the price, this car is an incredible value. Can you go off-road with it? No, but that is NOT what this car is designed for. This car is designed to be fun to drive on the road and to give you enough room to be a good road trip car. I love my new car so much, I find any excuse to drive it because it's fun to drive.
