Trax to the Graveyard

2015 Chevrolet Trax LT 4dr SUV (1.4L 4cyl Turbo 6A)

Traded for new Chevy Trax and encountered another GM disaster. Car repeately died on road, wouldn't start and had to be towed over 19 times. Never found solution. Never fixed. Poor service. A total nightmare. Finally after 5 months of pain and only 5600 miles, convinced GM to buy back the 2015 Chevy Trax under the Lemon Law. Good riddens GM. Done. Go Tesla!

Do your research!

I bought my 2015 Chevy trax in 2018 it was Beautiful and exactly what I wanted but I apparently didn’t dig deep enough into what kind of issues you could run into with this car. In the 4 years I’ve had this car I have had nothing but trouble with it. I bought it gently used from Volkswagen and right off the bat battery issues and turbo issues they fixed it and it ran great until the summer. Now I live in the desert where it can get up to 115 degrees and this car is not made for hot weather in my opinion! Every year since I’ve had this car it has broken down in the summer. I had to replace the entire turbo…. Again not cheap. The entire air conditioning unit going down. Battery issues I’ve replaced the battery twice in 4 years and I’ve never left the lights on or done anything to cause it to go bad that quickly. I’m constantly in the shop for valves and caps and etc. Probably every 6-8 months something goes wrong with this car. The voice control only works 25% of the time so it’s not very reliable or hands free if you have to get your phone out to make a phone call or something of the sorts. All in all this car sucks in the summer and has costly repairs. It’s great in the cold months and get good gas mileage but do your research before buying!!!

Ignition coil

Had acceleration issues and skip. The dash sensor display cited ABS and drive issues. Last I knew an engine skip is usually an ignition issue. Diagnostic did not reveal that but the coil and plugs were the issue. Apparently the programmer has no real time auto experience. Last of my GM/Chevy purchases. So much for the 100K spark plus nonsense. I am a former racer and car builder. Sort of have a touch of a background.

Fun to drive; $$$ to maintain…

This is such a fun car to drive around! The turbocharger makes it really zippy, the auto-start is an absolute must in cold winters, and the AWD handles great in the snow/ice. You can easily fit two car seats in the back, but the middle seat is pretty much unusable. Trunk space isn’t huge, but does its job for what I need it for. Interior is no frills, but pretty comfortable and all the plastic makes it easy to clean and very wipeable (i.e. kid friendly). Now the ugly part of the 2015 Trax… it is one of the most expensive cars I’ve ever had to maintain. The engine was not built to last and every single thing will be costly to replace. That great turbocharger system I mentioned? You’re looking at well over $4000+ to replace it/the attached hose system. Engine coils, brake system… I mean, I’ve owned this car for about 2 years and have put at least $7000 into the engine alone.

Don't buy a Trax

I purchased a 2015 Chevy Trax and have had problems with the brakes squeaking, grinding and being spongy since I got it. I have had it back to the dealership twice and they still have not corrected the problems. They sprayed a lubricant on them and told me to "see how they do now". Service department said they can't find anything wrong. I am very upset with the situation but no one seems to care. I have to take time off work to take the car in so I am losing time and money when I have to keep taking it back to the dealership. DO NOT BUY A CHEVY TRAX. FYI I purchased a 2006 Ford Escape and had it for 9 1/2 years and never had the brakes replaced. I had them checked every year and was told they were still fine.
